Interview with @Alicia_Dean_, Author of Liberty Awakened #paranormal #vampire #giveaway

It gives me great pleasure to welcome Alicia Dean. She is a super busy woman and a wonderful author who I have gotten to know over the past few months. Welcome, Alicia! Tell us about your new release.

AD: My latest release is a YA Vampire Novella, (Liberty Awakened Isle of Fangs Book 1)

Liberty Awakened by Alicia DeanBLURB:

Evil lurks beneath the surface in the beauty of the tropics…

After graduation from her small, Oklahoma high school, Liberty Delacort is looking forward to a fun-filled summer before college. But when the people she trusts the most betray her, and a letter arrives claiming the father she thought was dead is still alive, she jumps at the chance to travel to an exotic island to meet him.

But her excitement is short-lived. Her father is dying, and he doesn’t want her around. In spite of its outward tranquility, the island is filled with danger and ominous secrets. Before long, the secrets begin to unravel. She learns she is a descendant of Van Helsing, the vampire hunter, and she must fulfill her destiny in order to save humans from a faction of vicious vampires. The only man who can help her learn the skills she needs is a volatile, hostile, vampire who wants her off the island.

Will her inexperience lead to her death—and the death of others—or will she rise to the challenge and realize her full potential as a Hunter?

Describe the heroine in three words.

AD: Courageous, Hemophobic, Lost

What traits does the hero posses that makes the heroine swoon?

AD: I have a love triangle brewing, and there is some, but not a lot of swooning yet. However, the traits that draw her to both men are Ryan’s kindness/protectiveness and Eli’s danger/passion

What was your inspiration for this story?

AD: I am enthralled with Vampires, and I always wanted to write a Vampire story. This one came to me and seemed a little unique, so I thought I would give it a shot.

Who is your favorite character from this book? Can you include an excerpt involving this character?

AD: That’s tough. I think I like Eli the most at the moment. Here is a snippet:

At the Van Helsing house, Eli climbed out and opened the passenger door. Sliding one arm beneath Liberty’s knees and one behind her back, he gently lifted her from the car. Her head lolled against his shoulder. His chest tightened at the soft feel of her against him. He tilted his head, the urge to rub his cheek along the silky hair more powerful than any craving for blood he’d ever had. He gritted his teeth and forced the thought away. Get a grip, man. She’s not for you. Not in a million years.

Favreau opened the door as soon as Eli stepped onto the porch. He moved back and gestured for Eli to enter, then followed him up the stairs.

Antoine turned the knob to her bedroom, and Eli went inside and lowered her onto the mattress. She didn’t move. Her thick lashes cast a shadow against her pale cheeks. Her breasts rose and fell with her steady breathing. That same tightening came back to his chest, moving up to his throat.

“I can take it from here,” Antoine said. “How did she do?”

Eli curled his lip. “She’s getting better,” he whispered. “But she’s not a warrior.”

“She must learn to be.” Antoine put a hand on Eli’s arm, and he turned to face the older man. “She cannot be your Grande Amour.”

“I know that,” he snapped, still whispering.

“Does she?”

“She is with Ryan.”

“A woman, especially a young woman her age, can have many loves. Does she know why she can never be yours?”

A whoosh of air escaped Eli’s lungs. He didn’t want to discuss this with Antoine—or anyone else for that matter. He knew Liberty had to mate with a human. She had to continue the Van Helsing line…have babies with another man. He couldn’t give her that. Not ever. He damn sure didn’t need Antoine reminding him.

He shook his head, then spun and stalked from the room.

How long have you been writing with the hopes of publication?

AD: Since September, 2001. (I ‘hoped’ my entire life to be published, but started actively pursuing it a little over 11 years ago)

How did you get started?

AD: I took a class with author Mel Odom. He is an amazing instructor. Very encouraging and supportive. One particular exchange with him gave me the confidence and incentive to keep writing. I told him I was overwhelmed by the thought of writing an entire book. He said, “Then write one scene at a time.” That has stuck with me all these years and has been invaluable to me.

What genres do you write in, and what appeals to you about those genres?

AD: Suspense and Paranormal mostly. I love heart pounding action and tension. Not knowing what will happen next. I love being scared. I love magic and paranormal worlds. I love the way you can stretch believability and create anything your imagination can conjure.

What other titles do you have published?

AD: Cupid’s Beau Valentine’s Day Romance – What happens when a Cupid falls in love with her target?

Hearts, Hearths, and HolidaysA Christmas Romance Anthology with 6 other authors – Blue Christmas by Alicia Dean: When heartbreak derails a bride-to-be’s holiday cheer, will a sexy, self-proclaimed Grinch restore her Christmas spirit…and her faith in love?

