The Appeal of the Cowboy – Guest post by author @BrennaZinn #Western #Romance

WhenaLadyMeetsaKingTour

Please give a huge welcome to fellow Decadent Publishing author, Brenna Zinn!

Jessica! I’m so glad to be back on your blog.  You are one of my favorite people in the writing bizz and your followers are truly some of the best.  You’re a lucky woman.

A loud and rowdy, “Hey, Y’all from Austin, Texas” goes out to you, readers.  (If you’re wondering if people from Austin really are that friendly, the answer is unequivocally YES.  Especially if you greet us with a beer or margarita.)

The topic of my blog today is the appeal of the cowboy.

Cowboy by post with bridle

Take a look at this guy.  Did a shiver go down your spine?  Mine too when I first saw him.  Without his saying a word or even seeing his face we know some basic facts about this guy.  He’s strong.  He’s independent.  He’s the kind of guy who takes what he wants, values what he has, and will fight to the death to protect what he cherishes. He’s works hard, plays hard, and when he falls for the right girl, he loves with ever fiber of his being.  He’s a cowboy.  An icon of the American West.  A true American hero and the stuff of romance and legends.

Before finally settling deep in the heart of Texas, home of the cowboy, I lived in Montana – another place where cowboys (and Indians) also hang out.  I’ve met many a cow punch who had me drooling like one of my English Mastiffs after a good walk around the park.  Believe me, it’s not a pretty sight.  There’s just something almost indescribable about how these men can lure a woman in without even trying.  The mystic of the American cowboy is enough to charm even the most sensible woman into dropping her panties before she even realizes she’s lifted her skirt.

I used this mystic in my book When A Lady Meets A King.  My heroine, Lady Pembrook, decides to sneak off to San Antonio, Texas to fulfill a fantasy of a one night stand with a real American cowboy. (Yes, the lure even reaches as far as England.)  But what Lady Pembrook doesn’t realize is she’s a damsel in distress when intrigue starts to rear its mysterious head.  Luckily there’s bigger than life, sexy cowboy there to save the day…or is he?

Here’s a little more about my book, When A Lady Meets a King.  I hope you enjoy it.  And please feel free to visit me any time at my website and blog.   WWW.BrennaZinn.com and WWW.BrennaZinn.blogspot.com.

When a Lady Meets a King by Brenna ZinnWhen A Lady Meets a King by Brenna Zinn:

Lady Pembrook went to great lengths, traveling thousands of miles and assuming a false identity, to satisfy her fantasy of a one night stand with a real Texas cowboy. But can she fulfill her dream of a naughty sexual encounter after discovering a mysterious stranger in dark sunglasses threatens to expose her scandalous behavior in America?

Though riding bulls and taming wild horses aren’t the only risks Burton King has taken in a lifetime of working on a ranch, nothing scarred him deeper than falling for the wrong woman. When he finds a damsel in distress, will the oath he swore to never get involved with another woman keep him from finding the woman of his dreams?

Excerpt:

Her English accent, both refined and seductive, lingered in his head like a favorite melody. Leaning in, he took her hand in his, noting the softness of her touch and the aroma of her perfume. Vanilla and warm brown sugar. She smelled like a fresh-baked cookie, perfect for eating. He stopped himself from licking his lips. “I’m Burton King. It’s my pleasure. Mind if I join you?”

Before answering, she took a deep inhale and released it. In that brief moment her demeanor abruptly changed. Like a switch had been flipped somewhere deep inside her, the vulnerable lamb suddenly vanished.

“Absolutely Mr. King. My pleasure.” She removed her purse from the bar stool next to hers and patted the wood seat. “I hoped this wouldn’t stay empty for long.”

Once high pitched and riddled with fear, her voice had become low and steady, her trembling body calm. If he hadn’t had his eye on her from the moment she’d left the hotel lobby, he would have sworn the lady sitting at the bar was an entirely different woman.

Her shift from damsel-in-distress mode triggered an alarm in his head. Something about this situation seemed off. Just plain wrong. No doubt he should turn around and leave this pot of brewing trouble behind. Did he really want to take on someone else’s problems?

But now that he’d seen her up close—good Lord, the woman was beautiful—he couldn’t walk away. Budding lust and intrigue kept his feet cemented to the floor.

Why is this gorgeous woman here all alone?

Thank you and happy reading.

