Today I’m looking back. Some folks think it’s a bad idea but I don’t. No matter how slow and unproductive you may think your year was. When you really take time out to look back you’ve moved forward in some way, shape, or form. As we prepare to enter 2013, I’m doing just that. A year ago I was wet behind the ear, soaking up knowledge like a sponge, and making some painful :Winces: mistakes with my writing. Reading my first pieces now I can’t help but cringe a bit, but that’s good. I think humble, especially, in writing will keep you honest and striving to do better. I’m proud of how much I’ve grown, but I’m quick to say I’m still green. I battle with comma’s, pour over the dictionary to find new ways to say things, and put in hours of research to keep things spicy, and interesting. Honestly, I’m grateful
Right now I’m neck deep in the sequel to The Wanting, and I am giving it everything I have. Sequels are difficult. It’s like you’re fighting against yourself to beat your last record. And right now, I have a lot to prove. :inserts rocky theme and writer’s montage:
I feel like an athlete whose been training for a prized bout. It’s been an awesome experience and it’s not over yet. What have you taken on this year? Are you in the middle of a journey?

On Angels Wings Coming to a computer near you tomorrow!
Nikki Prince is a mother of two, who’s always had a dream to be a published author in the romance genre. Her passion lies in raising her children as readers, gaming, cooking, reading and her writing. Her mother can now breathe easy about the child who used to get in trouble because she was hiding books everywhere and reading when it wasn’t appropriate. She’s a multi-published author with several epublishing houses. She loves to write Interracial romances in all genres, but wants to let everyone know to not box her in, because there is always room for growth.
I will be giving away a copy of On Angel’s Wings to a lucky commenter who leaves a comment and an email. It releases December 17, 2012 from Evernight Publishing (http://www.evernightpublishing.com).
Thanks for having me on your beautiful blog Shyla!
Blurb:
Alexa Gray has had more than one tragedy strike at Christmas. The thought of moving on makes her feel she’s staining the memory of the love she shared with her dead husband and child. Can guardian angel Angelo show her she has more love inside her to give?
Excerpt:
Angelo cupped her chin in his hand, this time to pull her face up to his so he could kiss her. His tongue slipped into her mouth, searching out hers, and they dueled like that for a few moments. She groaned as he bit her bottom lip, and then licked it. When his lips left hers, she realized she was holding her breath.
“Angelo…” Even to her she sounded out of breath.
“Yes, dear Alexa?” She shook her head and didn’t say anything more. This was about feeling. He nodded and returned his attention to her lips. He made quick work of her clothing, letting everything drop on the floor. Not to be outdone, she placed her hands on his shirt and pulled it up, baring his chest, and then off of his head, tossing it to the floor. She moved in close to him, kissing his chest softly, and her hands moving to undo the button of his jeans as she tasted his flesh.
Everything about him thrilled her, and she constantly had wet panties when she thought of him. She fought the urge to just pull his pants down and to have him fuck her. No, she wanted something deeper than just that. They could fuck any day. Today, she needed him in the rawest and deepest form. She wanted to feel him at the most basic level with her heart and soul bared to him.
She kept her hands at his pants, not inching them down yet. Swirling her tongue around his nipple, she smiled as he groaned. It was amazing to her how responsive the male anatomy could be. Tugging at the nipple with her teeth, Alexa was encouraged by his hands that went in her hair and held her to him.
“Mmm, oh yes, that’s wonderful, Alexa.”
Bringing her head up, she switched attention to his other nipple but this time adding in suction from her mouth. His low growl sent pleasure spiking up her spine, and she couldn’t resist nipping him there. He grunted and pulled her head back, gently slanting his lips over hers with a soft groan.
He placed her hand at his pants then released her. She knew what he wanted just with that gesture. Undoing them, she jerked them down his hips and freed him. Unable to stop herself, she glanced down and at his cock. God, it was beautiful. He was beautiful. She knelt before him, taking his cock in her hand and stroked him slowly.
“Alexa…aren’t I supposed to be taking you to bed?”
“Yes, but it’s my turn.”
The head of his cock had a pearly bead of pre-come and she couldn’t resist giving it a swipe of her tongue. She peered into his eyes as she licked the head of his cock again and then placed the tip in her mouth, slowly suckling.
He arched into her and gripped the back of her head. With short and shallow thrusts of his hips, he slid his cock all the way into her mouth and she moaned around it. She placed her hands on his thighs, feeling the power there as he fed her his cock. His taste hit her tongue, and she purred as a swirling hunger hit the pit of her stomach and went straight to her throbbing clit. Pulling back a bit on his cock, she licked around the head, swiping underneath with quick little flicks that produced a growl from him.
She was just getting started, and he slipped from her mouth. Alexa grumbled in protest, then he picked her up into his arms and settled on the bed with her in front of him, face to face. She gazed at him and leaned up to kiss him lightly, before she lay back against the pillows.
“I guess now you’re actually taking me to bed.” She winked at him and he chuckled.
“Yes, I guess now that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
He reached for one of the condoms they’d left out on the nightstand opened it, donned it, and put the wrapper on the same nightstand. Turning back to her, he smiled and positioned himself over her, nudging her legs open with his own. Taking his cock in hand, he set it at her entrance and thrust forward, seating himself into her fully.
Her breath caught and she placed her hands on his shoulders, wrapping her legs up high around his waist. She whimpered as he hit so deep within her she could swear he touched her cervix.
“Oh!”