Lady in the Mist  (w/a Winter Frost) – Gothic Mystery Romance – When a young woman takes a job in a remote coastal town, she soon becomes embroiled in a mystery, and in the lives of two enigmatic brothers.

Thicker than Water (Tales of the Scrimshaw Doll) – Romantic Suspense – Shortly after a woman returns to her home town—and the man who broke her heart—for a high school friend’s funeral, another member of their group is murdered. Are the deaths related to an ancient, cursed doll, or is someone out for revenge?

Soul SeducerParanormal Romance – A nurse’s near death experience connects her to the world of Grim Reapers, endangering her loved ones and shaking up everything she’s ever believed about love.

Death Notice (The Northland Crime Chronicles, Book 1) – Suspense with Romantic Elements – A newspaper columnist discovers a typo in an obituary that turns out to be killer’s demented idea of a game, where the players end up dead.

Death Offerings (The Northland Crime Chronicles, Book 2) – Suspense with Romantic Elements – A crime reporter searching for the truth about the long ago murder of her childhood friend catches the attention of a psychopathic killer.

A Knight Before Christmas (The Three Kings, Book 2) Contemporary Romance with Suspense Elements – A prodigal son’s trip home for Christmas leads to the discovery of startling family secrets, someone in need of his protection, and the realization that he never stopped loving his best friend’s widow.

Heart of the Witch – Paranormal Romance – A beautiful young witch with a secret escapes the clutches of a serial killer who fears her, yet is determined to silence her forever.

Truly MadlyRomantic Suspense – Haunted by her family’s tragic legacy, an artist moves back to her home town to settle her parents’ estate, only to learn that someone is out to frame her for murder.

Poetic InjusticeRomantic Suspense – An ambitious detective investigating the murder of a high profile celebrity judge is distracted by the sexy, bad boy ME, who is exactly the kind of man she’s sworn to avoid like the plague.

Tears of the WoundedRomantic Suspense – A madman bent on revenge puts a diabolical plan in motion where a man’s races against the clock to save his daughter could mean death for the woman he loves.

Nothing to FearRomantic Suspense –  A frightened wife flees her psychotic husband and enters the witness protection program, but when an undercover cop out to avenge his partner’s murder tracks her down, she discovers her new location—even with her new identity—isn’t the safe haven she’d hoped for.

What are you working on now?

AD: A sequel to Liberty Awakened

Can you describe your daily writing routine?

AD: It’s not ‘daily.’ It’s more ‘as I can.’ I don’t really have a routine, other than trying to grab as many hours of quiet time as I can.

I can relate to that. Are you a plotter or a pantser?

AD: Plotter for sure. Not a graph/chart/extensive outline plotter, but I need a synopsis and scene notes before I can really dig into a story.

What genres do you enjoy reading?

AD: Many genres, nearly all, but mostly Thriller, Suspense, Mystery, Paranormal, Romance

What author(s) have influenced your writing style?

AD: I don’t think any have influenced my ‘style,’ that’s pretty much just me. Although I wish I could emulate some of my favorites…Dennis Lehane, Michael Connelly, Sharon Sala, Lisa Gardner, Stephen King, Heather Graham.

Where do your best ideas come from?

AD: They just…appear. I usually think of a particular type of book I’d like to write and just relax and let scenarios run through my mind. Most of the time, the ideas start with me asking, What if… (As in, what if a Grim Reaper was a romance hero? Or, what if a Cupid fell in love. Or, what if a descendant of Van Helsing discovered she was a vampire hunter on a tropical island?)

What is your favorite book that you’ve read?

AD: I can’t say that there is a definite favorite. Gone with the Wind is up there. Sweet Savage Love. A Drink Before the War. The Concrete Blonde.

Who is your favorite character from any of the books you’ve read?

AD: Scarlett O’Hara (If I HAVE to choose)

What writing/writer’s organizations are you involved with? Can you explain how they help your writing and/or your writing career?

AD: RWA and OKRWA and HERA. They offer support and encouragement and give guidance and answer questions and help brainstorm. Also, helping other writers helps me grow as a writer, and these groups have given me the opportunity to do that.

Do you belong to a critique group or have critique partners? If so, what have you learned from them? How has it affected your writing?

AD: I belong to an amazing critique group, Okie Penpals. It has affected my writing in SO many ways. My group is wonderful about catching my errors and inconsistencies, and telling me when my stuff sucks. I have made some fairly significant changes in my stories based on suggestions from my critique group. They are also fabulous at brainstorming. I could not have written the stories I’ve written without their help.  Another great thing is that we meet every two weeks, and that’s somewhat of a ‘deadline’ for me. I am determined to have something to submit before each meeting, so they help me reach my goals.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to aspiring authors?

