Celebrate The Calibans Cover Reveal and Enter to Win $50
To celebrate the cover reveal of the third and final book of The Purgatorium Series, Eva Pohler is hosting a fabulous Facebook event and rafflecopter giveaway.
In the first book, The Purgatorium, seventeen-year-old Daphne Janus has no idea that her parents have sent her to an experimental psychologist on an island off the coast of California as a last-ditch effort to save her from herself. People go to the island wanting to die, and they leave fighting to live. This book is FREE!
In the second book, Gray’s Domain, Daphne is delighted to learn she will now have a chance to have revenge on her parents and boyfriend by participating in their therapy, but when real bullets fly and lives are at stake, she decides she wants no part of it and hatches a plan to save her family against what she sees as a tyrannical doctor.
In the final book, The Calibans, Daphne returns to the island to save her best friend, Cam, and the other “Calibans” who’ve been brainwashed by Dr. Gray, but, once again, things aren’t what they seem. Daphne’s entire world comes crashing down along with the Purgatorium when federal ATF officers arrive with a warrant during a dangerous exercise. What she believed to be so isn’t, and the blurry line between art and reality leaves her reeling.
Without further ado, another masterpiece from Book Cover Corner…
To help us celebrate, enter the Rafflecopter giveaway below for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card. Also join the Facebook party on February 1st at 7 p.m. CST for a chance to win signed paperbacks, t-shirts, audiobooks, ebooks, the Athena locket, and other fun prizes! You can join here.

Together with a mysterious and gorgeous guy who’s moved in while his parents are away, and a hot, popular guy from school, Dominique must seek clues to her past if she’s to survive. EXCERPT
The image of blue sky, white sand, and calm waters popped into my mind, edging out the fear and panic that had taken over me.
My body slipped to the ground. My knees sank into the cool, pebbly sand. A soft breeze flowed through my hair. Farrell stood beside me at the water’s edge, staring out at the still water. He extended his arm and helped me to my feet. I brushed
myself off, recalling the terror and pain I had just left behind in the red desert. I patted my chest.
“Am I really here?”
“No,” Farrell said sadly. “Only your mind is here.”
“Farrell, am I—?” I paused, not wanting to say the words, as if keeping them to myself would change my fate. “Am I dying?”
“Yes.” He took my hand. “There’s nothing I can do.” His calmness filtered into me. And for a minute there, death didn’t seem so bad.
My attention turned to a bird in the distance that soared through the cloudless sky. For eight lifetimes now I had died, and this was my last time. The world would never be the same, and it was my fault.
Farrell squeezed my hand. “Remember what I said? The last time we were here?”
Of course I remembered. “You told me the end is not yet written, and to trust myself.”
The bird, a white Egret, flew closer and glided right over us, wings outstretched. A lone, feather escaped its plumage. The delicate quill drifted back and forth in the sky. Just like the feather from my dreams and the feather Ms. Ryken had given
me that I had later seen at Jan’s. And then it dawned on me that it was the same color as Farrell’s aura. I extended my hand, reaching out for it. When it touched my palm, it disappeared.
Like flipping a switch, I was back in the desert. Heat exploded inside me. The air in my lungs had almost emptied. Warm, thick blood dripped from my fingers. Farrell and Trent were on the other side of Tavion’s dark energy force, and I was still inside, barely alive. Tavion continued to lift me at my throat, squeezing the life out of me.
“Dominique! Fight!” Trent yelled.

Rose Garcia is a lawyer turned writer who’s always been fascinated by science fiction and fantasy. From a very young age, she often had her nose buried in books about other-worlds, fantastical creatures, and life and death situations. Fueled by her imagination, she created The Transhuman Chronicles–a series of books about people who have overcome human limitations.

