“Greed” & “Dare Not Touch” #haiku #poems

Haiku for RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Challenge—a fun activity and contest that is open for everyone to participate, and helps keep our creative writer’s brain active! This week’s words: Beautiful & Curse.

“Greed”

Beautiful ruby
Beware what greed manifests
The jewel’s curse spreads.

~

“Dare Not Touch”

The waves were a curse,
She watched their beauty sadly
As her life flame swayed.
Water cannot touch
Her fairy heart made of flames,
Though she longs for it.
Longing for its cool
Relief from the b...

The Prayer And The Egg

Since Easter is tomorrow, I thought it’d be fun to share this true story, which happens to involve a chicken and eggs!

My dad’s family knew this man named Mr. Brownhall, who had spent time at their church and spoke there several times. He was British and had one of those fun British accents, even though he’d been living in America most of his life. Brownhall had lived through one of the most difficult times America has ever faced; and like many at that time, he was poorer than dirt and just s...

The Blue Sky Tag

Both Lauren Gunter, and Rachael Ritchey tagged me for these fun questions, (thank you!) so let’s get started! Rachael’s Questions:

1. If you lived in a house made of jello, what flavor would it be? Any particular reason?

My brain is automatically thinking orange. They taste best during the winter, and even though it’s technically “spring” there’s still snow on the ground outside my window, which means winter and oranges are on the mind.

Lost In The Mountain Forest

You wander away from the old inn up in the mountains

A chance to explore this unknown part of the landscape as the sun rises,

Wandering into the forest that rolls and caresses the land’s verdant green sides.

As dawn breaks, a misty damp lingers in the air

Condensing sparkling dew drops on every leafy surface;

Sun rays pierce through the canopy so bright

You can smell its sweetness as it mingles with the wet earth;

Lichen is a soft sponge beneath your feet

And moss adorns the towering trees li...

How To Create A Villain

My guest post today over at Indie e-Con: “How To Create A Villain”

Every good story needs a villain, or some antagonistic force. They are the ones who make the protagonist’s character grow until they become the hero their story needs, the hero that readers can admire. The villain makes the hero shine; the darkness makes the light shine bright. A story about good people with nothing happening doesn’t show us or teach us anything, but a story about good people fighting against evil—now that is...
