YA Review & Contest: THE MARKED SON by Shea Berkley

After you read today's review and enter the contest, I invite you to head over to my critique partner Susan's blog, Wastepaper Prose , where I'm visiting today and blogging about one of my favorite preternatural species: ELVES! Stop by and read why I love 'em. But first, read on to win a copy of...

Another book in the new "Upper YA" genre. I love this genre! You can read why in a review of an upper YA a few days ago here (and still time to enter that contest too). Today, I'm looking at The...

Review & Contest: NIGHT WALKER by Lisa Kessler

Before I move on to today's vampalicious book review, just a quick "yahoo!" Tor Books has bought the third in my upcoming urban fantasy series that kicks off April 10, 2012, with Royal Street. Number two is River Road, which will come out in fall 2012. The new one, which exists only in the twinkle of an eye and a few rough notes, will be Elysian Fields. AND, in honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day, I hope to have a new free read up around Sept. 19. Stay tuned!

Now, on to more immediate...

Preternatura Book Club: DEAD WITCH WALKING, Chapters 27-28

When we last saw Rach, she wasn't in very good shape after the demon attack. She's sacked out on the sofa, bleeding, and Mataline (Mrs. Jenks) has gone to fetch the old man who lives across the street, Keasley. He's convinced Ivy had something to do with Rachel's attack since she's obviously been bitten by a vampire, so he's antagonistic toward her. Ivy keeps her temper in check for the most part, and spends a lot of time banging around the kitchen doing busywork for Keasley. Nick's i...

Review & Contest: BLOOD OF THE DEMON by Rosalie Lario

If you're a fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood (true?), you'll want to check out this first about a quartet of half-demon brothers trying to protect the human realm from their own kind. It's got a softer tone than the BDB, the brothers not quite as edgy and out there, but it's still a hot paranormal romance for a hot summer month.

THE OFFICIAL BLURB: Keegan lives to exact revenge on the evil demon who sired and abused him. When his father devises a plan to bring on the apocalypse, he and hi...

New Releases Aug. 1-5 & Reader's Choice Contest

Holy sagging bookshelves, Batman! I thought the publishing industry was in crisis. I thought no print books were being released anymore. I thought summer was a down time in publishing. Ha! Strap on your steel-toed boots and get ready to crash through a huge, honkin' pile of new releases this week. Forty-six, because I counted them. As always, a Reader's Choice giveaway. What do YOU want to read?

YA Review & Contest: WARD AGAINST DEATH by Melanie Card

How about some "Upper YA"? It's a subgenre that's long overdue, IMHO. Until recently, there's been a generation gap between Young Adult paranormal books, which feature protagonists under 18, and Adult paranormals, which usually feature characters 25 and older. So, what, people just disappear for seven years in between? No one wants to write about characters going through what is arguably one of the most formative periods of their lives? You know—when they really meet "the one," decide what...

I Give Up, You win!

Is it already Saturday? That means it's contest winner time!

First, a quick preview of Preternatura next week. It's going to be fun. A new publisher, Entangled, is launching its first titles this week and I'll be reviewing and giving away copies of some of their August titles on Sunday,  Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Some are steamy paranormal romance, some are urban fantasy, some are seat-of-your-pants Young Adult.

In the interest of transparency, I will tell you I had the pleasure of copyedit...

Review & Giveaway: THE DEVIL'S DIADEM by Sara Douglass

If you read this blog often, you know I'm not a huge reader of traditional fantasy. Not because I don't like it (although more than one name with odd apostrophes, like Lord Ar'guth'nirz, do make me break out in hives), but because I usually miss the first or third or tenth in the series and don't have time to play catch-up. (Although I swear I will read the George RR Martin Ice and Fire series one day. Seriously.)

So I was excited to get The Devil's Diadem by Sara Douglass. First, it's a stand...

It's time for some hot, tortured alpha shapeshifter action today with Juliana Stone's His Darkest Salvation. This was a don't-want-to-put-down read...so read on.