Friday Free For All: Karma Paid back
I know this is coming in ridiculously late, but it was so worth it. I’m continuing on my Pay it forward kick because some really amazing things happened today. I know my kidlet is just two, but I talk to her like she’s much older. Why? Because if I want her to act a certain way I believe I have to treat her that way, within reason, of course. Last night we talked about the children who didn’t have any presents and how sad that would be. I told her we could help them by buying presents. She was so excited, it chocked me up. Well, today we went, picked some toys out and dropped them off at Toys for Tots.
One by one she placed this gifts into a bin and I couldn’t have been prouder. Her “Yay kids!” was priceless.
Later while we were at Target an older woman comes up to me and she has tears in her eyes. She said, forgive me if I’m chocked up but I just wanted to commend you on your parenting skills. The way you talk to your girls and they listen was just wonderful to see. So many times you don’t see that anymore and children don’t listen. It does me good to see that. *Mind Blown. I was not expecting it ,and after an entire day of shopping and two prior bathroom breaks for my todlet I was not feeing like a shining example of parenting. Lol.
I value the opinion of elderly people. They’ve seen and done so much. Plus, there times we’re simpler and manners weren’t optional so to be singled out by one of them is an honor. One of my pet peeves is bad manners, so I’m constantly on my littles to please, and thank you, and show respect. Being a mother is a thankless jobs in many ways so this made my day. It just drives home that if you put positive energy out there it’ll get back to you when you least expect it.
Imagine what the world would be like if we all said or did one positive thing a day for others. Sure, it might take a little out of our way but I guarantee it’ll leave a lasting impression, and isn’t it worth it? Food for thought, right? I’m planning on continuing this attitude of gratitude past Christmas , but there’s something about the season that recharges me. How about you?

