Paris Olympic javelin champion becomes a millionaire

He received 150 million Pakistani rupees from the country’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and 100 million from Maryam Nawaz, the first female prime minister of Pakistan’s most populous state – Punjab, where the champion hails from. Nawaz also visited the javelin thrower’s native village in Mian Channu district and met his family.

The Poles were eliminated in the qualifiers

The amount is not accidental, because Pakistan is currently inhabited by more than 250 million people.

In Paris, the Pakistani overtook the world and Tokyo Games champion, Indian Neeraj Chopra (89.45) and the representative of Grenada, Anderson Peters (88.54). Marcin Krukowski and Cyprian Mrzygłód were eliminated in the qualifying round.

Nadeem will have his own postage stamp

Nadeem also received a car with a special license plate: “PAK 92.97”, referring to the Olympic record. He will also be honored by the national postal service with a commemorative stamp.

His coach Salman Iqbal Butt must be satisfied with PKR 5 million (US$ 18,000).

This is the first medal for Pakistan in 40 years

The javelin thrower won Pakistan’s first Olympic gold medal in 40 years. In 1984, the field hockey team won the Olympic championship.

The national team in this discipline was the last to reach the podium before Paris – as bronze medalists at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Samsung confirms massive free Galaxy update for millions – is your phone on the list?

If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone in your pocket but didn’t pay top dollar, we don’t blame you. The tech giant’s Most Expensive Phones go all the way up to the £1,799 Galaxy Z Fold 6, and while that price doesn’t guarantee they’re the best phones, it usually means they get the latest features and software updates.

Fortunately, Samsung knows a thing or two about taking care of its customers and is bringing a very handy software feature to its popular mid-range Galaxy A series Android phones. Called Circle to Search, it was released in January on the Galaxy S24 series, but has since appeared on other phones like the Google Pixel 8.

“This improvement highlights Samsung and Google’s continued dedication to providing the best mobile technology to as many users as possible,” Samsung said in a press release.

“Circle to Search is constantly evolving to improve its usability and intuitiveness, including full-page translation, homework help, and QR and barcode scanning features.”

Circle to Search is a feature developed by Google that allows you to freeze an image on your screen and then circle the image or text you want to search for. Then it will quickly (when you have a signal or Wi-Fi connection) do a Google search and give you the results.

You can summon Circle to search by pressing and holding Android’s home button or the gesture navigation bar, depending on whether you’re using Android’s three buttons or gesture control. It’s very intuitive to circle someone’s face to remind them which famous person it is, but it’s also worked in product testing.

If you see a pair of running shoes in an Instagram post, you can quickly figure out what model they are, and since this is Google, you’ll probably find a way to buy them there in the search results.

But since this all works from images, you’re not limited to specific apps. You can search at any time, with anything on your screen, so it’s in any app, any web page, and any photo. You can even hold your Galaxy camera’s viewfinder up against, say, a monument while you’re on vacation and hold the home button to freeze, then rotate to find what it is.

In our experience, it works well and is a great example of smartphone AI that’s really useful. Samsung announced that it will release the Circle to Search software update for the following Galaxy phones:

Galaxy A55Galaxy A54Galaxy A35Galaxy A34

The company is also adding the feature to the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Tab S9 FE+ update, the latter of which we reviewed last year and thoroughly recommend. It’s a mid-range version of Samsung’s pricier S9 range of tablets, but it’s more than powerful enough for most people, and unlike any iPad, it comes with a stylus for drawing and note-taking.

Orlen’s advertising expenses sponsoring former president Daniel Obajtek

According to data submitted to the general shareholders’ meeting Orlen Group in 2023, it allocated PLN 578.78 million for marketing and sponsorship, which, compared to PLN 410.83 million, means an increase of 40.9%. This dynamic – as in the case of sponsorship and public relations costs – is partly due to the fact that last year the annual expenses in this regard of the PGNiG group were taken into account, the acquisition of which was finalized by the company in November 2022.

Marketing and sponsorship expenses also increased on a comparable basis: in 2022, their share in the total revenues of the Orlen group was 0.2%, and a year later 0.231%. This means an increase of 15.5%.

>>> Praca.Wirtualnemedia.pl – thousands of media and marketing ads

What was this money used for? In his report to shareholders, Orlen calculated that: for the production of ATL and BTL advertisements, purchase of advertising space in the media, activities for loyalty programs (especially in the area of e-commerce and mobile applications), event projects, Vitay loyalty program and marketing research.

