A short snippet this week on WIP It Up Wednesdaay #wipitup

A shortie this week - everyone's probably going crazy with getting stuff done.
Darien's just been rescued by his brother.
"Fuck, you stink." Brian slapped one hand over his mouth and nose as he pressed the gas pedal."Just drive." Darien reached for the window switch and pressed down."There's blood on your hand. You kill somebody?"Darien lifted his hand to catch the glow of the passing streetlights. A smear of red spread from his palm to the back of his hand. His stomach flipped. Fuck off, stomach. There's nothing left in you. "No, I didn't kill anybody and thank you for thinking your little brother could do something like that.""Well you're the one who got expelled from school for beating the shit out Mark Lebrun for calling me a fag.""You are a fag. But he didn't need to be a dick.""Brotherly love. Ain't it wonderful?" His brother looked out the window. "Oh shit. Road block. Crawl in the backseat and look passed out."Darien climbed over the mid console and collapsed across the back seat. Faking being dead drunk wasn't going to be a problem now that he was convinced he'd live through the rest of the night. He felt the Hummer stop and heard the swish of the window as it opened. His brother chuckled. "Just my brother. It's his stag party tonight. Gotta get the groom home and sober for tomorrow. Thanks, officer." Darien counted to fifty to ensure they were far enough away from the road block. He then forced his eyes open and crawled into the front seat. "Good thinking under pressure. Why couldn't you come up with something that good when Mom caught us smoking up?""Years of practice since then. Settle back. We'll be home in about twenty minutes."Resting his head back against the leather seat, a chuckle bubbled up and escaped Darien's lips. "So how was your day? Wanna here about mine?"

Jenna Jaxon talks about writing her Regency romance - A Kiss Beneath the Mistletoe

