Barb’s Italian Summer #12: Beautiful And Wordless Rome

“I need my morning bad news fix,

and the darn newspaper just won’t open!”

(By the way, this picture clearly shows

who is Italian and who is an American tourist.

Perfect jeans, a spotless shirt,

wonderful shoes…

Versus shorts and sandals.

Come on, guys, will you never learn?

I won’t stop teasing you about it

until you do! :) )

Barb’s Italian Summer #11: Spoiled Rotten At Hotel La Russie

La Russie, as every noble traveler knows, is one of the most magnificent hotels in Rome. Located in my neighborhood in Via Babuino, just between the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo, it’s a perfect place to escape the bustle of the big city and enjoy a day of luxurious pampering.

You don’t need to stay at La Russie to enjoy its high-class atmosphere, delicious spa and excellent cuisine. You can become a princess just for one day, forget your real life, and let La Russie take you to the fair...

Milan, Italy: The Dark Secrets Of Piazza Vetra And Its Rebirth

Every city has a place connected to a piece of history that the citizens are not really proud of. Piazza Vetra is the dark spot of Milan that has found its light only recently, in 21st century.

Piazza Vetra is a large, green space close to the church of San Lorenzo. It has always been the greenest area in the city, thanks to the sewer that used to run right across the square, making the whole area very wet (and stinky).

In Middle Ages, inquisition chose Piazza Vetra for the most horrendous acts...

(Travel) Writer’s Diary: Your True Success Compass

Recently, I have found myself in a very special space, that I personally called “accelerated expansion“. I have so many new ideas that I can’t write fast enough to put them down on paper. And I’ve been extremely sensitive to those things that don’t make me happy anymore. It feels like my body is cooperating with my soul, making it physically very difficult to do everything that may be called joyless.

When I do what I love (writing, blogging, book marketing, photography, hosting my radio show…)...

Barb’s Italian Summer #10: Beautiful & Wordless Rome

The horses on Piazza di Spagna have fallen in love with me.

Each time I walk by, they want to follow me.

Their owners don’t get it -

they swear they have never seen anything like it.

Well, I guess the horses in Rome just

recognize a horse lover when they see (and smell) one.

I miss horseback riding!

I guess it’s time to venture

out of the city and find myself

a nice farm with stables

under the Tuscan sun.

Barb’s Italian Summer #8: Piazza Barberini And Fontana Del Tritone In Rome

Today I would like to take you to Piazza Barberini with its beautiful Fontana del Tritone (Triton Fountain). The Triton Fountain was created in 17th century by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, a very famous Baroque sculptor whose work you can find all around Rome. Sea god Triton kneels majestically in the middle of the fountain on four dolphin tails, raising a big conch to his lips. Tritone was the first fountain built by Bernini in Rome, and at that time it was a very innovative deed: It was the first...

Chique Book Tour 2012: What Makes A Good Travel Writer?

Having wonderful and fabulously talented fellow writers in my life has been a real blessing. Patricia Sands is one of them, and this week I have visited her fantastic blog to talk about travel writer’s life. I have revealed what travel writer’s life is like (at least my travel writer’s life :) ), and I have shared five foundational pieces that make a good travel writer (and, as one of Patricia’s lovely readers mentioned, a good writer in general). Please visit Patricia’s blog to read the whole...
