Hump Day Hook – A sneak peek at Another Night, Another Planet #HDH #1NightStand #sfrb

Hump Day HookHello everyone! I took last week off, but I’m back with a sneak peek at Another Night, Another Planet, an erotic sci-fi romance, which is set to release June 14, 2013.

Another Night, Another Planet, an erotic sci-fi romance by Jessica E. Subject

Here’s an excerpt from the beginning of the story:

Ava hit send on her application to the 1Night Stand dating service. No time to wait for a reply. She shoved her tablet computer into her carry-on, slung the bag over her shoulder, and rushed out the door. With the Star Spirit scheduled to leave Earth in two hours, she had to zip through town to clock in before liftoff. She hoped Madame Eve would find her perfect match during her six-month tour. Sure, she’d met many men in her travels between the Milky Way and the Belvarian System. But most looked down their noses or other appendages at the woman who cleaned their room. Those who showed an interest wanted a quick fuck before sending her away with their trash and dirty sheets.

More Information here

Be sure to visit the Hump Day Hook blog to see who else is participating this week!

Why Did I Go Indie? Guest blog by @ZeeMonodee #ebook #selfpublishing #pararom

Good day!! It gives me great pleasure to welcome one of my critique partners, and a good friend, to my blog today. She’s talking about why she decided to go indie with her most recent release co-authored with Natalie G. Owens, INESCAPABLE.

We’re doing a blog swap, so when you’re done here, be sure to pop over to Zee’s blog for the next stop on the ALIEN ADORATION tour, and to find out why I went indie.

Take it away, Zee! :)

Monodee, Zee

Hey everyone! Pleasure to be here today. Jessica is guesting on my blog, and the lovely person she is offered to host me in return. This also happened because this month, we’re both talking of the same topic – self-publishing.

My bestie (that’s UK slang for best friend, lol) is named Natalie G. Owens and she and I are like identical twins separated at birth (okay, soul and mind-wise. She’s a white Catholic girl from Malta; I’m an Indian-origin Muslim from the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean). Oceans and years separate us, yet it’s amazing how much we think alike, how we conceive of life and career and success under the same strokes. She’s an author, too, so is it a wonder one day we started talking about collaborating on something?

Inescapable by Zee Monodee & Natalie G. OwensFast forward 1.5 years later, and our first collab book is out. Inescapable is Book 1 of the Eternelles series, focusing on the trials and tribulations of a mother-daughter pair. But our slant is that these two women are immortals, share no blood yet bond like family, and it seems like they are at the heart of a conspiracy that can either release Evil that has been locked behind a portal…or unleash the Apocalypse in the process.

Natalie writes horror really well, with a dark vibe and oftentimes, a Gothic slant. I, on the other hand, am a happy-go-lucky girlie girl who loves her light romances. I do, however, have an addiction to the show Supernatural… Put these two together, and you get Eternelles.

But the real question is – why did we go indie? Natalie is indie-pubbed, but I hadn’t crossed that line yet, and was very happy with my main publisher, Decadent Publishing.

The real reason is the utter scope of the Eternelles series that we uncovered once we started plotting. For one thing, we knew this would be an ongoing series. And plot bunny kept calling to plot bunny and before we knew it, we’d ended up with a tentative lineup of 24 books! We’ve whittled it down to 15 now, but the sheer scope of this project? Not for the faint of heart.

So here we were with a series that has the following characteristics:

- Ongoing lineup of 10+ books – in this day and age, we couldn’t wait by idle for a publisher to take a bet on us and grab our whole, 15-book series. No, we’re not JK Rowlings…

Arranged in an innovative manner that mimics TV show seasons (we spanned the main story arc over the whole series, but broke it down to smaller arcs for each 3-book season. Exactly like on a TV show, a season takes you through one plot while overarching the series’ arc. Just look at Supernatural, and you’ll know what I mean!)

- Both of us pretty much ‘unknown’ names at the time – so if we’d have to do all the work of getting ourselves out there, then why not go indie? In for a penny; in for a pound, right? What did we have to lose? (Yes, we’re both somewhat reckless souls…)

- Collaborative work – Nat and I each wrote a POV from the duo that make up the main protagonists in this series. Collab work, even today, is not often heard of. Few pubs take a risk on one author, let alone two. We needed to do this together or not at all, so guess what the compromise turned out to be? *grin*

- A mashup of genres and myths – Adri, the heroine I wrote, is the daughter of Dionysos, god of wine and revelry, and grew up on Olympus under the care of Zeus. Sera, her daughter (written by Natalie) has gypsy and phoenix origins. Then there is the town of Shadow Bridge, which is the main stage for this series. All sups you can imagine – vamps, weres, fae, witches, & more – live in that town. We also have a spin on the original vampire myth. To reduce Eternelles to merely “Paranormal romance with fantasy elements” didn’t seem right, and good luck trying to hook an agent or a publisher with a mashup of genres!

