Q&A with @LauraKayeAuthor ~ Enter to WIN 1 of 5 $10 GCs! #HardAsYouCan #Giveaway

Q&A WITH LAURA KAYE
HARD AS YOU CAN is your second book in the “Hard Ink” series (after USA Today bestseller, HARD AS IT GETS). What can readers look forward to?
Readers can look forward to tons of sexy alpha male goodness, awesome bromance between the Hard Ink men, more antics from the Hard Ink puppy, and another great love story between Shane and Crystal. But readers should also be ready for a book that is darker, more intense, and more emotional. This book pushed me to emotional places that were tough as a writer, and might be tough for readers, too. But I think that just makes the payoff at the end so much sweeter!
Describe Shane and Crystal. What are their best traits? What are their weaknesses?
Shane and Crystal are such an amazing couple to me. They’re each exactly what the other needs. Shane’s best traits are his protectiveness, his fundamental kindness, and his soul-deep loyalty (his southern accent and humor are also right up there!). His biggest weakness for sure is a tragedy from the past for which he blames himself—and it’s something that continues to motivate him in Hard As You Can. Crystal’s best traits are her courage, protectiveness, and selflessness—she’s willing to do anything to keep her younger sister safe. Her biggest weakness is also that selflessness, because the sacrifices she’s required to make are getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
If you could describe your book in a 140 character tweet, what would it be?
When a woman in trouble assists an ex-soldier’s covert mission to regain his team’s stolen honor, he finds a new mission to save her, too
What are you most excited about with this second book release?
I’m really excited to take readers deeper into these awesome characters and into the mystery behind the Hard Ink team’s ambush and discharge!
What books are you reading right now?
I’m almost done with Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander (yes, I’m very late to the party but OMG JAMIE FRASER!!!). And I’ve recently devoured and loved Juliana Stone’s Offsides and Shelly Thacker’s time-travel historical romance, Forever His.
What can fans of your “Hard Ink” series look forward to next?
There will be two more Hard Ink books in 2014!
Hard to Hold on To – August 2014
Hard to Come By – November 2014
HARD AS YOU CAN by Laura Kaye
Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.
Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.
Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn’t want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can–and never let go.
Enjoy An Excerpt:
Release day is finally here! And I’m thrilled to share Hard As You Can, the second book in my Hard Ink series, with all of you here today! Hard As You Can follows the surviving members of a disgraced Army Special Forces team as they fight to regain their stolen honor, and finds their investigation crossing paths with a waitress willing to do whatever it takes to stay alive and protect her younger sister. For Shane McCallan, saving Crystal Dean is a mission he refuses to turn down.
Today, I’m super excited to share a sexy and emotional excerpt with you guys! Here we go:
“Don’t look at me like that, Crystal,” Shane said, his voice a raw scrape. It wasn’t a demand or a threat. It was a plea. And the thought that this big, strong, powerful man was begging her for anything was thrilling.
“Like what?” she asked, dragging her gaze up to his. In the diffuse light of the streetlamp, she could tell his eyes were absolutely blazing, and it only fueled the arousal rising up inside her.
“Like maybe you want me the way I want you.” Tilting his head, he nuzzled his face against hers, the tip of his nose trailing over her cheek, his breath ghosting over her lips. “Like maybe you’d let me kiss you and touch you.” A quick brush of his lips against her temple and ear. “Like maybe you’d let me in.”
Crystal could barely breathe for the way her heart was pounding and her pulse was racing. She slid a hand up his chest to his neck, wanting, needing, just absolutely yearning to have this. Just this once.
Leaning into him, Crystal held his gaze and adored the way his expression filled with such expectant satisfaction, like she’d surprised him. Pleased him. She pressed her lips to his.
The groan he unleashed was needful, almost triumphant. His arms came around her gently and pulled her in. And it wasn’t enough. She needed to be closer. Deeper.
She needed more of Shane McCallan.
She might never get another chance.
A flicker of unbidden panic whipped through her body. Bruno had been her only lover for the past four years, and she’d only been able to take him inside her after months’ buildup of trust and familiarity of touch. That was back before he’d shown his true colors. Or before she’d shed her naïveté. Maybe they were the same thing. Who knew? Stop thinking about Bruno and get out of your head. Just feel. You deserve this. You need this. Besides, cart before horse, much?
Shane pulled away and rested his forehead against hers. “I didn’t come here expecting this. Hoped, maybe.” He smiled. “But I really just needed to see you.”
“I’m glad you came,” she said, combing her fingers through the sides of his hair, then holding his face in her hands.
“What do you want, sweetness? I’d give you anything.” Over her hoodie, his hands rubbed up and down her back, hip to shoulder, hip to shoulder.
Crystal couldn’t find the words, so she tilted her face and claimed his lips, and this time the kiss unleashed a fire that seemed to flash through both of them. She shifted into a kneeling position between his thighs, and he hauled her into his lap so that she straddled him. The position brought the hard length of his cock between her legs and she gasped and moaned at the feel of him so close to where she was wet and wanting.
They pressed closer, held tighter, kissed more deeply until all Crystal knew, all that existed in the world, was this moment, this place, this man.
Shane’s hands moved over her body. Fisting in the long lengths of her hair. Gently cupping and massaging her breasts. Stroking her bare thighs. Crystal adored the way he seemed to need to touch her. How powerful and necessary human touch was. How life-giving and affirming. And how simply mind-blowing was it to discover that touch could be a giving thing, not just about taking, that touch could be healing, and not just about hurting, that touch could comfort, and not just exert control. Even when things had been better with Bruno, they’d never been like this.
And to think she’d found someone who could teach her something so fundamental that she’d never known before. Or, maybe, she’d known but hadn’t believed. Now she did. Because of Shane. No matter how little time she got to have him in her life, she would always be grateful that he’d shown her what it could be like. With the right person.
Gripping her hair in his fist, Shane reclined her head, opening the line of her throat to his worshipful lips and tongue. He trailed a path of liquid fire over her flesh that left her dizzy, totally awash in sensation. He tugged her hips in tighter, and Crystal moaned at the friction the movement created. He was deliciously hard and thick between her legs. Unable to resist, she rocked herself against him as he laid her back farther so he could kiss her the small part of her chest the V-neck of the hoodie revealed.
Slowly, he drew down the zipper, trailing kisses lower and lower until the heat of his breath fanned over her nipple through the thin fabric of her uniform. Just as slow, Shane raised her back up, bringing their bodies together again. Crystal ran her hands over his chest and stomach, but what she most needed was to feel him, skin on skin. Pulling back from their kiss, she tugged at the hem of his shirt, silently asking for permission.
“Anything you want,” he whispered, taking her belly and her heart on a loop-the-loop.
Man, I just loved writing these two! *grins* Did you have a favorite line? Thanks for reading!

