Hump Day Hook – Meet Nate from Another Night, Another Planet #scifirom #HDH

Hump Day HookHello everyone! Here’s another look Another Night, Another Planet,

an erotic sci-fi romance, which is set to release this Friday!!

Another Night, Another Planet, an erotic sci-fi romance by Jessica E. Subject

I’m skipping ahead a bit, so you can meet Nate:

“Run, Nate, run!”

Natazekiel, well aware of the stupid remark he’d made, bounded out of the pub behind his friend. As he rushed past, he toppled tables and chairs on their sides to slow his pursuers. Slamming into the doorframe, he lost his footing. He spun around, catching sight of the burly, blue-skinned Otarians lumbering after him, veins throbbing in their thick necks.

Regaining his balance, he scrambled down the street. He spotted Wyn ahead of him, rounding a corner. But the men he’d pissed off remained on his heels. If he followed his friend, they would chase him, too. If Wyn reached their star cruiser first, Nate hoped he would find a way to rescue him.

Book Spotlight & Giveaway: Cursed by Cate Masters

Cursed ~ Cate Masters ~ Banner

Cursed by Cate Masters

Cursed by Cate MastersBruno diCesare lives alone by necessity, not choice. An experiment performed by Leonardo da Vinci, who believed having a dual DNA would grant a person immortality, used magic to render Bruno a chimera – the head of a lion, body of a dragon. The only time he can mingle with people is during Carnevale, ten glorious days of masked anonymity, frivolity and intimacy.

Melina Weaver learned fire dancing to enliven her dull existence. A scientist, her long hours at the lab leave no time for a social life. For ten days at Carnevale, she can pretend to be someone else. Someone sexy and daring, who lives on the edge.

Once she meets Bruno, her wish comes true, but everything goes terribly wrong. Beneath Bruno’s costume lurks an alpha male, but is he dangerous? Worse, can she return to an employer who sells her research to the military to make an army of efficient killers? Her only hope may lie with the man she’s just met and never seen.

BOOK TRAILER:

Excerpt:

Light danced in his dark eyes. “I must admit, your fire dancing fascinated me. What made you choose such a dangerous skill to master?”

“The thrill of the challenge, I suppose.” It balanced the rest of her mundane life, to a degree. Mastering each new level gave her a sense of achievement, where work couldn’t.

Something flashed through his dark eyes. “Mistakes must be very painful.”

“I practiced a long time before I worked up the nerve to actually light the wands. I found the fire great incentive to focus, however.” God, her grin must be goofy, the way he stared. Such gorgeous eyes, such a deep brown they almost appeared black. He probably had rugged features, if his large hands provided any indication. Too bad he wore gloves, another barrier between them.

“Yes,” he said, “I imagine so.”

“What about you? What other magic do you know?” Oh please, can you get any more ridiculous? It sounded like a line from a bad chick flick.

The crinkle around his eyes was the only evidence of his smile, but enough to charm her.

“Lifetimes of studying the dark arts have provided me with many tricks.”

“Lifetimes?” she blurted.

He stiffened in her arms. “Pardon?”

She watched him carefully. “You said ‘lifetimes’. Plural.” And what the hell did he mean by ‘dark arts’?

Rigidity masked the grace of his movements. “I’m sure you’re mistaken.” He stared over her head as they whirled to the song’s rhythm.

Mistaken my ass. How very strange. More strange that the question upset him. He’d clammed up, and his muscles were so tense, she expected him to bolt. Better to drop it. For now. “Must have been a slip of the tongue.”

“Yes.” Relief sounded in his tone, though guarded.

This man had something to hide. How intriguing.

IF ONLY – The inspiration & an excerpt #romance #secondchances @_lisamowens

Hello Jessica and a big shout-out to all of your wonderful readers out there! My first novel, titled If Only, has recently been released through Liquid Silver Books. It is a story about second chances and the never-ending power of love.

I thought I would give everyone a little sneak peek and reveal my thoughts and my inspiration involved with writing this novel.

If Only by Lisa M. Owens

My Inspiration - Guest Blog Post by Lisa M. Owens

I think every one of us has that one decision that we wish we could take back. Something you did or didn’t do, that fateful decision that changed our lives forever. But what if you had the chance to go back and change it? Make the right decision the second time around?

Would you risk changing your past to build a better future?

If you could change anything in your past, what would it be?

These are some of the questions I asked myself one night after my children were tucked into bed.  I started reflecting back on my own life, questioning some of the choices that I had made and I wondered, would I have changed anything if I had been given the chance? Would I risk losing it all to have a different outcome? How could my life have been different if I had changed that decision?

