I'm not sure that I would say I'm "aided and abetted" by the soundtracks I listen to. After all, it's no crime to be a woman and to write!
As for sharing with my characters, Billy Ocean's track, "When The Going Gets Tough," inspired the idea that the sled dogs in my book, and of course, the mushers, kept on going no matter what challenges they faced; they were tough and determined.
The lead character in my new release, "The Girl in The Red Cape" is musical, and plays the violin as well as being a champion musher.
I must admit, when I was younger I used to play the piano myself. An understanding and appreciation of music will inspire most any writer. For me, music teaches us about lyricism in writing, a delicate turn of phrase, selectiveness with words, rhythmic passages. Most of all, music, like good writing, touches our emotions with cadences that slip in like a subtle visitor, familiar and known before.