Ciao – Brenna Zinn

When Mikayla switched the display to the live feed from Onatria’s main lab in Geneva, she cringed at the collective gasp. Robotic arms transferred material between petri dishes at various stations while other, more complex equipment dissected strains of DNA. Human-born and clones alike wore white lab coats and watched new life grow under their telescopes. And in a glass-walled clean room, casket-like clear chambers held young clones attached to a multitude of tubes. Except for the military and Onatria staff, this was the first time anyone had seen the labs. The government had grown desperate for people to enlist. Clones, fully incubated at one year, resembled a teenaged human-born and lived better than most of the people there to watch the presentation. That was, until the clones left the labs four years later. Then they became nothing more than a possession of the military, a weapon trained for combat. And none, as of yet, had developed long enough to resemble an officer her age. They were killed in battle or by rebel attacks before they had the chance to live a long life.

Sizzling PR VBT: Interview with Rachell Nichole, author of An Affair Across Time Square & G!veaway!

Heartbreaker Blog Hop

AnAffairAcrossTimesSquareTour

Welcome to the blog, Rachell! Can you tell us about your latest release?

RN: An Affair Across Times Square is a contemporary erotic romance set in New York City.

Here’s the official blurb: Layla Morgan is tired of getting into trouble, and getting hurt. And she fears her wild nature is going to strike yet again. But maybe this time, she’s finally met the guy that can stand close enough to touch her inner flames, and not get burned.

Tyler Lachlan doesn’t stand a chance of resisting the delicious distraction of the mystery woman across Times Square. He’s sure there’s more to her than her sultry voice and mahogany thighs, but he doesn’t know if he’s willing to risk his career to find out.

Could what began as a voyeuristic affair across Times Square develop into something more?

Describe the heroine in three words.

RN: Sassy, daring, Trouble.

Who is your favorite character from this book? And, can you include an excerpt involving this character?

RN: I really love Layla. She’s one of my most damaged characters. She’s been kind of branded a slut her whole life and she’s tired of it. This excerpt comes early on in the book, after Layla’s started seeing Tyler through the window (in more ways than one) and she’s talking about it with her BFF, Eddie. I’ve cut a bit in the middle of the scene so I can show you what I mean about her as a character.

“No. There’s nothing sweet about it. It’s just about getting some satisfaction in my life.” Even though she’d been letting herself think of it as more, she wouldn’t let him know that. Not yet. “And staying away from my married boss.”

“Why didn’t you just go pick up a guy in a bar, girl?” Eddie asked.

“Eh, that doesn’t hold any appeal for me. It never did. You know that. I only seem to be able to sleep with people I actually give a shit about, even when they’re the really, really wrong people for the job.” She took another sip that burned all the way down. Then she took another. She wanted the burn. Needed something to remind herself she was here, now. Alive. “Fast cars, fast life, fun, and casual sex usually go together, I know. But I’m just not wired that way. It’s gotta be someone special, you know? Not some random guy I picked up in a seedy bar. Or even a nice one, for that matter. Maybe that’s why I’m having such an issue with this. He’s kind of just a random guy, you know? He asked me my name tonight.”

“And?”

“And I just shook my head. No way. I’m way too embarrassed. It’s bad enough he knows where I live—at least where I’m staying while I’m here. No. We need to leave names out of the equation. He asked me if I was married too. What business did he have playing voyeur with what he thought could be a married woman?” The irony of her indignation was not lost on her. Could she really be pissed at him for fooling around with a potentially married woman, when she’d been sleeping with a married man? Though Jason had told her outright that he didn’t have anyone. Mr. TS hadn’t had a clue when he’d first peeked in her window like some crazy person. “What if he’s unbalanced? What if I’m unbalanced? This is crazy, right?”

“Well, yeah. But sometimes crazy’s not such a bad thing, you know?” Eduardo put the tray on the bedside table. He reached an arm around her, snuggled beside her on the bed. “What if he turns out to be a nice guy?”

The thought made her stomach bottom out. No. She couldn’t let herself think about it like that. If he was a nice guy, he might be even more tempting.

“No. Nice guys don’t have torrid voyeuristic masturbation affairs.” Saying the words out loud made her feel dirty. Like it was wrong. Damn the guilt her mother had instilled in her almost from birth. She’d never quite be able to get away from it, would she?

