xAI: You want to solve the math

Elon Musk’s new company xAI is one of the most mysterious start-ups in Silicon Valley. In July, the website simply announced: “xAI’s goal is to understand the true nature of the universe,” including the 12 minds of its founding employees. In November, Musk posted a few screenshots of the new chatbot Grok, which led to all sorts of speculation. If you go to the site today, you’ll learn that Grok is “an AI modeled on The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy .” The bot was developed “to answer questions with a bit of humor” and has “a rebellious streak.”

The world's 'lightest gaming laptop' HP Omen Transcend 14 is introduced at CES and these are the specs

Windows Report has obtained several specifications about the upcoming HP Omen Transcend 14. The gaming laptop should be equipped with a new Meteor Lake processor and an RTX 4070 from Nvidia. The laptop should also be the lightest gaming laptop in the world, at least according to the marketing material.

The HP Omen Transcend line was introduced in March with the Omen Trancend 16, a 16-inch model. This laptop can be equipped with both an AMD and an Intel CPU. According to information from Windows Report, the line will soon be expanded with a 14-inch model. HP would advertise the laptop as ‘the world’s lightest 14-inch gaming laptop’. The laptop is said to weigh 1.637 kg, which is significantly less than the Razer Blade 14 which weighs 1.84 kg. Asus would soon release a new version of its ROG Zephyrus G14 that is very similar in weight at 1.65 kg. In terms of thickness, the HP laptop should be about the same as the Razer Blade 14.

The Omen Transcend 14 may only be supplied with Intel processors. The top model would contain an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H in combination with an Nvidia Geforce RTX 4070 with 8GB of RAM. The laptop should also have up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X ram at 7,467MT/s and a maximum of a 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. It is not clear what the TGP of the laptop should be. There would be two fans to cool these parts. The laptop has a 16:10 OLED screen, with 2880×1800 pixels, 500 nits brightness, and 120 Hz refresh rate. The battery should be 71 Wh and the laptop should be able to charge a maximum of 140W. Most likely, the laptop will be announced by HP at CES 2024.

Windows 11 update causes Wi-Fi connection problems in universities – Update fix

Original message 12/18/2023, 6:47 PM –

The Windows 11 security update KB5033375 released this month is reportedly causing some users in “semi-public” places like universities and businesses to have trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi access point. Most users report that the WiFi connection is suddenly very slow, and in other cases it may no longer be possible to connect at all.

Windows Latest discovered the notifications and saw that several universities have already advised students to undo this update. The site cites US and UK universities, but based on a Reddit thread, universities in the Netherlands and Belgium are also affected. So it seems to be a fairly widespread problem, although the exact cause is still unclear. Windows Latest speculates that it has to do with the operating system’s Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol settings, as the problem appears to occur on Wi-Fi connections that run via this security protocol.

So, in addition to uninstalling the KB5033375 update, switching to the eap-tls protocol may solve the problem. In addition, it is claimed on Reddit that disabling the 802.11r standard (which allows seamless switching from one access point to another) also solves the problem, but this leads to roaming problems. Microsoft has not yet indicated that it is aware of the problem. So it remains to be seen whether a fix will be released.

Update 12/20/2023, 6:29 AM –

Microsoft confirms via the Windows Release Health Dashboard that Windows 11 users may experience Wi-Fi issues after installing KB5032288 (or KB5033375). The company is currently investigating the cause and calls on those affected to report the problem via the Feedback Hub:

Open the Feedback Hub via Windows key + F Summarize the feedback Highlight the ‘Problem’ category and choose ‘Network and Internet’ and ‘Connect to a Wi-Fi network’ as subcategories Under ‘Find similar feedback’, select ‘New feedback’ Provide additional details (optional) Choose ‘Reconstruct my problem’, ‘Start recording’ and reproduce the problem Finally, click ‘Stop Recording’ and ‘Send’ Update 20-12-2023, 12:58 –

Microsoft has now confirmed that the connection problems are caused by updates KB5032288 and KB5033375. These versions are now being rolled back via Known Issue Rollback, which should resolve the issues. It may take up to 24 hours for this process to be initiated automatically. By restarting the Windows system, the KIR may be applied more quickly. For IT administrators there is also a new Group Policy, which can be downloaded via the Health Dashboard.

Nvidia Geforce RTX 5000 series should be ready to hit the market in one year

The Nvidia video cards that are intended to replace the current ‘Ada Lovelace’ generation; Blackwell should be ready to come to consumers around the holidays next year. This is according to a new video from Moore’s Law is Dead.

The YouTuber, now infamous for his many, relatively often correct, predictions about upcoming hardware, now predicts that the next generation of Nvidia video cards could see the light of day in Q4 of next year. This would mainly depend on the sales of RTX 4000 (Super) GPUs and when AMD would like to put its new RDNA 4 GPUs on the market. The RTX 5000 series should gain a lot in efficiency due to TSMC’s improved 3nm process. The clock speeds should also be able to increase considerably and, in combination with a significantly improved memory bandwidth, this in turn also improves performance. The performance in rasterization would not increase very much, but this could be adjusted somewhat by disabling more or fewer cuda cores compared to the previous generation. More available cuda cores means lower yields, but depending on what AMD’s competition looks like, Nvidia could adjust the performance level.

