Defying Disabilities: 6 steps to traveling solo
Vitalise is a non-profit organization that helps people

Our guest writer is Josh of Vitalise, a charity devoted to helping people with disabilities to travel. They help with respite centers around the UK and by providing support and advice to those goin...

My campsite in the Hardwood Hills section of Bon Echo Provincial Park.
I hit the road for one of three reasons:
to travel
to tour
to go on holiday.
The first is what I usually do – taking the time to savor a destination in a variety of ways. Touring is more about seeing the highlights – checking the “must-sees” off a list. And finally, going on holiday is about relaxing.
Like me, I’m sure Solo Traveler readers do all three at some point in time. No one is better than another. It’s important to unde...

Udaipur: the Venice of India in Photos
View of Udaipur and Lake Pichola from the gondola known as the Udaipur Ropeway.
Monday I showed you Lhasa, a place that didn’t match my expectations in a negative way.
This time, I give you Udaipur, a place that didn’t match my expectations in a most positive way.
When I think of my trip to India last year, I think first about Udaipur.
Yes, I saw the Taj Mahal. And yes, I went to an ashram in Rishikesh. I went to an Indian wedding and visited many fascinating small towns but nothing matches Udaip...

Lhasa, Tibet: see for yourself.
High-end shops where Tibetans neither work nor shop.
My spring tour of China included going to Lhasa.
Though fascinated by Tibet, I wasn’t sure I wanted to go given the political situation. Tibet has been ruled by the Chinese for over fifty years.
Fifty years. It doesn’t look like the Chinese will be relinquishing Tibet to Tibetans any time soon. Yet still, Tibetan exiles continue to agitate to have their homeland for their own nation. I have sympathy for their cause so I had to think carefully...
