Help Fund Cincinatti’s Dalek Con East 2014
Rebecca Crockett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
There are a few well-known Doctor Who focused conventions in the US – Gallifrey One in Los Angles has been held annually for the last 25 years, Chicago TARDIS has gone on for the last 15 years.
A new group is seeking to create a Doctor Who convention for the East Coast US area and is looking to the fans all across the country to join together to get this new convention off the ground – out of the planning stages and time vortex and into reality!
Dalek Con East has launched a Kickstarter campaign fund Cincinnati, Ohio’s fist ever Doctor Who convention. Tentatively scheduled for 18-19 October, 2014, there are already a few confirmed guests for the convention, should it be funded by the end of the Kickstarter – Robert Allsop, a creature designer for Doctor Who, Kelly Yates, a former IDW Doctor Who artist, and the Steampunk Time Lord rock band the Ken Spivey Band.
Kasterborous is pleased to exclusively announce that should the convention Kickstarter goal be met, the one and only Captain Jack Harkness, John Barrowman, will be attending the convention!
To find out more about the plans for Dalek Con East 2014, check out all their Facebook and Twitter profiles and head on over to the Kickstarter to pledge your contribution to make this convention happen! The more contributions the better the convention will be! Get involved now!

STOP PRESS: Matt Smith Joins Terminator Trilogy!
Philip Bates is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
It sounds like our beloved Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, is starting to conquer Hollywood: he’s been cast in the upcoming Terminator trilogy!
Matt is set to make his debut as a new character who has strong connections with John Connor in Terminator: Genesis, to be released on 1st July 2015 – and his role will be expanded in the further two movies.
Directed by Alan Taylor and written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, Terminator: Genesis also sees the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger, alongside Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.
Here’s the full press release:
HOLLYWOOD, CA (May 2, 2014) – Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions announced today that “Doctor Who” star Matt Smith will join the cast of the upcoming “TERMINATOR” reboot.
Smith will play a new character with a strong connection to John Connor, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.
Alan Taylor is directing the film from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. David Ellison and Dana Goldberg of Skydance Productions are producing. Skydance’s Paul Schwake, Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison, Kalogridis and Lussier are executive producing.
Smith is best known for playing The Doctor on the popular “Doctor Who” television series during the 2011-2103 seasons. His other television credits include “Christopher and His Kind,” “Moses Jones,” and “The Street.” He can be seen next on the big screen in “LOST RIVER,” directed by Ryan Gosling, alongside Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes.
He is represented by United Talent Agency and Michael Duff at Troika.
The “TERMINATOR” franchise launched in 1984 with Schwarzenegger as the title character and spanned three subsequent films, which have earned more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Paramount will distribute the film worldwide on July 1, 2015.
Matt’s had his eye on Hollywood for a while, of course – all the way back in 2010, he said:
Why the hell not? I could do with a bit of poolside. I’d take my mum – she’d love it.
But since then, he told the Metro that he might have to take the slow path:
I try not to take on any pressure. Take each job as it comes and if it takes me twenty years or thirty years or fifty years, hopefully I will get there in the end.
And there have been rumblings of him even starring in Star Wars: Episode VII, though this is becoming less likely by the day, sadly.
We’re all proud of you, Matt. Don’t forget about us Whovians, Raggedy Man…!

Eve Myles Remains Hopeful for Torchwood Series 5
Alex Skerratt is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Poor Torchwood – out there, lost in the time vortex, not knowing whether it’s coming or going, or been! Given that its last season ended on something of a cliffhanger, (well, several cliffhangers, in a way), is there any chance that it could rematerialise at some point in the future?
Torchwood star Eve Myles, who played feisty Gwen Cooper throughout the entire run, is still hopeful that a few more episodes will fall through the rift. Speaking at the recent C2E2 event in Chicago, Myles said that everyone was “keeping [their] fingers crossed”, adding that a new season would be “a really complicated, kind of really huge, huge thing to put together.”
But all things are possible, and time can be rewritten! Just what would Gwen Cooper be up to in 2014? Myles speculated that she would still be “shooting things, probably helicopters out of the sky”, and “trying to keep the world safe, juggling a husband, juggling John Barrowman”, noting that “juggling John in any sense” was something of a challenge!
What do we think, Kasterborites? Has Torchwood had its day? Or is there life in the old Weevil yet?

Can YOU Watch All 71 Peter Davison Doctor Who Episodes At Once?
Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
YouTube relects all that is both right and wrong in the world. But few videos can be as unmissable as an attempt to watch 71 episodes of Doctor Who ALL AT ONCE!
Every Fifth Doctor episode from Castrovalva through to Caves of Androzani is featured above – just click play to begin the slightly mind-bending experience.
With an echoey theme tune that collapses into a “Day in the Life”-esque cacophony, this is perhaps the ultimate Doctor Who fan experience – well, until all 800-ish episodes are compiled into a similar video….

