Horrible Humor
Tickle me until I'm frightened!
Some of the best scary stories use humor to draw the reader in and then lead them to a frightening place.
I'm blogging about that today on my Candy's Monsters blog.

It's Zombie Time!
I've tried, but I simply don't like zombies. They seem to be dragging their feet through books, movies and TV shows right now — across contemporary dystopian landscapes and out of the old zombie box.
But I still don't get the appeal.
The smell of rotting meat, the mindless following of an evil leader, the slow marching....
I just don't get it. I like macho werewolves and charming vampires.
What about you? Are you into zombies?

Villains & Monsters!
I went to see Alan Cumming in a one-man performance of Macbeth on Broadway last night.
WOW!
Yes, you read that correctly. One actor playing all the parts in the Scottish play — Duncan, Macduff, the witches, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth... It was an extraordinary feat of acting.
It's also the reason that I'm thinking about villains and monsters this week. I wrote my Candy's Monster blog post on the subject BEFORE the show, now I'm reconsidering everything I've ever thought about villainy.
Here's a taste of Alan Cumming as Lady Macbeth...

I've just posted two different endings to my serialized novella "Waltzing in the Snow" on my Candy's Monsters blog.
http://candysmonsters.com/2013/05/03/...
I hope readers will give me feedback on the two alternative final chapters and help me choose which one to use in the second/final draft of the this short novella.

Catch the Conscience of the King
Plays within plays, stories within stories, dreams within dreams....
I'm blogging about this wonderful device in fiction on my Candy's Monsters blog today:
http://candysmonsters.com/2013/04/23/...
The play is the thing to catch the conscience of the king!
Fellow writers — have you ever used this device in a story or novel? Readers — how do you feel about it?

Closer to the End of the Waltz!
I've just posted another installment of "Waltzing in the Snow" on my Candy's Monsters blog. This is chapter 15 of 17 so the end is near!
Chapter 15 reveals a lot — but it's not the end, yet.
I'm looking forward to posting the two versions of Chapter 17 and finding out which one resonates with the readers.

Foodie Nightmare...
Adventurous eater or not, a food nightmare cuts pretty close to the bone (pun intended) and can result in a cautious breakfast.
Check out my Candy's Monsters blog post, recalling a recent nightmare that killed my appetite.

Except from "Waltzing"
Excerpt from current installment of "Waltzing in the Snow"....
“Daniel, do you remember the Easter Weekend when we all went down to DC and stayed at my dad’s house?”
“Yes, of course. I thought one of your dad’s secret agents was going to take me out back and shoot me.”
“What?” Amanda almost dropped her phone.
