The Magic Art of Manifesting Money: Use These Steps to Manifest Anything you Desire!

Hey gorgeous,

I want to share with you how I manifested 6-months paid luxury travel and give you the exact steps I used and lessons I learned so you can apply them to manifest your dreams.

It was advertised as the Ultimate Job in the World. Six months travelling the globe, testing out the most romantic and luxurious honeymoon destinations.

The Irish travel company knew it was an amazing prize but they were unprepared for the interest it would attract from all around the world. It was literally the prize of a lifetime, and more than 30,000 people applied for the chance to travel the world for free.

Inspired by our own 3-week honeymoon and desperate to travel again, my husband, Mark and I, were just two of the hopefuls who submitted an application video for the Ultimate Job. Long story short, we got the job!

Goal Setting to Achieve Your Dreams

Most people can’t believe it. “Wow, you’re so lucky!” and then they ask, “Did you think you were going to win?”. My answer to the first question is “I know!”. My answer to the second changes depending on how much I want to share my beliefs about the Law of Attraction (LoA) and how positive thinking and goal setting has changed my life.

The real and completely honest answer is yes, from the moment I found out about the competition, I knew I was going to win it, and I shared my belief with many people in the lead-up to the final.

I’m not some crazy competition person either. I don’t enter thousands of competitions! This was one of three I’d entered that year and I won them all (but that’s another story).

Create Your Perfect Day

A year before we left on the trip of a lifetime, my then life coach and business mentor asked me to describe my perfect day (a powerful goal setting and LoA technique). I described how I’d wake up in a gorgeous room by the sea in a sunny country, do yoga with Mark, check my laptop periodically during the day and get paid for writing and speaking about my passions.

There was silence. Everyone else in the room smiled, but I could hear them thinking, “Good luck with that!”.

A year later, Mark and I were waking up in luxury hotels all around the world (in mostly very sunny countries). We started the day with yoga and fresh fruit and then we’d go exploring a new and beautiful city, checking our laptops every now and then, and getting paid to write and speak about travel and honeymoons.

Think it’s a coincidence? Think again.

Goal Setting Success

Two months before I even found out about the competition, I found myself increasingly frustrated with my life and desperate for change.

I was itching to go travelling and was dreaming constantly about taking off to explore the world, like many of our friends. However, it seemed like a bad time. We had quite a bit of wedding debt left over, we had a flat and our cats… etc, etc.

Despite all the reasons “why not”, I was ready to do something different.

It was time to get serious about my goals.

An important LoA principle is to get really clear on what you want, so I wrote down my new goals in pretty minute detail. Here’s what I came up with and remember, I still didn’t know about the Ultimate Job competition.

I wanted to…

Take six months off and travel the world with Mark
Get paid £3000 a month, while I was travelling
Be a published author and speaker

I wrote this in my diary daily and on a postcard that I stuck on my window, to look at again and again. I even had a plan about how I was going to do it (the universe just had a different solution in mind).

My idea? Inspired by Four Hour Work Week, I was going to start an internet business and sell ebooks while I travelled the world with Mark. So, I started working on that every day and night; blogging, marketing and keeping my focus on the feeling of being free to travel with Mark.

Working on my Money Mindset

I worked on my dream every day so when this amazing opportunity came along, I recognised it as a nudge from the universe. How serious are you about this?

Not only did the job entail six months luxury travel for both of us, the salary was €20,000 (ie. roughly GB£3,000 per month) and the job came with a daily blog, and a monthly column in the Irish Times newspaper. Tick, tick and tick!

(BTW, I should have specified £3000 after tax and just for me, not the two of us, but the Universe will always give you what you ask for, so be specific!)

But of course, I only attracted the opportunity. We still had to win the damn thing! But don’t you think the knowledge that I manifested the exact, perfect opportunity custom-made for me made me feel confident about the outcome? You bet!

To win the competition, I pulled out every trick in my LoA manifesting handbook. I think I used at least 50 practical and metaphysical techniques to win this competition. It was that important to me and do you think I’d let it get away? No chance! Read more about attracting abundance, even when you’re feeling broke here.

After specifying your goals and writing them down (very important), there’s still a lot more work you can do to influence the outcome. Curious?

FOUR STEPS TO MANIFESTING SUCCESS

Here’s what I did to win…

I pulled out all the stops, and there’s SO MANY I want to share with you, but I’m going to start with four really important ones.

    Build your network by giving

Even though I’m a serious introvert, I’m a pretty good networker online.

For a while, I had been active in business groups, and (this is important), always showed up to GIVE advice and encouragement, but rarely pitched my own stuff.

By activating the Law of Reciprocity, I was already creating a lot of good-will in my community. What you give out, you receive in return.

When the blogging competition came around, I had people around me who were willing to help out by voting, and encourage me, in return for the help I had given them freely.

A supportive community is crucial for manifesting big goals. It’s hard to do it all by yourself.

    Daily Gratitude

The Universe loves an “attitude of gratitude”, because positivity attracts even more good fortune. The opposite is true too, so watch your negative thoughts.

Even before we won the competition, we had plenty to appreciate in our lives. So, we started a gratitude game before we went to bed each night. We both had to say five things we were grateful for, even if we didn’t feel like it.

We started drifting off to sleep in a bliss state every night, already feeling like the luckiest people in the world, instead of stressing about money or our jobs. We were getting ready to receive even more in our life (and boy, were things about to get good!).

    Declutter the practical obstacles

The Universe loves action that moves you closer to your goal, especially if you start to act “as if” your goal is already yours. Forward motion begins a life of its own and before you know it momentum starts to build by itself.

We did as many practical things as possible to let the Universe know we were ready, and to prepare for “when” we won. We wanted to demonstrate that we were serious.

First, we scheduled the trip into our diaries. It’s a small thing, but it made it real for me, and also showed up practical problems I needed to take care of when we won. Notice, I said “when”, not “if”. These little tweaks matter.

For example, the honeymoon job clashed with the wedding of a close friend. Was I prepared to miss it? Yes. I was.

Let me share the most serious and practical action we took, that I’ll guess none of the other contestants were brave enough to do.

Before we even got short-listed into the Top 10 finalists, we started the process of renting out our apartment.

There were only ten days between when the winners were announced and when the job started. So when (not if) we won, it would be too stressful with everything else to do.

