Interview with @CateMasters, author of CURSED #paranormal #romance #DPTease
Hello everyone! It’s such a pleasure to have fellow Decadent Publishing author, Cate Masters on my blog today. Hi Cate! Tell us about your new release.
CM: I am incredibly psyched for this release! Cursed is the first of The Vitruvian Man series, a dark paranormal with elements of magic, science and a twist on history. Decadent invited me to write for its new Tease line, and I’m so excited that Cursed launched the line on April 24! You can watch the book video at http://youtu.be/Zwp1Xdg0Dd8
Describe the heroine from Cursed in three words.
CM: Geeky. Daring. Innocent.
What traits does the hero possess that makes the heroine swoon?
CM: Bruno’s a very complex alpha male. Cultured, brilliant, tortured hero with secrets. He doesn’t know he’s ready to share them until he meets Melina!
What was your inspiration for this story?
CM: A couple of very different news articles meshed together in a strange and wonderful way. The first was my introduction to Carnevale, the 10-day festival in Venice; the second detailed the finding of a sketch of The Vitruvian Man that predated Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic man-within-a-circle illustration. Finally, another about the study of the hormone oxytocin, also called “the love drug” (seriously!). From that, Cursed had its setting, its hero and heroine’s occupation.
Amazing how many influences can transform into a story! Who is your favorite character from this book?
CM: I’m so terrible at choosing favorites! All my characters are like dear, dear friends. Hm, let’s see… Bruno’s a very complex and tortured hero, and I still find him very intriguing, so I’ll go with him. *grins*
Here’s a peek at the opener:
La Serenissima. Venice. The promise of a touch, a caress, however brief, is what drew me to the surface each year for Carnevale. Anonymous as the others in my costume and full-face mask, I drank in the sweet, fresh air as I made my way through the streets. They’d donned their elaborate costumes for merrymaking. Necessity forced me to hide in mine.
An earlier light rain had left a sheen on the square, reflecting the golden lights hung above the archways lining one side. Revelers traveled in pairs or groups, more sparsely than I’d expected, though it was only the first night. Excitement tinged the air and filled me with anticipation.
Arms linked, three women weaved toward me. I tensed at their laughter and murmurings, but slowed despite myself. In the gathering dusk, their beauty struck me. Underground, the nondescript hues dulled my senses, but the explosion of colors during the festival nearly overwhelmed me. I knew the city well, but like every year, it took me many minutes to orient myself. To school my muscles to stop from running out of sheer giddiness. Freedom was such a heady thing.
I took a moment to reel in my senses. I inhaled a deep breath and allowed myself a long look at each of the three. Their gowns cut low across their breasts invited such attention. The beast in me had already awakened and would soon demand satisfaction if I kept it waiting. It had been much too long.
Catching my stare, the lady nearest me smirked below her gilded eye mask. With a bow, I touched the rim of my tricorn hat. Her stroll became an exaggerated saunter, and her smile grew more predatory than teasing. She dipped in a low curtsy. The other two laughed and tugged her. Heel slipping on the wet stone, she yelped, soft and helpless as a kitten, a sound that aroused my male protectiveness, along with something much less benign.
Very intriguing! What other titles do you have published?

Wow, that’s quite the list. What are you working on now?
CM: I’m in the middle of the third story of The Vitruvian Man series now. This world just kept calling to me! I have about a dozen WIPs, but have been focusing on two contemporaries and two paranormals.
And I’m super excited there are more Decadent releases coming soon! Three more 1NS stories – Sweet Revenge, The Ex Factor and Cinderella Dreams. Plus a historical romance, Betting It All, and Charmed, the second book in The Vitruvian Man series. It’s going to be a crazy busy year.
For sure! What genres do you enjoy reading?
CM: Any and all, lol. Honestly, I will read any story that grabs me. I just love a well-written story with a compelling plot and engaging, relatable characters.
Do you belong to a critique group or have critique partners? If so, what have you learned from them? How has it affected your writing?
CM: I couldn’t write without my crit partners! Or at least, not very well. *grins* I’ve been with my core group of crit partners for about ten years. They’re extremely craft-focused, which I love because they’re always pushing me – and themselves – to the next level. I love all my crit partners for their honesty, toughness and encouragement. They are the best!
Is there anything else my readers should know about you?
