Wrapping up Authors After Dark 2012

I'm on the road again today, heading back to Bama after my six days in NOLA, and boy am I tired! I'd brought so much stuff with me to give away, I didn't expect to have so much going back but here's just a partial haul (both of those bags are full of swaggy stuff that I'll be sharing with you guys over the coming week, so stay tuned).

This was my first big signing, so it was fun watching things get set up.

And getting my one little book ready to sign (and my PJ's iced coffee addiction--it's a l...

Report from Authors After Dark--Friday (& W*n a Cool NOLA Paperweight)

Another rainy day in New Orleans, but it's a kind of wind-down day for me. We have a luncheon and then a book signing this afternoon, and I'm going out with local friends tonight instead of doing the AAD reception. Sadly, that means I'll miss out on free books (which I really, really hate to do), but since tomorrow's the drive home, it'll be my last chance to visit with folks.

So, Friday was another busy day for us. I started off at 9 a.m. taking another group on the Katrina site tour and we m...

And the Heavens Open...(& W*n Some AAD Books)

Another day's winding down at Authors After Dark, at least for this chicken, who's too tired to go to the male strip club (behave yourselves, CJ and Boone!) after a crazy day.

It got off to an interesting ("interesting" is one of those dangerous words, you know) start at 10 a.m., when I was scheduled to do a "Supernatural New Orleans"-themed reading with four other authors. One had a conflicting event and dropped out which left three other authors...who never showed up.

So it's me and about 40...

#AADNOLA: Gator Burgers, Field Trips (& W*n a Field Trip Bag)

Checking in from Authors After Dark again. Wednesday, things were just getting started, with lots of people still arriving. But I have a lovely room, with a balcony overlooking this beautiful courtyard.

After registering and handing off my welcome bag stuff, I spent a lot of the middle of the day assembling more goodies--this time for the folks going on my field trips to Katrina sites and for bloggers. Here was the assembly line in progress.

So this is what I'm giving away today--one of the big...

#AADNOLA: Spears and Rubber Chickens...And W*n a Welcome Bag Goody

Just registered for Authors After Dark, and have my nifty name tag!

I'm shy, reserved, and all that jazz so it'll be a challenge for me to interact. But I promise not to hide in my room all week.

First thing I saw when I got off the elevator after checking in late yesterday? Ha! Bonjour, mon pirate.

Last night, I met a couple of my besties for dinner at Charlie's Steak House on Dryades Street in uptown NOLA. First, I stopped by Lora's condo and got reacquainted with Huckie, who is the inspiratio...

Meet #PNR Author Lexi George (& W*n DEMON HUNTING IN THE DEEP SOUTH)

In the interest of fairness here, I have the great pleasure of being in a chapter of Romance Writers of America with Lexi George. She lives about an hour from me, and we met at the Southern Magic reader's luncheon last November in Birmingham and spent quite a bit of time moaning about how hard love scenes are to write. She's a fab-u-lous person, but I was already a fan of her first book, Demon Hunting in Dixie, long before I knew she lived around the corner, figuratively speaking.

Lexi is an a...

New Releases August 4-10 and Reader's Choice C*ntest

It's that time again...new releases in speculative fiction, and a Reader's Choice giveaway. What else could you want on a Monday morning? It's a pretty big list again this week, too!

A quick housekeeping note. I'll be posting a Q&A with author Heather Anastasiu tomorrow with a giveaway of her new YA novel, Glitch. And then the rest of the week, my plan is to post several times a day with a photo or some nonsense from Authors After Dark. I'll be driving to New Orleans on Tuesday! I'll be do...

Scene-Snippet Sunday (and Did You W*n a Book This Week?)

Yep, it's Scene-Snippet Sunday again. I've been pulling snippets from book three, Elysian Fields, but this book is so tightly woven around early events I'm finding it hard to find non-spoiler scenes. (And I should note here that we're beginning revisions on Elysian Fields next week, so it could all be tossed out the window...one never knows.)

In this scene, DJ is in a hotel room in New Iberia, La., after going on a quick out-of-town job. Something really, really bad has happened but she isn't...

AADNOLA: The Preternatura Preview

So...I'll be heading out at the crack of dawn on Tuesday morning, driving to New Orleans for Authors After Dark. I'm both petrified and excited. It's my first convention (excited), I'm there with a bunch of amazing authors, pretending to be one of them (petrified), it's in my beloved New Orleans (excited) in August (petrified--if you've lived through an August in New Orleans, you'll understand this). I have a bazillion-and-one things to do before I leave--stuffing gift bags, making swaggy stu...