A surprise kiss for the alien in CRASH LANDING #MySexySaturday #scifi #erotica
Hello everyone! It’s week 37 of My Sexy Saturday.
Here are the details: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.
Today, I’m going to share an excerpt from my
ARe bestselling erotica sci-fi menage, Crash Landing.
Set-up: Cael crash landed on Earth, and after waking up in a strange dwelling, he ends up participating in a menage with a human, and another alien. This excerpt happens after they’ve all had a chance to rest.
Cael stirred when rough lips brushed across his chin. Opening his eyes, he didn’t know what to presume after such an unexpected turn of events. What he’d thought would be the end of his life had led to a completely erotic experience. He lay tucked against Tara’s back, his arm draped across her side. Her soft sighs threatened to lull him back to sleep. Wait, who had kissed him?
The platform dipped, and he glanced behind him.

The inside of the room wasn’t much warmer than outside, an absence of wind the only difference. Kat sat at the table with a blanket around her shoulders and one around her legs. She’d found a deck of cards and had a game of solitaire laid out.
“Restaurant’s got generators,” I said.
She moved a card, then another, in the light of the lantern Johnny’d left behind for us. Acted as if I wasn’t there.
“Hot food, maybe catch some sleep without freezing to death?”
“Not fucking going over there,” she said and moved another card.
“You want to freeze to death?”
“Not any more than you do. All the people from the rooms are going to be over there, all the mother-fucking, stranded-truckers are going to be over there.”
“And that’s where we should be, until the power comes back up.”
In a sudden move, she shoved the cards off the table and fled to the corner of the room. Sank down to the floor. She pulled the blankets up over her head. “Not going. Get away from me, you don’t understand.”
I stared at her, thought she was crying under those blankets. “Kat, Jake’s not coming back.”
Her laughter came. “I know that, asshole. Get away from me.”
Completely baffled, I sat on the floor in front of her. Sat in silence, while my hands grew colder. “Explain to me why you want to sit in this frozen room, versus a nice warm dining room with some hot coffee and some food?”
“You’re the same thing I am,” she said.
“What?” We were Indian? I needed to see her face to know what was going on.
“You going over there to hunt?”
Hunt? Hunt? What was she talking about?
“Going to bring her back here? Hope she has a room, find a storeroom, the bathrooms, share her with me?”
Understanding dawned. What I called my soul’s demon, she saw as hunting. I clearly knew I wouldn’t be having her again, not to get to finish what I started, not to find out if this strange woman could make me feel more than once. Her hunter didn’t want me anymore. Why that disappointed me, I didn’t know, my demon should have been done with her–only mine wasn’t, it hadn’t gotten its release, her hunter had.
“If I start the car, will you sit out there?”
“I really want to be alone, I don’t, but I have to be right now.”
“I’m going to leave the keys,” I said. I didn’t tell her how to start the standard, her RT was a standard as well. “It gets too cold in here, go sit in the car.”
“Are you going?”
“Yes,” I said quietly.
“Thank you,” she said.
“For what?”
“Not hunting me tonight, saving me, helping me. I’m not worth it, you know.”
“Everybody has worth, Kat. Everyone. Even people like us.”
“Only we aren’t quite human are we?”
I set the keys on the table and left the room.