CM: I’m a bookaholic. I absolutely love books, and buy way more than I can ever read. I’m somewhat shy but also pretty goofy, which my grandboys appreciate, lol. I have a terrible singing voice but it doesn’t stop me from belting out tunes I love, haha. And I love that my grandboys are picking up the habit – at age 4, 3, and almost 2, we sing the theme songs from Disney/Pixar movies together. Well, sometimes they ad lib the lyrics, but give them about ten years and they’ll be breaking some hearts. It absolutely kills me to hear my 3-year-old grandboy sing, “Baby you’re a firework.” Of the three, he’s the most likely to break into song at any given time, lol.
All those books are research. Or, that’s my excuse. LOL Where can my readers find you?

Interview with Clare Dargin, author of Cold Warriors #scifi #romance #scifirom #sfrb
Please welcome fellow Decadent Publishing and science fiction romance author, Clare Dargin to the blog!
CD: Hi Jessica! It’s a great to be here!
Tell us about your new release.
CD: My pleasure! Its called Cold Warriors.
Here’s a blurb- Left in cryogenic stasis for nearly a century, Caitlin Driskoll is awakened and drafted into a war she knows nothing about. Expected to defend a world where her kind is despised and expendable, she discovers love and respect from the one man who can’t be associated with her.
Lieutenant Colonel Medoro Keegan has spent a lifetime in the Marines. With no family to speak of, the Corps and his ship, the USS Blanchard, are all the loved ones he needs…until Caitlin sparks a fire within, that threatens to consume him if he doesn’t walk away.
Will he choose a life of certainty in the only world he knows or give it all to Caitlin and run the risk of losing someone, yet again?
Cryogenics fascinates me! Describe the heroine, Caitlin, in three words.
CD: Determined, Vulnerable and Loving
What traits does the hero, Keegan, posses that make Caitlin swoon?
CD: He’s strong, courageous, fair and has a weak spot for her.
Oh, that dreaded weak spot. LOL What was your inspiration for this story?
CD: The Antarctic journey of Robert Falcon Scott. One day I was watching a Nova episode and I was fascinated and moved by the heart and the tragic struggle of their journey. And I thought, what if that was a woman and not a man? The story kind of grew from that…
Who is your favorite character from this book? Can you include an excerpt involving this character?
CD: To be honest, it’s the Colonel Keegan. He is so hot! And so tortured and mixed up! I think this scene really is indicative of his feelings for Caitlin.
He didn’t know what to say. His first clash with her had distracted him to the point of madness. It had been some time since he’d had such a powerful encounter with a woman. The last one to push his buttons that hard, he wound up marrying.
Caitlin was stubborn, mouthy, somewhat insubordinate, and filled with an innate force he had not seen in sometime. She had no problem in standing up for who or what she believed in. He didn’t like the feelings she stirred in him. He dare not consider them. Especially with her. She was a subordinate and a cryo. It was against regulations for him to even think of starting anything with her.
He shifted his stance. His heart pounded in his ears and breaths quickened. “Ms. Driskoll. I don’t know what you expect from me.”
“Nothing more than I expect from myself.”
Before he knew it, he crossed the distance between them and swept her into a searing kiss. He caressed her body, touching every curve. Arousal sped through his body like lightening. He dug his fingers in her hair and hungrily dominated her mouth, his tongue delving in, playing with hers. Gripping her waist, he lifted her up and placed on her the table. She arched her neck exposing her creamy skin. He nipped and bit at it enjoying its smoothness. He reached up and caressed her breasts, a need filling him to see them, taste them.
He was ready to slip off into oblivion when he remembered himself. It was the middle of the day; they were in a briefing room and would be caught. Breaking off the kiss, he raised his hands in surrender.
“Jesus,” he said in between breaths.
“What?” she panted, as she straightened her uniform.
“Please leave. Just go.” He closed his eyes, wrestling his feelings into submission. Holding them down, he shuddered. Dear God, help me. He needed her so badly. His breathing slowed to a normal rate. When he opened his eyes, she was gone.
“Sir, you’re needed on the bridge,” the voice on the com said.
“Be right there,” he replied, grateful for the distraction.
Great excerpt! How long have you been writing with the hopes of publication?
CD: Ever since I could write!
How did you get started?