I think we all have those moments when we wonder if we made the right decision. All of these constant questions buzzed around in my head, like persistent bees until I finally decided to pick up a pad of paper and a pencil and jot down some ideas. I never thought it would turn into anything else other than a few errant questions.

What if a woman was out celebrating her divorce from a cruel and violent man and she ran into her ex-fiance? What if he was happily married with a baby on the way? How would she feel seeing him again? What would happen if she got the chance to go back and marry him instead?

But later that night, after I had made out a detailed list of questions that covered two pages, something inside me urged me to start hashing out a first chapter. I wrote the first chapter that very night, never imagining that I would ever complete it, much less get it published.

This novel is the very first of my If Only series, about strong and independent heroines that get the second chances that they have always dreamed of. But sometimes, we wish for things that we shouldn’t…

I am currently working on the second novel in this series, What If.

Thank you so much for having me, Jessica!  Below is a blurb and excerpt for If Only.

If Only by Lisa M. OwensIf Only by Lisa M. Owens:

What would you do if you had the opportunity to go back and relive your greatest mistake?

Five years ago, Bree Sexton walked out on her fiancé and into the arms of a charming and handsome stranger. She has regretted her decision ever since. Instead of a fairy-tale marriage, her “prince” shattered her dreams and her spirit with physical violence and emotional cruelty she barely escaped.

She then mysteriously wakes up in bed with the fiancé she loved and left, the life she’d dreamed of now a reality, until her cruel ex-husband reappears to destroy her new life. But what is real, and what is make-believe? Is she really getting the chance she has always dreamed of? And when it is all said and done, will she finally end up with the man she has always regretted leaving? Or will she wake up to discover herself alone?

Excerpt:

Bree stood there for a minute, watching as he walked out of her life. She couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if she had married Scott instead of Bryan. How would her life have been different? Would she have had children by now? Would she and Scott still be together, after all this time? Those thoughts and more weighed heavily on her mind as she headed out of the bar. It had begun to snow, and she wrapped her coat even tighter around her slender frame. She looked around, but there was no one to be found. She couldn’t help herself; she stuck out her tongue, a childish impulse she couldn’t ignore, and then laughed out loud in spite of herself.

She looked both ways before attempting to cross the street. Not seeing any cars, she began to make her way across. Bree was walking cautiously when one of her high heels slipped on a patch of ice. She could feel herself falling, and her breathing quickened as she began to panic, wishing she had waited for her friends before venturing off on her own. One shoe flew off as she landed, her head striking the curb. A sharp pain racked through the back of her skull, causing her to cry out. The last thing she saw was Scott’s face swimming before her eyes, and then her world went black.

Bree awoke to a man nipping gently on her earlobe, his tongue stroking the delicate curves. His hot breath blew into her ear, sending shivers up and down her spine. She slowly opened her eyes as a man’s hand stroked her upper thigh, and she sighed happily.

Ooh, I must be dreaming. And it was such a delicious dream, too.

The man’s hand traveled up her thigh and then encircled her flat stomach. Out of the corner of her eyes, Bree could see a dark head pressing against her abdomen. Then she shivered as a tongue laved her belly button, going in and out erotically, making her feel as though her body was on fire. Bryan had never made her feel like this, and she hadn’t even looked yet to see who this stranger was! But she was only dreaming, so what difference did it make?

His hand continued traveling north, lovingly caressing her skin. He reached for her aching breasts, pressing her nipples roughly before he lowered his mouth to suckle them, first one, and then the other. Bree arched in anxious response to his touch. She longed to see his face, but she feared one look would make his magical touch disappear.

She ached all over, wanted his hands to caress her everywhere, and she longed to touch him. She opened her legs as he straddled her. His hair brushed her naked chest as he began kissing her. His tongue was driving her crazy with desire as he placed tender kisses along her neckline. He brushed her hair aside.

His morning stubble stung her delicate skin, but she hungered for more. Just one more touch, just one more taste, and she would awaken from this wonderful dream and find herself in bed, all alone.

“Oh, Bree, baby. What you do to me,” he whispered, his voice husky.

That voice jerked her back to the present. The voice had haunted her dreams for

years. The voice of the man she just couldn’t seem to get over.

“Scott,” she whispered.

About the Author

The writing bug bit Lisa M. Owens at an early age; she was writing short stories and poetry by the age of seven. At the age of eight, she entered a writing contest at her elementary school. About fifty books were written, but Lisa was one of the thirteen writers chosen who received a certificate and the chance to meet Oklahoma writer Sandy Miller.