It All Began with Christmas in JulyFour and a half years ago I was taking a five week seminar on Shakespeare in wonderful Washington, DC. I was a fairly new author at the time with a very active blog. And I had very little time between reading Shakespeare and going to my seminar classes to write, although every spare minute was given over to writing. I needed a feature for July, one of the hottest months in DC as far as I’m concerned, so to cool me down I hit upon the idea of Christmas in July—a series of four flash fiction Christmas pieces, 2500 words or less, one for each week in July. Cool idea, right?I loved my little Christmas stories, that ended up as two contemporary and two historical tales. The final historical, ‘Tis the Season, was actually my favorite. Set in Victorian England it was a story of a girl who reaches her eighteenth birthday, ready for her come-out in the spring, only to be told she’s been betrothed from birth to the boy next door. She’s distraught and defiant until the young man in question assures her that he won’t agree to marry her. He insists she have her London Season with all the trappings: parties, dances, theatres, carriage rides, beaux. But he also tells her he will be there also trying to win her hand and her heart. And in the epilogue we see that he did indeed win his lady. The story ended there for me, until a chance comment on my blog made me see there was more to it. This commenter (I wish I remembered who it was) said they wanted to know about the heroine’s season and how the hero won the girl. I loved that idea and put it on the back burner. The Christmas stories were published that November as an anthology called All Wrapped Up.This year I finally expanded the short into a novella and Jenny and Alec’s story is now released as A Kiss Beneath the Mistletoe. There are, however, several significant differences between the two books. ’Tis the Season was about Jenny’s lost season, hence the title. By the time I finished the novella, I realized the story wasn’t so much about her season as it was about her being kissed underneath the mistletoe. The short story intimates that Jenny does have a season in London; A Kiss Beneath the Mistletoe takes place during a house party during the Christmas season, so Jenny does not get her season in London, per se. The hero’s name was also changed. Originally it was Thomas, however, since I wrote ‘Tis the Season, I published my medieval series Time Enough to Love where one of the heroes’ names is Thomas. So I changed this hero to Alexander and called him Alec for short. The ending is also changed slightly to give a subliminal little surprise to the reader. The story is sweet, except for a bit of a “naughty” subtext at the end. I’ll let you read that part for yourselves. :) So that is how ‘Tis the Seasonbecame A Kiss Beneath the Mistletoe.
Is one kiss ever enough?BLURB:Jenny Crowley has been duped! At her eighteenth birthday celebration her parents announce that instead of having the London Season she’s dreamed of for years, Jenny has been betrothed from birth to Alexander Isley, son of family friends and heir to a title. A distraught Jenny refuses point-blank to marry Alec, and when her aunt offers to whisk her away to a Christmas house party, complete with many eligible young bachelors, Jenny jumps at the chance to enjoy a variety of entertainments, be courted, and perhaps fall in love.Alec Isley is between a rock and a hard place. He desires a marriage with Jenny no more than she does, but when his family’s dire financial status is revealed, he follows Jenny to the house party in hopes of convincing her to marry him after all. When he discovers who else is courting her there, Alec is frantic to keep her from making a dreadful mistake. Struggling with new-found feelings for his childhood friend, can Alec convince her of his love in time to save her from being ruined under the mistletoe?
Excerpt:“Aunt Arabella, what is this running the mistletoe Lady Celinda told me about? I’ve not heard of it before.”“Well, that is a bit of a story.” Her aunt laughed and linked arms with her. “It’s a particular custom in Marbury’s family. His mother is German and when she married, she brought a lot of those customs to England. That’s why we celebrate Christmas with a Christmas tree.”“I’d wondered about that,” Jenny said with a smile. “Mama thought it very odd when she first heard of it.”“Many people do, although Queen Charlotte had one for many years.”“Yes, I’d heard that as well. And we are to decorate it this afternoon, aunt?” It sounded like a fun time. “And the Snapdragon? We will have that as well, won’t we?”“Of course.” Aunt Arabella stopped to look around. “This way,” she called to the larger party following behind them and pointed to several large evergreen trees on her left.“But what is running the mistletoe?” Jenny had almost forgotten about that mysterious event.Aunt Arabella laughed, a ringing sound in the crisp air. “You know what mistletoe is?”Jenny nodded. She’d seen sprigs of it hung over the doorway at home at Christmas and caught her parents kissing under it a time or two.“Well, when we come to cut greenery for the house, we also find a ball of mistletoe to take back as well.” Her eyes twinkled. “Be careful going through the doorways for the next couple of weeks, Jenny. You don’t know who you’ll meet coming the opposite way. I suspect you’ll end up collecting a lot of little white berries.”“What do you mean, aunt?” Collecting berries? How odd.“For each kiss, the gentleman cuts off one of the berries and gives it to the young lady he kissed.”Jenny’s cheeks heated despite the nipping cold, and her aunt laughed.“But since the ball we find out here is high off the ground, we do something different in the woods. The story goes that several generations ago, in the Dowager Viscountess’s family, an earlier Viscount Marbury arrived with letters of introduction from England. According to family history, he was out in the woods with a large party, searching for a Christmas tree to cut down. He spied some mistletoe high in a tree, directly above a pretty young lady of the family. He gave a great shout and began to chase her. She screamed and ran, but he caught her underneath the mistletoe and kissed her hand.” Aunt Arabella smiled. “Marbury’s family has continued this tradition, although it’s changed a bit from that original run. Now the participants line up and the young men dare the ladies to run underneath the mistletoe. They give them a five count start and if they can catch them by the time they reach the mistletoe ball, they can claim a kiss.” Her aunt grinned and whispered, “That’s how I met Marbury.”“Really, Aunt?” Jenny’s heart beat a little faster. Would she fall in love with someone who caught her under the mistletoe?

Book Blurb:To protect his pack, he must guard his heart.
Lost on Bodmin Moor, twelve-year-old Talia Summers was cold, hurt and terrified, before being saved by a black panther that materialized out of the night.
Years later, Talia returns to the moor in search of that magnificent beast, but instead finds a man leading a clan of shape shifters. Yet the connection she remembers is strangely absent. She despairs of ever finding it again—until a stranger steps into her shower.
Back to claim his rightful place, Caleb McLeod’s fierce attraction to his half-brother’s female is tempered by the fact she’s a human. Worse, a journalist. He’ll not have his people’s survival threatened by a human female who continually pushes the boundaries of pack rules.
His solution? Mate with her. Control her. And if his brother doesn’t like it, they’ll simply have to share. For now.
But suspicion and lies threaten the growing bond between Talia and Caleb, and the past has a way of catching up. A way of destroying the bridge built between two worlds…between two hearts.