So, as an act of faith, we decided to take care of that problem first. We found tenants for our apartment, and kept decluttering our possessions.

Otherwise, it was energetic clutter that was hanging over our heads. Oh, and I told my friend that I couldn’t come to her wedding because I’d be traveling. This is key – it was a definitive “no”, rather than “we might be travelling”.

Because I was going… NO MATTER WHAT. I was willing to go travelling anyway, and this is an important distinction – I wasn’t caught up in winning the competition as the only way. I decided that we were going anyway, and the competition got swept up in my conviction. Do you see the difference?

We even decided to go one step further and gave notice at our jobs.

BEFORE WE WON THE COMPETITION!!

Yes. Ultimate act of faith.

Our bosses thought we were crazy, but honestly, I was going travelling no matter what. Whether it was this competition or something else, I was going.

Am I suggesting that you quit your job and let go of all of your possessions willy nilly?!

NO – I’m just saying that sometimes you have to be brutally honest in the pursuit of your dreams, and let go of any obstacles in the way. Show up before the Universe plays its part. Don’t worry, there are lots of other things you can do first to energetically declutter. I’ll show you how with a free resource in a bit.

After taking care of two massive big obstacles, we went into the final competition with all of our mental baggage worked out. We were mentally, emotionally and practically ready to pack up our lives and we took action to prove it.

Be positive and never let it go

I never entertained the thought that we wouldn’t win. I visualised the moment when they would call our names. “Mark and Denise!”. I would repeat this to myself throughout the day at my job. It spurred me on to do actions that scared me, like cold-calling reporters to drum up publicity to impress the competition judges.

To remind myself to be positive, I wore my favourite necklace every day (and to the final). It’s a silver disk with the word Yes on one side, and No on the other. Every day I looked at that necklace on the Yes side and said to myself “Yes, I’m ready”.

I wore that necklace every day during the final weekend, in our interview with the judges and up on stage when they called our name.

“And the job goes to… Mark and Denise!”

The mindset piece is probably the most important. You have to be so focused on your goal that everything else is just detail. Check out these 7 Signs you Need to Work on Your Money Mindset here.

Now, this might sound really intimidating, but I actually automate this part now, so I don’t have to think about it too much, and it works even better!

Now, Take Action!

Here are five actions you can take towards manifesting your dreams TODAY:

Write down your goals (even if you have NO idea of how to achieve them)
Build your network by just five people and start building some good karma capital
Think of 5 things you’re grateful for in your life
Take one action towards your dream (even just scheduling it in your diary)
Give yourself permission to say “yes” to your dream

Since winning the Ultimate Job I have been able to refine and apply everything I’ve learnt about manifesting, mindset and business to create my First Class life and a multi-million dollar business.

It’s your time and you’re ready for the next step,

Denise xx

P.S. The more the merrier! We live in an abundant Universe and there is enough for us ALL to manifest more.

Let Your Money Flow: The three most common money blocks and how to fix them

Hey gorgeous,

Is money flowing easily into your business right now or do you feel like you’re somehow blocking it?

You might think, why would I do that? It sounds crazy right? The truth is that most of us have inner mindset blocks that actively stop us making money.

There are also some really standard things that you might be unconsciously doing that are just as detrimental to your business.

So today let’s look at the ways that you might be blocking money into your business and most importantly, how to fix them.

1)   Give customers a clear call to action

Block number one is simply not having offers for people to buy from you. It's so simple. You're not gonna have customers if you don't have ways for people to give you money. It breaks my heart this one; often the entrepreneurs who do this are the ones providing really beautiful services and really gorgeous products that the world needs.

It’s kinda like hoarding your gifts when you don’t allow people to buy.

If you're a healer, for example, or a creative who started your business to make the world a better place or to help people, this is something to watch out for. You can be so caught up in being of service that you forget that you're actually running a business.

So, for example, you run a big free networking group and everyone else is selling their wares there. But you never actually tell people how they can work with you further. Maybe you do something like offer free tarot readings or astrology, but you never tell people how they can buy a full personalized paid reading with you.

I don't want you to be broke. Money is energy and it needs to both be given and received in equal measure. You can do both! Making money and helping people are not mutually exclusive. Of course you can provide a ton of awesome free content for people, but make sure you encourage people to take the next step to work with you further and give you money. Some will sign up, others won't. It’s all okay, but you have to make the offer in order for money to flow. Read my Ultimate Guide to Pricing for Entrepreneurs where I share all my secrets on how to value your work.

Here's the fix. Create some clear specific offers.

If you're making this mistake in your business, the answer is really simple. You don't have to over complicate it. Just create a clear offer to let people know exactly how you can help them and how to book.

Here are some ideas for you.

If you've got a services page on your website, make it really clear and obvious. Get the info into your navigation bar. ‘Work with me’ or ‘book here’, for example. Don't hide what you do, or make people work for it.

Every time you send a newsletter, or post on social media, tell people the next step. Give them a clear call to action. Tell them this is how to work with me.

Another idea is to create a really simple passive income product like an audio or an ebook. That way there's something to buy on your website all the time. Even if it's small and low cost.

So my advice today?! Go finish that course that you've got on your computer and launch it. And I know it can be hard. I’ve procrastinated on this many times as well!

2)   Make it easy for people to pay you

The second way that you might be blocking the flow of money into your business is not making it easy for people to actually pay you.

So, you've made a link, you've got something for people to buy. But money needs a practical mechanism to actually get to you. And you need a way for people to actually give you money.

Don't get caught up in finding the perfect system and don't spend hours trying to find methods with lower fees. I’m afraid fees are just a cost of doing business. I hear a lot of entrepreneurs getting annoyed about the idea of having to pay credit card transaction fees, but this is just a cost of doing business and making it easy for people to pay you.

Here’s the fix - set up your payment accounts, make it really easy for people to pay you.

Maybe you make an upgrade and get  your clients to pay you upfront so you don't have to invoice them and chase them.

Maybe you need to set up PayPal or link credit card systems to your invoicing system.

You might be resistant about it, but you have to make it easier for people to give you money.

The next step is to set up automated emails to go out after someone's paid you. But that’s for another post!