The Gatekeeper’s Sons Portuguese Translation
If you follow me on Facebook, then you may have already heard my exciting news about The Gatekeeper’s Sons. It’s been translated by Elaine Moreira into Portuguese and is now available at five major retailers: Kobo, inktera, Scribd, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks!
Check out the cover and blurb:
Therese, uma garota de quinze anos, assiste à morte dos próprios pais. Durante o coma, ela conhece os dois filhos de Hades – Hipnos, o deus do sono, e Tânatos, o deus da morte. Ela acredita estar manipulando um sonho, então beija o deus da morte e chacoalha de vez o mundo dele.
Tân faz um acordo com Hades e vai ao Mundo Superior como humano para tentar conquistar o coração de Therese, mas nem todos os deuses ficam contentes com isso. Alguns oferecem presentes a Therese. Outros tentam matá-la.
O acordo exige que Therese vingue a morte de seus pais. Com a ajuda das ferozes e exóticas irmãs de Tân, as Fúrias, ela se vê cara a cara com o assassino numa arena em que apenas um sobreviverá.
I am so excited!
It is also being translated into Spanish and Italian. I’ll be sure to keep you posted.
The Portuguese translator has expressed interest in working on the rest of the series. Fingers crossed it all works out!
Oh, one more thing! TWO of the Happy Winter Solstice cards from the gods of Mount Olympus, which I sent to newsletter subscribers who included their mailing addresses, were returned because of an incorrect address. Don’t forget to update your address if you move.
The January issue will be sent out on the 26th, so keep an eye out for it in your inbox. Be sure to look for another special surprise gift from Eva Pohler Books! I will also have some exciting news to share!
If you aren’t subscribed to The Pohler Express, you can do so on the right side of this page. I won’t overload your inbox. I only send it once a month, and there’s ALWAYS a gift of some kind. I hope you’ll join!

The Gatekeeper’s Sons Receives Its 1000th Rating!
Today is an exciting day for me, because my very first book, The Gatekeeper’s Sons, the first of six in The Gatekeeper’s Saga, just received its 1000th rating on Goodreads!
And you want to know something funny? I check my Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon pages every day for new ratings and reviews, just like I did when I was first published.
Because ratings and reviews mean more to me than money.
Not that I don’t love the money, lol!
And I have a feeling I’m not the only author who feels this way.
Unfortunately, less than one in a hundred people leave a rating or review. It might be because they think they have to write something long and detailed. Heck, a few words are enough for me. Here are some of my favorite one-line reviews:
“I absolutely loved it! :)”–Kerri Simpson
“I really enjoyed this read and I’m recommending it to my teenagers”–Becky Vitali
“Fabulous, can’t wait to continue the story”–Paula Lyons
“Loved this book!!!”–Shellene
“This series is addicting!”–Janie
And then there are also reviews of a few sentences that I love:
“mythology! I adored The Gatekeeper’s Son. I read it in one sit down, little under 7 hours. I was completely enthralled with the story. definitely a pick up, and good read!!”–Amazon Customer
“This is such an incredible story. I am a huge mythology fan and this book is amazing. I cannot wait to see what comes next!”–Flight of Destiny
“Absolutely adored this book! Completely refreshing in the way the Greek Gods were introduced. I’m going to go download the next installment right away!”–Kathleen Perez
Of course, the longer reviews are much appreciated. Here’s one of my favorites:
“This is one of the best modern/mythology mixed books I have read in a long time. It can almost make a girl paranoid enough to believe that the ancient Greek gods are alive and real. It is very different from Riordan’s Percy Jackson series where it is more fantasy than reality. The Gatekeeper’s Sons brings the ancient gods into a normal, modern girl’s life through the occurrence of an unfortunate event. The protagonist quickly becomes embroiled into the intricacies of the Greek gods with her as the unknowing catalyst.”–Jessica
These are just a few of my favorites. Thank you, Gatekeeper’s Saga fans!
If you’ve recently read a good book, the best way to thank an author is to leave a review–long or short makes little difference.