“Okay. So. It’s time for you to think. And not to run away. Unless you decide that’s what you want. I mean, okay, kind of crazy what you two are doing, but that doesn’t make it wrong. And you have no reason to feel like it is. It’s two consenting adults engaging in a little recreational activity. Just go with it. See where it leads you.” He pulled her close.

“He asked me if I’d be here this weekend, and I told him yes. So I guess that means he’ll be here today or tomorrow. I’m scared. Really, really scared.” God, she hated how lost her voice sounded. Hated how it wavered as she spoke. It had been three years since Jason. She was over it. She had to be over it. She would not allow him to ruin the rest of her life with his stupidity and betrayal. She didn’t have anything to be afraid of. But even as she thought the words, she knew they were utter bullshit. She had everything to be afraid of.

What if she ruined this guy’s life like she’d almost done to Steven, when his family wanted him to choose between her and them? She’d made the decision and left before he could stop her. She wasn’t worth anyone giving up their family for.

What if she ruined her own life this time? Then everyone would see her for the fuckup she was. They’d see she was wild, crazy. Unable to control herself. Just like her parents had said.

What other titles do you have published?

RN: Spicy with a Side of Cranberry Sauce is a holiday erotic romance that is set between the day before Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Mason and Amy are instantly attracted to one another, but when they find their parents are dating, they try to cool the flames.

Queen of Hearts is a short lesbian erotic romance set in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day between matchmaker Erica Jones and event planner Maya Cobb. Astrology says they’re compatible, but neither woman can be sure.

What are you working on now?

RN: The sequel to An Affair Across Times Square. It’s already had a couple different working titles, so for now we’re just calling it Marietta Hotels Book Two. It stars Mandy Lachlan, Tyler’s younger sister and her fiancé, Julien Chevalier.

Here’s the blurb:

All Mandy Lachlan wanted was her own identity. All she had to do was run away to Paris to find it. Instead, she finds love, a baby, and a marriage proposal.

Julien Chevalier needs to be free of Paris and his life there. As soon as he graduates, he’s moving to New York. But when he falls for a young American professor in love with the charm of his birth city, he’s determined to sway her back to the states with him.

But will her lukewarm reception to marriage plans make him run away to New York without her?

An Affair Across Times Square by Rachell Nichole

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

RN: Both.  :) I usually start out with characters, and build a plot around them, but sometimes I’m plagued with one scene that I know will be in the book and everything else comes out of that. An Affair Across Times Square started like that – an idea of the opening scene hit me when I was in a hotel in Times Square and realized that I could see into the offices of the men and women working across the square. I wrote this book as a NaNoWriMo book, so there wasn’t much time for plotting, other than the main romance turning points. The books I’ve written since then have mostly been plotted. But a lot of times I’ll plot main highlights and then pants in between those points.

Author Giveaway!

Jessica, thanks so much for the interview. And Thank you readers for stopping by. I’d like to add a giveaway to this post. Leave a comment with your e-mail to be entered to win a free e-book copy of An Affair Across Times Square.

Blog Tour for The Dragon Empire by @HeatherMcCorkle #fantasy #dragons #newrelease

Heartbreaker Blog Hop

Hello! Today we’re celebrating the release of Heather McCorkle’s fantasy novel, The Dragon Empire! For today’s stop Heather is answering the following question:

Are the dragons in your book shapeshifter?

Heather: No. While they can take other forms it is only with the use of magic, only temporary, and not all of them can do it. I figured there are enough great shapeshifter stories out there and not enough stories about just dragons, so my dragons are ‘all’ dragon. :)

B&N / Amazon / Goodreads

Here is a bit about it:

On Yacrana dragons are the advanced species. But advanced doesn’t always mean civilized…

There’s trouble in the Dragon Empire, the kind that could start a war between dragons and the races of people. Hidden factions of dragons believe they should rule the lesser races, not simply stand aside and allow them to develop as they will. Having lived so long in peace, the Emperors turn a blind eye, many oblivious that such attitudes even exist.

Despite being only an architect class, emerald dragon, Grendar is willing to risk banishment and death to stop that which his rulers refuse to see. The hope of peace lies not within the scaled breast of a dragon however, but within the hands of a group of people. But if the hidden factions have their way, these people won’t live to fulfill such a destiny. With a reluctant seer at his side, Grendar must leave his precious Empire for the outside world to save those that will one day save his kind.

While The Dragon Empire is for ages young adult and up, it does contain mild violence and some difficult subject matter.

