Teasing the Readers: Time Travel Journals Bridgebuilders

(Otherwise known as the post with all the exclamation marks. I’ll admit there are too many.)

Every once in a while I remind you that Bridgebuilders is coming out soon, either by telling what stage it’s in, or by simple promotion. I just counted the weeks left until the big day:

Five.

Yep,five weeks, and a few days. I guess I can get officially excited now.

In the full spirit of getting-the-word-out, I’m going to post some teasers for you. The first chapter of Bridgebuilder has been up on this webs...

A Cooking Post: A Treat from the CSA

This sad-looking pile of beans harbors a surprise in taste. The joke is on me, because for over fifty years, I hated these things.

The pile turns into this:

Yep. Those are black-eyed peas.

We did not have them often when I was a kid, but Mom was from the south. Which meant that New Year’s Day required black-eyed peas. For good luck the rest of the year.

Getting Ready to Publish

Between vacations, childbirth classes, exercise, and gardens, I also have to prepare Bridgebuilders for publishing.Publishing a book is far more complicated that just uploading a file somewhere. Other Writers: Interview with Author Joan Szechtman

Every once in a while, you meet someone who thinks just like you. Joan Szechtman is that person for me. Both of us found out about an historical figure who died too young, and set out to write a book to give him a second chance. We both chose time travel as a way of rescuing our heroes, me by sending people back in time, Joan by bringing her protagonist forward to our time.

As you know, I was drawn to Thomas Andrews, builder of the Titanic. Joan’s hero is Richard III, King of England from 1483...

Fall Off Your Broom: Week 1

I have to give this week’s progress report with a caveat. Just not the way you’re thinking.

When I started this, I’d just returned from vacation where I gained three pounds. My usual pattern is that once I get home and get back to my normal eating and exercise, those pounds go away in just a few days.

So the fact that I can report I lost 4 pounds this week, does not mean very much.

Except that those extra pounds are gone. That’s good.

One of my goals was to start using smaller plates for my meals...

Sandra Fluke’s information about the pill and ovarian cysts is wrong and why it matters « Dr. Jen Gunter

Also in the “Oh by the way” department: Insurance companies should cover birth control because it can help women not get pregnant. Sure, it has other very important uses, and it should be covered for those as well. But lets not lose sight of the main point.

Sandra Fluke’s information about the pill and ovarian cysts is wrong and why it matters « Dr. Jen Gunter.