Have You Seen These Videos Yet?
How many of you are active in the Youtube community? Do you vlog?
I’m thinking about getting more involved.
I’ve already experimented with a few book trailers. I took each of them in a different direction, hoping to figure out what appeals most to viewers and readers.
With The Gatekeeper’s House Book Trailer, I bought a song from my niece’s band and created a kind of slow, emotional, romantic visual story. Although I like it, I worry it might be too long.
I tried something different with The Gatekeeper’s Secret Book Trailer. I made it faster and more action-packed, without losing the romantic element.
By the time I created The Purgatorium Book Trailer, I became better at more economically telling a story with video. It really is an art that takes practice.
I wanted to do something completely different with Ancient Gods, Modern Times: The Gatekeeper’s Saga. You might recognize some of the same images from the other videos. I was trying to carry the brand of the Gatekeeper trailer videos to this vlogging/self-interview style. This is the kind of video I would like to continue to produce on my channel. I hope to focus each vlog around a particular myth or being from Greek mythology.
I’d love to hear any thoughts or advice you have to offer!

Happy New Year! What’s Your Wish?
Some of you have been with me for a long time, and others of you have recently joined. Well, welcome newcomers! And Happy New Year to all of you!
I’d love to know if you have a New Year’s resolution, wish, or dream.
My simple New Year’s wish for you is this: May your reading device ever be charged and loaded with amazing books, and may you have all the time in the world to read them!
My more complicated New Year’s wish for you is this: May you never feel the violation and injustice of thieves breaking into the sanctity of your home and stealing your things. This happened to my sister and her girls over the holidays, and it was devastating, especially because she’s a single mom and doesn’t have much, and the things that were taken were either brand new gifts or things they had saved for a long time to buy–like my niece’s electric guitar and amplifier.
I hope you and your family and your home will be blessed and guarded.
My simple New Year’s wish for myself is that more and more readers will find my books and love them as much as I do.
My more complicated New Year’s wish for myself is that I find a way to strike a balance in my life. I read and write obsessively and need to take time out to exercise and spend quality time with the people I love.
In case you are just now joining us, I want to make sure you know that the first book of The Gatekeeper’s Saga is free where all ebooks are sold. You can download it from your favorite retailer by clicking on the book to the left.
I also want to make sure you know that The Purgatorium has been reduced to 99 cents in anticipation of the release of the third and final book in that series (which comes out on February 25th). You can click on the image to your right to find your favorite retailer.
Finally, my most recent release, Vampire Addiction: The Vampires of Athens, can be purchased for 2.99 where all ebooks are sold. Click below to choose your retailer.
I almost forgot: If you recently joined us, you might also like to subscribe to my monthly newsletter, The Pohler Express, where there’s almost always a coupon, gift, or preview.
Once again, Happy New Year!!! I hope 2015 is fabulous for you in every way!!! What is your New Year’s Wish?

Happy Holidays!
I hope you are all enjoying the holiday season, either snuggled up with a good book or sharing time with family and friends. I spent the past few days with family and have truly enjoyed their company. And my hubby and kids really outdid themselves this year with their gifts.
My son Travis remembers that when I was little, I used to pretend that the tree in my backyard was a giraffe, and we’d go on adventures together. So Travis painted me this giraffe tree.
Candace knows how much I love to read, so she made me a case for my kindle. On the outside, it looks like a book, and then you open it to find the kindle fitting securely inside.
My hubby bought me a charm bracelet from James Avery, and each kid picked out a symbolic charm. Since Mason is studying to become an aerospace engineer, he chose a space shuttle. Travis chose a pine cone, because when he was little, he used to collect them for me. And Candace, who loves to sew, chose a thimble.
As you probably noticed, I sent my newsletter out three times on the same day. That’s because I really messed up. I didn’t realize you couldn’t pre-order directly from Smashwords, and here I’d given you all a holiday gift: a coupon to pre-order Vampire Addiction: The Vampires of Athens, Book One for free from Smashwords. Several of you wrote to me, saying that it didn’t work. So I sent a second newlsetter explaining that you’d have to wait until January 1st. But that didn’t feel right to me. What kind of a holiday gift was that? So I decided to release Vampire Addiction early and sent out a third newsletter, letting you know you could use the coupon to get your copy of the book for FREE before January 1st.
One reader read it that very day and gave it a five star review:
Ann rated it 5 of 5 stars
I absolutely LOVED this book!!! I highly recommend giving it a read!!! Miss Pohler is absolutely BRILLIANT!!!
In case you didn’t open the Pohler Express the third time (I wouldn’t blame you!) here it is, with instructions on how to get your free book: Holiday Newsletter.