Mid Week Inspiration: Pay it Forward
Mid-week Inspiration : Pay it forward
I know I’ve been talking a lot about taking time to refresh, renew, and how leaving other things behind is hard but necessary. While you guys now I’m a girl who walks the walk, not just talks the talk, and I’m happy to report my creativity is at an all time high and my spirits are soaring. There’s something magical about this time of year that brings the best out of people. So my topic is paying it forward.
When’s the last time you did something for someone just because you knew they needed it? Or to share a kind word. I was in the grocery store on bass with my two girls, one in a baby carrier, one in a grocery cart, and a stack of groceries. It’s times like these I wish I could be better person. I’m splitting my attention, constantly correcting the toddler, jiggling the baby to keep her occupied, or in this case I think I was nursing ( yes I have a cover I don’t just wip em out, I promise lol) and checking my list. I feel like my tone is too harsh , I’m frazzled, just not my best.
In the midst of this chaos a women came up to me, and she said” I’m sorry , I just had to stop you and compliment you on your fantastic parenting skills. I’m a Pediatrics’ nurse, and you don’t see that often.” Was this woman sent from God? How could she know I needed to hear this? The timing was spot on and my “Mommy confidence” Was bolstered. When you take the time to give a compliment, do something kind, you never know how much they made need to hear it. I’m literally getting all mushy and teary just typing this. The thought of leaving my carbon footprint of kindness behind fills me with joy.
Speaking of giving I have plenty of giveaways planned this month so keep your eyes out. Here’s my first for No Man Left Behind. Simply head over to the link Contest and tell me how you plan to give back this season.
Keep up the random acts of kindness my friends, its how we make this world a better place.

Mid Week Inspiration: Rekindling the spark, this gal takes it back to a place of love and joy
Mid Week Inspiration : Re Kindling the Spark
Re Kindling the Spark
Do you ever have that moment of clarity where you realize your life is all work with no play and you’ve become a very dull Jack or Jane? I looked at myself in the mirror and I didn’t like what I saw. The spunky gal with a sarcastic sense of humor, give em hell attitude, and the pension for marching to the beat of her own drummer was getting dull, boring, and overworked. All the things I never wanted to be. Come on I’m the girl my best friend said had to be a writer so my eccentric behaviors would be self explained. Lol … true story.
This is why yours truly had made some major changes. Don’t worry I’m not stopping writing or slowing down my momentum. I’m just prioritizing and uping the “joy” factor. What’s the joy factor, that’s Shyla speak for what makes you happy. I love writing but it depletes as well as refuels so I always count on my other loves to rejoice me when I’m drained low. I’ve mentioned many times I love music, but I don’t think I’ve mentioned I’m a craft-a-holic. I think I do projects as much for me as for the children. Nope, I’m not ashamed.
So crafting is my game and DIY is my game. The kiddos and I are going to have a blast this week as we cut, color, paste, and mold our way to creative heaven and sensory stimulation. Just making plans and doing prepwork for the rest of the week has me hurtling back toward my state of Zen. The pathways of my brain, twisted as it may be :Winks: are illuminated like a lightning storm. It feels amazing. I was named after Super Girl in the Superman comic verse and sometimes I forget I’m not really required to be her.I always say life is about the little moments but I haven’t been taking enough time to enjoy mine.
Have you ever had a similar “Aha” moment? What did you change?
In the spirit of fun and inspiration I’m participating in a Blog Hop today !
The Next Big thing Blog Hop
I was invited by the wonderful Nikki Prince and There are many more fabulous authors participating , Vivi Dumas, Louisa Bacio

Friday Free For All : My Romantic Night Out
Today I am blazing up the screen like a mad woman. A crazy week has me a little behind and the Marine Ball is going to steal my Saturday writing so I’m trying to add a little writing cushion.
Tomorrow is the Marine Core Ball for my husband and I. For three hours we will be child free, dressed up to the nines and surrounded by adults. ( Hey that’s a rarity these days, lol). I’ll feel like one of the characters in my story. Particularly Zasha from The Wanting who attended a Halloween Ball with Phelan D’Shar. I’ll be posting some pictures next week but I wanted to share the excitement. I look forward to this day, not only because we get to play dress up, and hit the dance floor, but because it’s a chance to watch my husband celebrate being a part of something that’s bigger than himself. I’m proud of him every single day and understand why we both make sacrifices. But poignant moments like this drive things home.
Here’s a sneak peek of my dress.
