Your Favorite Author Swag is...
Inquiring minds want to know? And who better to tell me than my blog buddies?
As I lurch slowly toward Royal Street's pub date of April 10 and my cover's ALMOST READY to debut (really and truly), I'm looking at all the stuff my fellow authors hand out to readers. Signed bookmarks and bookplates, signed cover flats, notebooks, trading cards, postcards, pens, cups. ...
Good grief, you name it, some author's put his/her name and book cover on it and handed it out. Since I'm obviously tied to New O...

Did You Win a Book This Week?
Sorry, not feeling very punny today as I head out to stand in 100+ heat for hours, handing out bottles of water to college students. The joys of a day jobbe that just gives and gives.
And, with no further fanfare, winners, picked this week through our friends at random.org!
And here we go...
* Congratulations to SPAZinOL for winning this week's Reader's Choice—she picked Lev Grossman's The Magician.* Congrats to BARB P and TETEWA for both winning a copy of Ashlyn Chase's The Vampire Next...

Review & Contest: KITTY'S GREATEST HITS by Carrie Vaughn
Take a werewolf named Kitty, make her a late-night radio talk-show host doling out advice for downtrodden and troubled preternaturals, and you have a seriously good urban fantasy series. Of course, I'm talking about Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville series—and for fans of the books, and for those who've never read them, there's a new treat coming out next week from Tor Books: Kitty's Greatest Hits. Want to win a copy? Read on!
THE OFFICIAL BLURB:
Kitty Norville, star of a New York Times...

Review & Contest: THE PARADISE PROPHECY by Robert Browne
I'm stepping a little out of genre today..but only a little in that The Paradise Prophecy is being marketed as mainstream thriller fiction. Really, though, it's as supernatural as they come, with rampaging fallen angels getting ready for the Last Big Apocalypse—and the humans who uncover the truth and track down clues to find how to stave them off. Awesome read. Want to win a copy? Read on.
THE OFFICIAL BLURB:
A spectacular thriller inspired by John Milton's Paradise Lost in which the final...

Preternatura Book Club: DEAD WITCH WALKING, Chapters 29-30
Welcome to this week's "meeting" of the Preternatura Book Club! We're reading Kim Harrison's Dead Witch Walking, the first in her Hollows series featuring witch Rachel Morgan. Here's how it works. Each week, I'll post a summary (spoiler alert!) on two chapters, and we'll chat about them. Try to minimize spoilers beyond what's happened in the book we've read so far. You can read along, read ahead, or just stop by and read the summaries. After the Book Club has been up a few days, I'll m...

New Releases Aug. 6-13 and Reader's Choice Contest
Remember that insane list of new releases last week? Well, relax. This week is positively paltry in comparison. Note to publishers: spread out the love already, guys!
Still, see what's here that you might find interesting. There are a few intriguing YAs (check out Timothy Carter's The Cupid War) and the big release of the week, Lev Grossman's The Magician King. As always, a Reader's Choice giveaway, and it's international. What do YOU want to read?

Book Club Time Again: What Do YOU Want to Read?
We're about 80 percent of the way through the first Preternatura Book Club read, Kim Harrison's Dead Witch Walking. I hope some of you have been following along with Rachel, Ivy, Jenks and the gang. I figure about early September we'll be ready for a new read. So it's time to vote!
First, for those of you reading along, does the slow-read format of two chapters a week work for you? Should we go faster? Slower? Are there other things that would make it more interesting?
Second, for our next read...

Winner Takes All
Well, okay, winner takes whatever winner won. Say that five times, really fast :-)
It's Saturday, so that means it's time to give away some books! If you see your name here, please go ahead and contact me HERE with your shipping info, which will save me having to hunt you down like a wild boar. Or something like that. Also, please let me know if you'd be willing to accept an ebook instead of a print book, this week only, since the print books this week are kinda pricey. If so, it's appreciated...