Excerpt:Since she’d deliberately gotten home early, Talia headed straight to the kitchen to put lasagna in the oven. She intended to make the evening special, to make up for some of the tension between her and Joshua.
Since the day was hot, unbearably so, she headed to the shower.
She’d expected Josh to be home, but wasn’t overly worried. He’d likely taken himself off to the moor and hadn’t yet gotten her text asking him to join her.
Thinking it might bring them closer if he’d shared that part of himself, Talia had once asked him to shift in front of her, but he’d steadfastly refused. It was his time, he’d said. Something he couldn’t share with anyone, even her.
Many times when she woke in the night he would be gone. On his return, he’d often wake her and they would make love. Lately, he’d come home with a restless energy. She’d feel him slide into bed, turn over and slip into a troubled sleep.
Maybe it was all part of being a shapeshifter. Something to do with the phases of the moon.
She stripped off her work clothes, put the shower on cool, and stepped beneath the spray. Closing her eyes, she enjoyed the feel of the water against her skin and let the tension of the day slide off her shoulders.
Over the spray of water, she heard the click of the back door. Joshua was home. She didn’t call out. He’d hear the shower soon enough, and by the time he reached the bathroom he would have stripped out of his clothes.
How was it that all their problems seemed to fall away when they had sex? Here, they were compatible. Here, they saw eye to eye.
So why did she still crave something that possibly didn’t even exist?
Unbidden, her thoughts slipped back to that night she’d gotten lost on the moor. Why in heaven was she thinking about it so often these days? It was as if something called to her, made her more aware of her longing for what she’d experienced back then. Josh had been a young panther, he’d told her, running solo for the first time. Most of his kind didn’t experience shifting until they reached puberty, and they had to run with more experienced members until they learned the secrets and challenges of the moor.
She’d been so desperate to learn more, to talk to him about that night and how much it had meant to her, but he was always circumspect. Probably because shifters weren’t supposed to talk about their experiences on the moor, especially not with humans.
Pushing the thoughts away, she continued to soap herself, anticipating the moment the bathroom door would open and Joshua would stand there in all his glory and ready to play. With her free hand, she reached out and rubbed at the steamy shower screen, giving herself a clear window through which she would be able to see him. She could hear his footsteps—weird how attuned she was becoming to sound, scent and vision. It was almost as if her own senses had sharpened since she’d mated with a shifter. Perhaps that was a side effect? She’d have to check it out with Joshua. That was, if he’d be willing to discuss it.
The footsteps seemed to wander from room to room, and she speculated as to what particular game Joshua was playing. Had he thought of yet another inventive way to string out the anticipation? To make her wait for him so that she was so hot by the time he reached her that she’d be desperate to jump him?
She’d be damned if she’d call out to him, because that was probably one of his intentions. Instead, she kept her mouth shut and determined to play whatever game they were in the middle of. She unhooked the shower attachment, and held it ready at chest level, so that when he opened the door to the shower cubicle, she’d be in the perfect position to blast him.
She bit down on her bottom lip. Denied the warmth of the shower water, she shivered from both the cool air on her flesh and the thought of what was to come. Knowing Josh, he’d be pissed when she drenched him, but a pissed and aroused Joshua was often a joy to behold.
The footsteps grew louder and seconds later, the slow squeak of the door signaled his arrival. Since her peephole had steamed up again, she couldn’t see him, but smiled as the dark shadow approached the cubicle door. She hummed softly, sashayed a little, so that he’d think she was unaware of his presence and was simply enjoying her shower.
The shadow remained outside the door, perfectly still and strangely menacing. Something niggled, seeming a little off. Did Josh seem taller, broader? She mentally nudged it away as a trick of the light, and possibly her own arousal. But goose-bumps lifted the tiny hairs on her arms and she gripped the showerhead tighter.
Without warning, the cubicle door swung open and Talia had the breath knocked out of her momentarily as the cold snap of air whooshed into the small space. Narrowing her eyes, she raised the showerhead and let the spray hit Josh full in the face.
“What the hell?”
The deep curse that echoed around the bathroom and the strong hand that clasped her wrist belonged not to her husband, but some brute of a man who towered over her while she stood naked and trembling.
“Who…what do you think you’re d-doing?”
With his free hand, he wiped his drenched face. “My question exactly, sweetheart.”
His deep green eyes glared at her, his grip tightening around her wrist so that she dropped the showerhead to the floor. In the process, it sprayed them both with water, soaking his dark gray T-shirt and jeans. It earned her another dark curse.
