Six Sentence Sunday – Leanne recalls her accident in Accidental Romance #SixSunday

Hello and thank you for coming to read my Six Sentence Sunday post!

Today, I’m sharing six from ACCIDENTAL ROMANCE, a new adult contemporary romance which released from Decadent Publishing along with MADE FOR HER.

Accidental Romance - a New Adult Romance by Jessica E. Subject

Blurb, Buy Links & More

This six follows just after the excerpt I posted for Hump Day Hook this week. The first line of dialogue comes from Leanne’s father.

“If Jake hadn’t been there….”

“Jake?” She tried to recall the night of the accident, what had happened, but everything blurred together. She remembered the spinning blade, her feet slipping…. Oh God. And a voice, someone there beside her.

Happy Endings G!veaway H0p – Jan 19-26 #HEGiveaway

Happy Endings Giveaway HopHello and welcome to the Happy Endings Giveaway Hop! Thank you so much to Reading Romances for hosting this hop!

For those who are new to the blog, I write science fiction romance and contemporary romance ranging from sweet to erotica.

Happy Endings

Oh, I absolutely LOVE happy endings. I can’t end a story without one. And I’m lucky to have my own happy ending in life.

It started many years ago, when I was taking one last course in high school, and gearing up for university. Some of my friends had it in their heads that they had to set me up with a guy before I left. Thankfully, I never had to go on a blind date. Just out with a large group of people. But nothing ever worked out there. Thank goodness!

Then, during that summer, I went to a tug-o-war party with a friend whose husband was on the team. That’s where I met my future husband. Oh, we’d met before, but circumstances didn’t allow us to get to know each other. This time, we spent pretty much the entire party together, and he said good-bye with a kiss. BUT, I didn’t see or hear from him again. Not until two weeks later when I was at work and he came by with at friend. It was a quick hello before he left again. Though, when I phoned home to tell my parents that I had picked up another shift, they told me he had called. When I finally arrived home that night, he called back, and we arranged our first date. The rest is history.

We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’ll have been together for fifteen years this summer. :)

“Daddy, my hand is gone.” Her chest heaved and she struggled to breathe. “It’s gone. Nothing there. How am I supposed to take over the farm?”

“We’ll worry about that when you get out of here. Right now, you need to calm down. Relax.” He squeezed her shoulder, but his touch brought no comfort.

Her hand was gone. The hand she used to write. To eat and brush her hair. To do everything. And she could never get it back.

Sizzling PR VBT: Interview with author LM Preston, author of Purgatory Reign

Welcome LM Preston! It is a pleasure to have you here. Can you tell us about your new release?

LMP: Purgatory Reign is an action packed, paranormal, romance with a splash of adventure, that takes the reader through several cities, into secret hidden sanctuaries while on the run with Peter Saints, our seventeen year old hero and his friends.

Describe the hero in three words.

LMP: Handsome, Gritty, and Complicated.

What traits does the hero posses that makes the heroine swoon?

LMP: His torment. His guilt, and his deep desire to be worthy of someone’s love.

What was your inspiration for this story?

LMP: Well about three years ago, I found a short story my husband wrote for a creative writing class. The story depicted a secret that was hidden from the world and how these adult characters fought to hide this secret. It sparked a story in me and I went to him and asked him if I could write a story, into the future about the kids of the people in his short story. He said ‘I don’t care, go for it’ and I put together the outline for Purgatory Reign and he was floored. He became my sounding board for the core of the story and then I went off and wrote it. When I read it to him (we read my books while we drive on long family trips) he was shocked and happy with what I developed. I now have three books in the Purgatory Reign series that’s already outlined. However, there is room for my husband to build an awesome story on the ancestors who spurned the adventure that my main character, Peter Saints gets caught up in.

Fascinating! It’s cool that you both share the love of writing. What genres do you write in, and what appeals to you about those genres?

LMP: I started writing Middle Grade and Young Adult Sci-fi because I love the freedom of creating a world completely new and exciting for my characters. Then I delved into sweet YA Romance with my short story series, Flutter Of Luv, and enjoyed doing something different to challenge my writing. Now, writing Paranormal that has a spice to it of sci-fi is really fun, since I get to stay in the real world, and add a believable layer of mystery and intrigue.

What other titles do you have published?

LMP: Bandits is a series based on Daniel who is a teen, futuristic pirate, who’s trying to uncover the secrets his father left upon his murder.

The Pack and The Pack-Retribution is a series based on Shamira a teen, blind, vigilante that’s on a mission to save the missing kids on Mars, it’s a Young Adult Sci-fi romance with a dystopian flair.

Explorer X-Alpha and Explorer X-Beta is my Middle Grade series that are based on a group of kids that have been genetically altered to adapt and conquer the species of any planet they encounter.

Flutter Of Luv is the first book in my YA Summer Love short story series that will have three short summer love stories. This story is set in an urban city and tells Dawn’s story of how she landed the school jock.

What are you working on now?

LMP: Wastelands is my current work in progress, I worked on it for nanowrimo and am in the editing stages. It’s the second book in the Bandits series and should be coming out Fall, 2013. Also, I’m finishing up edits on Thundering Luv, book 2 in my Summer Love series that will be coming out in July, 2013.