Last year, Orlen once again ran a holiday promotion with a 30/40 groszy per litre fuel price reduction for Vitay programme participants, supported by adverts featuring our national team players (in this year’s campaign, the discount was increased to 35/45 groszy). In turn, in the autumn, it ran an image campaign under the slogan “We are changing for Poland”, mainly concerning the terms of the merger with Grupa Lotos (the advert stated that “Lotos has not been sold”).

With regard to CSR activities, – as Orlen describes – “in 2023, the emphasis was placed on the implementation of projects related to social support and development, health promotion and protection, promotion of security in the broad sense, as well as protection of the natural environment.”

Thus, it contributed significantly to the implementation of the Orlen2030 Strategy, which presupposes the expansion and dynamic development of the retail segment, based on the expansion of the commercial network and a significant expansion of the offers – he stressed.

The company has also been the main sponsor of the Polish Olympic Committee and the Polish Paralympic Committee for years, and with the purchase of part of the assets of the Lotos Group, it became the main sponsor of the Polish Football Federation (at the beginning of last year the contract was extended for four years) and the Polish Ski Association (in addition, in the autumn of last year it became the main sponsor of the ski jumping complex in Oberstdorf, where, among other things, the Four Hills Tournament takes place).

The company also has sponsorship agreements with more than 70 clubs (led by Wisła Płock) and several dozen port workers, including disabled workers. Costs classified as representative also increased significantly – from PLN 2.93 to PLN 6.65 million. – They were mainly related to the organization of business activities of Orlen representatives during industry events in Poland and abroad, used to communicate the updated 2030 Strategy in early 2023, present the company’s position on the challenges related to energy transformation and security in the Central and Eastern European region, as well as the implementation of investment projects, maintaining existing business relations and building new business relations.

In total, Orlen Group’s expenses for marketing, sponsorship and public relations reached PLN 630.64 million in 2023, which, compared to PLN 436.8 million in the previous year, means an increase of 44.4%. Its share in the company’s total revenue increased from 0.33 to 0.385 percent, or 16.7 percent.

However, expenses for management consulting (from PLN 68.58 to PLN 73.19 million) and legal services (from PLN 54.76 to PLN 55.01 million) increased much less.

New feature in the mObywatel application

“Safely online” is a service available in the new version of the mObywatel application (version 4.39). The Ministry of Digitalization emphasized that the new function aims to allow users to “report online fraud more quickly.”

The ministry said that if disturbing or dangerous content is noticed, it can be reported under several categories. These include a malicious website (phishing for data or money), a suspicious SMS message (content or sender), a suspicious email message (attachments, blackmail or phishing, i.e. an attempt to obtain information) and fraud (e.g. attempts to impersonate companies or institutions).

As explained, each category has a designated procedure along with instructions provided to the sender. Each notification will be analyzed by a team of experts from CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) Polska, and further actions will depend on the type of incident. It was explained that in the event of a suspicious message, the user will be given the SMS number to which they should forward it, a malicious website can be reported via the app, and an attempted email fraud can be reported via the website referred to by mObywatel.

Additionally, there is an “Other” block in the app where you can report incidents in case you are not sure which category your report falls into, as it is added, it will also be reviewed by the CERT team. The “Safe Online” service also allows you to receive notifications about online abuse and fraud.

The ministry said there are plans to develop the service, for example to add more event categories and create a knowledge base for users to help them navigate the internet safely. (PAP)

These six House races are the ones to watch in this year’s elections

WASHINGTON (AP) – Resources are being poured into some highly competitive congressional races that are expected to help determine the balance of power in Washington next year.

Democrats need to flip just four seats to regain control of the House, while Republicans hope to expand their majority and make it easier to get their priorities across, something they have struggled to do in a divided government.

While the most hotly contested House races tend to feature newer incumbents who are still building their names, a few longtime congressional veterans also face races due to changes in the demographics of their districts.

Overall, control of the House is likely to be limited to the 16 Republican-held districts that Democratic President Joe Biden carried in 2020 and the five Democratic-held districts that Republican Donald Trump won. Such districts are rich targets for both parties.

Here’s a look at six of those toss-up races to watch this fall.

Maine’s 2nd Congressional District

National Republicans have previously tried to unseat three-term Democratic incumbent Jared Golden. This time, they believe they’ve found the right candidate in Republican Austin Theriault, a state legislator and former NASCAR driver.