Catching the neighbor skinny dipping in ALIEN ADMIRER #MySexySaturday #99cents
Hi peeps! It’s the 36TH week of My Sexy Saturday. Here are the details:
every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words,
sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.
Today’s seven is from ALIEN ADMIRER, ON SALE for $0.99 until the end of the month.
Set-up: This excerpt is from the beginning of the story. Adam is staring out the window at his sexy neighbor.
He yearned to read her thoughts, sense more than her emotions. Her sadness and grief he empathized with, but nothing explained the confusion he sensed around her. In the few moments alone he’d had with her, she always changed the subject when asked if she’d considered dating again. Sure, she trusted him with her kids, but that trust didn’t extend enough to open up to him. She remained a mystery, one he desperately wanted to solve.
Adam groaned, grabbing a shirt. I’m going out. He’d been through all of this before. No point waiting forever for her to change her mind. So what if his dad said his ability to read her emotions pointed to Sera as his soul mate. She’d probably never view him as anything more than a handy sitter.
Pulling on a pair of jeans, he considered a trip to the local pub. The same women always frequented the place, but at least he’d be guaranteed some action. His fist, and fantasies of the woman next door, no longer brought him much satisfaction. He craved the real thing.
Not going to happen.
After a quick spray of cologne, he peeked out his window one last time. And froze. His neighbor stood naked on the dock, her luscious body glowing in the moonlight. That image ingrained in his mind, his cock stiffened. Screw going to the bar. He either finished the job based on the recent sighting, or acted fast to get even closer to her.
No harm in trying. He rushed down the stairs.

15 February, 1847. Mrs. Wetherall.
He stared down at the name. There was something familiar about it, but he could not recall what it might be. He shrugged. She was soon to appear, and any familiarity would be quickly established.
At that, the door opened and a woman who could only be Mrs. Wetherall swept in, an obscenely large hat obscuring most of her face. A gown of uncommon simplicity clothed her person, but for all the garment was simple, it was obviously well made, which suggested wealth.
Ah, well, no matter if he knew her name or not. A wealthy client was always welcome.
Dunn trailed behind her, his expression as eager as ever. “Mrs. Wetherall, sir.”
Arthur inclined his head. “Thank you. That will be all.”
“Right you are, sir.” The clerk bobbed his head and left, closing the door behind him with a quiet click.
Arthur turned his regard to the woman. Currently she studied his qualifications, hung on the wall along with the framed pictures his mother had given him for his birthday every year since he’d become a solicitor. “Mrs. Wetherall, good afternoon. Please, seat yourself.”
Her shoulders straightened infinitesimally but she didn’t respond, instead continuing to regard the wall.
Irritation tugged, but he suppressed it. Emotion would get him nowhere. “Mrs. Wetherall?”
With a sweep of her skirts, the lady and her hat settled into the chair before his desk.
Frowning, he sank to his own seat. That enormous hat was absurd, still disguising her face. Why did women think such things were attractive? In addition to being ludicrous, it no doubt put undue pressure upon her neck.
Lacing her hands in her lap, the lady finally spoke. “I find I require the services of a solicitor in regards to my late husband’s will.”
The hair at the back of his neck stood up. No. Oh, Christ, no.
The hat tilted, exposing her face. Every muscle in Arthur’s body seized.
Mrs. Wetherall, formerly Miss Sarah Stanhope and the bane of his childhood, glared at him from beneath her ridiculous hat.

3rd Craziest Blog Tour Ever! COMING TO REASON by @Liza0Connor #disaster #romance

Jessica and Family has escaped the twenty feet of snow in Canada, and are living in her spaceship presently.

