#poem Autumn’s Wonder
“Autumn’s Wonder”
The maple tree changes
Into a bouquet of gold and orange
Like a sunburst sunset
Capturing my heart and my sense of wonder.
What tells the tree to change its leaves?
What warning has it been given that winter will soon draw near?
That soon will come the time for slumber and wait for spring?
I study each leaf, the ridges, the pattern,
How the green color has vanished like a chameleon
Replaced by mottled spots and gradient colors.
God’s craftsmanship amazes me like nothing huma...

The Story of Stingy Jack O’Lantern, & The Origin of Trick-Or-Treat!
As Halloween draws near, I feel it’d be fun to have a look at the traditions that surround this holiday, and discover how those traditions first began long ago. Haven’t you wondered why we carve pumpkins, and why children (and adults

Mystery Of The Gargoyle
Welcome to the first #MondayTopic post! Because it’s the season of October and all things spooky, we’re starting off with the mysterious gargoyles.
What are these strange creations carved out of stone? During my time living in Italy, I often came across them in the old part of town we lived nearby, and during holiday trips across Europe. I found them fascinating and creepy, as they peered down from their high perches at the pedestrians milling below. And during rain storms, they made a non-st...

September Into October #MonthlyUpdate
Changes are ahead! But more on that later. I’ve got some great recipes to share with you in this post, along with some of the books and TV series I’ve been going through! September for the most part was good and productive. I wrote more and read more than usual, as I could feel the fall season coming on. There’s something about the changing leaves, and the animals dashing about storing up food, that inspires me to write. Spring is like that, too. The transitional seasons feel more alive, I su...
September Into October #monthlyupdate
Changes are ahead! But more on that later in this post. September for the most part was good and productive. I wrote more and read more than usual, maybe because I could feel the fall season coming on. There’s something about the changing leaves, and the animals dashing about storing up food, that I find inspiring. Spring is like that, too. The transitional seasons feel more alive, I suppose.
That said, however, this past week has been one of tragedy and sorrow for America. I am still in shoc...

Anatomy Of Writing #guestpost #giveaway
Today I’m hosting a guest post as part of the book tour for the relaunch of The Rise of Aredor series. The author is here to share with us how she manages being a writer while also studying for a degree in Physical Therapy, two very different passions. There is also a giveaway and book sale at the end of this post, and in the comments section you can ask her any medical questions you may have! (like what would a broken rib really do to your character?)

Ireland Mythology, Guest Post & Book Tour
This week I’m participating in the book tour for Hazel West’s new release: Scars of War, book #3 of the Modern Tales of the Na Fianna series. Which is an Urban Fantasy YA full with mythology and folklore. I’ve been reading the first book in the series and enjoying it so far! Hazel is here today to tell us a little about Ireland Mythology and how it plays a role in the Na Fianna series…

Techniques For Improving Dialogue #writers
Dialogue is one of the most important parts of a story, and yet is easily overlooked. Before I began taking writing seriously years back, I used to assume writing dialogue was easy. I mean, how hard could it be? We use dialogue every day as we communicate with other people. I should instantly have a knack for it, right?
Wrong. Oh so wrong, Rawls. It might be easy to whip up things for characters to say, but to whip up dialogue that adds meaning to the story and moves the plot forward, as well...

Bleeding Heart is now available on Kindle! #poems #shortstories #book
This week I’ve spent revising and formatting Bleeding Heart, and now for the first time it’s on Kindle! *wipe’s brow from all the work* It’s been available at other book retailers for several years now, but I just never got around to formatting it for Kindle, what with all my other writing projects snatching my time.
It’s a collection of poems and short stories by me and my mother about biblical faith, life and loss and perseverance. Several of the poems I’ve posted here on the blog:

Journey Into Flume Gorge
My family went to Flume Gorge, up in the Franconia Notch State Park of New Hampshire. It’s one of the coolest gorges, with walls 70-90 feet high in places, and a nature trail that continues through the mountain forest, past a waterfall and across a covered bridge. There’s something magical about the place, when you’re standing there on the boardwalk with a steep stream running past you and walls of ancient rock rising up on either side of you. It’s like stepping into another world for a mome...
