Jessica E. Subject’s Writing Update ~ Baking, Gardening, Reading, and Writing

Hello! It’s Tuesday, and time for this week’s Weekly Writing Update. As I mentioned in the title of this post, this past week, I’ve been baking, gardening, reading, and writing. My son’s school held a bake sale to raise funds to help the people of Fort McMurray deal with the fire that ravaged their city, destroying many homes, and leaving the entire city inhabitable until they are able to restore power and clean water to the city. So, I baked cupcakes and cookies to send with him. The containers came back empty, and I look forward to finding out the results of how it went later today. As for gardening, it is tradition in this part of Canada to plant your garden on the Victoria Day long weekend. My good friend, at Deborah Cooke, sent some perenials from her amazing collection home with me. And the vegetables, we bought from Canadian tire. So, while some things didn’t survive being dug up by the dog, everything else survived, and is doing well. I look forward to later this year when the gardens are full with bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

BRYCE ~ I’m still working on revisions to this story. In revisions, I’ve finished writing the second new scene, and have some changes to make in the story before I get to the point where I have to add a third. Hopefully, I’ll get a bunch of writing/revision time this week.

Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post! 

Last week I shared the first excerpt from BRYCE: Galactic Defenders Book One, in which you met Bryce. Remember, he was hunting Erebus when someone asked for a garbage bag. This excerpt directly follows from last week…

Fornax. The creature lunged toward the female voice, Bryce’s arrow stuck in one of its tentacles. A kill, but not instant.

He loaded another arrow. At the risk of being seen, he charged through the hedges. He had to cut the Erebus off before it had a chance to kill the Terran. He leaped over metal furniture and large urns, keeping his focus on the creature.

“What the hell? Get out of my yard!”

The woman rushed him, but Bryce darted around her.

MY SEXY SPACESHIP

For today’s post, I’m sharing an excerpt from SATIN SHEETS IN SPACE, a 1Night Stand story.

Setup: Danyka is making out with her date in an alley, when he says they should finish their date somewhere else…

She had her eyes closed, her lips pressed against his, when the sensation started. First, a tingling in her hands and feet, as he swept his digits deep inside her. The buzz spread up her arms and legs until it engulfed her entire body. She no longer sensed the ground below her.

The man continued to drive his fingers into her core with vigor, ridding her of the urge to pull away and find out what was happening to her. She landed with a thud, feeling returning to her limbs. Nothing stopped the man who held her, though. He continued to ravage her mouth, her jaw, her neck, keeping her pressed against the wall.

But something felt different. Gone was the hard brick pressing through her corset and against her skin. She reached behind to brush her hand along the surface. Soft. Almost like cushioned satin.

With a whimper, she pushed the strange man away. Where was she? What had she been thinking? This is the stupidest, most insane thing I’ve ever done.

The Prince Charming she’d had the fortune of being set up with peered down at her, his gaze intense and filled with lust. “My name is Galan, and we’re in my spaceship.”

At least she now knew his name, but wait…. Spaceship? She stared at the man, disillusioned. She could think of no other explanation for how they had traveled to a new location with the press of a button. Oh God, she’d been abducted by an alien. How would she get out of this situation? The first time she’d done something spur-of-the-moment, and she’d ended up being finger-fucked by an extraterrestrial.

Or was this some kind of elaborate stunt Josh had pulled off? But why? He was on his honeymoon, unable to enjoy his handiwork. Her body grew numb; a loud ringing pierced her eardrums. She could no longer think with the clouds invading her mind. Then she blacked out.

With a deep breath and her Wiccan Haus charm in hand, Trinity folded her completed checklist for items to pack and shoved it into her pocket. She clutched the handle of her suitcase and mustered the courage to step into the portal.

In a flash, lights swirled around her, the sensation of gravity dissipated, her body lightened, and her limbs lingered in the air. She floated up, twisted, and spun on the spot. A faint, but deep voice echoed in the distance, “Incoming.”

In the blink of an eye, she bounced through the end of the portal, crashing into three large, burly men and toppling over a dark-haired stranger.