Eccleston 50th Anniversary Absence “A Difficult Decision”
James Lomond is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
In his regular Doctor Who Magazine column, Steven Moffat has answered a fan’s query on why Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston’s appearance was so short in the 50th anniversary special recenteration.
John Hurt’s War Doctor got two thirds of the way through a regeneration with the suggestion of the Ninth Doctor’s features forming. Moff’s answer was ‘human decency’…
It was one thing to include [Eccleston] among all the other archive Doctors, as they flew in to save the day — in fact, it would have been disgraceful to have left anyone out — but placing him in that scene might have given the impression he’d actually turned up for filming, which would have been crossing the line.
Not taking part in the 50th was a difficult decision for Chris, taken after a lot of thought and with great courtesy, and not respecting his wishes would have been grossly unprofessional and disrespectful to a good man and a great Doctor. Number 9 may not have turned up for the celebrations, but there would have been no party without him.
Diplomacy of the highest caliber. Eccleston’s engagement with the show has been a thorny issue for fans since Tennant took over. He’s been very clear that there were on-set tensions where he felt staff were badly treated. From what’s been reported previously, it sounds like he felt there was a bullying culture such that staying would have compromised his morals!
I find this a bit difficult. Eccleston did a huge amount for the show – and while it was a different beast back in 2005 (burping bins and farting fat-suits), we wouldn’t have seven series without his hard word and deliberately unexpected portrayal of the Ninth Doctor. My difficulties are firstly that he’s the only person to have had a problem with the production’s culture as far as I’m aware – though maybe he’s the only one who’s told it like it is? And secondly I’m sad to say I got the impression he didn’t enjoy himself that much.
I could be completely off here – but Eccleston looked to me like an actor in a part he really didn’t feel comfortable with. Particularly his balancing an audience of both adults and children and the lighter moments which Tennant and Smith seemed so at ease with. Anyhow, whatever his feelings about the show, Moffat is clear that Eccleston’s decision not to take part in the 50th special was an important and considered one. And you can understand that if someone has declined to have their name attached to something, (like the occasional script writer back in the Classic era), it’s out of order for the production to imply that they did take part.
But what do you think? Would a split second more have made any difference? Moff knows this kinda thing matters to fans (cuz we’re weird like that). Could they not have asked him? Or maybe this was the classy way to do things. TV is made by people and they have their own lives and feelings that should be respected. Was this a grudge born too long or professional courtesy in action? Tell us below…

Radio Times Nominated For Cover of the Year!
Rebecca Crockett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
For a very long time, Radio Times has been a great supporter of programmes like Doctor Who and the people that work for the magazine seem to be just as excited as we are when reporting news about the show and what’s going on with the cast.
So it’s nice to see when those reporting efforts are recognized by professional and national organisations.
Radio Times has been nominated for Cover Of The Year by the Professional Publishers Association for their 12-version special issue cover celebrating the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. (Did you notice that all 12 covers make one continuous image?)
The award is given each year to recognise talent, innovation, and excellence in the UK publishing industry. This year, Radio Times is nominated alongside other major names including Country Life, Esquire, and Cosmopolitan.
Best of all, you can help choose who wins! Hop on over to the PPA site to see all the nominations for Cover Of The Year, as well as all the other categories, and vote for your favorite.
Congratulations to Radio Times for the nomination!

The PodKast Asks: What Would Your Doctor Wear?
Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
It’s podKast time, and this week we have a nice long chat about the various looks that the Doctor has had over the years and ask: what would you wear?
Faced with the prospect of chatting about a heckuva lot of Doctor Who news, Christian Cawley and James McLean cope admirably with the onslaught of interesting talking points with their usual irreverence and insight before getting stuck into the issue of time travelling attire in the classic and modern series.
With no Brian Terranova this time around, you’ll probably find that on this occasion his absence is almost unnoticed. After all, it’s a topic that he might have ended up dominating, what with his cosplay tendencies…
Listen out for lots of talk about Jon Pertwee’s waistcoat, Peter Capaldi’s real-life attire and Matt Smith and Benedict Cumberbatch denying interest in each other’s shows. Oh and the recommendations are pretty good too!

CANCELLED: Screening of Tennant’s Richard II In Chicago This Saturday!
Andrew Reynolds is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
We’re sorry to share with you the information that this event has now been cancelled due to technical issues. Below is the original article, but sadly the screening it describes will now no longer go ahead.
Chicagoans! Don’t waste any time (less time doth waste you) as there will be a free screening of Richard II in Chicago on Saturday, May 3 in the Ferguson Lecture Hall, Columbia College in Chicago, IL from 1:00pm – 4:30pm.
Just over a week since William Shakespeare blew all 450 candles out upon his ghost cake, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Richard II, featuring the Tenth Doctor, David Tennant as the titular dick, will be presented by Ultimate-TV in conjunction with DT Forum.
On the role of King Richard, the monarch, ordained by God to lead his people, suffering from some very human weakness of pride and vanity, Tennant added at the time of his casting:
He’s not a hero at all. He’s quite a complicated character. So I’m daunted by the prospect of doing it justice but very excited to get a chance.
In addition to the free presentation there will also be the chance to win a David Tennant Celebration Gift Pack, which includes a Richard II poster and a DVD of Richard II courtesy of FYE.
Richard II, the fastest selling show in the RSC’s history, was filmed live at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon on 13th November 2013; the movie theatre rollout that followed proved to be a major success at the box office.
The screening was also streamed into schools around the UK, broadcast live across several countries and was viewed in hundreds of cinemas around the world in the months of November and December 2013.
To reserve a pair of tickets for the RSC cinematic production of Richard II starring David Tennant, complete the registration form over at Eventbrite.