AD: Keep writing. Don’t give up. If you’re a writer, you write. Period. It’s in your blood. Even if you get negative feedback, hang in there and continue to hone your skills and practice. Don’t believe everything people tell you about your writing, but be open to constructive criticism and at least consider suggestions to see if they work for you. (Okay, more than ‘one’ piece of advice, but it’s all good stuff, I promise, LOL)

Interview with Sabrina Sol, author of Reunited #1NightStand #romance #giveaway @DecadentPub @theromancechica

Blog Tour for Reunited by Sabrina Sol

Welcome, Sabrina! It’s always a pleasure to have another Decadent author here. Can you tell us about your new release?

SS: Basically, it’s about second chances and turning a fantasy into a reality. But here’s the official blurb to give you a better idea about REUNITED:

What would you do if you had the chance to sleep with your unrequited high school crush?

If you’re former geek Magdelena Cruz, you’d do him in a heartbeat. But you’d lie about your true identity first and hope your new sexy persona is enough to create a night neither of you will forget. Workaholic assistant DA Will Hudson doesn’t have time for a love life. Expecting to scratch an itch with a willing stranger, he signs up for Madame Evangeline’s 1Night Stand experience. He has no idea that his date is no stranger. A reunion between two classmates will be hotter than the scorching Las Vegas sun. But will the heat be enough to spark something deeper, or will they both end up getting burned by Magdelena’s charade?

Sounds like another great 1Night Stand story! Describe the heroine in three words.

SS: Smart. Independent. Latina.

What traits does the hero posses that makes the heroine swoon?

SS: Will is gorgeous, of course. But he also has a warm and kind heart and is dedicated to helping others.

I’d swoon, too. What was your inspiration for this story?

SS: The main inspiration for the story is the movie 16 Candles. At the end of the movie, the heroine’s birthday wish comes true when her high school crush finally notices her. In REUNITED, my heroine Magdelena decides to take matters into her own hands and orchestrates a 1Night Stand with her crush from high school. The only problem is, she thinks she needs to hide her true identity in order for Will to want her.

How long have you been writing with the hopes of publication?

SS: Although I’ve always dreamt of becoming a published author, I didn’t really do anything about it until two years ago. That’s when I started taking online writing workshops and actually began writing the novel that had been stirring in my head for some time.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

SS: I’m both. I start off as a pantser. A story idea will stick in my head and I can start writing with just a basic plot line, character names and an ending. But then I have to turn into a plotter in order to fill in the guts of the story and connect the dots.

What genres do you enjoy reading?

SS: I enjoy reading erotic and contemporary romance, chick lit and crime/suspense (in case you were wondering, I used to be a crime and courts reporter for a local newspaper).

What writing/writer’s organizations are you involved with? Can you explain how they help your writing and/or your writing career?

SS: The first group I joined, at the suggestion of my author friend Louisa Bacio, was Savvy Authors (www.savvyauthors.com). I took some amazing workshops that first year and it really helped me focus on my writing. The classes and writing challenges pushed me to write almost every day just so I could get words on a page. It didn’t matter if they were brilliant or ridiculous, all that mattered was that I was writing. And even though I was far from being published, I still felt like an author because I was around other authors. Heck, I even had a half-finished novel under my belt. And for the first time in my life, my dream seemed like it was within reach.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to aspiring authors?

SS: Write as often as you can and get your work out there. Whether it’s getting published in a free anthology or simply posting original stories on your blog, it’s important to start building connections with readers and other authors before your first book is even sold.

Great advice! Where can my readers find you?

Thank you for stopping by, Sabrina! Here’s an excerpt from Reunited:

Reunited by Sabrina SolStanding in front of the door to the suite, she let the magnitude of the moment sink in. All logic and practicality fled. She’d left both back at home with her pocket protector and sensible shoes. The situation called for her to be impulsive, daring and confident.

If you are, then he will finally be yours….

She smoothed her dress, adjusted her bra, and blew into her hand for a breath check. Satisfied, she slid her key card into the slot and pushed the door open.

A blaring TV welcomed her. Not that she expected a violin serenade, but she hadn’t planned on competing with a basketball game for her date’s attention. She frowned.

“Pass the ball, you idiot!” Will shouted.

Tingling from head to toe at the sound of his voice, she released a slow breath.

It’s now or never, Magdelena.

“Hello?” she called.

