The Weekend Cometh

We’re dog-sitting this weekend.

I realize that’s not earth-shattering news. It does make our daily lives a bit different, though. It’s been a few years since our last dog died. We didn’t want any pets for a while, to give us a chance to replace the carpet and live with a fur-free house for a while. We miss our funny companions, but the freedom’s been nice.

I admit I like the walks. We have a dog door to our backyard, and our dogs always used it. This made it easy to skip walks, although we stil...

First Super Weeds, Now Super Insects — Thanks to Monsanto | NationofChange

I know that when I post things like this, the only people who read it are those who already understand the problem.

So I’m asking those of you whodon’tsee anything wrong with eating regular, processed food to please read the article. You’re the ones who need to know about it.

First Super Weeds, Now Super Insects — Thanks to Monsanto | NationofChange.

What I learned at Bay Con

Create a style sheet for each book (thanks Marty Halpern. This will make my life easier.)

Todd McCaffrey is a hoot. He loves to talk. After meeting him, I can relax, knowing the Pern series is in good hands.

Sandy Saidak has published her first novel, Daughter of the Goddess Lands.

Brandon Sanderson is kind, polite, and also loves to talk. Having never read the Wheel of Time books, I wasn’t concerned about their current incarnation, but I suspect they are also in good hands.

The Kollin brothers,D...

A Bay Con Report – Just Checkin’ In

It doesn’t happen often a con, but we have a substantial break in our schedule. Dinner has happened, although I’m still holding out for dessert. Room service, anyone?

We’ve had some good times at this con. The panels have been great. The moderators have all been organized, with good intros and good questions. I’ve attended several writing-related panels, but also a couple of more general topics, like fairy tales or “other” religions in alternate history. That last one was a little disappointin...

It’s Convention Time

BayCon starts tomorrow and I’m all a-shiver with excitement. I’ve been looking over the schedule and already see several panels I want to go to. This is the only convention we attend, so it’s a real treat to give in to total SF&F geekery.

This year, I have nothing to submit to any of the writing panels. I’m not bothered by that. My year has consisted of self-publishing a book, and finishing up others that I want to publish. I didn’t start anything new, but I still have three novels that are un...

Reading-for-Pleasure. Say what?

Even though in Real Life, I am writing (well, revising/editing – because I finishedit!) a book, I still read other books. Constantly. I always have one or two books going. This a slow process, because most of my reading time occurs in the fifteen minutes between climbing into bed and falling asleep.

I’m sure you know what I mean.

My current book is Mr. Norrell and Jonathan Strange by Susanna Clarke. I’m enjoying it immensely, and you can tell by my use of the word, immensely, that what I read s...

Bridgebuilder #AmWriting Report

I found the words I was looking for:

THE END!

Time for champagne.

The #AmWriting Report

This week has been one of intense writing on my part. I have missed my (self)-imposed deadline, so I have applied myself to the keyboard. Bridgebuilders has grown by 6,000 words. More, if you count the words I deleted. Occasionally, it became clear that a particular scene was trending off in a direction I didn’t want to go. Snip, snip. I’ve been brutal because I don’t have time to be gentle.

My objective now is a simple race for the finish line. Every scene is geared to get me to The End. The...