3)   Work on your money mindset every day

Block number 3 may be the biggest way that you are blocking the flow of money right now. You need to make money mindset a priority in your business. If you've read any of my books, for example, Chillpreneur, you know that your money mindset work is never done. Money blocks will come up again and again in your business journey, pretty much every time you hit a new level.

I see way too many people do a little mindset work and then think they’re all done and they’ve fixed their money blocks for good.

It doesn’t work like that, folks. There's always more mindset work to do. Mindset work isn't just for Christmas. It’s forever. Like a puppy! You can work on it every day for the rest of your life. Most of the successful people I know prioritize mindset, in the same way they do strategy and marketing.

For more support on money mindset issues and how to shift yours, check out Seven Signs You Need to Work on Your Money Mindset.

Here’s the fix – make time for your money mindset work

I really recommend you invest as much time working on your mindset as you do anything else.

I want you to block out regular time each week to look at your money blocks and work out what you need to do to go to the next level. I promise a clear mindset will help the money flow into your business.

Look for any sabotaging behaviors. Notice where you’re hiding away, feeling guilty, not making offers. Look for a tendency to procrastinate launching or otherwise sabotage your success.

Add a mindset expert into your team, including working with someone like me to release your money blocks.

It's totally okay to pay for that kind of help. In fact, I think it's super important.

Okay, gorgeous. Well, that's how you let the money flow. You make offers. You make it really easy for people to pay you and you continually work on your money blocks.

It doesn’t have to be hard. Just start where you are.

Let's get that money flowing.

It's your time, and you're ready for the next step,

Denise xx

5 Signs You Need to Increase Your Prices (Even if You’re Scared)

You can always choose to increase your prices whenever you like. Yes, whenever you like!

You don’t have to wait for a sign from the universe or someone like me telling you it’s time to increase your prices.

But, there are five key signs that you’re ready to increase. Let’s dive in.

#1 You’re getting really booked out.

Being booked out doesn’t necessarily mean that you have millions of clients. What’s your version of being booked out?

When I was doing one-to-one coaching, my “booked out” level was around about 15 clients a week. Other coaches I knew could easily handle 100 clients a week.

Yours is whatever feels right for you and right now, you might feel that you’re feeling a little busy.

Guess what? Pricing is all about supply and demand.

If you have a lot of people clamoring for your services, chances are you can afford to increase your prices a little bit.

It’s natural to be scared.

When I started out every time I increased my prices, I would worry, “No-one’s ever going to book with me ever again. I’m never going to have any more clients. EVER”

The truth is that when you have high demand for your services, the market can bear a higher price.

The bonus is that you’ll work less and either earn the same or more. And you’ll have more energy to give your all to your clients. And bonus, you might have some creative space to write a book or make something that will serve even MORE people.

That’s the first sign you should raise your prices, when you’re getting a bit too busy for comfort.

Is that true for you? Yes or no?

#2 Clients tell you you’re too cheap.

The second sign (and this is a major one) is when you tell people your prices and they respond…

“Oh, it’s so cheap.

This is particularly true when it comes from potential clients. Nobody wants to be too cheap.

>> Read about how undercharging and over-delivering is harmful for both you and your clients here.

When you hear that repeatedly, take it as a massive sign that people have a different perception than you do around your worth.

I was chatting to someone I perceived as quite famous. When they told me their prices, I thought, “That doesn’t feel like a good energetic match. I expected you to be a lot more expensive than that.”

It made me second guess their ability.

If people are telling you that repeatedly, listen to them and ask yourself:

“Is my pricing a detriment to my brand?”

Remember pricing is not simply the cost of your time, or cost of goods sold.

Perception is a huge part of where you position yourself in the market, and WHO you want to attract.

So, are people saying things like “Oh, I expected it to be a lot more than that,” it could be time to take action and increase your prices…

#3 You’re attracting PAINFUL clients.

If you’re getting a lot of pain in the butt clients who are constantly complaining, trying to negotiate on price, nit-picking with you over different things, and generally making your life hell – that is a HUGE sign that you’re an energetic mismatch to your current pricing.

It’s the Universe’s way of forcing your hand.

If you need help with setting boundaries for clients that are asking for the moon, read my advice on how to stop people pleasing and set healthy boundaries around your time and energy. Click here.

You deserve to have clients who gladly pay you for what you do.

When you’re too cheap, (and this is the paradox), you think, “I’m over delivering so much and I’m trying to make it so affordable. Why aren’t they happy?”

It’s not the price. You’re an energetic match to people who don’t appreciate you, because YOU are not appreciating your talents.

You’re just attracting clients who mirror that energy.

A big sign is when you get clients who ask, “Can you give me a discount?” when you know you are already affordable. Clients who ask for accommodations above and beyond what you’re comfortable with. Who overstep boundaries. Who take up WAY more time and energy than your full price clients.

Sound familiar?

When you charge appropriately for what you do, you’ll attract clients who mirror self-worth back to you.

Trust me.

So seriously, if you’re dealing with pain in the ass clients right now, it’s a huge sign that it’s time for you to upgrade your prices and attract more energetically aligned clients.

If you need help with setting bound

#4 You’re consistently creating amazing results for your clients.

Especially when you create results that have an impact on their income.

This isn’t just for people who teach business or money because you might have a business completely outside of that realm.

Maybe you help people:

Save time – so they can make more money elsewhere, or spend more time with their family
Save money – by outsourcing a task or helping them become more efficient with their resources
Become more efficient in their business by doing something they aren’t good at. Again, time = money.

You might help high achievers to become peak performers; for example, a kinesiologist or a health coach helps people to be the best that they can be, have more energy, have more confidence, break through blocks, etc.

An amazing support person can save time and money, and allow their clients to work in their zone of genius.

That can have a HUGE impact on someone’s bottom line.

If you know that you’re getting amazing results for people and you’re getting better at it, then you deserve to be paid in line with the value and results that you accomplish.

Simple.

As you get more experience, you’re helping people shortcut their success as well.

That’s a huge sign when you’re getting rave reviews and getting outstanding results for your clients, that you should increase your prices.

Think – “I serve, I deserve,” which is a mantra that I think every entrepreneur should embrace.

I serve, I deserve. Giving and receiving in equal weight.

#5 You want to earn more money.

It’s okay to just decide, “I’d like to get paid more for what I do.” Maybe you already know that you’re an energetic mismatch to your prices and you simply want to earn more. That’s totally ok.