“Whoa!” He stopped their rolling together and landed on his back. Heated hands gripped her sides as she came to rest on top of his rock solid-chest, face to face. He chuckled. “You okay, princess?”

The sweetness of his warm breath brushed her lips and tingles of electricity ran over her sides where his hands held her steady. A delectable aroma of amber and patchouli wafted past her nose. Trinity leaned closer to his neck and inhaled then jerked. Lost in the depths of his dark eyes and chiseled features. His stare penetrated her and his touch stirred something deep inside. “I’m…oh, my….” She bit her lip.

“Are you hurt?” He frowned.

“No.” She rested her palms on his hard chest. But I don’t think I would notice if I was. My word, you’re handsome. A warmth curled around her spine, followed by giddy tickles in her tummy. Her body responded to the contact and lulled her other senses. In the next instant, she snapped out of her lustful daze with dread. “I’m so sorry,” she sucked in a sharp inhale and eased herself to sit up.

His hands settled on her hips. “I’m not.”

Trinity slammed her eyes shut, her cheeks burned with embarrassment at the sudden realization she now straddled the stranger she had just tackled to the ground. “By the gods, please tell me this did not just happen.” She slung her leg over to kneel on the floor and scrambled to get up. Another set of heated hands gripped her under the arms and lifted her to her feet.

“You landed pretty hard, are you sure you didn’t get hurt?” A second hunk straightened her glasses and brushed her shoulder off.

“I had a cushion to break my fall,” she whispered. Trinity smoothed back her hair to find the tight bun she had slicked her mane into had loosened and stray strands of hair littered her vision. She brushed away the rogue locks, and her breath hitched as her focus landed on another delectable vision.

“And? Are you okay with this?” His skin itched as if bugs crawled underneath. The same sensation came when he’d switched to his human form, but he’d become used to living in it long ago, perfected it before he’d started school. His survival on Earth had depended on his ability to appear human at all times. As he’d aged, the reverse held true. Showing his Ginnunian side stung for the first few minutes.

“Of course. You’re still the sexiest man alive, but in a more extraterrestrial way right now.” She splayed her fingers across his chest. “And I’m honored you chose to show me the real you. I mean, your alien side.”

Happy Wednesday! It’s time for Mid Week Tease. I’m going to share one more excerpt from HER ALIEN HERO, an erotic romance that takes place in Ottawa during a romance readers convention. This story is on sale for 99¢ in May 2016.

Setup: Last time, Melinda and Cooper reunited for the first time since they were in high school. In this excerpt, they have just finished making love for the first time, but Melinda notices something different about him.

Cooper’s gentle strokes along the side of her face brought her back to reality. She opened her eyes and closed them again in an instant. No way! What she’d seen had to be an illusion, a result of her overactive imagination. Or a result of multiple intense orgasms.

Opening one eye at a time, she focused on Cooper and gulped. Same thing. His skin shimmered, somewhat translucent, and appearing to have scales—like a fish—embedded under the top few layers. She had to be hallucinating, high on endorphins.

With hands shaking, she touched his chest. Everything felt the same, but his skin continued to glow.

Cooper smiled and lifted her palm from his chest to his lips. Then she noticed his eyes. Black. All black, void of any color. Was he high on some kind of drug? But that didn’t explain his skin. She pulled away and scooted back on the bed. “What’s wrong with you?”

When would he have taken anything anyway? His issue had to be something more organic, something natural and yet so very, very far from the norm. Had the government experimented on him, genetically altered his genes in utero? She usually didn’t jump to conspiracy theories, but his mother had seldom let him go anywhere. Was she afraid someone would find out?

Cooper glanced at his arm and paled. “Oh no. No, no, no. You weren’t supposed to see me like this. I thought I had better control. Shit, no one is supposed to know.” He rolled off the bed and grabbed her clothes then tossed them on the covers beside her. “Get dressed and then get out. No one is ever supposed to see me like this. Oh fuck!”

Hello! It’s Tuesday, and time for this week’s Weekly Writing Update. For most of the past week, I’ve been catching up on all that I put aside when at Romancing the Capital. But, I did it, and managed to get some revisions done, too.

