Love Me
The light of the moon shined brightly through a window.
“It’s okay now sweetie, we’ll never be apart again.” Skill kept her hand steady as she pulled the needle through her lover’s lips.
Chained down, fear pumped through his veins. Pain flooded his senses.
“You will love me forever.” Her laughter filled the empty warehouse.

The Heart In The Chest
Blood slicked fingers slid the heart in to the silver casket. She paused, waiting for the magic to begin. Slowly, the organ began to pulse again. The steady drum that she had listened to beat below her lover’s breast.
She smiled and closed the little silver chest.
Now his heart would always beat for her.

Love Potion
The young witch sat at a cafeteria table, perplexed, as kids ran screaming. It was a simple love potion. Three bats eyes, dash of nightshade, ground wolfsbane. It should’ve worked.
“Wait! Wolfsbane!?”
Nearby, a hirsute boy stood over a dead classmate, her beating heart in his hand.
“Dammit, Kevin!”
He grinned wolfishly, shrugged. “My bad.”
Michael Coady.

Love is . . . a nightmare
Clock strikes one, down tears come.
She’s home alone. He’s out having fun.
Quarter passed four, a creak at the door.
She’s waited all night to pick a fight,
over vows he refuses to keep.
Flash in the dark, a shot to the heart;
finally they’ll both get some sleep.

Love is a Finely Crafted Killing Machine
My twist is perfect, my swing – precise. Sparks splash off the concrete are but a prelude to the demon’s demise. Oni arcs through the air with a quiet swoosh. The demon lays lifeless below me. I kiss Oni gently, wipe the blood clean and sheath her. My lover, my everything, has won this night.

The Deception
They made love beneath a jeweled night sky. She burned with desire. He smelled of things forbidden.
“I love you,” she whispered.
“It’s your nature to love,” he replied. “As it’s mine to deceive.”
Lucifer rolled the Seraphim over and tore out her wings. She screamed in agony.
He stood, grinning. “Now. Where were we?”

Trick or Treat
“Mom’s love is unconditional,” I say to Timmy, who trembles against my back in the tiny closet.
“This is a horrible trick!” he cries.
“She should’ve given us treats then, huh Timmy?” I slip the black cat’s severed head into a plastic sack, freeze when I hear her car. “You said yourself, mom loves surprises.”
Emma Alder.

Keeping the Vows
“You didn’t really believe in that ‘til death do us part mumbo-jumbo, did you?” he said. “Now let me sleep.”
While he snored, she closed the windows. She turned on the gas.
Back in bed, she kissed her sleeping husband.
“I believe not even death can separate us.” she whispered. “Sleep well.”

Forever
“My love.” Tom gently stroked my hair, bringing tears to my eyes.
“Please let me go,” I begged.
Tom shook his head. “You’re where you need to be. With me.”
The knife shook in his hand.
I tried to free myself from the ropes, but couldn’t.
“Now we’ll be together forever.”
The knife came down.

Livestock Lives
Pete had raised Bessie from a calf. Her brown eyes sparkled at his visits. One day a dull stare greeted Pete, a bloodless gash opened Bessie’s flank. She bit him with flat teeth. It hurt but didn’t break skin. He didn’t have the heart to shoot her, just locked the zombie cow in the barn.
