New Releases May 11—May 17 and Readers Choice C*ntest
This week we get a bit of a break in the number of new releases. My TBR pile and my book budget both need that! However, there are still some very interesting books coming out this week including those by some industry heavy-hitters like Neil Gaiman, John Scalzi, Daniel Abraham. For me, though, I'm going to be pimping up Alex Bledsoe's "Shall We Gather." It's a digital short set in the world of the Tufa, in which last year's The Hum and the Shiver took place. That was...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

Behind the Scenes with Elysian Fields (& Lots of W*nners)
After a couple of weeks off, I'm slowly getting back on schedule. I'm also beginning the process of migrating Preternatura to my official website but it might take a while. Hopefully, it will be seamless to the blog followers. If you subscribe to both this blog and my website updates you might get two email notifications for a while, and my apologies for that.
Today, I'm continuing my trip through the Style Sheet for Elysian Fields, book three of the Sentinels of New Orleans series. And r...

A Tip of the Sword to the Big, Foul-Mouthed Scotsman
Some fab recognition has been given to our own Mirren Kincaid, aka the Slayer, aka the big bad teddy bear of Penton, and his mate Glory Cummings. Mirren and Glory's story is told in Absolution, written by me, er, that Susannah Sandlin woman.I'm excited to announce that ABSOLUTION , the second book in my Penton "paranormal romantic thriller" series, is one of three "Dark Paranormal" finalists in the annual Prism Contest, hosted by the Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal Special Interest cha...

Shop-Talk: PC in Fiction--When is a Joke Not a Joke?
Yeah, yeah, I know. Shop Talk is usually on Wednesday but I'm still off-kilter from the travel, plus we had a special guest yesterday :-). As always with Shop Talk, joining the discussion gets you in the running for a $10 gift card to the online book-tailer of your choice (international comments welcome, as always). I'm a couple of weeks behind on contest winner announcements so stay tuned for LOTS of winners on Sunday.
Now, let's talk political correctness in our fiction. How much is too much...

Exclusive Excerpt & C*ntest--Jill Archer's Fiery Edge of Steel
I'm excited today to be participating in a special six-day event to celebrate the upcoming release of Jill Archer's second book in her Noon Onyx urban fantasy series. Fiery Edge of Steel will be released on May 28 by Ace, and Jill is doing a six-stop linked excerpt from the book's first chapter. See below for the links and read the excerpts in order. This is a very cool series, and Jill's also giving away some cool prizes (can you say signed ARCs, anyone?).
Here are the tour/excerpt stops:

Odds and Ends--and Goodies from RT
She's back!
Five or six states (I lost count) later, weather that ranged from 80s to teens, snow, rain, hotel bellmen that broke luggage and lost posters (hey, if anyone finds the cool Elysian Fields poster that blew down the street in Kansas City, keep it), really nice and cool authors, really obnoxious and arrogant authors, and everything in between...RT 2013 is a wrap.
Overall, the positives outweighed the negatives, especially meeting so many people I'd only "met" online (waves at Barb!).

A Quick Report from RT Booklovers Convention
It's been a mixed bag for me this week so far at the RT Booklovers Convention. The people are great. The venue has some issues (getting to meetings often means changing elevators twice and finding an escalator--figuring out which elevators go to which floor; the bellman...well, we won't even go into that).
I've missed a lot of the sessions because of day-job deadlines that, unfortunately, came with me. So I arrived on Monday night and worked until 2 a.m., then worked until after 2 a.m. Tuesday...

Marsha A. Moore unlocking ancient scribal power in Staurolite (& W*n Staurolite)
First, a quick note. Today's a new episode release day for Storm Force, and I hope you'll hop over to Happy Tails and Tales and say hello to Maghon. A lot of the latter part of the book is set in Maghon's neck of the woods in Louisiana! Also, thanks to My Guilty Obession for spotlighting Storm Force today.
Today, author Marsha A. Moore is here to talk about her most recent release, Staurolite, the fourth book in her Enchanted Bookstore Legends series. Marsha is an author of fantas...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>