BRYCE ~ I’ve been working on revisions to this story. In revisions, I’ve added a new scene, and have edited up to the point where I need to add a second new scene. Klaya paused and tried to steady her shaky fingers, mustering the courage she needed most right now. “How’s your drink, Seth?” She sat down adjacent to them.

“Fantastic.” He grinned.

A surprising playfulness rolled over her. “Bet there’s something I can do neither of you can.”

“Climb trees, catch wild game, outrun us?” Seth chimed in with a curious smile.

“Oh, those things.” She waved off his innocence. “I mean something a little more…sassy.”

“Such as?” Rogue narrowed his eyes.

She collected her own garnish and held it up in front of her mouth with a smirk. “Can you tie your cherry stem into a knot, boys?”

“It’s not rocket science. Sure.” Rogue took the bait and started twisting his between his fingers.

“Anyone can do it like that…I mean, with no hands?”

Rogue and Seth lowered their cups and glanced at each other with wide eyes.

“You can tie it in a knot, with no hands?” Seth’s disbelief spurred her on.

She winked and popped the juicy morsel into her mouth. She gripped and tugged with her teeth and devoured the delectable sweetness. “I most certainly can.” Klaya winked and tilted her head back. Satisfied with her captive audience, she eased the stem into her mouth. She swirled her tongue over twisting it into a circle and utilized her teeth as she tucked one end through the hole. Content with her performance, she parted her lips and held the knot between her teeth. She collected it between her thumb and fingertip with a grin and presented her prize to her observers. “Ta da.”

“Holy shit!” Rogue squirmed and adjusted his pants.

Klaya glanced down, pleased with his unmistakable bulge. She snickered when she caught sight of Seth tucking his shirt over his zipper.

“Your talent is, uh….” Seth’s voice was gruff.

“Mind-blowing,” Rogue offered in a throaty whisper.

Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post! 

I’m sorry I missed you all last week, but I was on the road, traveling back from Romancing the Capital. Today, I am sharing an excerpt from my upcoming release, BRYCE: Galactic Defenders Book One.

This comes from the beginning of the story…

Bryce raised his crossbow, lining his sights on the creature standing amongst the bushes, its branch-like tentacles undulating in the gentle breeze. Focusing the crosshairs on the alien’s torso, he drew in a deep breath. He had one shot. If he missed, the Erebus would cry out, alert the natives of Terra to its existence, resulting in more casualties. At first glance, no one on the planet, also called Earth, would believe it anything more than an overgrown bush, but Bryce knew the truth. He’d trained to hunt the creatures from childhood.

Each step carefully placed, he advanced until he stood only twenty feet from the Erebus, no chance to miss the shot. With the slight movement of his finger, he squeezed the trigger, sending a zuranium-tipped arrow racing toward the alien.

“Quinn, would you grab me another garbage bag?”

A SEXY LETTER

For today’s post, I’m sharing an excerpt from NEVER GONNA LET YOU GO, the first book in The Underground series. And this excerpt leads in the next book, NEVER GONNA DESERT YOU.

Setup: Calla has returned from Airondelle without Melina. She was asked by her commander to deliver a letter Brook, Melina’s girlfriend.

“I have something for you.” Calla pulled the note Melina had left under her pillow, out of her bra and handed it to Brook.

Brook gave her a puzzled expression and took the note, reading it. She gasped. “She’s not…?”

She shook her head. “No, she’s not dead. At least, I don’t think so.”

“But why would she do that? Why would she stay there?”

She didn’t comprehend Melina’s reasoning herself. “I think it has something to do with a deal she made with your father.”

Brook looked down at her toes. “I told her not to do it, that we’d find another way. She wouldn’t listen to me. She said my father would always stand in our way. I’m sorry about what she did to Erik. She’s really not like that.”

As she rubbed Brook’s back, guilt overwhelmed her. Brook didn’t know about her and Melina. Maybe it was best she never found out. “I believe she loves you completely. Now, if you feel the same about her, you need to get on the next mission. Change into some dry clothes, continue to grieve her as if she’s dead, but go on the mission. She will find you. What happens afterward, I have no idea.”