A former victim of domestic violence herself, Lisa worked at the courthouse for over seven years. Almost three of those years she worked on the Marriage License/Protective Order desk. She helped women file protective orders and worked closely with the staff and counselors at DVIS.

Frustrated with books that merely gloss over the subject of domestic violence, Lisa wanted to write a book that told the entire story. Her dream is for her words to help give someone the courage to leave an abusive relationship.

She resides in Oklahoma and has two children. This is her first published novel, and she is currently working on the next novel of her If Only series.

Lisa enjoys hearing from her readers and can be reached at P.O. Box 9643, Tulsa, OK 74157-0643, or by e-mail, lisamowens@ymail.com. She can also be contacted on her website, www.lmowens.com.

#MySexySaturday – An unexpected meeting in An Unexpected Return #scifirom

My Sexy Saturday

Hello everyone! I’m continuing with the author meme called My Sexy Saturday. Every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.

An Unexpected Return by Jessica E. Subject

Here is Xia’s first meeting with Prince Aris in AN UNEXPECTED RETURN:

Walking into the silky rear-end of an oroke, she came to an abrupt halt. The creature had been walking at a steady pace and then stopped. She’d failed to notice in time. Wiping fluff off her face, she turned around and walked into another hard body. “I’m so sorry.”

Hands clamped down on her arms. “Are you all right?”

She stared up into deep brown eyes. Chewing her bottom lip, she nodded. If this man hadn’t been holding on to her, she would have fallen to the ground. The word swoon held no meaning for her until now. Am I only like this because of the eletin I inhaled back home? Or was there something more she found heart-racing about the blue-skinned, well-muscled hunk of an Otarian who held her up? No, she couldn’t feel anything for him. Their races had been sworn enemies for years. Everyone across the galaxy knew that. Yet here she was, standing face to face, gazing intently at him, with no will to move.

He smiled at her, drawing her attention from his eyes to his lips. How would they taste? She’d never kissed anyone intimately before.

“What’s your name?”

Name? Gods, what was her name? “Zee…Xia.” Had she told him, or only thought the word?

He released her arms to brush his fingers along her jaw line. How she remained standing, she had no idea.

Writing a Series VS. Writing a Book – Guest Post by Karolyn James

All Access by Karolyn James

Sitting down to write a series isn’t quite the same as sitting down write a book. Sure, that sounds pretty logical and maybe even obvious, but without being completely organized, a series can quickly become a nightmare. When I finally found myself in a chair, ready to start typing away at Brothers of Rock, there had been months of previous work happening.

I needed the general idea of the band. The name, the members, what they played. Then I needed the history of the band. How long they had been together, when they got together, and where they were in their careers right then.

From there, I took massive notes on the five book series, trying to detail it the best I could without becoming too much of a ‘plotster’.  There are certain themes, geography, and timing issues that needed to be written and kept organized for the series.

On top of that, it was really fun to see what I was about to create. Of course, a lot of the story didn’t come to life until I began writing, which is why I make sure to keep my outlines ‘open’ meaning they can be changed as needed.

The fun part of writing a series are the small details. The way someone acts in book one and how it shows again in the fifth book. How an action in book two creates something in book four. You’re not just writing a stand alone novel at this point. Now, the Brothers of Rock series can be read as stand alone books but it’s best to read in order. I made sure that each book has a complete plot within it but there’s so much happening with Chasing Cross that the series is most enjoyable in order.

Even when writing, I keep my outline handy, my series outline handy, and a notebook for some notes. I love expanding on the story lines and finding ways to make it more enjoyable. And thanks to the huge response so far, there are talks that Brothers of Rock might go beyond the five book mark!

I thank all my readers for the love and support… and the constant feedback to keep my fingers typing.

All Access by Karolyn James

***For fans of Nashville the TV show and Bella Andre, the BROTHERS OF ROCK series is dramatic, sexy, romantic, and entertaining. It sizzles!***

As Johnnie sits across from the beautiful woman, he can’t believe she doesn’t recognize him. Everyone does. It comes with the territory when you’re the lead singer of one of the hottest bands in the world, Chasing Cross. With one more show to go before taking a small break in touring, it feels like luck is on Johnnie’s side. That is, if he can find a way to tell Jess who he is, without scaring her off.

After her best friend begs her to come to a concert, Jess finds herself standing in the middle of a crowd. The lights are off, music begins, and the crowd erupts in cheers. She doesn’t know much about the band, but that’s all about to change. When the lights come on, Jess can’t believe her eyes. The lead singer of the band is the man from the café.