- Control! – Both of us know exactly what we want from Eternelles, and we have our vision for where the characters and the series are going. No “production team” was gonna come in and tell us to change our setup (for example, throw in more sex! True Blood lost me as a fan for that very reason!). We wanted to showcase to the world Eternelles as we conceived of it, and indie was the perfect route for that.

It’s been a couple of weeks since Inescapable came out, and we’re still finding our footing with indie publishing. But do we regret our decision? Not at all! What’s better than getting to have fun with your soul sister? That’s exactly what Eternelles is to Natalie and me!

And here’s a little more about the book:

INESCAPABLE (Book 1 of the Eternelles series)

Authors: Natalie G. Owens & Zee Monodee

Inescapable by Zee Monodee & Natalie G. Owens

An immortal born from an unlikely alliance…

Beautiful mythic Greek heiress Adrasteia ‘Adri’ Dionysios has roamed the world for millennia, taking her pleasure where she wanted. Until one night, when Fate drops a baby wrapped in fire into her arms. Motherhood is a formidable challenge, but so is figuring out the identity of a mystery man who makes her pulse race.

A vampyre’s obsession…

Seraphine ‘Sera’ Dionysios’ origins are shrouded in mystery. Torn between a mother whose blood saved her life, and a man who now possesses her soul, the only thing Sera can still cling to is her heart.

One rule matters above all others: Always protect the portal…

When Evil comes to Adri and Sera’s hometown of Shadow Bridge, a place where the mortal human world ends and the supernatural realm starts, it’s up to them to stop a prophecy as old as time itself…or die trying.

INESCAPABLE Goodreads page.

Wet And Wild Bloghop! May 20-25 #giveaway #1NightStand #wildhop

Wet and Wild Hop

Hello everyone! Thank you for coming to visit me during the Wet And Wild Bloghop! Thank you so much to Skye Warren for organizing another wonderful hop!

Keep reading to find out how to enter my giveaway

as well as the Grand Prize giveaway!

Right now, I’m getting ready for two new releases at Decadent Publishing.

One of them is Another Night, Another Planet, an erotic sci-fi romance

that is part of both the 1Night Stand and Elatia lines and will release on June 14.

Here’s a sneak peak at my upcoming release:

Another Night, Another Planet, an erotic sci-fi romance by Jessica E. Subject

Limited by status…

Ava is a housekeeper aboard Star Spirit, a luxury cruise ship travelling between the Milky Way and the Belvarian System. Coming from a middle-class family on Earth, she is considered by passengers as nothing more than an object to be tossed away when they’re done with her.

Shunned because of his lineage…

Banned from several planets across the universe, Nate struggles to run his interstellar shipping business. But the DNA of an exterminated race runs through his blood, giving him a diluted form of their powers, and leaving him labeled as a terrorist.

Both searching for the one…

Through her 1Night Stand dating service, Madame Evangeline matches these two together for a celestial escape on the pleasure planet, Elatia.

Will Ava and Nate find what they’re looking for, or will their date be just another night on another planet?

And an excerpt:

“Run, Nate, run!”

Natazekiel, well aware of the stupid remark he’d made, bounded out of the pub behind his friend. As he rushed past, he toppled tables and chairs on their sides to slow his pursuers. Slamming into the doorframe, he lost his footing. He spun around, catching sight of the burly, blue-skinned Otarians lumbering after him, veins throbbing in their thick necks.

Regaining his balance, he scrambled down the street. He spotted Wyn ahead of him, rounding a corner. But the men he’d pissed off remained on his heels. If he followed his friend, they would chase him, too. If Wyn reached their star cruiser first, Nate hoped he would find a way to rescue him.

A beam of red light slammed into the road in front of him, blasting chunks of concrete all around him. Shit!

He faked to the right, pretending to follow his friend. Then he weaved left. The cursing from behind made him pause, but he valued his life too much—even if no one else did—to turn around.