Nearly $16 million in political advertising has been earmarked for the district, which Trump won twice. That’s a lot of ad buys in a relatively cheap market. Planned spending is roughly evenly split between Republican and Democratic groups, according to AdImpact, which tracks media buying. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., visited the area this month to highlight the importance of the race.

Golden, a Marine Corps veteran, has opposed the Biden administration in some votes. Notably, he was the only Democrat to vote against Biden’s COVID relief bill in March 2021.

Golden later voted for major bills to increase infrastructure spending and expand benefits for veterans exposed to burns and other toxic environments, and he voted for Biden’s key health and climate bill, called the Inflation Reduction Act.

New York’s 4th Congressional District

Democrats see Long Island as a prime opportunity to win back congressional seats and regain the House majority, starting with a race that features a rematch from two years ago between Republican Rep. Anthony D’Esposito and Democratic challenger Laura Gillen.

According to AdImpact, the groups plan to spend nearly $11 million on advertising in this race, with Democratic supporters earmarking nearly $7 million for ads and Republicans nearly $4 million.

Gillen also had a cash advantage as of June 30, according to the Federal Election Commission, by $2.5 million compared to D’Esposito’s nearly $2.2 million. It is unusual for a challenger to have more cash than an incumbent.

D’Esposito is a former NYPD detective who won in 2022, even though Biden carried his district by about 15 percentage points in 2020. D’Esposito has made public safety a priority in his campaigns and boasts that he has provided millions of federal dollars to help local law enforcement.

Gillen is a former supervisor of the town of Hempstead, Nassau County’s largest city, and has emphasized his support for a woman’s right to choose an abortion.

Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District

Matt Cartwright is used to competing in close competition – and winning. The Democrat began his career in Congress in 2013. Based on the resources pouring into this race, he’s in another dogfight. According to AdImpact, Democratic groups plan to spend about $13 million on ads, and Republicans more than $10 million.

His opponent is Republican Rob Bresnahan, who touts his experience as CEO of an electrical contractor and his reinvestment in local communities.

Cartwright represents a northeastern Pennsylvania district that went with Trump in 2020, even though Biden is from Scranton.

Cartwright voted against a sweeping House GOP bill to build a border wall and impose new restrictions on asylum seekers, but he’s highlighting the vote to deport criminal immigrants in his ads in an effort to curb Republican criticism of border issues.

Arizona’s 1st Congressional District

Republican Representative David Schweikert is used to winning congressional elections comfortably. No longer. Schweikert won his suburban Phoenix district by just 3,200 votes in 2022 against a relatively unknown challenger who received little support from national Democrats.

This time, the House Majority PAC, which focuses on electing Democrats, plans to spend more than $6 million on ads, compared to about $4.9 million from the leading Republican group, the Congressional Leadership Fund.

Schweikert, who is serving his seventh term, will face Amish Shah, a physician and former Arizona state representative who recently emerged victorious in the Democratic primary.

California’s 13th Congressional District

Freshman Republican Rep. John Duarte won by just 564 votes in 2022, doing so in a district where Biden was in double digits two years earlier. That makes this area in the Central Valley an automatic priority for both sides in a rematch from two years ago.

The Democratic challenger is Adam Gray, who served 10 years in the California State Assembly.

Pro-Democratic groups plan to spend about $7.6 million on ad buys. Republicans have booked about $6.1 million in airtime, according to AdImpact.

The state’s farm belt is more conservative than most of California, with cost of living and access to irrigation water both top challenges and priorities.

Duarte emphasizes his farming roots, growing grapes, almonds and pistachios, and says reining in spending in Washington would reduce inflation. Gray touts money he’s helped deliver to the region from Sacramento to store water and repair aging canals.

Democrats hope Gray will benefit from a presidential election that boosts voter turnout, unlike midterm elections that often benefit the party that doesn’t control the White House. But Duarte can take solace from winning the March primary earlier this year with nearly 55 percent of the vote to Gray’s 45 percent. In California, the top two vote-getters regardless of party advance to the general election.

Washington’s 3rd Congressional District

Democratic Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez faces Trump-backed Joe Kent in a rematch from two years ago, which the Democrat won by less than one percentage point.

Republicans see Gluesenkamp Perez as a vulnerable district, which Trump won by more than 4 percentage points in 2020. Republican groups have set aside nearly $6 million in political ad buys, while Democratic groups plan to spend about $5.3 million.