And it’s going to happen regularly over your entrepreneurial journey. Each time will feel scary and it’s normal to think, “Is anyone going to pay this? Am I really worth this?”

Then you settle into it and it feels really good for a while. You feel okay about saying your prices without choking…

and then…

As you get even better at what you do, you might feel like you’ve outgrown your pricing again. Totally normal.

So if you’ve been feeling itchy or that it’s time to expand, then DO IT – raise your prices.

That is a huge, clear sign to get out of your comfort zone and go to the next stage.

Nobody else is going to give you permission. You have to claim it for yourself.

Ask yourself what would feel good to charge, even if it feels a little bit scary, a little bit exciting…?

Remember, the same thing happens every time.

You feel scared, you feel like no one’s going to pay it.

You step into it and it’s comfortable.

You attract the next level of client that you want to work with,

You settle into it and then…sorry to tell you that it happens all over again.

You have permission to earn more.

Let’s recap the 5 signs you should increase your prices

Not ALL of these have to be true before you increase your prices by the way… even just one will do.

You’re booked out. You can’t fit anyone else in because you’re in demand. Increase your prices.
People keep on telling you, “You’re so cheap!” Take the hint – people have a different perception of you. Increase your prices.
You get pain in the butt clients that just don’t appreciate you, no matter how much you’re over delivering. Time to increase your prices.
You’re getting amazing results for people. You’re getting better at what you do. You’re short-cutting your client’s success. Time to increase your prices.
Because you want to. It’s okay. You don’t have to wait for someone else to give you permission. Go for it.

This can totally be your best month ever in business and sorting out your new pricing is a great place to start.

It’s your time and you’re ready for the next step.

How to Feel Abundant Even When You're Broke

Hey gorgeous,

Let’s talk about how you can feel abundant when in reality you’re actually quite broke.

This is a really important thing to deal with so you don’t start to manifest more bills and make the situation even worse. First of all, don’t worry you can totally get out of this situation.

Make A List

Okay. So sometimes you can feel broke when in reality the situation is not that bad. So the first thing I want you to do is to make a list of everything in your life that actually makes you quite rich already. I call this the Lucky Bitch list.

It could be that you live in a great house, that you have a great relationship, that you’ve got amazing health. Write a list of all of those things where you actually have a lot of abundance and luck already in your life.

That list will immediately make you feel better and it will give you a bit of perspective.

Switch Up Your Thoughts

When you are feeling super, super broke sometimes you can start to manifest more bills. Have you noticed that when you really, really are desperate for business and clients, that’s when things really, really dry up?

And when you’re feeling really good about your business and super abundant, that’s when suddenly even more clients start to come in.

So, let’s try and switch up your thoughts and feelings right now in ways that don’t cost you anything.

Burn your super-luxe candles. Use the towels that are just for guests. Wear makeup and perfume and nice clothes that you already have that maybe you’ve been saving for a special occasion.

Do anything that you can to start feeling abundant and rich because that can sometimes help to turn things around just by the way you feel.

Here’s three ways you can start to maximize your success starting today.

Take Action

And then lastly, once you’ve turned those thoughts around, now you’re in the position to start taking some action.

Make a list of some of the income producing activities that you can implement today and start putting them into place.

It could be that you have to chase up some clients who owe you money. It could be that there are clients who were just, you know, sitting in your inbox saying, send me a proposal or what happens next and you’ve been procrastinating sending them the thing to ask for the money or it could be that you have to think up something completely new and creative to bring that money in.

Lastly, you know, if all else fails, sell something, do anything you can to make that money come in.

You have to do the mental work first. Start with your mindset and it will be much easier to take those actions to bring that money in.

And remember, it doesn’t have to be hard. The world is an abundant place and there’s always more money – read my millionaire mindset tips here.

So, I want to hear from you below:

What are the best ways that you’ve made yourself feel rich and abundant?

It’s your time and you’re ready for the next step.

3 Ways Entrepreneurs Can Maximise Their Success Starting Today!

Hey gorgeous,

I was a born entrepreneur but it doesn’t mean I was naturally good at it.

At just nine years old I started a fluoro bracelet business. The trouble was that I sold the bracelets I made for the same price as the cost of materials. Zero profit. I felt ashamed when my teacher pointed that out. Up until then though I was just thrilled by the pure joy of selling and making my own money.

That year my mum gave me an electric typewriter for Christmas and it was the best present ever! After dabbling with writing newsletters and short-stories, I went into the forgery business, selling ‘personally signed’ letters from Kylie Minogue for $5 a piece by claiming she was my cousin.

Aged twelve, I organised a club for my friends, inspired by the Baby Sitters Club. It was called, ‘The Cool Kids Club’ (we even had a song!). We worked on a random variety of projects that we never got around to finishing, like selling horse manure and organising garage sales. I’m great at the ideas, less on the follow up and eventually my mum made us throw out everything we had accumulated. Manure included.

Success Habits: My First Mastermind

In my teens, I came up with this concept of ‘being brave’ with my close girlfriends. We encouraged each other to get involved in ‘scary’ school projects like the debate team or running for school council. We watched Oprah together and talked about our dreams. It was my first ‘mastermind’ experience.

Undoubtedly from a young age I exhibited clear signs of being a creative entrepreneur, a dynamic life coach (although I didn’t know that was even a job) and an enthusiastic writer and communicator.

These are all the things I do professionally now, but why on earth did I spend my twenties denying my natural talents and doing everything from waitressing to event management – a total of over 50 random and often very unfulfilling jobs?

Why does anyone waste time living small just to pay the bills?

Don’t tell me you don’t know what you’re ‘meant to be’. I’ll bet there were just as clear signs in your childhood as there were in mine.

How I Sabotaged Success

When I left my small town to go to University, suddenly I was in a much scarier pond, very far removed from growing up with a single mum in a low-income area. I didn’t realise that people would look down on me, because most of my friends back-home had the same.

I allowed myself to feel ‘less than’ everyone else. In consequence, I failed most of my degree and often felt depressed and frustrated.

So, rather than being the vibrant kid who had zero doubt of her capabilities, I drifted from job to job, trying to find the ‘thing’ when it was completely obvious. I allowed self-worth issues to block that which would have fulfilled me. I sabotaged easy success.

