Aldi’s New Summery Treat Is Flying Off Shelves Fast at Just $4 Each

Aldi’s frozen treat aisle is literally bursting at the seams with delicious goodies. From nostalgic ice cream flavors to fruit bars to creamy sorbets, they are bound and determined to keep us cool and refreshed, all summer long.

We are also a fan of mini desserts, because sometimes you just need to savor a small morsel of something sweet. That’s where Sundae Shoppe Tiny Cones come in handy. At $3.99 for a 12-count box, this is one sweet find we could see ourselves clearing out space in the freezer for.

Want trending news, op-eds, and top stories straight to your inbox? Sign up for our Daily newsletter.

Aldi Sundae Shoppe Tiny Cones

Aldi

These mini treats come in three classic flavors: vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. The vanilla cone is drizzled with chocolate and sprinkled with hazelnut pieces. Chocolate is adorned with chocolate confectionery and milk chocolate curls. And the strawberry features strawberry ice cream with strawberry sauce poured on top.

Each miniature cone appears to be chocolate-dipped, taking the entire eating experience to the next level.

Related Story: These Summer Edition Chocolate Flavors Are Flying Off the Shelves at Aldi

Tiny Cones differ from the popular Sundae Shoppe Mini Ice Cream Cones sold at Aldi, which are mini waffle cones filled with vanilla ice cream dipped in a chocolate coating. Also delicious, but we love that Tiny Cones come in three flavors.

“These are great.” one Facebook follower said. “I am obsessed with the tiny ice cream cones!” exclaimed a Tik Tok poster. “So good”, said another.

Some social media users claimed their stores were out of the tiny cones, which leads us to believe people are buying them left and right.

We think these treats are perfect for kids’ summer birthday parties, to enjoy after a hard day of working outside, or really any time of day. Our only wish is Aldi would create a variety box for when it’s simply too difficult to choose.

Tiny cones are a limited-time item, so they won’t be around for long.

Legendary High School Football Coach Dead at 83 Years Old

A legendary high school football coach from the state of Georgia has died at the age of 83.

Thomas "T" McFerrin has died after a lengthy illness. He won two state championships and over 340 games during his career, and McFerrin also led seven different schools to regional championships.

He remains the only coach in the history of Georgia high school football to take four different teams to the state finals.

McFerrin played defensive back at Murfreesboro High in Tennessee and began his college football career at Millsaps College. He would later transfer to Middle Tennessee, where he earned a degree in history while also lettering in tennis.

He also earned a master's degree in history at Florida State University before beginning his coaching career. McFerrin's first head coaching position was at Lithonia High School in 1968. He took them from 1-9 to 8-1-1 in his first season, setting a standard for the work he would accomplish later in his career.

Peachtree, Tucker, Elbert County, South Gwinnett, and Jefferson High Schools were among the teams he coached, and McFerrin helped lead all of them to state or regional glory after taking over dormant programs.

McFerrin would win his first Georgia state title in 1995 with Elbert County, and he won his final title in 2012 with Jefferson for his final season. Both instances were the school's first state championship.

"Georgia’s greatest high school football coach was about far more than just winning games. The life lessons he taught will live on through the thousands of people who had the privilege of knowing and learning from him," Jefferson High said in a statement about McFerrin.

McFerrin had a 341-101-4 record for his entire career, and he's been inducted into the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association and Georgia Sports Halls of Fame after retirement.

In addition to football, McFerrin also coached tennis, wrestling, volleyball while assisting in both basketball and baseball.

"Coach McFerrin was a legend, both throughout Georgia and in the field of high school athletics," said Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.

"His impact will not only live on through his incredible record, but even more so through the generations of athletes who stepped off of his field as better men because of his influence. Marty, the girls, and I are praying for his loved ones during this time of mourning."

Rest in peace to Coach T. McFerrin. Our condolences are with his family, friends, loved ones and former players during this difficult time.

Simple Hack Used By Experts Can Be Game Changer For Runners

Chasing a PR during your next race? One small change can help keep you on track toward reaching your running goals, new research suggests.