She tried to scream, but nothing came out. So she did the next best thing. She fought. Kicking, hitting out with her free hand, and meeting nothing but rock-solid muscle.
“Get out!” She lashed out once more, tugging furiously at his grip on her and trying in vain to get free of him. Her breath backed up in her lungs, all her muscles tight and trembling. “Let go of me!”
He wiped his face again, the lower part of it sporting dark stubble. Talia let her gaze skim over him, trying to memorize his features for when she had to give a description to the police. God. He was built like a truck. His neck alone would rival the span of her waist, while his chest rippled and heaved beneath the soaked shirt.
Suddenly aware of her nakedness, she ceased her perusal. “If you don’t let go of me, I’ll scream. So help me, I’ll scream loud enough to wake the dead.”
He only grinned at that, yet there was little humor in it. Feral, she thought dazedly. He reminded her of a determined predator…
Bloody hell. Was he a shifter? A member of a visiting pack? It seemed to happen pretty frequently, but from what she knew, they didn’t engage in breaking and entering.
The thought that this man might be a shifter terrified her. She knew of their strength, of their power. Of their primal charm and charisma…which had to explain the sudden resurgence of arousal that powered through her trembling body.
“Go ahead and scream. There’s nobody around to hear you.”
He was right, of course, and she shivered with alarm. Most of their neighbors were at work, and the house itself was on the edge of the moor, its strategic position giving the pack’s leader both status and tactical strength.
She raised her chin and made herself stare him straight in the eye. “You don’t scare me.”
Another feral grin. “Is that so?” He glanced insolently down at her breasts and the hard, pebbled nipples that rose to attention. “But it sure looks like I do something to you, sweetheart.”
She gasped, and he abruptly released his hold on her and stepped back. Since he was still blocking her exit from the cubicle, Talia couldn’t reach the towel she’d placed on the railing outside without brushing her body against him. She crossed one arm to cover her breasts, then reached down to palm her hand over her center.
When he glanced to where her hands were purposefully placed, she suffered the punch of his assessing gaze and felt more naked than ever.
“If you leave now, I won’t report you,” she stated, thankful that her voice had regained some of its authority. “Just go.”
In answer, he raised his arm over his head and grabbed the back of his sodden shirt. Effortlessly, he shrugged it off and dropped it to the floor.
Eyeing his chest, Talia swallowed. She’d thought Joshua’s chest was ripped, but this man’s was something else. Scars scored the wide expanse of hard, solid muscle, crisscrossing as if someone had planned to create a specific pattern there. But they did little to mar the sheer masculine perfection of his upper body. Down the right side of his torso, a deeper, angrier-looking scar traveled from his ribcage to disappear beneath his jeans.
So lost in her heady examination, she didn’t realize he’d moved closer to her.
She jerked back, flattening herself against the cubicle wall. “Don’t you dare touch me.”
He spared her a glance. “Just undertaking some damage control. If my jeans get any wetter, I’ll need to ditch them, then there’ll be two of us naked in this shower.” He reached around her to turn off the faucet. “From your overreaction so far, I’m not sure you’d be too happy about that.”
“My overreaction?” The absolute nerve of the jerk. “You’ve barged in here, threatened me—”
“Wasn’t aware I’d done anything to you.”
She half expected him to add yet, but he strolled across to the railing and picked up the towel she’d placed there. He tossed it to her, making her almost giddy with relief. If he was going to let her dry herself, surely his intentions weren’t quite as dishonorable as she’d feared.
She wrapped the towel tightly around herself, keeping her gaze firmly on him. He went over to the rack and selected another towel with which he proceeded to dry himself.
Her fears shot into orbit again when he positioned himself in front of the bathroom door, effectively barring her escape the way he had in the cubicle. Gingerly, she stepped out. If she could at least get access to the bathroom cabinet, she might be able to select something to use as a weapon.
“What’s your name?”
The question took her by surprise and she jerked her chin toward him. “I should be asking you that. So I know who to report when I make my statement to the police.”
Perhaps in retrospect, she shouldn’t antagonize him, but the nerve of the man. Breaking into her home, terrorizing her, demanding to know her name as if she were the intruder.
He laughed. “And just how many arrests has old Bill Tucker made recently?”
“You know him?”
“Since I was a kid. And if we’re talking arrests, maybe I should be the one pressing charges.”
“I don’t know what you mean. Now will you please stand aside and let me out of this bathroom?”
He threw the damp towel onto a nearby chair. “You’re not going anywhere, sweetheart. At least not until you answer my question.”
Since he’d planted his feet and crossed his arms over his massive chest, Talia swallowed down fresh tension. “What…what question?”
“Just what the hell are you doing in my house?”