3 Ways to Maximise Success Starting Today

A few years ago I went back to my old high school and spoke to 25 of the school’s most promising students. Like me, some of them came from struggling backgrounds and had limited imagination to what was possible out of our town.

Here’s what I told them:

 1. Work with your natural strengths

Life is so much better when you give yourself permission to live in your brilliance. Don’t feel guilty because it’s easy and feels good. Better yet if you can find the sweet spot between your natural strengths and your passions. Every combination you can think of is possible.

 2.  Believe you’re good enough

I didn’t get this until my late twenties and then some of my natural enthusiasm and creativity came back with a vengeance. Nobody else was holding me back except for me. Give that gift to yourself and be in your own corner.

 3.  Continue to set big goals for your life

I’ve seen that any crazy dream is possible, but nobody is going to track you down and say ‘YOU – you must share your talents with the world!’ You have to be clear on what you want.

I wish I could go back in time to meet the little hustling entrepreneur I was at nine years old and say ‘keep going – you’ll get there’. But it was my journey and I can honestly say that finally, I’m in a place where I can say – I LOVE what I do.

And I want to help you get there too!

This month the live coaching call in my Money Bootcamp course is all about letting go of your limiting beliefs and mindset blocks from previous jobs and old bosses.

If you were ever told “you can’t do that” or “you should be happy with that wage” or “don’t get ahead of yourself” then join us this month and we’ll work through releasing these memories so you can create your dream career feeling in control and empowered.

Choose yourself and make this the month you invest in upgrading your mindset to start manifesting your goals. Click here for all the details about Money Bootcamp and message me here if you have any questions (or need an extra nudge to sign up this week).

It’s Never Too Late to Find Your Dream Job!

Everyone loves asking little kids what they want to be when they grow up. They always have such great ideas – astronaut, professional football player, cowboy, ballerina, vet!

Of course, kids aren’t so bothered by the fact that they’ll one day need a job or business idea to “pay the bills” or care about making “sensible” choices.

They just want to do what makes them happy.

Me? I wanted to have my own business (I desperately wanted to wear a power suit with shoulder pads) and if that didn’t work out, I wanted to be a professional dancer.

I never thought I’d meander through more than 50 jobs by the time I was 30, most of which made me miserable.

So, what about you? What was your burning desire as a child?

Most people have a secret dream of what they want to be and do with their lives. Some are already living it – either as a career or as a hobby. Others are too scared to even articulate what they want.

How do you discover your dream job or your purpose in life?

Success Habits: Look for Clues

Finding your ideal job or purpose is really obvious in hindsight. Usually because it’s been a dream for a long time, or it just fits so perfectly with your innate skills and talents. People who find their passion in life say that “Everything just came together”, or “All of my experiences in life has led me to this”.

Clues can be found in childhood:

My husband used to sell sweets (at an exorbitant profit) to kids at school. No wonder then that he’s now a sales dynamo. He also found a way to combine his mad passion for football with his brilliant skill in sales and marketing.

My favourite toy as a kid was the Olivetti electric typewriter I got for my 9th birthday. No wonder that I love writing (thanks mum!).

My friend Claire wanted to be an actress from a young age and now she’s finally moving to L.A to do it full time.

What if you have no idea, but you know for sure that you’re not doing it. “Anything but what I’m doing now,” isn’t specific enough for the Universe to manifest the right opportunities, people and resources to help you along the way. Consider the following:

What do you love to do?
What have you always dreamt about doing with your life?
What do other people tell you that you’d be fantastic at?
What courses do you dream about taking?
If you didn’t have to worry about taking a pay cut, or what other people thought about it, what would you do?

Take the first steps

Once you have an inkling of your passion, then start to take steps towards changing your career or living in your purpose.

This includes volunteering, shadowing someone in your chosen field, taking it on as a side hobby or completing a course to get new qualifications.

It doesn’t matter how young or old you are – time passes anyway. You might look at the length of time it would take to complete a completely new line of study, and think “6 years! What’s the point?!”.

Tell that to my friend Angela, who is almost finished her part-time psychology course which she started on top of a completely different career. Ditto my friend, Dave, who did his part-time MBA. Time goes quickly.

Tell that to the fabulous Mirna, who became a reflexologist after working in a department store for years (and hating it), despite having no clue about how she was going to manage to get her dream job.

Make the change

Making drastic changes can be scary – I get it, but it’s also liberating. Quitting a horrible job is awesome, applying for your dream job is a great step in the right direction, but you have to do something – otherwise you’ll stay exactly where you are now.

If you “can’t afford” to make the change, then start to plan how you could ease into a new career without completely derailing your life or cause yourself stress. Put aside a bit of money for your course, start changing your spending habits now to anticipate a drop in income or spare some time outside of your current job to move towards your dreams.

You might be working late nights and weekends for a while, but it will pay off eventually and you’ll enjoy it because it will be entirely for YOU.

Even just indulging in your passion as a hobby will make big changes in your life. Doing a night course in photography will spark your creativity, volunteering with animals will make up for never becoming a vet and going on a once in a lifetime holiday to a horse camp will probably satisfy that inner cowboy dream.

I’ll never be a professional dancer, but I just went back to dance school for tap, jazz and modern lessons and it reminds me that my passions are important.

What are you going to do to make a change in your life?

Own it

As you make the transition into your new life, you have to start seeing yourself in a new way before other people will.

It took me so long to tell people I was a life coach. I just didn’t believe it myself so how could I tell people that? It felt like a lie, even though I had done the training.

I started coaching people for free, so technically I was a life coach. I felt more comfortable about telling people what I did, and guess what? They believed me

Which made me believe it and all of a sudden I was attracting paid clients left, right and centre!

What you say becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. So, the next time someone asks what you do, just experiment….

I’m an actress
I own my own business
I’m a children’s book writer
I’m a photographer
I’m a graphic designer
etc

Get your business cards made up, start a website or make a brochure. It will help you feel like it’s real.

If you feel uncomfortable telling people your dream, then get out there and get some experience! Everyone has to start somewhere. Most professions have an apprenticeship of sorts, so don’t be embarrassed if you have to start at the bottom. With passion and purpose fuelling you, you won’t be there long.