According to the New York Post, a recent study centered around 1,590 runners tried to figure out how they optimize performance during a race or a workout run.

It specifically looked into what is known as visual attention, keying in on what those runners focused on while on a run.

After surveying the test subjects, the study discovered that narrowing one's visual attention, described as "zooming in on the finish rather than taking in the surroundings," was a common denominator among those looking to run more efficiently.

“Looking at one spot ahead of you—rather than around you—can help you keep going,” said NYU professor Emily Balcetis, the lead author of the paper.

“By increasingly narrowing attention as a runner moves from earlier to later stages of a run or race—like locking in on a target, then finding another after you pass the first, and eventually the finish line—they run faster, raise their heart rate, and perform better.”

Respondents categorized as "experts" or "faster" runners were found to use the narrowing strategy far more often than those labeled as "novice" or "slower" runners.

Researchers later conducted an experiment in an attempt to confirm their survey findings.

The experiment had participants run one of two distances: 400 meters or one mile. The team then divided the participants into two camps, asking one group to widen their focus during the run and the other to narrow it down.

The results showed that those who ran with a narrowed gaze ran at a faster pace than those who didn't. The narrowed group also exerted more effort, which the experiment measured using heart rate.

The advice apparently applies to those who love a good walk, too.

Balcetis co-authored a study in 2014 that looked into a similar topic assessing walkers rather than runners.

The findings were similar, noting that those who locked in on a target during a walk made the exercise feel less daunting and had a shortening effect on how respondents viewed the distance ahead.

Of course, this method won't ever replace adequate preparation. But for those looking for an edge during a race or even just a boost on Strava, a little bit of extra focus goes a long way.

Flavio Cobolli Is Dating Longtime Girlfriend Matilde Galli

Italian tennis pro Flavio Cobolli is playing legend Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon on July 9.

That has some fans wondering whether Cobolli is married, and whether he has a wife or girlfriend. He has a long-time girlfriend named Matilde Galli.

In July 2024, he shared a series photos of them together on his Instagram page and wrote, "Growing up together." The photo collage also contained individual pictures of Cobolli's girlfriend as well as a video showing them walking together while he held a tennis bag.

"Beautiful couple," a fan wrote on the comment thread. "So sweet," wrote another. Cobolli doesn't share photos of his girlfriend much. His recent photos mostly show him playing tennis.

The Italian language site Corriere emphasized that Cobolli and Galli are “young but also reserved. On social media, Flavio Cobolli does not publish many photos of his private life with his Matilde Galli.”

There isn’t much information about her, the site says, noting that her social media profile is private.

The site noted that it’s unclear when exactly they started dating, although some peg it at around 2021.

However, after playing at the French Open, he said, according to Corriere, “My whole family came here to Paris. It’s very nice to play in front of those who love you. The only thing missing is my girlfriend Matilde, who has to take some exams.”

In November 2022, though, he posted a video showing them kissing on his birthday and wrote, "The best is yet to come."

This New Energy Report Has Experts Sounding the Alarm On Looming Blackouts

A new report from the U.S. Department of Energy has ignited serious concern among energy officials, grid operators, and policy experts. The headline takeaway: Americans could soon face more than 800 hours of power outages annually, nearly a full month without electricity, as the country’s demand soars and reliable power sources retire faster than they’re replaced.

The alarming forecast comes amid a surge in energy use driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and data centers, which already consume about 4 percent of the nation’s electricity. That figure could more than double by 2030.

At the same time, coal, gas, and nuclear plants are being decommissioned at a pace that threatens to destabilize the power grid.

“We’re seeing demand growth like we haven’t seen in decades, and our infrastructure is not being built fast enough to keep up,” said John Moura of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, the Daily Mail reported.

The DOE warns that unless major shifts happen soon, including slowing the retirement of base-load plants and increasing around-the-clock capacity, the U.S. grid could face a 100-fold increase in blackout hours within the next five years. And even if no additional plants shut down, some regions are still on track to see a 34-fold spike in outages.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright called for a strategy of “energy addition,” advocating for expanded investment across all energy sources that are “affordable, reliable, and secure.”

That includes coal, gas, and even the controversial revival of shuttered nuclear facilities like Three Mile Island.