LINK BACK TO WWW
From the best selling box set- Crashing Into Love - Brace for Impact. Scene set - Lori, rookie flight attendant's plane has just made an emergency crash landing in the Caribbean. An evacuation chute accidentally opening inside the plane has knocked into Lori. (I couldn't leave you over Christmas wondering what happened to poor Lori :-) )
Guy gripped his fingers around the flight attendant's upper arm and pulled with all his strength. The damn evacuation chute pinned her. He knelt and tucked his hand under her head, lifting her face above the seawater. Water streamed down her cheeks. He brushed it away. Her name tag attached to the lanyard floated on the surface. He held it close to his face and peered at it in the darkness. Lori.

Crashing Into Love is a box set of 7 stories written by 6 spectacular authors and myself. Each story is based on an airplane crash, fight for survival and romance. The idea was the brain child of D'Ann Lindun and Brenda Dyer.
Blurb - Crashing Into Love –Seven planes lift off…seven planes crash…seven stories of struggle, passion and love in the barren Canadian Wilderness, the coast of England, or the steamy heat of a tropical island. Romance hangs in the balance between survival and death.
Blurb - Brace for Impact by Daryl Devoré. What could be simpler than a routine plane trip from Toronto, Canada to Caracas, Venezuela for rookie flight attendant, Lori, and sexy R.C.M.P. officer, Guy Lapierre? But Fate had other intentions.

Daryl Devore's book was fantastic also it was probably one of my favorites of the set. I was crying at the end thinking the worst but it turned out great.

What are your favorite Christmas Treats? Books, of course! Stop by each blog for a chance to win fabulous books & gifties for the Holidays!
What book would I want for Christmas - whatever Kathy Reichs' latest is. What I read for pleasure are mysteries. I read a lot of romance when I edit or do a beta read for fellow writers and when I just want to kick back - it's a mystery I go to. Been reading mysteries since I could read.
My current favourite author is the lady who inspired the TV show Bones - Kathy Reichs.
The best thing - my daughter knows what I want for Christmas - so I don't even have to say. If there's a new Kathy Reichs book this year - it'll be under the tree. (And possibly personally autographed)
For you romance addicts - there is some romance in her books.
To have a chance to win a .pdf of my twisted fairy tale - Sexy Red Hood - leave your email and tell me who your favourite go to author is.

Sexy Red Hood - erotic contemporary romance by Daryl DevoreHeat – 4 hot peppers
Blurb - “Go save your Grandmother.” After learning her grandmother booked a cruise with a supposed gigolo and is squandering her inheritance, Esmeralda (Red) Hood boards Emerald Forest cruise ship to protect both. Once there, Red slips and falls into the arms of Wilhelm Olf, a dark-eyed, continental who makes her body tingle. Stepping out of the elevator, she barges into Andrew Woodsman, a bumbling private school teacher on his first vacation cruise. With her attention torn between the dissimilar but sexually-intriguing men and keeping watch over tequila drinking, rock wall climbing grandma, Red's cruise is filled with fun and erotic fantasies.Grandmother's warning of Never trust a wolf in sheep's clothing leaves Red confused. Later, when she wakes up in a utility closet, hands and feet bound and emerald necklace missing, Red discovers the man she suspected is not only innocent, but also the one she loves.
AmazonKobo What people are saying about Sexy Red Hood5 stars - An excellent retelling! This is quite a different retelling of the classic Little Red Riding Hood that we are all accustom to. It is definitely an adults only version, but a great one at that! I loved that there was a bit of mystery added in and even though the names gave a bit away as to who was who, you still weren't sure who Red would finally have in her bed. The fact that this took place on a seniors cruise was an added touch I really enjoyed. And the roll play at the end of the book was just so fitting!! I would definitely recommend this title and I will be reading more from this author.

"I fear it is a human emotion that has overwhelmed me." - From Capri's Fate on Friday Snippets #FridaySnippets

