Kamen filled in Ajalira’s full name and then signed it with his own. Darien stood and hugged Kamen, picking him up off the floor in a bear hug. Ajalira laughed.

“Congratulations, old friend,” Darien said, setting Kamen down with a jolt.

Kamen took a deep breath. “Thanks.” He walked back over to Ajalira, took her by the hands, and raised her to her feet. “I must take you now in the presence of the Lord Admiral. He must bear witness to the coupling, and then he will sign and leave.”

Ajalira nodded. Apparently she already knew this, but when she glanced at Darien, Kamen detected some measure of embarrassment in her expression. He resolved then to make it a token penetration. Mid-Week Inspiration: Keeping the Faith

Today I’m going to get personal about my Inspirations. People ask me how I continue to write and stay motivated. There are many answers to that question. Today I’m choosing to tell the story of one writer I look up to,w for her writing abilities as well as her personal journey to success. I’m talking about the one, the only, Laurell K Hamilton “LKH”. This woman showed me what a vampire story could be when I was still young and impressionable and I never forgot it. Guilty Pleasures had everything no one was doing at the time, a strong heroine … no scratch that, A bad ass heroine with powers that boggled the mind and had a creep factor that was through the roof!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the world of Anita Blake Vampire hunter, she’s a necromancer. What’s that?

Necromancer : The practice of supposedly communicating with the spirits of the dead in order to predict the future.

LKH helped change the game and make paranormal romance a widely accepted and enjoyed category. I can still remember sifting through books to try to find just one Para story. Things have certainly changed.

This woman who’s now practically a household named was told by her creative writing instructor to never write again. ( Thank God she didn’t listen!) She ignored them, pressed on and is still penning stories to this day. What I took from that moment was people don’t always know what they’re talking about and keeping the faith ,and pushing forward is the way to make it in the writing industry.

My mother met LKH once. I was away for college and LKH was coming to a Borders in my hometown so my mom went in my stead. When she got up to the counter and told LKH why she was here, LKH was blown away. Told my mom I must be some special kid for her to do this and signed not only the book cover but a personalized bookmark, telling me I was special. There was something in those words, and that extra step she took, that will be forever etched into my mind. I don’t know if I’ll ever meet LKH in person but if I do I simply want to say thank you.

I was up early with the baby and thought this was a perfect time to update all my wonderful followers on what’s going on. Mid Week Inspiration: I’m going to Be the Difference.

I’m just going to give you a heads up that Be the Difference is a theme you’ll see showing up more than once during my Mid-week posts. Its something I’ve believed in my whole life, and now that I have a platform I want to spread that. ( Wow… never thought I’d have a platform…. Amazing how life throws you curve balls)

Today’s inspiration comes to me courtesy of my husband. He’s always telling me things about different marines and the experiences they’ve had. He told me a tale that moved me so much I knew I had to do something. In Afghan a group was under fire from the enemy, and in dire need of being picked up. But they were all out of the special glow sticks that are invisible to the naked eye ( no I’m not making this up) but can be detected on infrared devices. Their only hope was for someone to shine a light. One brave marine did just that and ended up shot through his neck. He lived and the men were rescued but he was left with a semi paralyzed side of his face.

That kind of sacrifice and bravery astounded me. Could I risk my life? For my children yes without out a thought, on a daily basis for my country, ideals of freedom… I’m not so sure. It takes a certain type of person man or woman to make that kind of commitment. I’m proud to say I’m married to one of those brave souls.( The role of a military wife is a challenge all on its own, that I’ll talk about later.)

I used to do a lot of volunteer work for the marines earlier in my marriage when I had more time to dedicate and more freedom. This story made me miss that, and I wanted to make a difference. I’ve come up with a way, and I hope you will support me as I work toward my goal. I am currently compiling a group of short stories to publishing in an Anthology about Marines injured in the line of duty. Half of all the money I make will go to the wounded warrior fund. It’s something my husband and I are very excited about.