CD: The publication process? Oh my goodness. Well I tried publishing with small ‘zines in the 90’s and found it very hard to be accepted. They had hard stipulations for being published on top of buying a copy of their issue! Then after being rejected and sometimes insulted by every agent and editor under the sun, I stumbled upon a small press. I submitted and I was accepted! But they folded before I could be published. So emboldened with the hope that one of my stories was publishable, I expanded one of my short stories into a full length novel and submitted to an small indie press and not only did they accept it but they loved it! That novel was Cold Warriors. I have since revised and republished it with Decadent Publishing and they have been amazing to work with.
What genres do you write in, and what appeals to you about those genres?
CD: I write primarily in the areas of Science Fiction and Romance. Ever since Star Wars, I have been blown away by the ‘what if’ question. What if we lived in a world where space travel is common place? What if life existed on different planets and what could happened if we interacted?
As for Romance– I am sucker for romance. Let me put it this way, when I was a kid, I loved watching G.I. Joe on tv. While I thought the guys and the guns were cool, me and my best friends used two of our action figures to play out the implied romance between two of the characters “Mainframe and Zarana.” Yeah, kind of weird but it was the 80’s and I was young. I guess you had to be there to understand.
What other titles do you have published?
CD: Speculative Sky- Astronomer April Mullen is warned to stay away from the lights in the night sky. But what happens when her curiosity gets the best of her?
Zenward’s Magic- Hunted by a demon, Marius Zenward is on the run. Captivated by his mystery and torn by her desire, Corrigan Heilyn longs to be with him but Marius holds her at bay because of a horrible secret that follows him from town to town. Will the special magic that only he possesses set them free?
Fugue- Determined to safeguard the lives of his men, Lt. Chad Meyer, must use all of his courage, will and stamina to make sure that they survive against their non-human foe.
Kybernatia- Gabrielle Burle, project manager for the development of the planet Kybernatia, is forced out of her job under a veil of secrecy, when the planet undergoes a horrible accident.
Determined to find the truth, Gabrielle goes on a journey of discovery that leads to the one man with all the answers.
What are you working on now?
CD: I am presently editing a steamy erotic romance. I am sure your readers will be very pleased!
Me, too! Can you describe your daily writing routine?
CD: Staring at the computer. No really, I turn on my computer and put on some inspiring music and get to writing!
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
CD: Definitely a pantser. I tried being a plotter. Didn’t work.
What genres do you enjoy reading?
CD: Erotic Romances, Science Fiction and Romantic Suspense.
What author(s) have influenced your writing style?
CD: Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Their story telling is amazing! The way they craft the world in where there character’s live almost make me feel like I’m an expert right along with them.
Oh my gosh! I LOVE Preston and Child, both together and their separate titles! Where do your best ideas come from?
CD: Just depends. Watching people, documentaries, movies, tv.
What is your favorite book that you’ve read?
CD: Too hard to choose. Depends on the mood I’m in.
Who is your favorite character from any of the books you’ve read?
CD: Boris Zankoff in the Amoveo- Undenied.
What writing/writer’s organizations are you involved with? Can you explain how they help your writing and/or your writing career?
CD: I have been involved in several chapters of the RWA and a few local writing chapters as well. They really helped me hone my skill and network with other writers. Sometimes writing can be lonely!
Do you belong to a critique group or have critique partners? If so, what have you learned from them? How has it affected your writing?
CD: I have been involved with several critique groups. They really helped me to develop characterization and understand how to craft the romance in a romance novel.
What is the best piece of advice you would give to aspiring authors?
CD: Don’t be afraid to take constructive criticism. Never give up honing your skills. And just because someone says no, that doesn’t mean someone else won’t say yes.
Is there anything else my readers should know about you?
CD: I really love talking to my fans! I’m a fan girl myself!
Where can my readers find you?
CD: My blog | Facebook | Twitter
Where can my readers find your books?
CD: They are all available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, All Romance Ebooks and other retail outlets.
Jessica thanks for hosting me!
It is my pleasure! I hope you’ll come back and visit!

Hump Day Hook – Find out Luke’s secret in Alien Adoration #HDH #AlienNextDoor #scifi #romance
Hello! Here’s another excerpt from Alien Adoration, which is now available!
Yes, it’s early. I couldn’t wait.
Remember, in previous posts, Rachel had wondered where the romance was between her and her boyfriend. Then she’d been caught staring at her sexy neighbor. Here’s the first excerpt from Luke (her neighbor)’s point-of-view.
Luke rubbed the back of his neck. Rachel had seen him, glaring wide-eyed like she expected him to attack. Why did she keep her distance, never say hello? Did she remember him from years ago, or had she woken, disgusted with him because of the loud departure of another of the women he used to try and forget about her?