Scene set - Thall goes back to his dimension.
"Thall. It is so good to see you again." Xyno hovered next to him. "And you are back at your favorite spot by the creek. But you look so sad. What has put such darkness in you?"He glanced up at the glittering pink shimmer and shrugged. "I fear it is a human emotion that has overwhelmed me."Xyno changed to her corporeal form and sat next to him. "What is this emotion? And why does it do this to you? Can Lachesis not heal it?"A small grin crossed Thall's mouth at the concern he heard in her voice and saw in her eyes. "I do not think one can be healed when one is in love. The darkness you see in me is because I am not with Capri. And while I am sad, the heaviness also gives me joy as it means I am in love with her."Xyno raised one eyebrow. "That confuses me. Are all human emotions so bewildering?"Thall chuckled. "Yes.""Tell me what being in love feels like."He opened his mouth to speak, closed it, rubbed his face then scratched his head. "When you are with the one you love, you are filled with such joy and happiness. As if all the suns of the universe radiate their light from within you. But when you are apart, a dismal hollowness consumes you.""You are saying, this human, Capri, is your light?"Thall leaned back and stretched out on the bank. "She is my light.""Then I envy you. What a wonderful thing it must be, to be in love. Does she love you in return?""I do not think she has reached the moment of courage for her to admit to loving me.""Does that not pain you?"Thall shook his head and smiled. "She was in love years ago. He broke her heart. And while it has healed, it will take time for her to freely give herself to love. When she does, we will be complete.""I am called. It has been a very busy time." Xyno shifted away.Thall watched the clouds drift across the sky. He focused his mind on Capri. She sat in first class, gripping the arms of her seat. An empty glass of wine rested on her tray. Her skin was pale and her eyes squeezed tight.Sadness crept into him. He couldn't hold and comfort her or protect her from the fears swirling inside her. Those were her human demons and she must fight them.He ached to be able to reach deep within her where those demons hid and wrench them out of her. She should only experience happiness. There was nothing he wouldn't give to secure that happiness.Thall closed his eyes. "Lachesis. We must speak.""Come, my son."He shifted and settled beneath the Tree of Life. His mother changed to her human shape and sat next to him. "Have you enjoyed your time being with your human?"He nodded. "I crave more.""I feared this.""Why? You bonded with a human. I am the result of that union.""My human." She paused, reached under the tree and extracted another root. It quivered when she touched it."Capri?" Thall ran his gaze along the thick, healthy root. She nodded and replaced it. "Taren Feroulet was your father's name. Neither of my sisters thought I could be with this man. In all of time, no Fate has wished to bond with a human. So they devised a test. If successful, we could be together for eternity."Thall shifted, glanced at his mother then stared at the mass of roots beneath the tree. "He failed.""No.""You?" He lifted his gaze to meet his mother's.She caressed his cheek. "No. Taren was completing it when Atropos snipped his root. He died in my arms with the test in his hands.""What was the final test?""He had to obtain something to link us."Thall blinked. "That is not difficult.""He did not know the test existed.""What did he hold?""A chain of white and yellow daisies." She held out her hand. A ring of intertwined flowers settled on it. "I am the white flowers. He was the yellow. He braided it himself and wanted to place it on my head, like a crown."Thall raised his eyebrows. "Do I guess that I am not allowed to tell Capri about this?"Lachesis shrugged. "I can forbid you telling her, but I sense that would be useless."He chuckled. "I await the moment you and Capri meet. You are alike in so many ways.""That day shall not happen."

What people are saying about Capri's Fate
Cute, fun read
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
I'll start by saying, I'm not the biggest erotic reader, but I had to give this one a try. Call me biased since I had an advanced reading of this one, but I actually really enjoyed it.
I thought Capri's Fate was an adventurous, light hearted read peppered with dashes of humor and sexy intimate scenes.
Something I really like about Ms. Devore is her way with changing the mood while I'm reading her books. Not going to lie, when I initially started chapter one, I thought "oh dear, what am I about to read?" Then, of course, as I continued to read, the mood shifted and the romance sprang to life.
I'll also confess I'm not exactly a person that roots for the characters to get down to business, but yeah, I totally did in this book. Poor Capri and Thall, at points, I began to wonder if they might never obtain their "happy" times.
All in all, I thought this was a quick, light read that had a nice dose of adventure in some exotic locations, some steamy scenes, and a cute happily ever after.
Good twist on Greek myths.
Capri's Fate is a paranormal erotic romance. Here we have the story of, Capricious. Capri for short. She is a divorcee. A thirty two year old woman. She is an executive. She is highly paid too. She is definitely sexually repressed. I can definitely relate. She is a very down to earth, logical, sensible woman. Thall is the son of a fate. Lachesis, to be exact. He has lived for a very long time. Has never once fallen in love. Until Capri. There are some very interesting characters like, Kat a receptionist at a dentist's office. Kathy Stoller. She is also Definitely Trouble. That's right Trouble with a capital T. She has had some amazing adventures with Capri. As a matter of fact, they have been arrested from a couple of said adventures. She invites Capri to a convention center. This convention center is really a show called "Erotic Notions". A sex show. And sex toy shop. It was funny when she was stunned. I would be too. For sure. There she hears a deep voice which tells her," Do you happen to own a pair of red fuzzy handcuffs?". That's their first meeting. Not face to face. But mind to mind. His voice is very seductive. Very erotic. And very persuasive. I loved the retelling of this Greek myth. With all of the three sisters as the fates. All of the characters are humorous. Truly very creative lovemaking. I had to stop to fan myself and sigh a lot of times. My toes really curled. I applause to the author. For that. It's worth your time and money.