Ornate stone pillars decorated the front of the tall, posh building ahead of him. An Otarian man stepped out of the entrance, and Nate raced to catch the door before it slammed shut. Inside, he glanced down the long hallway—lit by lavish sconces—at the multitude of doors lining either side. Would he find a way out behind any of them?

With his heart pounding, he grabbed each large brass-colored handle as he rushed by. None of the doors opened for him.

“There he is. Shoot him!”

Nate glanced back to see multiple laser guns aimed at him. Crap, he needed to escape. Fast. He slammed his shoulder into the next door. It flew open, revealing a luxurious suite full of silks and tapestries from the planet Earth. Not a suite he would ever receive an invitation to visit. He darted into a smaller room, finding a slender Otarian woman, naked save for a thin strip of cloth across her breasts and between her legs.

She drew a finger along her delectable blue curves. “Are you my date?”

“Date?” How he wished.

“Yes, did Madame Eve send you?”

For a second, he considered saying yes. Too much time had passed since he’d gotten laid. But with the barbarians after him, he wouldn’t have the chance to satisfy her the way any honorable man should. “Um, no. He’s a lucky man, though. Sorry to intrude.”

He sidestepped to the lofty window, yanking it up. Propping himself on the ledge, he somersaulted through the opening then, dropping farther than he’d expected, crashed to the ground. He didn’t have time to survey his injuries, as a beam blasted the frame above him, sprinkling bits of mortar on his head. Poor woman to have those brutes in her room.

Jumping to his feet, he glanced back and forth down the alley he’d landed in. He raced away from the busy street at one end into darker, unfamiliar territory. Best not to have his pursuers blast innocent bystanders.

Back List Blast – Accidental Romance by Jessica E. Subject, #western #romance #NAlit

Back List Blast

Hello and welcome to another Back List Blast! Today I present to you the twelfth and last book in my back list, Accidental Romance. (Starting in June, I’m going to be revealing more about the characters.) This story is a contemporary new adult western romance, which released from Decadent Publishing as part of The Challenge series on January 15, 2013, and is a bestseller at All Romance eBooks.

Accidental Romance - a New Adult Romance by Jessica E. SubjectI used my own experiences living out in the country, plus stories told by my husband and friends of ours to come up with the idea for this story. Plus, I needed to do a lot of research needed about dairy farms, milking cows, and amputations.

Here’s an excerpt:

Grasping the railings of the bed, she tried to pull herself up. Blinding pain shot up her arm. She cried out. Fuck! She would never get used to having only one hand. She could live without a finger, an ear, but a whole hand? Life as she knew it was over. Everything had changed.

A nurse rushed into her room. “Are you okay, Leanne? What do you need?”

She winced as she held up her arm, the pain beginning to dull. “I forgot.”

“Yes, that will happen. I’m Tory, and I’ll be here for the next few days.” She examined her bandages. “Looks like we’re going to need to change these. Have you gone to the washroom yet?”

Leanne shook her head, suddenly aware of her full bladder.

“Well, let’s take you there first, and then I’ll change your dressings.”

Supporting the elbow of her damaged arm, the nurse helped her off the bed and rolled the steel pole with all the bags behind her.

Once in the bathroom, Leanne inched down her underwear and easily sat on the toilet, with only a hospital gown to hold to the side. Business done, she reached for the toilet paper. Shit! Wrong hand.

With her left, she yanked on the tissue, hoping to roll off enough to do the job. But the paper didn’t stop. It just kept coming, falling in heaps to the floor. Tory reached over and tore a length for her, spinning the rest back up.

Leanne burst into tears, burying her face in the crook of her arm. “I’ll never get used to this.”

“It’ll take some time,” her nurse said. “And when everything is healed, you can have a prosthetic arm made, if you want. It won’t be quite the same, but pretty close.”

Prosthesis? She hadn’t thought past getting out of the hospital, still coming to terms with her missing limb. As long as she wasn’t given a hook. She would more likely hurt herself with it than find it useful. She’d get the thing caught in her hair trying to put in a braid.

She finished on the toilet and, pulling up her drawers, gave herself a wedgie. With a little yanking and shifting, she had the material back in place and stepped over to the sink. Washing her hand. This should be easy. She turned on the faucet, squirted on some soap, and then stood there, trying to figure out how to rub the soap in. Tory leaned over the sink and scrubbed her hand, reminding her of when she was a kid and her mother helped to wash up.