The Blackwell GPUs should be released around the same time as Intel’s Arrow Lake CPUs and AMD’s new Strix APUs. These lines are both for laptops. Windows 12 may also have been released around that time, which would have an emphasis on ‘AI PCs’, which should stimulate the PC market somewhat. According to Tom from Moore’s Law is Dead, the RTX 5000 cards will be announced no later than CES 2025. Nvidia may release more information about the Blackwell architecture at GTC 2024.

PlayStation Games on PC: Are They Worth It?

Sony has released exclusive PlayStation titles on PC through platforms such as Steam and GOG.com. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War and Days Gone did well, while Spider-Man and Uncharted were less successful. Although Sony previously indicated that the games performed well, figures have now been leaked showing sales figures on Steam.

Horizon Zero Dawn sold 3.3 million copies on Steam, followed by God of War with 2.5 million and Days Gone with 1.7 million. Days Gone, which was not very noticeable on console, did surprisingly well on PC, possibly due to a good PC implementation. Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales fared less well, which can partly be attributed to their recent release compared to the other games. Sackboy, a platform game, sold 65,000 copies.

According to data from Steam Spy, here are estimated sales figures:

Horizon: 1,000,000 – 2,000,000 God Of War: 2,000,000 – 5,000,000 Days Gone: 1,000,000 – 2,000,000 Spider-Man: 2,000,000 – 5,000,000 Uncharted: 200,000 – 500,000 Miles Morales: 200,000 – 500,000 Sackboy: 20,000 – 50,000

It is notable that The Last of Us Part 1 does not appear in the figures. It has been available on Steam since March 28. Sony is also planning PC releases for God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Forbidden West. In the first two years, Sony estimated $250 million in revenue from its PC variants. While this is impressive, it remains unclear how much it costs to port games to PC and how profitable this is for the company.

The State returns to the capital of Telefónica 26 years after its privatization

The Government left the operator to liberalize the ‘telecos’, and now an excess of competition is causing its return, given the collapse of prices and the appearance of foreign investors.

In 1997, with José María Aznar as president of the Spanish Government and Juan Villalonga as president of Telefónica, the State undertook the privatization of the 21% it held in the capital of the historic Spanish telecommunications monopoly, p

Telefónica, the largest state investment after Aena, Airbus and CaixaBank

The acquisition by Sepi of up to 10% in Telefónica would have a stock market value of slightly more than 2,000 million.

The acquisition by Sepi of up to 10% of Telefónica’s capital will substantially increase the list of listed companies with state participation, either through the entity chaired by Belén Gualda or other public entities.

The Government in Telefónica, for what?

It is necessary to know if Sánchez is remembering the times when Zapatero, with Minister Sebastián as an advance guard, intended to control large companies from La Moncloa or only intends to take precautions.

Yesterday there was a malicious joke in Madrid. What do Franco and Pedro Sánchez have in common? Well, the two are a unit of destiny in the universal. Both have demonstrated an innate vocation to intervene in the economy from the State. One created the INI

The metaverse is built from augmented reality

Virtual universes, which offer opportunities in numerous sectors of activity, can become factors of change in the way we use the Internet.

Although the emergence of artificial intelligence in the last year has partially eclipsed other technologies, the metaverse maintains its promise of unleashing a true revolution in the way we conceive and use the Internet in the future. “Augmented reality is the first natural step towards the metaverse, with different applications that already work in reality,” said Pepa Rojo, creative director of Meta in Iberia , yesterday at the meeting organized by EXPANSIÓN .

One of these use cases is facial recognition tools that are already used to unlock or give access to certain functions on mobile phones. It is not the only example: in the National Prado Museum, Meta ‘s technology has been used to create an augmented reality filter that allows the user to interact with some of the birds that Hieronymus Hieronymus painted in the triptych of The Garden of Earthly Delights . The company led by Mark Zuckerberg has made a firm commitment to lead the metaverse race.

Pepa Rojo emphasized that the metaverse makes it possible to establish a close connection with people who are not in the same physical environment, but “the success of this future has rules linked to responsibility, privacy, ethics and values, diversity and inclusion.

“After a first stage in which there was a lot of expectation around the metaverse, perhaps we are now in a consolidation phase,” said Soraya Cadalso, CEO and co-founder of Uttopion . This start up, which has developed the first metaverse created in Spain , offers virtual lands with different associated services that range from finance to art and insurance.

Cadalso explained that ” these virtual worlds or metaverses are the result of a cluster of different enabling technologies , and they focus on the simultaneity of users: they can interact and consume real content, in places where things happen and experiences are lived.” In this sense, artificial intelligence is one of the technologies with which the metaverse is called to coexist.

Regarding the practical usefulness of the metaverse, Pepa Rojo pointed out that there are multiple sectors that host interesting applications. Among others, the person in charge of Meta in Spain indicated that this virtual universe offers opportunities to innovate in the field of education that business schools have already begun to take advantage of. On a more industrial level, some companies already use this technology to create digital twins that facilitate maintenance and repair of breakdowns.

Likewise, the creative director of Meta was convinced that ” artificial intelligence and the metaverse are two very different technologies but that, inevitably, they are going to come together .”

For her part, Soraya Cadalso highlighted its potential for monitoring and assistance in the field of health , with cases that range from monitoring the heart in case of conditions such as atrial fibrillation to the attention of medical assistants in time. real.

Uttopion has also explored areas such as the world of art: in March of this year it collaborated with the Teatro Real to broadcast the first live opera in the metaverse. “It is a great opportunity to bring certain experiences or content closer to a generation that lives on these platforms,” said its CEO and co-founder.