"Is it going to get me hit on—again—by horny, beer-soaked, college drunks?" #Thurs13

This is a fun read that I had a great time writing. So here is up to 13 sentences from Capri's Fate.

Having seen that innocent demeanor before; it meant nothing but trouble. I was a bit wary. Okay, a lot wary! The last time she'd gawked at me like that and asked the same brainless question, we ended up at a frat house beer slosh during Homecoming and I wasn't in college anymore.A cab pulled up and stopped. She grabbed my arm and dragged me into it. "Convention Center."I slid next to her, shut the car door and asked, "What's at the convention center?" "That's the trust me bit." She raised her hands and flicked two fingers up and down at the words "trust me".You have to love air-quotes.I checked my Blackberry for messages then glanced at her. "Is this going to get me arrested? Again?"She shook her head."Is it going to get me hit on—again—by horny, beer-soaked, college drunks?"Kat giggled.

What People are saying about Capri's Fate
smoking hot!
This was so entertaining. In the beginning when Capri and her best friend go to the convention, I was cracking up. This book is sexy and was a pleasure to read. I loved Thall, he is a Fates son and I found him to sweet and charming, then demanding and pushy. But I love that he saw Capri and how hard she was on herself and that she was overworked and tired. He was perfect for her.
Not Your Average Romance
Capri's Fate, a supernatural erotic romance by Daryl Devore is not my usual cup of tea. I don't usually go for a supernatural element in erotic fiction BUT as I read this book I was pleasantly surprised. Capricious Gray attends an erotic toy convention with a friend and brings home more than she bargained for. Thall is the half-human, half-immortal Fate assigned to watch over the bold and audacious Capri. He's also the love of her life, or will be, if Fate will have it.
Capri's Fate is the second book I've read by Daryl Devore. I very much enjoyed A Kept Woman: A Billionaire's Story so I took a chance on this one. I'm so glad I did. By the way, at one point in the story, Capri was reading a novel on her Kindle, which turned out to be another by Daryl Devore, Black Dorn. I loved this clever book plug and immediately bought that one as well.
I recommend Capri's Fate. It's not your usual romantic read and I think you'll like it.

Help is on the way on WIP it Up Wednesday #wipitup

Help is on the way for Darien - running from a bar shooting.
When his lungs complained they'd burst if he didn't stop and catch his breath, Darien ducked into a dark doorway, leaned back, and gulped mouthfuls of air. He jumped when his cellphone vibrated against his backside. He tapped the screen and lifted it to his ear."Where the hell are you?" Brian's voice was tense. "I can't see you. It's a riot out here. People are panicking all over the place.""I had to run…they…the guys showed up and started shooting.""What the fuck have you gotten yourself into this time?"Darien gripped his cell. "Nothin’. I fucking didn't do nothin’.""Calm down. Where are you?""In a doorway.""Not a lot of help, dude, coupla million doorways in Bangkok. Narrow it down for me."The smart-aleck tone of his brother's voice somehow had a calming effect on Darien's jangled nerves. "Uh, I'm up the street from the Peacock. I think I'm still going east.""Look around, can you see the Two-Headed Serpent.""What is it with this city and bizarre animals?"His brother's chuckle was salve on a cut. "Who knows. The club owners think the names are sexy."Darien leaned forward and twisted his neck right and left. "Nope. No two headed serpents. Coupla shitty-looking hookers, that's it.""Okay. So you haven't made it to the Serpent. I must just be a block behind you. I'll drive slow. You flag me down.""Hurry.""Can't drive slow and hurry at the same time.""Screw you and just get here." Darien rammed his finger against the end button and stuffed his phone in his back pocket. Crossing his arms, he leaned his shoulder against the doorway, doing his best to appear calm, bored and in no way involved in two club shootings. His brother's bright yellow Hummer slowed down. Darien grimaced. Great. How do I look invisible while getting into a bloated canary? He bolted to the car, jerked the door open, slammed it shut and slid low. "Drive. Get me outta here."

Private Pleasure is Shiloh Saddler's second novella with an F/F couple.