What writing/writer’s organizations are you involved with? Can you explain how they help your writing and/or your writing career?

LMP: I’m in Maryland Writer’s Association, Yalitchat.org, Mid Atlantic Book Publishers Association, and The Writer’s Guild. All of these organizations are great sources for networking and growth as a writer. But the best way to make ANY organization work best for you is to volunteer. Get involved, and grow the organization. You don’t have to be famous or experience to be a part of growing a group like any of the above.

Do you belong to a critique group or have critique partners? If so, what have you learned from them? How has it affected your writing?

LMP: My main critique partners are my husband and my teenaged kids. They are brutally honest. Once I’ve gone through their ripping up, I send my manuscript out to other authors who beta read for me. Once that’s done, I do it three more times. By using critique partners and beta readers, I get to see how the ‘reader’ is interpreting the story. It helps me to improve my work and make it a fuller experience for the reader.

Where can my readers find you?

LMP: I’m always on facebook or twitter. I participate in several twitter chats, like the #yalitchat that is every Wed at 9pm EST.

Purgatory Reign

Tagline: Something evil this way comes, unfortunately for it, Peter Saints is waiting.

Seventeen-year-old Peter Saints’ life stinks. But things are about to get much worse. First, his parents are murdered in front of him. Then another victim dies in his arms.

Visions plague Peter with warnings that something wants him for a sinister cause. It desires the one thing that Peter refuses to give - his blood.

On the run with Angel, a scruffy kid, Peter starts to unravel the mystery. It’s the one secret the heavens sought to hide from the world. Unfortunately, when Peter finds the answer he hopes that will save the girl he loves, he opens the door to a great evil that happens to be salivating to meet him.

Excerpt:

A sickening thump made Peter jerk around. His face crinkled with fury. The car threw the sparse girl’s body upwards into the air, and sped off down the street. She bounced several times on the pavement. Peter ran and knelt beside her. Blood dribbled from her lip. And he felt like garbage, being the cause of her injury.

She smiled at him. “Petah. I…knew you would come.” Her dazed eyes never left his face. “Take me home, Petah.”

He shook his head and searched around. Surprised the street was now deserted. Tendrils of guilt filled his chest. Another one…my damn fault.

My fault.

Author Bio:

LM. Preston was born and raised in Washington, DC. An avid reader, she loved to create poetry and short-stories as a young girl. With a thirst for knowledge she attended college at Bowie State University, and worked in the IT field as a Techie and Educator for over sixteen years. She started writing science fiction under the encouragement of her husband who was a Sci-Fi buff and her four kids. Her first published novel, Explorer X – Alpha was the beginning of her obsessive desire to write and create stories of young people who overcome unbelievable odds. She loves to write while on the porch watching her kids play or when she is traveling, which is another passion that encouraged her writing.

Cover Reveal: The Dragon Empire by Heather McCorkle

The Dragon Empire by Heather McCorkle

Cover designed by CP Design.

The Dragon Empire by Heather McCorkle

– February 2013 /  Compass Press

On Yacrana, dragons stand at the top of the evolutionary ladder instead of humans. Such an advanced species is not without its issues though.

There’s trouble in the Dragon Empire, the kind that could start a war between dragons and the races of people. Hidden factions of dragons believe they should rule the lesser races, not simply stand aside and allow them to develop as they will. Having lived so long in peace, the Emperors turn a blind eye, many oblivious that such attitudes even exist.

Despite being only an architect class, emerald dragon, Grendar is willing to risk banishment and death to stop that which his rulers refuse to see. The hope of peace lies not within the scaled breast of a dragon however, but within the hands of a group of people. But if the hidden factions have their way, these people won’t live to fulfill such a destiny. With a reluctant seer at his side, Grendar must leave his precious Empire for the outside world to save those that will one day save his kind.

Six Sentence Sunday: Colonel Jones’s surprise revealed in Made For Her #SixSunday

Hello and thank you for coming to read my Six Sentence Sunday post!

Today, I’m sharing another six from MADE FOR HER, a military sci-fi erotic romance set to release this Tuesday, January 15, from Decadent Publishing.

Made For Her by Jessica E. Subject

Blurb & More

Colonel Mikayla Jones is confronting General Madison after she left her squadron. Remember, Daniel is her late husband.

Her commanding officer rose from his desk, his hands raised in the air. “Now calm down, Colonel Jones, and remember who you are talking to.”

She slammed the door. “I can’t believe you let them clone Daniel and then send him to me to train. I had no problem training them when I didn’t know who they were made from, but this is just…wrong. Daniel never gave permission.”

Protection. Adventure. Love. Guest Post by Kacey Hammell & G!veaway!

Protection. Adventure. Love.

It’s all found within The Arms of the Law…

These words above are key in my “In the Arms of the Law” series.

And I’ve been asked a couple questions frequently in some interviews and I’ll ask readers now as well.

What makes series so appealing to me?

Would you rather read series or single titles?

I love series for the fact that I can revisit recurring characters and learn more about the family/friendships with each story told. The characters become even more special and I come to care greatly about all of them.

I would prefer to read series for all the reasons mentioned above, but do appreciate single titles as often as well.

Tell me what you think! (And you’ll be entered in the giveaway below!)

~Kacey