But he never could get her out of his head. From the moment he’d first met her, she’d implanted herself in his heart. She’d been so kind, so accepting. Now she stared at him from her bedroom, wouldn’t even talk to him. Over the years, she must have become afraid of him, of what he was. An alien.

NEW RELEASE – Alien Adoration & Last Day to Enter!
Hello everyone! I’m excited to announce that ALIEN ADORATION is now available. This is my first indie title. Though I did work with the same cover artist and editors as I do at Decadent Publishing. Here’s a bit about the story:
Erotic dreams fill her with need…
Night after night, Rachel fantasizes about her sexy, playboy neighbor. But in her small town, no one changes, least of all the bad boy next door. But when Luke rescues her not once but twice from disastrous dates, she dares to believe her knight in black leather armor may be the right man for her after all.
Until she learns the truth…
Life on Earth has never been easy for Luke. Stranded as a little boy, he struggled to craft an existence for himself, but he never forgot the first human he met–and he never stopped wanting to see her again. Returning to Hanton, Luke longs for Rachel. Yet nothing goes as he plans, and Rachel barely notices him. Convincing her he isn’t like all the jerks she’s dated means telling her the truth, but can she handle it?
Can she overcome her fears, or will she deny her alien adoration and leave him stranded once more?

Back List Blast – CRASH LANDING by Jessica E. Subject #scifi #erotica
Hello and welcome to the last Back List Blast post of April! Today I want to tell you about my ninth release, Crash Landing. This story is a science fiction erotica MMF menage, which released from Decadent Publishing as part of their The Edge line on September 28, 2012.
This story was inspired by a conversation with my editor, Kate Richards, where we were discussing the exact color of blue of the aliens in my stories. It contains MFM, MMF, and MM scenes.
Crash Landing is a bestseller at All Romance eBooks, and was nominated for Best Sci-Fi / Space Opera Ménage Romance in the 2013 Ménage Romances Fan’s Choice Awards.
Here’s an excerpt:
“Well, get over here and give her a try,” the man said. “Trust me, once you go Terran, you never go back.”
Even in his feeble state, Cael scampered toward the platform. He grasped Tara’s hips, but instead of shoving his dick deep into her, he leaned down for a taste. Lapping his tongue across her pink flesh, he relished the taste of her juices. Sweet, like the dimdom fruit back home. He sank deeper into her, anxious for more. She pushed her ass against his face and continued to suck off Mare.
His dick strained against the soft material draped over the love platform. He needed to experience the real sensation of fucking a woman rather than the bark of a plant. Rising to his feet, he ran his fingers across her wet heat. So warm and ready. Before he could enter her, the other man handed him a circle of latex. “Roll this on first. It’s protection.”
Protection? “From what?” Was her pussy filled with poisonous fluids?
The other man chuckled. “Generally from diseases, though I don’t believe you have any from what I’ve seen. And from pregnancy. It would not be wise for Tara to give birth to a blue child. Once doctors from this planet realized the baby wasn’t dead, they would whisk it away for experimentation. No child deserves that.”
Cael grabbed the thin material, and gulped. So many dangers on this planet. As soon as he wore the translucent covering, he lined up the tip of his cock with her opening and plunged into her.
She moaned at his invasion. He gripped her hips, and a wave of intense pleasure rushed from his dick, all the way through his body. Being within her was nothing like the totmos. She was wetter, smoother, and her walls clenched around him in waves. So much better.
He drove in and out of her with blinding force. She bucked against him, urging him on. Pressure stirred in his groin. He recognized the sign of impending release. Gods, he wanted to last longer.
He pulled out and squeezed his cock, but his efforts failed. Liquid heat shot like lightning through his veins. The head of his cock swelled, and he came into the foreign covering.
“A newbie, eh?” Mare asked.
He glanced away, embarrassed by his performance. Even during mating, his people fucked all night. The couple would probably throw him out of the room.
Mare pulled out of Tara’s orifice. He slid off the bed and sauntered toward him, resting his hand on Cael’s shoulder. “Hey, no worries. I was the same in the beginning. Why don’t you lie down for a bit, relax, and let Tara take care of you.”
He couldn’t respond, his attention on the massive blue rod bobbing in front of him. The man, whatever he was, and wherever he hailed from, had been gifted with size. And he wanted the other man’s dick in his mouth, and maybe buried in his ass.