Critics argue the report downplays progress made in renewables and battery storage. “Regions like Texas have shown that solar and wind, paired with batteries, can improve reliability while lowering costs,” said Caitlin Marquis of Advanced Energy United.

Still, officials say renewables alone won’t be enough in the near term.

Only 22 of the 209 gigawatts of new power expected by 2030 will come from always-available sources like gas or nuclear, far short of what’s needed to replace the 104 gigawatts of reliable generation set to retire.

This isn’t the first time grid fragility has come into focus. The 2021 Texas freeze left millions without power. And New York’s 2019 blackout plunged Times Square into darkness.

With demand only growing, the urgency is clear. The grid is under pressure, and this time, experts are sounding the alarm before the lights go out.

'Superman' Fans Speak out as Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes Critics Clash Over Reviews

On Monday night, July 7, the highly anticipated James Gunn-directed Superman movie began making waves on social media. Not only was the film itself rapidly picking up steam, but David Corenswet and Gunn were also popular mentions among moviegoers.

And for any fans who didn't happen to check in on the new Superman movie and Corenswet's debut as the iconic superhero, there was a whole lot of praise and limited negativity for those who caught an early showing.

While Superman doesn't officially hit theaters until July 11, several critics and others attended early viewings beginning on Monday night. However, as fans raved over Corenswet's performance and the film Gunn has thrown immense hype behind, two of the top critic review sites initially had an interesting gap and a few differing viewpoints.

As of Tuesday night, Rotten Tomatoes has dubbed Superman as certified fresh, with 140 critic reviews and an impressive 86 percent score.

While Metacritic had tallied far fewer critic reviews thus far, with 42, Superman landed 71 percent (30 votes) as "positive," with the other 12 checking in as mixed. That's certainly far from painfully negative, obviously, but it's worth noting that only eight of the reviews checked in at or above the 86 percent mark.

Now, in all fairness, the obvious has to be stated when evaluating the reviews of Superman. These are very early, and there'll be a plethora of additional feedback in the coming week.

Regardless of how you chalk up the early reviews, it was still the fans who made their mark in that category when discussing the newest DC movie. The first reactions from early viewers of Superman were enough to pique the interest of any movie lover.

"#Superman made me believe that a man can fly again ... All due respect to '78, this is the greatest Superman movie of all time," said one viewer.

"#Superman is a tear-jerking, beautiful start for the DC Universe. It has never felt more like a comic book than this. Corenswet is the perfect Superman, Brosnahan gets the spotlight really well as Lois, and Lex Luthor is a MENACE," read one incredibly strong review.

"#Superman is everything I wanted it to be, & a million things more. It is truly awe-inspiring, both as a DC fan who has longed to see this universe onscreen in such a loving & unique way, & just as a hopeful person," read another rave review.

"James Gunn’s SUPERMAN is the comic book movie I’ve been waiting to see for decades," said one fan.

"Superman is a living, breathing DC comic book come to life, blending James Gunn’s trademark quirkiness with the earnestness of the Donner films. It’s perfectly cast— Corenswet feels like #Superman peeled off the page while Nicholas Hoult steals almost every scene he’s in," raved another fan.

Those are just a few of the comments from Superman and DC fans about the newest Man of Steel film, with many more echoing similar sentiments and offering high praise.

Massive Kraft Heinz Recall Raises Alarm Over Hidden Food Risk

Kraft Heinz has issued a massive recall of more than 367,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon over fears of Listeria contamination—a serious foodborne threat that can lead to hospitalization and even death.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the fully cooked turkey bacon was produced between April 24 and June 11, 2025. The potentially contaminated products were distributed nationwide and also shipped to the British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong.

The affected items include:

12-oz. vacuum-sealed packages with UPC "071871548601," dated between July 18 and August 2 with lot code “RS40” 36-oz. packages (three 12-oz. packs) with UPC “071871548748,” dated July 23 to September 4 and lot codes “RS19,” “RS40,” or “RS42” 48-oz. packages (four 12-oz. packs) with UPC "071871548793,” dated July 18 to September 4 and lot codes "RS19," "RS40," or "RS42"

No illnesses have been reported to date, but FSIS warned that the products could still be sitting in home refrigerators or freezers. Consumers are urged not to eat the recalled turkey bacon and to either throw it away or return it to the store where it was purchased.