Heartbreaker Blog H0p – #scifi #military #romance #giveaway

Heartbreaker Blog Hop

Heartbreakers – Are they Good or Bad?

There are many reasons for someone to break your heart. Sometimes they think they’re doing it with the best intentions, trying to SAVE you, or prevent you from giving up on your plans for them. These are selfless heartbreakers. But they don’t always know what’s best.

Then there are the self-centered heartbreakers, or players, moving on because they fear commitment. Sometimes these heartbreakers can change, more so in fiction than in real life.

Made For Her by Jessica E. SubjectIn my recent release, Made For Her, the heartbreaker isn’t the hero, but someone who thinks he knows best for the heroine. Here’s an excerpt:

“I love him, Bernie. He’s the first man I’ve loved since Daniel, and you stole him from me. How could you?”

“I thought it was for the best. I wanted to stop things before they got too serious. I was too late, though, and I’m sorry.”

“But why? Am I not allowed to be happy?” She’d been holding in her tears, but the dam broke. She sat back down and wrapped her arms around her knees, rocking her body back and forth beside her husband’s grave. “After Daniel died, I never thought I’d be able to give my heart to another. I put up a wall, but Dare broke through. Maybe it’s because he looks like Daniel, I don’t know. But I do love him, and now you’ve sent him on a suicide mission.”

“You know the rules, Mikayla. I thought it was the right thing to do. He was going to leave anyway, and I didn’t want you to consider going with him. I didn’t want you to find out.”

She wiped her face. “Find out what?”

The general stood up then reached out to help her to her feet. “Come with me. I need to show you something.”

Sizzling PR VBT: Interview with @JoAnneKenrick, author of Threesome Sweetness #1NightStand

Tour for Threesome Sweetness by JoAnne Kenrick

Welcome to my blog JoAnne! It’s a pleasure to have you here. How long have you been writing with the hopes of publication?

JK: It took me one year from opening up my first manuscript and typing the first word to getting it accepted at a publisher. Five months of that was about me running around in the dark not knowing the hows/wheres about the industry. And I’m still learning. Aren’t we all?

Yes, always so much to learn in this constantly changing industry. How did you get started?

JK: My first time being published, ever, was a non-fiction piece about Psychic Art for a coffeetable-esk magazine. Then I caught the bug and slowly made the transition from non-fiction to fiction.

What genres do you write in, and what appeals to you about those genres?

JK: I write paranormal and contemporary romances, and to mix things up, I also write erotica horror shorts (Tales from the Coffin). My most favorite thing about writing in the romance genre is the development of the hero and heroine and helping them work through their issues to help them ‘come together’ for the happy ever after. It’s pretty awesome to share their story, to watch them grow and love and heal. And for the horrors, the opposite is true. I love torturing my characters and finding new ways to end their journeys in a twisted, messed up way.

What is your most recent release?

JK: My best selling Irish Kisses series, which is apart of Decadent Publishing’s 1Night Stand series. The most recent book is a winter snow storm type story set in a remote Irish Castle, and is my favorite story so far for this series. I love Sandra the barmaid, she’s like a good friend to me now having been in each of the four Irish Kisses stories to day.

BLURB:

Hot winter kisses to warm broken hearts….

Sick of tending to everyone else’s needs around the holidays, divorced barmaid and granny Sandra ferries it from London to Belfast. All she wants for Christmas is some peace with a romance story in front of a roaring fire in a remote Irish castle. What she gets is a most unexpected Christmas present from her friends at Bell’s—A 1Night Stand with a young Irishman.

Can she hack it in the real world of romance, or are life’s complications and treacherous snowstorms best left to the pages of a book?

Newly widowed Ardan Draighean owns Ballygalley castle. Once run as a hotel with his late wife, the stone building now serves as a home for him and his son. After hearing about Madame Eve’s matchmaking skills, he contacts her in search of the perfect match. Although much older than him—by fifteen years—Sandra is his ideal woman. He be damned if he’ll let a good story get in the way of his happy ever after with her.

Hot winter kisses are all this couple needs to stay warm this Christmas, but will the heat stay long after the magical season of mistletoe has finished?

What are you working on now?