Hump Day Hook – Caught gawking in Alien Adoration #HDH #AlienNextDoor #scifi #romance
Hello! Here’s another excerpt from Alien Adoration,
which releases May 10, 2013.
It’s already available for pre-order at All Romance eBooks.
And check out a recipe mentioned in the book today at Romance Cooks!
Remember, in last week’s post, Rachel had been caught staring at her sexy neighbor.
He lifted his hand and waved and without so much as a smile, he returned inside.
Her cheeks burned. God, he’d caught her gawking. Did he think she was spying on him? It’s not as if she gaped into his home. No one could with every window covered in heavy drapery at all times. It only added to his mysterious appeal.
She yanked her curtains closed and slipped back into bed, pulling the blankets over her head. The first time he notices me, and I’m in battered pajamas, with my hair looking like a rat’s nest. Groaning, she turned onto her side, trying to ignore the queasiness in her stomach. In a couple hours for work, she had to get up for work. And the late night interruption meant an extra large black coffee in the morning, just to stay awake. Closing her eyes, she locked away the images of her neighbor’s bare chest for another night.

Book Spotlight: Should’ve Known Better by @Cassandra_Carr #contemporary #hockey #romance
A contemporary hockey romance
by Cassandra Carr
Sara Jenkins is a self-professed math geek and hockey fanatic. She’s thrilled when the Buffalo Sting of the NHL hire her as an advisor because she can marry her two loves into the perfect job.
Sebastian St. Amant is a young French-Canadian hockey player looking to make the jump from the minors to the big leagues. His lifelong dream is within reach, but he needs to convince the Sting’s management and coaches he’s ready for the NHL.
Sara and Sebastian meet, and sparks fly immediately. Both want to succeed at their jobs, but they can’t ignore the growing attraction between them. Of course, a relationship is out of the question since Sara works for the Sting and Sebastian is a player — and one fifteen years her junior. But the impossible becomes the necessary as Sara and Sebastian find they can’t fight their attraction any longer. Even if everything crashes around them, though, they’ll still win the ultimate prize – each other.
Available From:
Excerpt:
Sarah Jenkins scooted to the edge of the seat in her SUV as she stared at the hulking building in front of her. The August sunshine was only partially to blame for the bead of sweat running down the side of her neck. She couldn’t afford to screw this up. After wiping her damp palms on her skirt, she slid out of the car and hit the alarm remote. Turning, she bounced off a hard object and stumbled backward from the force of the impact, letting out an involuntary grunt. The immoveable object was a man, and what a man he was. He had a body like granite, with chiseled features, and was casually attired in shorts and a T-shirt clinging for dear life to his arms and chest. The guy could’ve been a sculpture.
Yum.
“Are you all right?”
Her heart pounded in her ears due to the fight or flight reaction from their collision, paired with the pure, inexplicable rush of lust he evoked.
“I’m, um…” Sarah cleared her throat. Talk, you idiot. “I’m fine.”
Her cheeks flamed as she ducked her head. Was this what scientists meant when they said women were attracted to males they sensed had the strongest DNA? Between his killer body, light green eyes, and sexily tousled head of hair, he looked like he’d just jumped out a cologne ad in GQ. As far as she could see, his DNA was damn near perfect.
It was hard to miss the long, thorough once-over he gave her, leaving her hot and feverish—a reaction she couldn’t attribute purely to the blazing heat or her frazzled nerves.
Their gazes collided and he stared at her with a glimmer of male interest. She wasn’t sure why he’d be interested in her. He was gorgeous, and she was, well, a nerd, for want of a better word. Her eyes were drawn to full lips that would’ve looked feminine on other men, but there was nothing feminine or soft about him. Hard, sinewy muscles stretched over his arms, legs, and torso, but despite his size and musculature he managed to look lean rather than bulky. He reminded her of a panther readying to strike, and her breathing kicked up another notch. Sarah shook her head to clear it. She had a new job to focus on right now and that was the only thing that was important. It had to be. She couldn’t afford to screw this chance up.
“After you,” he said, moving back a step and motioning for her to pass. His voice had a hint of an accent. French-Canadian, perhaps? It rolled over her like a gentle breeze.
“Thank you. And I’m sorry about running into you.”
“I’m not.” He gave her a one-sided, incredibly hot smile.
She needed to get into the building before she did something stupid like offer herself to him as a human buffet.