Listeria monocytogenes, the contaminant in question, is a resilient bacteria that can grow even at refrigerated temperatures.

Infections can cause serious illness, particularly for pregnant women, newborns, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may appear anywhere from a few hours to two months after consuming contaminated food and can include fever, muscle aches, headaches, and gastrointestinal distress.

The contamination was discovered through routine internal testing by Kraft Heinz. While no adverse reactions have been linked to the recalled products, FSIS is encouraging anyone concerned about potential illness to seek medical attention.

This recall adds to growing concern over food safety after reports showed a spike in U.S. food recalls and hospitalizations linked to contaminated products in 2024. It also places renewed pressure on major brands like Kraft Heinz to strengthen safety protocols and maintain public trust as consumer scrutiny over labeling and contamination risks intensifies.

You Can Now Buy a Barbie With a Chronic Disease

Barbie. Once synonymous with long legs, long blonde hair, and Malibu, now has type 1 diabetes.

Mattel, Inc. announced on July 8 that it would debut the first Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes.

Doing so "enables more children to see themselves reflected in Barbie and encourages doll play that extends beyond a child’s own lived experience," according to the company.

“Introducing a Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes marks an important step in our commitment to inclusivity and representation,” Krista Berger, senior vice president of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls, said in the statement. “Barbie helps shape children’s early perceptions of the world, and by reflecting medical conditions like T1D, we ensure more kids can see themselves in the stories they imagine and the dolls they love.”

According to the American Diabetes Association, about 304,000 children in the United States had type 1 diabetes in 2021. That's about 0.1 percent of the population under the age of 20.

Barbie is partnering with Breakthrough T1D (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), a type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization, to create the doll.

Media photos show Barbie wearing a blue polka dot jumper. And also sporting a Continuous Glucose Monitor on her arm to help manage her type 1 diabetes.

Barbie also has an insulin pump attached to her waist. And a purse to carry all of her type 1 diabetes supplies and snacks.

Type 1 diabetes, a chronic condition where the body doesn't make any or enough insulin.

“We were thrilled when Barbie approached us to collaborate on the development of the Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes,” Aaron J. Kowalski, CEO of Breakthrough T1D, said in a statement

Kowalski said he has lived with type 1 diabetes since he was 13, so the partnership with Mattel is personal.

"It’s an honor to work with a brand that shares our commitment to showing children that a life with type 1 diabetes can be full, vibrant, and empowering," Kowalski said.

Who Sings 'Punkrocker?' That 'Superman' Ending Song, Explained

In one early scene in Superman, Clark Kent (David Corenswet) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) argue about what makes a person truly punk rock. Is it liking the right bands, or is it doing something that nobody else will dare to do? Clark asserts that he is actually punk rock because caring and being a good person are punk rock qualities. And so, at the end of the movie, Superman revels in his goofy niceness as the 2006 song "Punkrocker" plays over the end credits.

If you missed this song, it comes from the Swedish band Teddybears, who are an electronic post-punk band that has been making music since 1991. The version of "Punkrocker" that plays at the end of Superman is actually Teddybears' second version of the song and features true punk legend Iggy Pop on lead vocals.

Related: 'Superman' Has a Secret Plot, a Massive Cast, and a Fast-Approaching Release Date

The first version of the song was on the Teddybears 2000 album Rock’n’Roll Highschool. But the 2006 version, which they re-recorded with Pop's vocal track, is on their better-known album, Soft Machine.

Not truly a punk song at all, the dancey, upbeat "Punkrocker" is one of those great anthems that often appeared on mix CDs in the mid-aughts. If David Corenswet's Superman is meant to represent a younger version of the character, then, in a sense, "Punkrocker" is a throwback track. It's also a song that perfectly suits director James Gunn's style, and will stay in your head for weeks.

Superman is out in limited release now. The movie hits theaters in wide release on July 11