Gluesenkamp Perez supports access to abortion and policies to combat climate change, but also speaks openly about gun ownership. Meanwhile, Kent says Gluesenkamp Perez is just pretending to be moderate.

The southern border can be a decisive issue in the race. The American Action Network, a Republican-leaning advocacy group, has run ads in which the incumbent said in March 2023 that “nobody stays up at night worrying about the southern border.” He went on to state that people stay awake worrying about pocketbook issues, such as potentially losing their home or having their child drop out of school.

But the comment has clearly become a focal point for Republicans, who accuse Democrats of not doing enough to curb illegal immigration.

In campaign ads, Gluesenkamp Perez emphasizes his willingness to work with Republicans on border issues. The ad, with some local public safety officials endorsing him, ends with him saying he accepts the message of “doing everything we can to secure the border and keep Washington safe.”

Silicon Motion Demonstrates Flexible Data Placement on MonTitan Gen 5 Enterprise SSD Platform

At FMS 2024, the technology requirements of the storage and memory subsystem took center stage. Both SSD and controller vendors ran various demos touting their suitability for different stages of the AI data pipeline—ingest, prepare, train, checkpoint, and infer. Vendors like Solidigm have different types of SSDs optimized for different stages of the pipeline. At the same time, controller vendors took advantage of one of the features recently introduced in the NVM Express standard—Flexible Data Placement (FDP).

FDP is where the host provides information/hints on where the controller could place incoming write data to reduce write amplification. These hints are generated based on specific block sizes advertised by the device. The feature is completely backward compatible, and non-FDP-aware hosts work just like before with FDP-aware SSDs and vice versa.

Silicon Motion’s MonTitan Gen 5 Enterprise SSD platform was announced in 2022. Since then, Silicon Motion has touted the platform’s flexibility, allowing its customers to incorporate their own features as part of the customization process. This approach is common in the enterprise space, as we’ve seen with Marvell’s Bravera SC5 SSD controller in DapuStor SSDs and Microchip’s Flashtec controllers in Longsys FORESEE Enterprise SSDs.

At FMS 2024, the company demonstrated the benefits of flexible data placement by allowing a single MonTitan-based QLC SSD to participate in different stages of an AI data pipeline while maintaining the required quality of service (minimum throughput) for each process. The company even has a proprietary name (PerformaShape) for a firmware feature in the controller that allows it to isolate different concurrent SSD accesses (from different stages of the AI data pipeline) to guarantee that quality of service. Silicon Motion says this scheme will allow its customers to get the maximum possible write performance from QLC SSDs without negatively impacting the performance of other types of accesses.

Silicon Motion and Phison both have market leaders in consumer SSD controllers, with similar approaches. However, their marketing of enterprise SSD controllers could not be more different. While Phison has opted for a turnkey solution with its Gen 5 SSD platform (to the point of not white-labeling the generation, opting instead to qualify SSDs with various cloud providers), Silicon Motion is taking a different approach. The flexibility and customization could make platforms like MonTitan attractive to flash array vendors.

Is Bitcoin (BTC) Price Headed For A $70,000 Breakout Or $40,000 Crash?

Bitcoin (BTC) price dropped by 4 percent over the past 24 hours to trade around $58,413 on Thursday, during the early Asian session. Therefore, the flagship coin is currently retesting the support level around $58k after it was repeatedly rejected at the resistance range between $61k and $62k.

Following the recent daily death cross between the 50 and 200 Moving Averages (MAs), fears of further Bitcoin capitulation have increased significantly.

As Bitcoin’s price fell to $58,000 earlier today, Bitcoin’s fear and greed index dropped to 29 percent, indicating increased fears of further capitulation.

Moreover, since March this year, the price of Bitcoin against the US dollar has been showing both lower lows and lower highs, which is characteristic of a downtrend.

Bitcoin Whales on the Move

Amid increased Bitcoin price volatility, on-chain data shows that whales and sharks have dramatically increased their activity. For example, a US-affiliated wallet deposited 10,000 Bitcoins, worth nearly $600 million, to Coinbase Prime in the past 24 hours. In total, the US government has deposited approximately 16,000 Bitcoins to Coinbase in 2024.

Currently, the US government holds approximately 203k Bitcoins, worth around $11.9 billion. The recent influx follows presidential candidate Donald Trump’s pledge that the US government will no longer sell the coins if he is elected later this year.