Plucked from the crowd during the show, Jess makes her way backstage. The encore may have ended on stage, but the real show is just about to begin. Johnnie’s passion quickly turns to romance but the more time he and Jess spend together, the more things get complicated. Interview with Casey Sheridan, author of Sirus Bandai: The Invisible Bandit #romance @CaseSheridan

Good day! Please welcome a wonderful author that I met on twitter, Casey Sheridan.

Sirus Bandai by Casey SheridanHi Casey! It’s such a pleasure to have you visit my blog! Can you tell us about your latest release, Sirus Bandai: The Invisible Bandit?

Casey: Thanks Jessica! It’s wonderful to be here and I’m always happy to talk about Sirus Bandai.

Sirus Bandai: The Invisible Bandit is about Ciara Walker and her attraction to two sexy men: superhero Ace of Spades and billionaire Moose Hannigan. Ciara is attracted to both men for different reasons.

When Sirus Bandai comes onto the scene, she has her eyes set on Moose, but finds Ciara in her way.

Oh, a lot of twists and turns. Describe the heroine, Ciara Walker in three words.

Casey: Three words? Good heavens! Feisty, creative, and strong.

Ace of Spades is a sexy superhero who wears black spandex. What superpowers does he have? And why is Ciara attracted to him?

Casey: Ace of Spades has extraordinary strength. He can also sense certain types of crime and the criminals associated with it. Ace also has an arsenal of razor edged playing cards that are made from an unknown alloy.

Ciara is attracted to Ace because of his strength, his persistence, and his protection of her. I think she’s also attracted to the mystery, the man behind the mask. Ace also has a killer body that the tight black spandex shows off.

I can understand her attraction. But then there’s the seductive billionaire, Moose Hannigan. What does he offer Ciara that Ace doesn’t?

Casey: Moose sees in Ciara a strong woman that would make a good partner. She’s creative, classy, and sexy. Of course, she doesn’t see herself in that way, but likes that Moose does. It gives her a sense of freedom, something that she doesn’t feel from Ace.

Wait! There’s one more! The mysterious Sirus Bandai. How does she get in Ciara’s way?

Casey: Actually, Sirus Bandai doesn’t really get in Ciara’s way. Ciara gets in her way by keeping her from Moose. As far as Sirus Bandai is concerned, Ciara is a stick-in-the-mud. She just won’t let Sirus have any fun.

What was your inspiration for this story?

Casey: My inspiration came from when I was a kid. I’ve always like superheroes. My brother and I would rush home from school just to watch the Spiderman cartoon and the X-Men cartoon. So when I started writing, I wanted to write something with superheroes. A sexy superhero story has always been in my head. It was a lot of fun creating all the characters from the main characters right down to the secondary and walk on characters.

Who is your favorite character from this book? Can you include an excerpt involving this character?

Casey: Actually, my favorite character in Sirus Bandai: The Invisible Bandit (besides Sirus herself) is Blue Gill, the cross-dressing thief. Coming up with his outrageous outfits was a challenge, believe it or not, but he’s the most interesting, quirky, and sweet character.

Here’s an excerpt for you:

It was hard to believe how swiftly this person moved in four-inch heels—especially since it was a man. He dodged Ciara’s attempts to take back her necklace with the ease of a basketball player dribbling a ball down an open court.

“You might as well just give it back. You’re not leaving here with it,” Ciara warned through clenched teeth.

“We shall see,” he countered in his odd singsong voice. “I so love pearls.”

Ciara ground her teeth. She should have known something was wrong when the guy entered her small shop. How was she to know that the hairy little man in the white sequined tube top, shiny blue hot pants, and high heels was a thief?

Okay, maybe her eyebrows shot up when she first laid eyes on him, but to each his own, she’d thought. Now the monkey had one of her most expensive pieces in his fuzzy little hands.

“Listen, furball, the cops are going to be here any second, so why not play nice and just give me back my necklace.”

The man glared at her. “The name is Gill.”

She couldn’t care less about his name. She would have rolled her eyes, but in order to keep him there for the cops she needed to block any escape, and that meant keeping her eyes on him so she knew when to move.

He tried to make a run for the main entrance of the shop, but Ciara grabbed the long blue feather boa he wore. It pulled tight around his throat, and when she gave it a good tug, he fell right on his ass. He lost his hold on the necklace, sending it sliding across the floor, but before she could grab the piece, Gill snatched it up again and scrambled to his feet with a triumphant smirk. Now they were at a standoff.

Where the hell were the cops? No way was she going to let this woolly baboon just walk away with a $200,000 South Sea pearl necklace. No way!

