Publishing without spending anything Challenge!

I’ve got at least 6 books to revamp and republish, and unfortunately, it all adds up. It will cost me more than I can afford right now, so I took it to betas, and they just said it needs more details and world-building than anything. I’ve looked at covers, and they are just too costly for me at this time. So I thought to myself, 'Well, I have a Canva Pro subscription, so I can use that to make the book cover, mockup, book trailer, and any other graphics I need.' I also have Vellum already, so no need to hire a formatter when I can do it myself. I thought to myself, what if someone wants to publish broke/poor edition? Everything is way too expensive for me and when I did hire an editor people bitched about it not being edited the way they wanted. Several even didn’t like my editor for my Ghost Reaper series, so this time I am not hiring one. I’m not doing paid marketing either I’m doing all the free ways with social media. I get tired of those stupid book marketers bothering me about those book trailers hell, one even tried to take the last dollar I had. I even told one I didn’t have 30 just 18 in my account and the idiot tried to push me to hire him for it. The prices they charge for their bs book trailers and marketing services are terrible too. They think we are made of money, and we aren’t got a few trying to say they wanted to make a living off us, like buddy, you are in the wrong field. So as a challenge to myself the next 6 books will be me entirely. I have always wanted to learn how to create my own covers anyway, and the first book I’ll be focusing on is Raven’s Revenge! I’ll be redoing parts and even including cyber hackers too, with resources I created the book about romance scammers, and telling a story with vampires and witches as a twist. I’ll most likely record Youtube and Tiktok videos about the process too. I really want to put myself out there and take a shot to see what I can do myself. I’ll also post videos about the process too. This is going to be exciting and I hope you follow along with me! Until next time Jessica!

One of my favorite stews is now a Mother's Day tradition!

Mother’s Day is a bit hard for me since I lost my mom to cancer 5 years ago, and one of the biggest things I remember about her is her love of food. She used to make this all the time, and I loved it! It also lasts well in the freezer. She even has a binder full of recipes, and I do want to find it and make some for my YouTube channel. She was the cook in the family. She would have been happy to see the gadgets I got through the tiktok shop, too.
She loved the idea of me making cooking videos and even wanted to help me. She would grocery shop at Wegmans for hrs Saturday and cook everything on Sunday .We would get a smoothie for her and a Nitro cold brew with vanilla flavoring. I miss those days and wish I’d learn to cook with her more now that I have my own place I can learn. My mom was a foodie and she used to take me to Greek festivals and even took me to places to try new things. Food is comfort to me and that is why Brunswick stew is one of my favorite comfort foods. It is a childhood favorite!

Here is how she made it!

Moms Brunswick Stew recipe
5 pounds whole chickens
3 pounds Boston butt roast
45 ounces canned tomatoes
32 ounces frozen corn
32 ounces frozen lima beans
2 medium onions, chopped
32 ounces chicken broth
24 ounces ketchup
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon pepper
2 tablespoons hot sauce

Using hickory chips, smoke the chickens for 2 1/1 hours and the pork butt for 6 hours.

Remove the chicken skin and the meat from the bones. Chop the chicken meat and pork into bite sized pieces.

Mix everything else together in a Dutch oven and add both meats. Simmer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Per instructions can substitute 2 lbs smoked chicken meat and 2 1/2 lbs smoked pork instead of starting from scratch.

Boston butt is pork roast. The cans of tomatoes are diced (3 of the 14.5 to 15 ounce). Recipe called for butterbeans instead of limas but computer would not recognize it. Sometimes Cheryl would throw in a smoked turkey wing or liquid smoke if not smoking the meat from scratch.

Yields 28 cups?? Try cutting in half. That would take 1 lb smoked chicken meat, 1¾ lb smoked pork etc.

I love it and you should try it! It’s great for the fall and leftovers for days! It’s hearty and filling and I love it.

I took today off since I wanted me time and time to catch up on stuff so I’ll be writing more articles today I have Netflix and now I can do reviews on my fave shows and movies!

Life Updates, Author Q and A and the irritants with book marketing!

I recently got a copy of my book in my hands and did a video on it here!

I posted it to my X, Facebook page, personal, Bluesky, Threads and my discord and friends.

I got the best news ever Sunday I got accepted in the Tiktok Creator rewards program, which is exciting since it means I can get paid for videos over a minute long.