The TV turned off instantly. A second later, he walked into her view.

Her throat tightened.

The years had been good to him. No, they’d been great to him. Although she’d seen pictures on the alumni website, they didn’t do him justice. Every visible inch of his body appeared chiseled from stone. A dark gray shirt and black slacks perfectly accentuated every muscle. He wore his dark hair shorter than she’d seen in the photos, but his blue eyes were more piercing than ever. He looked her over, settling on her cleavage and her nipples that had come to attention the minute she saw him. Then he raised his eyes to meet hers.

“Hello, Elena.” His deep voice lit her soul on fire.

He doesn’t recognize me. This plan might work after all.

Take a Western Escape with Cassandra Dean’s Fool’s Gold & enter to WIN!

Fool's Gold by Cassandra DeanWelcome back, Cassandra! It’s always a pleasure to have you here. :) Can you tell us about your new release?

CD: Certainly! FOOL’S GOLD is the second in The Diamond Series and part of Decadent Publishing’s Western Escape. It’s set in the frontier town of Freewill, Wyoming, in 1879 and concerns the Diamond Saloon and Theater.

Pearl la Monte is manager of the Diamond, as well as star of its theater. However, on a cold Christmas Eve with a blizzard blowing in, the Diamond is empty of people and all Pearl wants to curl up in a warm bed. A pounding at the Diamond’s door spoils her plans, and when she discovers it’s that fool, Ethan Garrett, at the Diamond’s door, she’s not best pleased.

Then, the blizzard blows in, trapping them both and they discover their ire for the other disguises something more passionate…

What was your inspiration for this story?

CD: ROUGH DIAMOND, book 1 in The Diamond Series, had been completed and I had a vague idea for a shorter story featuring two secondary characters, Pearl la Monte and Ethan Garrett. Then, my editor asked me if we would be getting Pearl and Ethan’s story, could I pretty please write their tale…and the rest is history!

Teach Me by Cassandra DeanWhat genres do you write in, and what appeals to you about those genres?

CD: I predominately write historicals, but it seems I like to jump around! I’ve an Ancient Roman erotic romance (ENSLAVED), an Early Victorian erotic romance (TEACH ME), two Old West erotic romances (ROUGH DIAMOND and FOOL’S GOLD) and an upcoming Early Victorian romance (SILK & SCANDAL, book 1 of The Silk Series). I’ve also writing short stories for anthologies that are contemporary.

My ultimate love is historicals, however. Something about the past appeals greatly to me, albeit my view is through rose-coloured glasses. I do have plans to write a Steampunk series, and I’d love to write High Fantasy one day!

I’ve read Teach Me, and it’s fabulous! What are you working on now?

CD: Edits for SILK & SCANDAL, as well as a few other story ideas. Oh, and SILK & SCORN, next in The Silk Series :)

What author(s) have influenced your writing style?

CD: Loretta Chase is just the bestest. She writes such fearsomely strong, no-nonsense heroines, and such wonderfully masculine yet vulnerable heroes.

I’m also a massive fan of Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and director of The Avengers. Listening to the commentaries on his movies and TV shows have taught me so much and I highly recommend people check them out if they’re interested in the craft of writing.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to aspiring authors?

CD: Persevere. It’s so tough to get knocked back, time and again. I had umpteen million rejections before I finally got my first contract. It was really hard to get back on the horse, to submit again when you were sure they were going to reject you. But it’s the only way, and so I persevered.

Now, I have four books published, two short stories, another book on the way and another short story in the works. I have two ongoing series, and plans for another. All because I persevered. Yay!

Great advice! Where can my readers find you?

Fool's Gold by Cassandra DeanFool’s Gold:

Christmas in Freewill

Christmas Eve, the Diamond Saloon is empty of its people, and Pearl la Monte has a hankering to retire early. A pounding at the Diamond’s door rids her of such a fool notion. Her irritation rises when she sees the prissy, polite-like Garrett standing outside.

Ethan Garrett has a powerful need to gain succor. When the saloon’s voluptuous redheaded singer scowls at him from the threshold of the Diamond, he doesn’t stop to think on how his ire at her has disappeared. Or how he just wants to spend some time in her company.

When a blizzard storms in, trapping them, will they spend their time arguing or find their irritation for each other disguises something more?

Excerpt:

Turning on her heel, Pearl marched off toward the stairs.

A weird kind of panic jolted through Ethan, one he’d never felt before in all his days. It was…he didn’t…. She couldn’t leave him. “Where are you going?”

She whirled to face him, her irritation plain. “I was seeking my bed before your arrival, and now I’m seeking it again. Help yourself to whiskey this one time. I got better things to do.”

