Jingle Bell Book Hop!
You just gotta love a blog hop where EVERY commenter wins on EVERY blog!
Welcome to the Jingle Bell Book Hop.
Visit and comment (with your name and email address) on each blog listed below to win a free ebook from each participating author. AND enter the rafflecopter giveaway at the bottom of this page for a chance to win one of two KINDLE FIRE HD’s!
WHAT BOOK DO YOU WIN HERE? Since The Gatekeeper’s Sons is already free, I’m giving away The Purgatorium.
These happen to be two radically different books. The Gatekeeper’s Sons is about a teen who becomes entangled with the gods of Mount Olympus when one of them falls in love with her. Some gods give her magical gifts. Others try to kill her. This is the first in a six-book saga that reviewers are calling “addicting.” (All six books are out!)
The Purgatorium is about an experimental psychologist, an island, and a teen who wants to die. If you enjoy suspense and emotional rollercoasters, you won’t want to put this one down. Reviewers write that this “unpredictable” and “spine-chilling suspense” grips you “from the first page.” (The first two books are out, and the third and final book releases February 25th.)
So after you comment below with your name and email address, be sure to enter the rafflecopter and then hop on over to these other amazing blogs to claim MORE FREE BOOKS!

Five Ways I Overcome Writer’s Block
One of the most popular questions I get asked is how I overcome writer’s block. I don’t know why I’m asked it, because I seldom suffer from it. So far in my life, I haven’t been able to write books as fast as I think of them.
So I don’t always suffer from it, but when I do…
1. I take a shower. A hot shower relaxes me, and I suppose this is why so many new ideas are born there. I’m not exaggerating. I get tons of ideas for my stories while I’m taking a shower.
2. I lie down and ALMOST fall asleep, but not quite. Being in that twilight zone between wakefulness and sleep seems to generate creative thought. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve started to go to sleep and then have had to jump out of bed to write down an idea. So, if I get writer’s block during the day, I go lie down, like I’m going to take a nap. Works every time (unless I fall asleep, lol).
3. I go for a walk. Getting the blood flowing back up to my brain might be the reason why so many ideas come to me as I’m walking. Maybe it’s the fresh air.
4. I research online. I especially find it helpful when I research the setting I plan to use in the story. So many ideas come from learning more about a specific place. Or sometimes I research the ancient myths, and BOOM!
5. I start writing. When I can’t think of what the next scene should be, I just dump my character into the middle of some action and go with it and am often taken to some really unexpected and exciting places.
What things do you do to overcome writer’s block?

Tuesday Time Warp: Back to UtopYA Con 2013
After years of rejections from agents, I took the plunge to self publish in August of 2012. I found a professional cover artist and editor and assembled my own team. I hit “publish” on Smashwords and KDP. Then I watched my dashboards. Nothing happened!
Then in June of 2013, I attended UtopYA Con.
I learned so many useful strategies from successful authors who had taken their careers into their own hands and had decided to forge their own destinies. I took careful notes and went home and applied everything I learned. Within a few days, my life changed!
My Amazon author rank increased:
My sales increased:
I now make as much money, if not more, in royalties as I do in my day job as a college instructor. My plan is to become a full-time writer in five years.
Going to UtopYA Con was one of the BEST things that’s ever happened to me. I would rate it up there with some major life-changers. Here are my top five:
1. Finding my awesome hubby
2. Giving birth to my three beautiful children
3. Going to UtopYA Con
4. Having Lasik Surgery
5. Having a hysterectomy and saying goodbye to periods forever
As you can see, UtopYA Con is pretty important to me! In addition to being a total career-changer, I made some dear friends that I can’t imagine not having in my life. I went back last year and made even more!

Karaoke night at UtopYA Con 2014
I will keep going to UtopYA Con for as long as I can. Going back is like visiting the place of my birth. That’s how I feel!

If you are going to UtopYA Con for the first time next year, you have SO much to look forward to!