JK: I’m working on a paranormal trilogy; 3 novellas set in Port St. Mary, a quaint little coastal village on the Isle of Man.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

JK: A panster, sort of. Put me in the middle there somewhere. I’ll rustle up a quick blurb and brainstorm a few ideas before I sit down to write. Then I fly by the seat of my pants and fast draft a story right until the very end. Then comes lots of edits and revisions and layering. This process works best for me. I’ve tried plotting; I got bored of writing the story because I knew the ending.

What genres do you enjoy reading?

JK: Anything. If the blurb and cover pull me in, I’ll give it a go regardless of genre. I do however have a particular love for vampires and/or bad boys on bikes ;) combine the two, and I’m in heaven!

Where do your best ideas come from?

JK: My warped imagination is always pulling story/series ideas from thin air, no idea where they come from… they just appear and then bug me until I open a new work-in-progress. Sometimes the idea will spark from a word or a joke, or from a product or my own experiences. Those ideas are everywhere and anywhere. If I could get paid for ideas, I’d be loaded!

What is your favorite book that you’ve read?

JK: The compulsive reader that I am, there have been so many. But just recently, I read one book that left me with a major book and decade hangover; Love Me or Leave Me by Stephanie Draven. It’s a novella length story following the troubles of a married couple. Speakeasies, spanking, darlings and Janes, and a hero so bad and damaged that I couldn’t  help but love him. Told in the first person point of view in present tense, I didn’t stop turning the pages until the last word had been read. One sitting. Addictive! I wrote a review here for anyone who would like to discover more about the book: http://britauthor.blogspot.com/2013/01/love-me-or-leave-me-by-stephanie-draven.html

Excerpt:

Is three company or a crowd?

Strutting the length of the suite, he wore nothing but a cowboy hat and a smile. Cocky bastard. She had insisted he leave it on. Heat twisted and turned within, saturating her inside out as she skimmed the length of him from behind her lashes. From his ruggedly handsome face and strong jaw line, to the beads of sweat glistening on his rippled chest, she was tempted to trace her hand over his ass.

He turned his head and set his gaze upon her, looking like one of those heroes from one of Sandra’s romance covers. Except without pants. Her pulse quickened.

“Ma’am.” He dipped his hat, shading his stare with the dark shadow caused by the rim of the Stetson. “Said you wanted more excitement in your life on your 1Night Stand profile. I hope I don’t disappoint you.”

“And what did ya 1Night Stand profile say about ya, pray tell?” She leaned against her husband, trying to seem casual. Adrenaline pumped through her hard and fast, calmed slightly by Todd’s touch. He stroked her side, gentle, reassuring.

“That I’m a businessman in town looking for some serious, clean fun.”

“Don’t people like ya use a card stuck ta a phone box when ya want a shag on a business trip?” She stumbled over her interrogation, desperate to find something wrong with him, a reason why they shouldn’t progress with their evening together.

“Stop questioning the man. He’s not here to chit-chat.” Her husband kissed her cheek, “And if you really don’t want this, we can end it now. Whatever you want, Beth.”

“It’s fine. She wants this. She wants to know it’s all good, clean fun. I understand. Better to be upfront about these things and get them out of the way.” He shrugged. “But you misunderstood me. I don’t want a meaningless one-night stand. I want the experience to mean something.” His tone softening, he strolled to her side. “Something special verses a quick fuck, you understand?”

She snorted. “Why on earth would ya think a married couple could give ya…something special?” Dipping his hand under the collar of her dress, he eased the material from her shoulder while unzipping her. Her outfit skimmed her body on its way to the floor. The room temperature was tepid, yet chills raced up her spine. She wanted to grab his wrist, to scream at him to stop. Yet no matter how awkward he made her feel, she could not get away from the fatal attraction she had for him. She should play nice; after all, this was her birthday present and she might hurt dear Todd’s feelings if she didn’t try to enjoy every second of it.

“I’m going to give you guys a minute alone to get acquainted.” Her husband strode to the en-suite bathroom and shut the door behind him, leaving her alone with this…man.

It wasn’t going to be an easy thing to choreograph, keeping two men happy.

#HumpDayHook for February 6 from Made For Her #scifi #military #romance

Hump Day HookGood day! Here’s another taste of Made For Her, an erotic science fiction romance.

“If you join the military today, you will learn how to fly these vessels and train the clones for future wars. Science fiction has now become our reality.” Yeah, like that would work to recruit people. Who wrote this speech anyway? Very few, if any, would ever make it to the SFTC, Space Flight Training Center. “It will never be your life on the line, but that of men and women created only for that purpose.
