South Korea Spring

In this city,
concrete and glass,
ancient temples,
and hidden parks,
on this river
were made our schemes
to break with tradition,
with K-Pop dreams.

Ajoomas walk here,
comfortably clothed,
in western styles,
young beauties pose,
taking photos
under the trees,
couples strolling
in the breeze.

The sound of windchimes
fills the air
and you laugh
and toss your raven hair,
follow the clouds
of blossoms, pink-white,
hypnotic fragrance
through the night.

Ants

The life of an ant is an enigma,
and how they appear, sometimes, a stigma,
they run together in the sand,
their sting it burns
when they bite your hands.
Go out in the garden in flip-flop sandles,
they're sure to attack, assail your ankles,
their fierce red bodies charge and swarm,
they always work in unison.
Together in the midday heat,
pulling together at your feet;
a swirling microcosm of energy,
they form sandhills,
in perfect synergy.
Working together they make a spout,
at exit and entrance, they dance about.
Moving mountains every hour,
teamwork their watchword, their secret power.

Avid Reader of Indies!

I'd like to read some more Indie Authors this year in exchange for print copies. I'm especially drawn to Children's Books, Romance, Paranormal, Mystery Genres. All I ask is that you don't exchange reviews with me, and you must not know me personally.

Why do I review? Simply because I'd like to help raise the profile of good Indie Authors.

From now on unless your book merits 5 stars, I will not post the review on social media.

I will, however, still give ratings for 4 stars.

Sometimes, In Spring

Sometimes, in spring,
when blossoms blow,
I dream of ice and fire, and snow.
Of dreamy winter wonderlands,
romance of couples, holding hands.
Of starlit nights and snow-filled skies,
of snowflakes drifting before our eyes,
like cherry blossoms from the trees,
they are love letters on the breeze.

Sometimes, in winter,
in silence, deep,
when the whole world is fast asleep,
I catch a fragrance in the air,
that seems to say the spring is near.
The trees bedecked with blossoms white
glow and sparkle in the night,
shimmering echoes of love's sweet dream
whenever cherry blossom's seen.

The Iditarod.

The race is on - Anchorage to Nome,
across the Tundra, miles from home,
sled dogs hauling sleds through snow,
in the lands of eskimos!
Sinuous bodies seem to fly,
like a wolf-pack going by!
How they thunder as they run
steaming fur, in icy sun.

The race is on - Anchorage to Nome,
across the Tundra, miles from home,
racers say faster, and faster still,
the dogs are going for the kill,
over ice and frozen streams
over land of Inuit dreams,
slippery trails on the ground,
pelting paws thunder their sound.

The race is on Anchorage to Nome,
across the Tundra, miles from home,
sunburst golden gives respite
afore spring's coldest night of nights!
Noses pointed, icy breath,
heading home to get their rest,
bodies, legs and flying paws,
across the line to great applause!

The race was on, Anchorage to Nome,
and now the sled dogs all are home;
meat is plenty for them all,
winners, losers, victors all.
In soundless hours in the snow,
I can hear them as they go,
howls pierce the air like darts -
so fast they run, their beating hearts.

On A Roll - A Poem For Children.

Let's roll the dice
and we'll begin,
to see what rolls and turns and spins -
an apple, falling from a branch,
a carousel where horses prance,
the ocean when it rolls to shore,
a bouncing ball across the floor,
a skipping rope going round in loops,
a brightly painted hula hoop,
the sun that dances in the sky,
our bicycles when they go by,
the world, our planet, circling the sun,
the moon on high, when days are done,
the earth, our planet, revolving in space,
an ancient, living, wondrous place.

Killer Heels.

Going on a blind date,
the nerves make you rattle;
if she turns up
then it’s half of the battle.
Gaze into her eyes,
how soft is the voice!
And, after a while,
you’re each other’s choice.

You go to her place,
you feel home from home,
wondering why ever
you were alone.
Decide to stay over,
decide you will stay
a soulmate, a lover,
you can’t be away -
from her certain smile,
from her certain touch,
the way she beguiles,
though she doesn’t say much.

But one thing you never
thought of before;
her bookshelves
extend all the way from the floor
right up to the ceiling,
well-read she may be,
but what is this feeling?
Is it just me?

Murderers and mayhem,
ghouls and ghosts,
romance, (paranormal,)
and things you fear most -
serial assassins,
double agents and spies,
political plotters,
and tellers of lies.

You scan the bookshelves
with a casual air
reading the titles as if you don’t care
she’s in the kitchen - a smile on her face -
stirring the ingredients
of the last cold case.

A dangerous woman -
unlikely you thought,
though these days you worry,
most probably, it’s naught.
Character profiles she relishes writing,
intricate plots where lovers are fighting.

She kills the protagonist
and here's her M.O -
a blow to the head
with a black stiletto.

Between The Shadow and The Soul.*

We flicker in candlelight,
creep in the dusk,
secret interlopers,
travel in dust.
Ages of carbon
wrought mortal frames,
each one of us unique,
but always the same.
Motion of breath ‘twixt
the tongue and the lips,
I speak a name
and the name, between, slips.
Meeting of eyes,
the I and I knew,
always a surprise,
the discovery of you.