Don’t worry about doing work for free at the beginning. This is just to get your confidence up and to help you believe in yourself and your work.

Clear your Mindset blocks

Working jobs that you don’t love or don’t fit with your skills and personality is hard and it can negatively impact your mindset and self-belief.

What stories are you holding on to from past jobs about what you’re good at or how much you deserve to earn?

Do you have old memories and limiting beliefs holding you back from unsupportive ex-bosses or colleagues?

Are you struggling to move beyond a certain income level because it’s “what you’ve always earnt”? What if you could earn more from your passion than your old job?

Lots of the entrepreneurs I coach are holding on to and are held back by beliefs and blocks from old jobs and bosses.

Before you can embrace a career or business you love and make the money you want, you need to clear these old sabotages and negative beliefs.

I’m chatting live about ALL of this on this month’s coaching call in our Money Bootcamp community. There’s a spot reserved for you if you’re ready to take the next step towards your dream job (and life!). Join us here.

So, I’ll ask you again:

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When you grow outside of your limitations, fears and self-doubts, when you grow out of needing other people’s approval, when you grow out of living up to the expectations of others. When you finally give yourself permission to dream and be happy.

I’d love to hear about how you’re making your dream a reality, one step at a time.

It’s your time and you’re ready for the next step,

Denise xx

Nine Most Common Self-Care Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make (and how to avoid them)

Hey gorgeous,

I’ve got a confession to make. Sometimes I eat popcorn for lunch, don’t drink enough water, and I’ve often procrastinated about leaving the house.

I started my business to give myself more flexibility and abundance, but I’m the first to admit that I let my self-care slide all the time.

If you’re in the same position, today I want to inspire you to change a few habits. Together, we can make a commitment to create a First Class life in all areas.

I’m up for it if you are!

Let me ask you a question…

How far do you go to “get sh*t done” in your business?

As anentrepreneur, you’ve probably done some pretty insane things in the name of “getting the job done”. Whatever you did probably made complete sense in the moment. After all, you did it to build your business, meet a deadline, or avoid letting someone else down, right?

Richard Branson said, “Entrepreneurs work 100 hours a week so they don’t have to work 40 hours for someone else.” But you can’t live like that forever. It’s just not sustainable.

Look, there’s nothing wrong with a little hustle when you need it, but that kind of logic is exactly why you find yourself doing bizarre things like:

Eating dinner over the sink or in the car as you rush from one client appointment to the next.
Pulling all-nighters and sacrificing sleep, then only getting dressed if you have a webinar. And then even then, it’s probably business dress on top, PJs on the bottom.
Going to conferences around the world… where all you do is arrive, attend a conference in a generic hotel, and then fly home.

(I’ve totally done all those things at least once in my business.)

Girlfriend, it’s not cool to treat yourself like that!

Self-care isn’t just about getting manicures and facials. It’s about giving yourself the time and space to live your life as a well rounded person.

It’s about treating yourself the way you’d treat your best friend.

Entrepreneurship makes it way too easy to ignore self-care

If most of us are honest, we’ll admit that we weren’t too super-hot at self-care even before we started our businesses. Let’s face it: our culture and society just doesn’t encourage us women to take real care of themselves (but that’s a rant for another day!)

At least as an employee, though, you get natural, built-in boundaries between “work time” and “not work time”. There often aren’t a lot of other advantages to working for someone else, but at least there’s that! I think your boss would notice if you didn’t shower for days at a time!

Once you start working for yourself, though, no-one else is responsible for your boundaries. That makes it so much harder to keep yourself from working 24/7 because there’s so much to do!

And it often just seems natural to prioritize your business now and figure that you’ll look after yourself later – once you become “successful”. But trust me when I say that I still struggle with this stuff, even though I don’t have to work as hard now as when I first started my business.

Self-care really is a mindset problem rather than a logistical one.

Nine most common self-care mistakes that entrepreneurs like you make

If you watch TV ads, you could be forgiven for thinking that self-care is about which brand of shampoo or air-freshener you buy. (And yes, that’s another rant of mine!)

The truth, of course, is that self-care is about looking after yourself at a deep level in a number of areas. Here are some of the fundamental self-care mistakes I regularly see business owners making.

Physical

Skipping meals, eating way too much junk food, or constantly hitting the caffeine to get you through the day.
Going short on sleep, working late into the night (if you’re a morning person), or getting up way too early for client calls (if you’re a night owl).
Ignoring your body’s need to pee because you “just need five more minutes to finish this job”.

Emotional

Discounting your inner alarm bells and taking on clients that you really don’t want to work with.
Regularly standing up your friends or family to meet a business deadline.
Giving up your hobbies and other non-work interests because you just “don’t have time”.

(Hey, I love my business as much as you do, but I think we can both agree that they really shouldn’t be our only hobbies!)

Spiritual

Neglecting your meditation, journaling or other spiritual practice.
Forgetting to take time out to connect with whatever form Spirit/Source takes for you.
Feeling as though you need to do everything yourself, and refusing to allow the Universe to help.

Key takeaway: you ARE your business

Here’s a fundamental truth: there’s only one resource that your business truly can’t do without, and that’s YOU. If almost anything else in your business breaks down, you can find a way forward. It might be a pain in the butt, but you can do it.

If you drive yourself to the point of adrenal fatigue (or just to the point that you can’t do your best work), it’s a lot harder to bounce back.

I’ve met many entrepreneurs who’ve had to abandon their life’s work because the Universe practically forced them to rest with a major health problem or accident. We don’t want that to happen to you!

That’s why deferring your self-care “until you become successful” is the quickest route I know to burn out. And the paradox is that it actually stops you from being successful. (Much like refusing to pay yourself “until you’re successful” … which is ANOTHER rant of mine: wow, this is a ranty post!)

In fact, you might even be able to combine self-care and business together!

For example, I take quarterly business retreats with my girlfriends. We drive for an hour together to a spa, talking business the whole way. Then we have massages separately, have our mani/pedis together, and end the retreat with a nice lunch.

What does this mean for your money mindset?

Well, one of my mentors Kendall Summerhawk says “how you do money is how you do everything” and I’ve found the reverse to also be true.

How you do self-care will bring up stuff around your mindset and beliefs.

Are you worthy and deserving of self-care?

Will the money stop if you take some time out for self-care?