Jessica: Captain Mars. I’ve great news. Carrie Hanson and a friend are coming to visit. You remember Carrie don’t you?
Mars: If that is a subtle way of asking me if my mind is failing, the answer is no. I recall Carrie Hanson very well. She is without doubt the finest young woman I have ever met.
Jessica: By all means, don’t worry about insulting me, your commander and chief.
Mars: My apologies, sir. But given your children are 5 and 10, I no longer categorize you as a young woman.
Jessica: And what category have you tossed me in, pray tell?
Mars: Let me apologize, sir, for any insult I have accidentally given. I consider you an exceptional woman in your prime, not a young miss still clueless to the world.
Jessica: Thank you for the clarification Captain Mars. You may beam up my guests now.
Mars: As you wish, sir. Transportation in process…

*Two young women materialize on the platform*

Destiny: That was so freaken cool!
Carrie: Really? I don’t really like having my body dissolve into a trillion particles, then reassemble on the other end.
Jessica: Sorry. But my house below is buried under snow and I’m tired of shoveling and risking my life to keep groceries in stock. So I moved my family up here.
Carrie: Do you still have your clone of Mars.
Jessica: Yes I do. He’s my captain now. He’s the most competent man I’ve ever met. I’ve no idea why the original settled on being a butler. He should be running your country.
Carrie: Only a masochist would take that job.
Jessica: The man worked for Trent…how much more masochistic can you get?
Carrie: Good point.
Destiny: She’s right. Mars should be president. If anyone can force congress to behave, it would him.
Jessica: And who is your friend with the Princess Leia buns?
Carrie: Sorry, this is Destiny. She’s my friend and coworker.
Jessica: One of your new hires at Lancaster?
Carrie: No. Trent fired me. I’m working at Dan Marshal’s Resource firm now.
Destiny: He’s my dad. We are thrilled to have her, and we aren’t giving her up even if Trent stops being a jerk and pays the two million he owes my dad.
*Captain Mars enters with a tray of beverage.*
Mars: “Miss Carrie. It is a pleasure to see you.”
Carrie: Congratulations on your promotion. I bet you’re the best captain there’s ever been.
Destiny: A real captain of a real space ship! This is the coolest thing ever. Will show me how to fly the ship?
Jessica: Go on Mars. Show Carrie’s friend around.
Mars: Follow me. But no touching anything without my express permission.

Jessica: *focuses on Carrie* So, you and Trent broke up. I’m not surprised. You were always too good for him.
Carrie: We aren’t broken up. We just became a normal couple where we work at different places.
Jessica: So why did you bring Destiny with you instead of Trent?
Carrie: Well, for one because Trent would go through the roof if he knew you cloned his butler. And believe me, given how crazy he’s been acting, you do not want him on a warpath.
Jessica: That’s for certain. So tell me about your new boss.
Carrie: Dan’s a fabulous person. I’ve known him since book one, but we’ve become really good friends now. When Trent up and fired me without any warning, I went to Dan, since he’s the best recruiter in New York City, hoping he’d be able to find me a job. Instead, he asked me to work for him. He has a serious problem and I’m planning to solve it.
Jessica: Of course you are. Is Dan as needy as Trent?
Carrie: Not at all. He’s very much in charge of his life. He doesn’t need me to fix his problem, he’s just letting me, since I need a job.
Jessica: Excellent. Tell me more.
Carrie: I have a picture of him. Liza painted it. He normally is smiling. I don’t know why she painted him so worried.
Jessica: Maybe he’s worried about you.
Carrie: That’s silly. Why would he worry about me?
Jessica: I’ve heard rumors Trent has a harem.
Carrie: I’ve heard that as well. It’s his all-female sales staff. They are pretty, if you like short skirts and barely there blouses, and yes they do flirt with him, but he doesn’t like it. I’ve personally seen him push them away from him.
Jessica: Did you by chance enter the room when he did that?
Carrie: Yes. How did you know?
Jessica: Just a wild guess on my part. So Dan has a daughter, does that means he’s married?
Carrie: No. He’s been a single parent most of Destiny’s life. She is a wonderfully sweet person. She wants to be me when she grows up.
Jessica: How old is she?
Carrie: 19. She’s in college and takes care of Dan’s computer and phone issues at work. I love her to death. I’ve got some really great friends now. I feel so fortunate.
Jessica: I’m glad you’re getting new friends. Are you still friends with Tall and Tiny.
Carrie: Yes. I even go to another of their Broadway shows in Coming to Reason. *Carrie frowns* I’m a bit worried about the name of this book. What do I need to come to reason about?
Jessica: You’ll know when it hits you. And if you need a place to shelter afterwards, you can always come up here and hang out with Mars. According to him, you’re his favorite person in the whole world.
Carrie: I think highly of him as well. Speaking of which, I should retrieve Destiny before she attempts to take the ship for a joy ride. She’s very playful.
Jessica: It was great having you. Come back any time.
Carrie: Thanks. I hope springs come so you can return to your home.
Jessica: Me too. Kid proofing a space ship is impossible!