Number 69 by Casey SheridanLove it! Who is your favorite superhero? Please explain why.

Casey: Wow, that’s a hard question to answer. I want to say Batman, but I’m afraid that may be because of Christian Bale (He’s hot!). I like Robert Downey, Jr as Ironman, so I guess I can’t say Ironman is my favorite.  Then there’s Spiderman and Superman. You know Jessica, I’m not so sure I can pick one favorite. What I like about all of them are their complexities. The mix of strength and brute force when needed combined with the inner turmoil to love and be loved by someone special. The quick wit they have and the fact that they can be the butt of jokes at the same time. They push themselves to be more than the can be, knowing their limits, but going beyond those boundaries no matter what.

My favorite has always been Superman. What are some of your favorite superhero movies and television shows?

Casey: I love watching old reruns of The Green Hornet. That was originally on television in the late 1960′s to early 1970′s and starred Van Williams and Bruce Lee. Of course, there’s the Spiderman cartoon I mentioned earlier, Batman with Christian Bale, especially The Dark Knight Rises, Ironman (I like the smart ass personality that Robert Downey, Jr. gives him), and X-Men. No one could do Wolverine like Hugh Jackman.

All great superheroes, too! Do you get upset when movies and shows are different from the original comic strip? Or do you just go with the flow and enjoy the new story line?

Casey: I guess it depends on the story line. Sometimes a change is good because you can expand on the original, do something that brings out more facets of the story that couldn’t be done in the original because space or time constraints. I’m willing to give a new storyline a chance.

Have you read other superhero fiction? If so, what is the most memorable one?

Casey: Gosh, no. I’ve not read any other superhero fiction at all. I’ll have to look into that.

What genres do you write in, and what appeals to you about those genres?

Casey: I write erotica and erotica with romance. I like them because they’re fun and a challenge. It’s not easy writing sex and making it good. Actually, what I should say is it’s not easy writing good sex. Anyone can write a sex scene, but making it good, making it so you need a cold shower after reading it is a challenge. It has to be more than tab A inserted into slot B. That’s the challenge.

Ruby Red Metallic by Casey SheridanWhat other titles do you have published?

Casey: Ruby Red Metallic published by Breathless Press. Only one thing stands between Alaina and her passion. His name is Scott. Alaina is a car thief and Scott is the owner of her passion: A Porsche 911 GT3

Number 69 also published by Breathless Press. Melodie receives an invitation to an exclusive match-making party that involves vibrating panties.

Corporate Spy is a short story I self-published. Aimee breaks into Bill’s apartment looking for a flash drive that contains secret company information, but what she sees is something she’ll not soon forget.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Casey: I’m a little of both. I write down key points for a story, put them in order, and then fill in everything else as I go along.

Sounds like me. :) What genres do you enjoy reading?

Casey: Mystery, Sci-fi, historical, erotic romance

A little of everything. What author(s) have influenced your writing style?

Casey: Shelli Stevens, Saskia Walker, Nicole North

Where can my readers find you?

Casey: My website. They can follow me on Facebook or on Twitter.

Where can my readers find your books?

Casey: They can find all my books with buy links and reviews on my website or on Amazon.

Hump Day Hook – Ready to leave Earth in Another Night, Another Planet #HDH #scifirom

Hump Day HookHello everyone! Here’s another look Another Night, Another Planet,

an erotic sci-fi romance, which is set to release June 14, 2013.

Another Night, Another Planet, an erotic sci-fi romance by Jessica E. Subject

This excerpt follows last week’s:

Raised by middle-class parents she’d had little chance of furthering her education past what the government paid for. When her father had received a pink slip from his employer of twenty star cycles, any hope she’d held of going to college flew out the window. Without an advanced degree, she found nothing but meaningless jobs paying her less than the effort she put into them.

Bags checked, Ava dashed down the plain white corridors of the employee level, pausing for the vacuum seals to release on doors along the way, until she reached her room for the duration of her stay. After thumbing the security pad to open the door, she crashed on the bed to the left, the right one belonging to Michelle, her best friend, who had convinced her to apply to housekeeping aboard Star Spirit. They interviewed together, starting space training the very next day. Four star cycles later, she enjoyed a quick moment to rest before venturing out on her seventh tour. Though she didn’t have much of a life traveling through space, she received better pay than she would find anywhere on Earth. Providing her basic needs of food and shelter while on-board, the owners of the ship also compensated her well enough to split her earnings between her parents and her savings account when she returned home. She couldn’t let the people who had raised her suffer because she’d found an opportunity they hadn’t.