Private Pleasure is my second novella with an F/F couple. My first was a historical western The Virgin Madam. When I started writing Private Pleasure it was going to be a F/F story, too. Set in ancient Rome, the young domina is in love with her maid. I needed to develop a plot, so I decided that the domina was about to get married. What would happen then? Would the two women have to part? My story is very erotic and, I hope, equally emotional. The two women share everything with each other, their fears, their hopes, and of course, their bodies.I had already finalized the story when domina’s husband, Felix, stood up and demanded to have a voice in Private Pleasure as well. Being a general in the Roman army and a senator, he knew how to grab my attention. I’m not sure why it took him so long to speak. I think he was too distracted with the charms of the ladies.
Excerpt:Livia opened the door to find Naomi sitting demurely on her bed, hands in her lap. Her slightly bowed head rose, their eyes meeting. Naomi smiled. “Domina,” she whispered. She stood and hurried toward her.Livia closed the door and locked it, ensuring them the utmost secrecy for their illicit activities.Naomi’s arms wrapped around her waist and she kissed the cleft between her breasts.Livia delighted in their closeness. She felt Naomi’s pulse; each beat she hoped was for her.Naomi, dear Naomi. The woman served her faithfully each day, asking very little in return. Each touch and kiss they shared birthed more lust between them. She ran her thumb across her servant’s cheek.Naomi frowned, but did not turn away. “You will be installed in your husband’s domus and we will part.”“I will try to arrange it so that will not be so.” She loved Naomi. Naomi was more than her personal servant, the slave had been with her every year of her life. They were friends and if she was honest with herself, much more. Their bond ran deeper than anyone would know.Alarm flared in Naomi’s eyes. “Be careful, Domina. If your father is displeased it will be I who is made to suffer.”Livia, spread her arms, and enveloped the smaller woman. She did not want to see Naomi punished. She only wanted to take care of her, protect her. She held her tight, fingers threading through her brown locks. Despite Naomi’s caution, she’d do everything in her power to keep them together. She’d beg her husband to buy Naomi so the woman could continue to look after her needs. All of her needs. If she could not ensure Naomi’s freedom, she would do everything in her power to make sure the woman had a good life. Naomi was strong-willed, Livia liked that about her. She didn’t want her father to decide he had had enough of her high spirit. She needed Naomi by her side.“We should savor our remaining time together,” Livia breathed into Naomi’s ear. Only during their private pleasure could they act as equals. Right now she wanted to love Naomi as her equal. Naomi unwound her arms from Livia’s waist. She looked up at her expectantly with large brown eyes. “Yes. We shall delight in every remaining moment.”Livia blinked back the flood of oncoming tears. She wanted their waning time together to be filled with happiness not sorrow. Smiling, she cupped her servant’s cheek with her palm. She pressed a feather-light kiss to the side of Naomi’s neck. The woman’s pulse raced under her lips.Livia inhaled deeply, taking in her sweet perfume. “Disrobe,” she ordered.“Yes, Domina.” Naomi’s submissive expression did nothing to hide her lust. It spurred Livia’s own hunger, stoking the heat of her passion. Naomi’s submission made her body thrum. She was eager to please, and Livia was eager to be pleased.Meeting her gaze, Naomi undid the basic brooch at her shoulder, and unwound the stola and tunica from her body. The expanse of light fabric puddled at her feet. Her creamy skin completely exposed. She stood in the middle of the room, watching her Domina and waiting for the next instruction.
Blurb:A member of the Roman elite, Livia, shares a secret Sapphic relationship with her slave that’s threatened when her father forces her to marry a powerful senator. But after her new husband introduces her to the pleasures of sex with men, she finds her attraction torn. Is it the senator she wants in her bed, or her slave?
Sensuous Naomi has been a devoted slave and lover to Livia for many years, but she too feels a desire for the senator that’s too powerful to stop. When he discovers their secret, he offers Naomi a choice – marry another slave, or live as a threesome. Naomi jumps at the chance to lie in the senator’s arms, even if only for one night.
Felix’s political ambition knows no bounds, nor his appetite for women. But when a critical mission results in his capture, it’s only getting back to his two lovers he desires, no matter what the diplomatic fallout. Little does he know the risks he’s taken in his bed and in the field have not gone unnoticed by the emperor, but will he be rewarded or reprimanded for his actions?
Warning: this is ancient history on the erotic romance side. This novella contains two women lusting after each other and a powerful man determined to have them both.