If you’re resisting investing money on self-care, where else in your business are you resisting spending much needed money?

Is your self-care routine “economy”, “premium economy” or “First Class”? Where can you make an incremental upgrade today?

Is your lack of boundaries and systems in your business making self-care more difficult?

Finish this sentence… “When I take care of myself first, my business will…”

This is the type of reflection and exploration we do in my Money Bootcamp course and community, especially on our monthly group coaching calls.

If you want my support to work on your relationship with money and the beliefs and habits you have around spending and receiving then click here and message me the word “Bootcamp”.

What self-care strategies could you start using TODAY?

Here are a few practical ideas for you to try out:

Implement “no working” days: For example, I took Mondays, and then Fridays, out of my coaching calendar back when I was doing 1:1 work. That allowed me to batch my coaching sessions and left space for creativity (or even a sneaky movie date) on the other days.
Get clear on your working hours. I used to get up at 5am to coach international clients. It wasn’t good for me – or them – because I wasn’t at my best. It’s okay to say no if an arrangement doesn’t work for you. Plus, if you work too late at your computer, it can have a knock-on effect on your sleep. Clock off and stay off.
Implement boundaries with your clients. Tell them when they can reasonably expect a response from you and wean them off instant gratification.
Invest in some help. Hire your first assistant and actually get them to do things for you! Start with whatever tasks stress you out the most, and give yourself permission to do the work that feels good.
Lastly, upgrade your lady mafia: surround yourself with women who are kind to themselves and who will inspire you to treat yourself like the Lucky Bee you are.

It’s your time and you’re ready for the next step.

3 Steps to Stop People Pleasing and Create Better Boundaries

Hey gorgeous,

I’m back with a healthy boundaries prescription for you that you can start using straight away to create a better life.

First of all, I want you to consider are you saying YES to everyone else but saying NO to yourself? Learn how to set healthy boundaries and how to STOP saying yes and take care of yourself. This is a BIG challenge for many female entrepreneurs.

Why the hell do we say yes, when we really mean NO?

Back when I started out, not only was I a chronic YES girl, I actually wore it on a chain around my neck. I would say yes before I even knew what I was committing to. I said yes to people and things that made me really unhappy.

So many women are doing the exact same thing, for various reasons… to avoid hurting other people’s feelings, so people don’t think you’re a bitch, to keep the peace… etc.

Here’s my prescription for getting out of the people pleasing trap.

STEP 1. Decide when YOU want to work.

Do you want to do evenings and weekends… or not?
What’s the earliest or latest you’re happiest with working?
    When do you work best?
Can you take off a whole day completely from client work?

It’s okay to have your business be exactly the way you want it. There are MORE than enough clients out there for you.

STEP 2: Create a new policy and inform your clients about it.

Just make a simple announcement on your website or newsletter:

“From 1st Oct, opening hours are X Y Z.”

No apologies or over-explaining (it’s your business after-all) and no need to beg for understanding. Just give them notice (anything up to a month is fine) and that’s the end of it. Remember, people make time for dentist and doctor appointments. You don’t have to be super convenient for everyone.

I know the fear is that you’ll lose all your clients, but trust me – that won’t happen. You might even free up time and energy to write a book, create some programs that don’t require your time or have energy for some well-defined pro-bono work.

STEP 3: Enforce the new boundary.

People will try and push the new boundary, “Can you make an exception for me, pretty please?“. Trust me. It will happen within 24 hours of you mentally and emotionally making the decision. I bet you ten bucks.

And seriously, the first time you enforce it, you’ll feel like the biggest bitch in the world, but stick to your guns and you’ll feel amazing.

What’s the Energy Behind Being ‘Too Available’?

Here’s something to think about – I used to offer my clients up to 55 different slots a week. I had maybe 10-15 clients a week which was my idea of a happy workload. So, I was just trying to be accommodating by offering them appointments anytime from 7am-6pm five days a week. (I stopped offering my 5am offering but 7am appointments still sucked).

One client said that seeing so many available appointments on my calendar made her think, “Hmmm, maybe Denise isn’t doing so well”.

Being too accommodating can backfire as well as making you stressed.

However, work through these three steps and I promise you’ll start to feel better, your relationships and communication skills will improve and you’ll be making more money.

It’s your time and you’re ready for the next step.

Denise xx

I’d love to hear from you. Tell me what are you saying YES to that you really don’t want to do? Where are you saying NO to yourself?

Stop Wasting Energy – Set Boundaries in Your Business Today

Hello gorgeous,

Do you need better boundaries? You’re not alone!

Boundary problems are so common for female entrepreneurs and they can destroy your business. Setting boundaries is challenging; you can feel like a bitch for having them and people will certainly push against them!

Are you suffering from…

    Clients not paying
    Discounting clients
    Bartering or working for free
Not earning what you think you’re worth?

All of these SUCK right?

Let’s look at some ways to get free of the unhealthy boundary trap.

When you get a handle on creating healthy boundaries and design your life to make YOU happy first and foremost, you’ll actually start to make more money and enjoy your life and business again.

Create a Better Life

When you really get this lesson, you’ll see that having strong boundaries is actually the most loving and respectful thing you can do and one that will attract a better quality of clients, friends and other people into your life.

Let’s Get Started on Healthy Boundaries

Here’s an easy but symbolic act that I promise will make a BIG impact.

Set boundaries around your time.

When I first started in my business, I would coach people at 5am. It SUCKED big time and I wasn’t present with my clients or happy getting up at the crack of dawn. It made me grumpy and sleepy for the rest of the day.

Why did I do it? Because I thought that if I said no to my international clients, they wouldn’t book with me again. I wanted to be accommodating, even if it affected my quality of life.

My coach, Fabienne Fredrickson, told me that she has turned down many international clients because she refused to budge on her schedule. She told me;

“I am more important than money. They will find another coach who suits their needs better”.

And guess what? You will find more than enough clients that will work with your new and improved schedule, plus you’ll be WAY happier.

The Power of Saying No

It’s ok to protect your time by saying no. Have you noticed that the people who demand most free help are the least gracious? And it’s ok, we’ve all been there and acted from a place of people pleasing. When I first started out, I’d meet  potential clients for coffee dates to give free advice and even end up paying for my coffee too!