Exciting, not to mention my book is going to be narrated by my friend Malizma and I gave my AngelWitch series to beta readers too. Life has been stressful lately but recently one burden is lifted off. I got the Oblivion Remastered to stream, To Pixelia, and even Little Sim world. Trying to find a balance is tough though and there are times it is more difficult then others. Promoting my book has been a pain in the rear though since my posts for my novels are attracting book promoters and fake authors. I’m literally tired of these scammers at this point it makes it even harder to promote my books. And especially in the book groups you can tell they are fake book marketers by the stupid way they say stuff posts like these watch out for!

These stupid fucking book marketers make it hard for me to want to promote my books especially if once I share my dms are bombarded with idiots trying to sell me their bs services.

I have a new place where my books are for sale!

I went wide and it is a good thing I did since I can upload my ebooks and sell all over the place. I recently uploaded some of my titles to Itch.io since I heard it was a good place to sell books besides Amazon so we will see! I do want to write, game, stream and do Youtube full time!

I have been thinking about stuff alot lately. Life isn’t easy and I’m hoping it gets easier. My problem with Twitch, Youtube and writing is it all takes consistency and it builds over time.

I’ve got author and Streamer goals: Streamer goals: make it to 1k Twitch followers, Twitch partner and get a hype train. Author goals sell enough books to pay rent and bills with they are definitely dreams and I want to make it happen! I don’t want to keep being an office worker barely getting by living paycheck to paycheck. I want more of a life worth living! I even have a new narrator for Angeline’s Gift and next week I plan on doing a sale to see if I can get eyes on my work and attempt to make it work.

I set a goal on my Ko-fi since it includes rent, Wifi and electric yes I have a full time job but I do want to earn enough so that my job is just play money.

Scam Emails to Watch Out for and Some hilarious ones!

When I get bored I open up my spam email just to see the stupidity of some of the scam emails I get and some I’ve even copied just to make people aware of them since not a lot of people know they are scams at times like when I was job searching back before I got my current job I got a lot of those. Companies use legit ways like Webex and I think Teams can be one but I’ve ran into multiple ones where I tell them info only to realize it was another scam. They wanted to send me a check versus give me the equipment which is a red flag.

This is how it works:

They post a job on Linkedin, Indeed, Ziprecruiter or other legit ones. Then once you apply it seems quicker. Look up the company too they could be trying to use a real company and it be fake!

Take these for example:

Dear Prospective Employee,

We are pleased to inform you that after reviewing your resume, our recruitment team has shortlisted you for an interview for the Data Entry Operator I and Data Entry Operator II positions at Company. Your qualifications and experience impressed us, and we believe you can make a significant contribution to these roles. We are excited to move forward with your application.

I never fucking applied there dumbass and there is a Clerk but not that.

Job Details:

• Role: Data Entry Operator I & II

• Hourly Pay: $35 per hour Doubt it!

• Training Pay: $25 per hour during the one-week paid training program

Also they didn’t do it through the official company email but a gmail if it was legit it would use the company email not a fucking gmail. Some red flags are shit spelling, whatsapp use, too good to be true, asking for your banking info. Sending you a check for equipment. Also for these I never applied for them at all.

Those aren’t all either I’ve got some more wild emails too like this one:

So many red flags like never give people your personal info! Hell, I’ve even had idiots say they infected my PC with viruses or were tracking me. They said they were monitoring me and recording me doing personal stuff like a creep and threatening to send it to my friends and family if I don’t pay them money. Like these scammers are the worst honestly. They wouldn’t be able to do shit it is all bs!

I’ll still be doing content for my Medium, Substack and Wordpress for free. I just don’t think it is viable to spend all this money on editing and cover art and then publishing it on Amazon with very little in turn. Most people don’t understand the full costs that go into publishing like it takes money to publish a book. I’ll still be doing Youtube and Tiktok videos just focusing on reading and reviewing books, food, booze reviews and blogging about life and subjects I love. The scammers were also starting to take a toll it is pretty annoying dropping my link and then getting hounded for it. No I don’t need your help marketing my book, no I don’t need a book trailer, and one couldn’t understand I can make it myself on Canva for free. Having them get on me about marketing, lack of book reviews and making fun of my lack of sales is draining. They talk to authors pretty rudely then expect us to be nice like no get fucked. I am going to be making it fun and blogging about life and my thoughts and re-reading books I enjoy. I am just drained honestly I also work a full time job and it is making me tired as of late. And it seems like life is getting more expensive and I’m not making enough to cover everything. I want to build a reader base and a community on Twitch too. I want to film more Youtube videos and Tiktoks and have fun reviewing books, food videos and booze. One cool recipe I want to try is Snoop Dogs ramen take chicken ramen, beef jerky, american cheese and crushed doritoes it does sound good. There will be more content I’m just paywalling new stuff and doing exclusive stuff to make writing worth while!
