Blowin' in the Wins

The shameless little plug for what's coming on Preternatura next week:

Let's see...we have some steamy paranormal romance coming up on Sunday...and Tuesday. Some dystopian dysfunction on Friday. And Monday, everybody's favorite: Reader's Choice!
Anything else? Oh....Oh yeah. Contest winners!
First, I'd like to give a shout-out to reader and fellow blogger Merlino Atanacio (aka Jayjay), who has developed a terrific little freeware random name generator to more easily choose winners for blog...

UF Review & Contest: FEAST by Merrie Destefano

Merrie Destefano's Afterlife was a rough-and-tumble sci-fi noirish mystery, but put that out of your head, because Feast is not a sequel. It's a lyrical rural fantasy with an almost fairy tale quality to it. Let's take a look!

THE OFFICIAL BLURB: Halloween is a bad time to return to the woods... Madeline MacFaddin ("Mad Mac" to fans of her bestselling magical stories) spent blissful childhood summers in Ticonderoga Falls. And this is where she wants to be now that her adult life is fallin...

Preternatura Book Club: DEAD WITCH WALKING, Chapters 21-22

Welcome to this week's"meeting" of the Preternatura Book Club! A few weeks ago, commenters voted on which novel they'd like to tackle first, and the winner by a landslide was Kim Harrison's Dead Witch Walking, the first in her Hollows series featuring witch Rachel Morgan.

Here's how it works. Each week, I'll post a summary (spoiler alert!) on two chapters, and we'll chat about them. Try to minimize spoilers beyond what's happened in the book we've read so far. You can read along, read...

New Releases July 9-16 & Reader's Choice Contest

We have a moderate-sized list of new releases in a variety of genres this week. Of course, if you're a fan of epic fantasy, you've probably already lined up (metaphorically speaking) for the long-awaited new Song of Ice and Fire installment from George R.R. Martin, which I'm sorry to say I haven't read *ducks from readers throwing sharp objects*. Lots of good YA if you're not an epic fantasy reader too, though, including the conclusion of Maggie Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy Falls series...

Steampunk Review & Contest:: CABINET OF CURIOSITIES anthology

Today, we're looking at an unusual anthology built around an unusual theme. The full title, The Thackery T. Lambshead Cabinet of Curiosities: Exhibits, Oddities, Images and Stories from Top Authors and Artists, should tell you...you're in for a wild ride with this one!
The book, edited by steampunk experts Ann and Jeff Vandermeer, is an illustrated anthology that takes the imaginary contents of a cabinet owned by the late Thackery T. Lambshead (think: mad scientist and collector of...

Throw Win the Towel

Yeah, yeah. It's a bad pun. You try coming up with "win" puns every week! Sheesh.

It was a short week, thanks to my deadline and a holiday, but we still have a few winners this week. BUT, come back starting tomorrow for some great giveaways. Our Reader's Choice on Monday, as always. Plus reviews and giveaways from Jenna Black, Gillian Summers, Merrie DeStefano, and the craziest, funkiest steampunk anthology you've ever seen. Ever. Really.

In the meantime, congratulations to:
* MARIE-CLAUDE, for ...