Shoving to his feet, he strode to her. “Don’t just walk away when we’re discussing things.”

“We ain’t discussing nothing. You’ll be down here, waiting out the blizzard. I’ll be in my bed, doing what I was gonna before you arrived. That’s the end of it.”

Taking a step, she made to leave him. Again.

He grabbed her arm. “Don’t leave me.”

“Don’t tell me what to do.” Glaring at him, she stood before the bar, her magnificent hair slipping from its pins, her breasts rising and falling.

Abruptly, his mouth went dry. Clearing his throat some, he said, “You’re supposed to offer succor to those in need.”

“We’re closed, remember?” Paint-less lips pressed tight together, she glared up at him.

They were so close he could see the faint marks of freckles on her skin.

Pearl La Monte had freckles.

A kind of haze came over him, tightening his skin and bringing with it something all-fired powerful and completely unstoppable. All the years he’d known her crashed through him, all the times she’d flirted with him and meant something else, all the times he’d seen her perform on stage and wished he could have held such fire.

Grabbing her upper arms, he hauled her against him and, ignoring her shocked gasp, he covered her mouth with his.

Author Bio:

Cassandra grew up daydreaming, inventing fantastical worlds and marvelous adventures. Once she learned to read (First phrase – To the Beach. True story), she was never without a book, reading of other people’s fantastical worlds and marvelous adventures.

Book Spotlight: Tiger Time by Marissa Dobson

Tiger Time by Marissa DobsonTiger Time by Marissa Dobson:

Tabitha Leigh has no idea her life is about to change. Until now, she’s been living a quiet life, unaware danger stalks her.

Ty Reynolds has been watching Tabitha from a distance to see if she would go through “the change.” When she finally does, he sees more in her than just the future of their kind. Now that she is embracing her were-tiger, he must tell her she is the Queen of the Tiger . . . with a bounty on her head.

Tabitha must be protected at all cost. She has to embrace her future and her mate or it will be the end of everything she’s just come to know and hadn’t realized she needed.

Print ~ Kindle ~ NookSmashwords ~ All Romance Ebooks

Excerpt:

Tabitha screamed and jumped up quickly when she felt the solid body against hers. “Who the hell are you?”

“Don’t scream, Tabitha. You didn’t meet me tonight. I wanted to make sure you were all right. When I arrived, there was blood in the hall, your door was open, and I came in. There was more blood in your apartment. I called the hospitals, and they had no listings under your name, so I stayed here to see if you would return.”

While he spoke, she noticed his body. He must have been two hundred and twenty pounds, all of it muscle. He had arms the size of her waist. He reminded her of one of the biker guys who came into the restaurant. His chin-length black hair and broad shoulders gave him a menacing look. The only thing that hinted he might have a softer side was his spectacular, ocean blue eyes. His hair, brushing against the collar of his shirt, made her want to run her hands through it to see if it was as soft as it looked. But not right now.

“Back up. How do you know my name?”

“Didn’t you get the note I left on your door yesterday? My name is Ty Reynolds. I was a friend of your father’s.” He sat there on the couch watching her, careful not to move as if worried he’d scare her.

Shock must have shown on her face, because before she could say anything, he added, “I’m not here to hurt you. If I wanted to hurt you, I would have done so already. I made a promise to your father that when you were old enough, I would tell you everything, and I would do everything I could to protect you.”

My caseworker must have had the information wrong. If this man was a friend of dad’s, then he had to be a murder or into some deep shit. At this moment in time, however, she didn’t care. “I don’t care who you are. I want you out of my apartment!” She walked over to her door and opened it. “Please leave.”

“Listen, Tabitha, I know you’re scared, but you need to listen to me. Please just give me ten minutes.”

“You broke into my apartment and now you want me to listen to you? I don’t want anything to do with you.”

#HumpDayHook – January 30 – from Made For Her #scifirom

Hump Day HookGood day! Here’s a taste of Made For Her, an erotic science fiction romance.

Made For Her by Jessica E. Subject

blurb & buy links

“In 2084, as you know, Earth made first contact with the Rafkels, a peaceful species living on the planet Raf, located twenty light-years from Earth.” She pressed the button to show her spectators an image of the still-foreign planet. “While meeting this species remains years away, their message warned us of other intelligent life forms in our own galaxy.” Mikayla rolled her eyes. The actual message had not been a warning, rather a fact, but the government insisted on changing the wording to garner more recruits and support for cloning. “Since then, world governments have combined efforts to develop a spacecraft that will take us faster and farther into space.”