For me one of my biggest lessons around setting boundaries with my time was to say no to certain clients and to be upfront that I wasn’t a substitute for therapy.

I coached ANYONE back then, including people who didn’t really have a business (or big goals), and kind of just wanted to vent or complain.

Not all of my clients were like this – most were amazing! But, because I was so cheap, I was a magnet for clients with huge money problems, or people who just wanted to win the lottery to get them out of a desperate situation. I also attracted a lot of people who just wanted to pick my brains.

I’m gonna say that again… Because I was cheap, I attracted more of the wrong sort of clients - people who weren’t ready to work with me.

Do This!

Setting boundaries around offering free advice needs to become a practice.

The first time you do it, you’ll probably feel mean but put yourself in the other person’s shoes and consider what’s right for their highest good. If you have an excellent solution for them don’t get sucked into giving them a below par experience - let them sign up to and enjoy your full package.

Or if they’re not a good fit for you and you don’t feel good about working with them, release them to work with someone who is a good fit.

Secret reveal… people who want to take advantage of you will never go away. The best thing you can do to protect your time is to establish better boundaries and direct brain pickers to the paid services you offer.

Here’s a few scripts you can use:

Great to hear from you… and great question! I can't answer questions about this course privately but if you ask it publicly in the group and tag me, everyone can benefit from my answer and you’ll get the community wisdom too!
Thanks so much for your message. It sounds as though you’re in a really challenging situation. My programme is perfectly designed for people in your circumstances and can help in the following ways (list benefits)
Thanks for reaching out. I can’t accommodate a meet up but I’d love to help you out. It sounds as though my mentoring package might be the perfect fit for you. Here are the details.

Or this one, which I love because it ties right in with my core values!

Thanks for your interest in meeting with me. Unfortunately I can’t because the time I don’t spend with clients is spent with my family.

What’s Your Energy Around Setting Boundaries?

Take a look to see if there’s a reason you’re attracting brain pickers or people who expect you to give your time for free.

Are you training people to get your valuable time for free by always being available and never saying no?

Know this - you’re 100% worth the money you charge!

It’s your time and you’re ready for the next step.

Denise xx

7 Secrets to Working Less and Earning More

Follow these seven success habits and become a blissed-out Chillpreneur today!

Hey gorgeous,

Do you really believe it’s possible to work less and earn more? I am a recovering workaholic perfectionist and I’m here to show you that business doesn’t have to be hard. That YOU can get to a place where your business supports your dreams and doesn't burn you out. Here are seven success habits that you can start TODAY!

Hands up if you no longer want to:

Hustle
Crush it
Work harder and longer for diminishing returns
Be at your desk from dawn to dusk every day
Have to do it all by yourself
Burn yourself out at the altar of your successful business

It’s time to learn the Chillpreneur way!

If you’re super eager, secure your copy of my book here and get started straight away!

Chillpreneur Success Habits

The opportunities available to us entrepreneurs right now are mind blowing. The internet gives us tools that are magical and life-changing. Starting your own business used to involve a lot of upfront capital or techy know how. Today, anyone can launch their own business from their bedroom! As long as you have internet access, you can sell glitter penis-grams from a tiny house in Nebraska or design websites on the beach in Tulum, Mexico.

Even though women (especially women of color) are the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs, we face a load of built-in obstacles. Women’s businesses aren’t always considered ‘real enterprises’. There’s a wage gap in the start-up world too. The biggest problem I see is that women are trying to fit their businesses into an old masculine model.

I want to show you a new path.

Seven Success Habits

Here are the seven steps to doing business the Chillpreneur way.

I wish I was perfect at all of these but they’re aspirational even for me.

1)   Believe in an Abundant Universe

As a Chillpreneur you embrace an abundant mindset and KNOW there’s enough for everyone. This includes money, clients and opportunities. You know you’re as deserving as anyone else and that when you gain, it doesn’t mean that someone else loses.

2)   Remember You’re Human

Being chill doesn’t mean you’re like a Buddhist monk in your approach to life (although if you are - congrats!). We’re all perfectly imperfect and it’s ok to have days when you're decidedly unchill about everything. Practice self-compassion and forgiveness for your mistakes. And then move on!

3)   Be Optimistic

Look for the silver lining in everything. Failed launch? ‘We can learn so much from this for next time’. Tech screw up in the middle of a webinar? ‘Sweet, this is a juicy chapter for my next book!’ Every experience is useful and nothing is wasted. In fact, failures are great fodder for podcasts, blog posts and future Oprah interviews. Check out the lessons I’ve learnt from failing to value my time (and over-delivering by giving away earrings!

4)    Practice Detachment

As a Chillpreneur you know that a client’s no doesn't mean you’re terrible at your business. Setbacks just mean you need to try again. You can genuinely and passionately care about your work and still hold it lightly. This includes your reaction to sales numbers, client results and feedback from others.

5)   Just Do It

You know there are many paths to success. Why spend days, months, years debating which path to take when you can just get started on your journey? As a Chillpreneur you know that imperfect action is better than inaction. Make the best decision for now and tweak as you go.

6)   Follow the Path of Least Resistance

Try to find the most comfortable path - even when it feels lazy or too obvious. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel to prove yourself to your friends, parents or even that high school teacher! You know that ease and for are different for everyone so you honor your strengths and weaknesses and don’t copy someone else’s version of success. Read my tips on the easiest way to make money (and how I wanted to start a toilet hook business!) over on my blog.

7)   Do Good in the World

Chillpreneurs strive for mutual success. You don’t think that making money is evil (or if you do, you’re working on your blocks!) because you know that it allows you to do good in the world. You build philanthropy, self care and sustainable practices into your business for the sake of your clients, your team, yourself and the planet. You’re in business to make a lot of money and help a lot of people. You’re one of the good guys.

Remember these are suggestions, not commandments. It’s a practice! I’m still in my chillprenticeship; I’m no Jedi master. I still have to practice this stuff every day.

Just know that you don’t have to sacrifice your adrenals, your marriage, or your sleep to create success in your life. I want you to learn from my mistakes so that you don’t fall into the same traps.

To finish up, take a deep breath and repeat my favorite mantra “It’s my time and I’m ready for the next step.”

To take the next step towards a business that supports you click here and buy my book, Chillpreneur – for TODAY only, the book is available for $1.99.
