Light
Sunlight magnifies,
and expands
the space on which Humanity stands.
draw the curtains,
open the blinds,
see the beauty
in what you find.
Everything flows -
metamorphosis;
with each new sunrise
the earth to kiss.
And from dark corners,
from shadows, that creep,
rainbows dazzle
the world from sleep.
Yet do not wake,
I hear you cry,
drying sleep
from hooded eyes.
Nightmare illusions
creep into day;
you want the world
to go away.
How can this be,
our children, confined,
the world, its axis,
realigned.
Nothing is as was before,
as phantoms
knock
on Eternity’s door.
Yet, here is the dawn,
and here, the rose,
inhale the fragrance
as it blows.
The winds of change
are coming soon,
and all the world
will be - abloom.

Prayer for The Earth.
Don’t talk to me of justice,
Don’t talk to me of pain,
Don’t talk to me of slavery -
it’s too hard to explain.
Don’t talk to me of freedom,
cos we all pay the price.
We strike out on our brothers -
and do it more than twice.
Don’t talk to me of a new Peace
all across the globe,
The streets are paved with bloodshed,
yet we say they’re paved of gold.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,
listen and you’ll see,
the violence and destruction
It’s too hard to believe,
Yeah, Yeah , Yeah,
listen to the sound,
There is no room for breathing
as a man’s tied to the ground.
Don’t talk of changes coming,
we dare not hope today.
Cos promises are tomorrow,
and freedom slips away
We march with distant voices,
that fall upon deaf ears,
we’re marching for our brothers,
with hearts so full of fear.
Just give me one last promise,
that Love comes shining through;
the bright star of creation,
a start of something new.
A sign that change is coming
when something in us moves,
and the world is all together,
and joined in Grace and Love.

The Call Of The Wild
I'm super-excited the release of "The Call of The Wild" movie! It thrills me to be seeing the book unfold on the big screen.
Of course, my most recent book, "The Girl In The Red Cape," is an adventure with fairytale elements, set in Alaska. I'm looking forward to "seeing" Alaska in the film and comparing the kinds of snow scenes and settings the movie depicts to what I envisioned when I was creating my own story.
Of course, champion musher and winner of The Junior Iditarod, 2019, Anna Stephan, acted as a consultant for my book so that factual elements combine with my artistic vision, to create a fairytale fiction book for Mid Grade and their adults, with authentic elements of adventure.
"The Girl in the Red Cape" is illustrated by accomplished artist and illustrator, Michele Bourke, and has over thirty color illustrations which really give readers a feeling of magic, mysticism and adventure. She has really captured the wildness and beauty of nature waiting to be discovered in the Alaskan tundra.

Books, Writers and "Soundtracks" that Inspire.
What Music Inspires Your Books?
I have noticed that whenever I write, I always hear music that becomes a kind of soundtrack when I am writing. Very often this music is a driver for my writing, helping me to visualize the characters, scenes and settings of a book.
I thought I'd have a little fun with you today and let you into the secret “soundtracks” behind my recent writings. I'd be delighted to hear about yours!
“The Girl in The Red Cape” “When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going,” Billy Ocean
“Celebrate The Seasons,” Vivaldi – The Four Seasons
"Sleepy Animals," Brahms Lullaby.
"Luna The Moon Pig," I composed a few tunes of my own for her :)
"Snugs The Snow Bear," "Northern Lights," by Renaissance
"The Cave," "Rolling in The Deep," Adele
"Johari's Window," "Cherry Blossom Girl," Air, and "Cherry Blossom Ending," Busker Busker

Anna Stephan, Champion Musher, Winner of The Junior Iditarod, 2019 talks to Suzy Davies, Author of “The Girl in The Red Cape: A Mystical Sled Ride” Coming to Amazon Soon!
Who or what first inspired you to be a musher?
My father was a musher back in the day. When my sister and I were 7, he bought us our first sled dogs from a kennel in Anchorage.
How did you feel when you won The Junior Iditarod?
I was super-excited, and very proud of the dogs.
Which sled dog is your favorite, and why?
That’s a hard decision, they are all so special. If I had to choose one, it would probably be Sky. I raised her from a pup and she is one of my best lead dogs.
What advice would you give to a would-be musher?
It’s all about the dogs. Take good care of them, and they will take care of you.
Have you ever met a wild animal on the trail? What happened?
Yes, a moose attacked us on the trail once. It was very scary. The moose ran up to the team and stomped at a few of the dogs. We were very lucky no one got hurt.
Who is your closest musher friend? How did you meet him or her?
Probably our neighbour The Redingtons; my father raced dogs with them when he was younger.
Friendships in the mushing community are important. How do you keep these friendships when you compete with each other?
It's not hard. Everyone is helpful and supportive of one another.
Do you listen to music when you are dog sledding?
Yes, usually on long training runs.
I've heard you play the violin? What's your favorite piece to play?
I don’t really have a favorite, but I do play a lot of hymns.
What are your dreams and wishes for your future?
I think I’d like to be a teacher.
What is your favorite place in Alaska, and why?
I really like Hatcher's Pass. They have some great hiking trails there, and it’s a good place to snowboard in the winter.