Carrie Hanson woke to the loving caresses of her boss and boyfriend, Trent Lancaster. She smiled as he rolled on top of her and dwarfed her petite four-foot-six body. God, she loved the man he’d become.
He possessed many admirable traits now: strong, thoughtful, a wonderful sense of humor, caring, and smart. Unfortunately, he had a couple of qualities she outright wished he didn’t. Due to his terrible upbringing, Trent would erupt into temperamental outbursts over the stupidest problems. Worse yet, he was a billionaire; a six-foot-tall, blue-eyed, dark-haired, handsome bachelor of society. Wolves could have done a better job raising him than his horrid, but thankfully dead, parents.
His eyes sparkled with love as he tugged off her teddy and perused her body. She breathed in at the warmth of his hand. His touch always set her skin on fire.
“I think we’re going to be late to work today.”
With a soft chuckle, she corrected him, “It’s Sunday.”
His eyes rounded for a moment. “I love Sundays.” He captured her hands and moved them to the ornate metal of the headboard, curling her fingers around the bars.
“I love you,” he added and kissed her with hungry passion, while his hands caressed her breasts.
A haze of nirvana enveloped her for a blissful moment, then a jarring ring pulled her from heaven. Releasing the headboard, she slapped the black radio alarm by her bedside, determined to quiet it before it ruined the mood. Unfortunately, the ringing continued.
“No!” she yelped when Trent rolled to the side and climbed off the bed. He reached for his pants on the floor and extracted his phone.
“Trent.”
Whoever called had him scurrying to the bathroom so he could talk in private. Carrie hoped a friend didn’t need money. His moments of generosity never worked out well.
She glared at the closed door. Who calls at six in the morning on a Sunday? She sat up, grabbed her teddy, and put it on. They had been so close to having morning sex, something she greatly liked since it put her in a good mood the entire day. However, she’d just discovered interrupted, no morning sex, made her disgruntled and grumpy.
She pushed out of bed and followed him to the bathroom, only he’d locked her out. His action surprised her. He rarely even bothered closing the door, never mind locking it.
Curious, she pressed her ear against the balsa wood. His low, refined voice came through loud and clear. “Got to go. I’ll see you soon.”
A second later, he opened the door and pulled her into his arms. “Missed me?” He captured her mouth with his.
She pushed away from his kiss, knowing if he planned to see someone soon, he’d booted morning sex to the curb. “Don’t heat me up if you don’t plan to finish what you start.”

Luke and Rachel finally have dinner together in ALIEN ADORATION #MySexySaturday
Hello everyone! Time for another My Sexy Saturday. It’s the 35th week, and here are the details: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.
I’m going to share an excerpt from my science fiction romance, Alien Adoration, which is the first book in the Alien Next Door series. Right now, it’s ON SALE for only $0.99!!!
Set-up: Rachel and Luke have been neighbors for two years. They’re both attracted to each other but have been too scared to talk to each other, let alone date. But one night when Luke finds her walking home from a date gone wrong, soaking wet, he offers her a lift. And everything changes. Here’s an excerpt from their first dinner together:
“Can I kiss you?”
She gazed up at him, caught off guard by his question. “What?”
He smiled and ran his hand up and down her arm. “Can I kiss you? I don’t think I can make it through dinner if I don’t.”
His dark green eyes, a shade away from black, captivated her. They were so intense and full of passion. All for the woman she’d transformed into to spend the night with him. She turned away. She couldn’t do it. God, she wanted to feel his lips on hers, to experience the thrill of the man of her fantasies making love to her, but it could never happen. Not like this. “Luke, this isn’t me. The dress, hair style, and even the lack of hair south of the border is not who I am. I can’t be one of those women who leave you in the middle of the night.”
Would he back off, end their date before she had the chance to blink?
No, he stepped closer, backing her into the counter, his groin pressing against her belly. He cupped the sides of her face and stared into her eyes, his gaze more focused than ever. “I told you, I don’t want those women. While I’m flattered you went through all that trouble for me, I’d still want to kiss you if you hadn’t. I’ve wanted you since I moved in.”
His lips grazed hers, and she closed her eyes, forgetting all of her reasons to stop him.
Only $0.99 for the month of February!