Meanwhile, BlackRock’s IBIT recorded net cash inflows of over $33 million on Wednesday, despite notable cash outflows from Grayscale’s GBTC and Fidelity’s FBTC. It’s worth noting that Morgan Stanley announced a $187 million purchase of BlackRock’s IBIT.

Earlier today, Bitcoin miner Marathon Digital announced that it had completed the sale of $300 million in long-term convertible senior notes to purchase more BTC. The announcement follows the revelation that the Norwegian and Swiss central banks have already purchased more than 1.5 million MicroStrategy shares combined in the recent past.

What now?

Bitcoin price is expected to benefit significantly from the upcoming US elections and possible interest rate cuts next month. Notably, Wednesday’s CPI data suggested that US inflation is slowing, pointing to possible interest rate cuts soon.

From a technical standpoint, Bitcoin price could be on the verge of a major bullish breakout to its all-time high or a significant crash towards $40k. However, if Bitcoin price closely follows that of Toncoin (TON), a potential rebound will push the flagship coin towards $64k soon.

Will Mbappe score 50 goals in a season? Real Madrid coach responds after Warsaw debut

Real Madrid won the UEFA Super Cup 2-0 against Atalanta Bergamo at the National Stadium in Warsaw. Coach Carlo Ancelotti may have been pleased with Kylian Mbappe’s debut, which ended with a goal, although England’s Jude Bellingham was recognised as the man of the match, assisting the Frenchman’s goal (the first was scored by Fede Valverde).

Real-Atalanta. Jude Bellingham and Carlo Ancelotti at Kylian Mbappe’s debut

Jude Bellingham, when asked after the match about Kylian Mbappé’s performance, praised not only his skills but also the relationships he had already established within the team: – Only up close can you see all the fantastic details of Kylian Mbappé’s game: his speed, how he plays without the ball, his communication with his teammates. The Real Madrid dressing room welcomed him very well and I think Kylian will win many trophies with us. We expected him to score a goal on his Super Cup debut against Atalanta in Warsaw and I’m happy he did so with my assist. He’s a player who can write his own story in every game.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti, when asked about the Frenchman at the conference, added his share of praise: – Can Mbappé score 50 goals in a season? He has the quality to score many of them. However, we have to find balance in the team. Atalanta made it difficult for us in the first half. After the break, however, we had a bit more space and our attacking quality was decisive. We played a great defensive game, says Real Madrid’s Italian coach and highlights that Mbappé “works very well with his teammates”.

Real-Atalanta. Jude Bellingham delights fans in Warsaw

Englishman Jude Bellingham, when asked by a representative of the Polish website about Real Madrid, could not praise the local fans enough. – The fans here were great from the moment we arrived: at the airport and then at the hotel. It’s always a pleasure to play for a new audience, who don’t see us every day. That’s why we wanted to leave good memories for them. I remember when I was younger, I would watch the games and the players alone, thinking I would never have the chance to meet them. You will remember that for the rest of your life. That’s why I really appreciate places like today, the atmosphere was great – says Jude Bellingham.

Controversy surrounding an initial loan

In mid-July, the Ministry of Development and Technology presented a new bill on A loan to get startedwith a plan for its implementation in mid-January 2025.

Although the program contains provisions designed to prevent price increases, Some experts, including the Ministry of Finance, believe that price increases are inevitable, as the newspaper recalls.

Limited availability of apartments

The Ministry of Family emphasized that the expected increase in real estate prices could still limit the availability of housingdue to the need for greater solvency. The National Bank of Poland and the finance, climate and justice ministries have also raised numerous objections to the project.

Experts on a Startup Loan

In turn, experts from Rednet Property Group have a different opinion. They believe that the new program will not only not increase housing prices, but will also will help to gradually stabilize them. According to analysts cited by “Puls Biznesu”, the current situation on the real estate market is significantly different from that which accompanied the introduction of the Safe 2% loan.

In the first half of 2023, just before the entry into force of BK2, fewer than 17,000 new apartments were sold in the seven largest Polish cities and their agglomerations. However, in the first half of this year this figure increased by 94%. There is now a large supply of new properties on the market, and in some cities prices have even started to fall. Thanks to the large new supply, developers have started to compete with each other, said Robert Chojnacki, founder of Rednet Property Group.

According to Sławomir Horbaczewski, a real estate market manager whose views were cited by “PB”, the ideal solution would be to renounce any aid programs or, alternatively, to quickly and clearly select specific solutions and then implement them consistently, which would ensure transparency in the market.
