REVIEW: Undone By Moonlight by Wendy Etherington

Dear Ms. Etherington:

This story had a charming couple – Pollyanna from Texas and the hard bitten detective whose father did time but the plot of the book surrounded the mystery of how the hero, Devin Antonio, was framed for the assault of a New York citizen.

This must be the third or fourth book in a series and I hadn’t read the previous three (nor did I feel compelled to read the others when I was finished). Calla Tucker and Devin Antonio had a background and connection that had built prior t...

“Damn it.” Kerri hit the button to call the elevator to take her down from this personal hell. Continuing to mutter under her breath, she glanced back at the door she’d just slammed behind her, leaving her former love...

From Jacket Copy:

Prim, plain, desperately virtuous Lady Mary Fairchild stared at the seductive gentleman and wondered — did he remember the elements of the night they met? Surely not. But Sebastian Durant, Viscount Whitfield, did re...

REVIEW: Red by Kate Kinsey

Dear Ms. Kinsey:

I confess that my expectations of this book may have played a part in how I ultimately felt and my grade. If this is a romance, I don’t think it succeeds. If it is viewed as a police procedure/serial killer story, it’s a bit more successful.

Red Kate KinseyRed should be billed as an erotic thriller with a low hum of a romance underlying the story. The story is told primarily fromTom Hanson’s point of view, a male cop who investigates a series of murders involving individuals who participate i...

REVIEW: Close Enough to Touch by Victoria Dahl

Dear Ms. Dahl,

I am still surprised at how little I liked your latest Western-lite book, Close Enough to Touch. I’ve enjoyed many of your books–especially the sexy Bad Boys Do (reviewedhere, along with the otherDonovanbooks, by Robin)and the very funny Lead Me On (givena B+here by Jane)– and you’re hilarious on Twitter. This book, however, wasn’t funny, sexy, or probable. The leads, Cole and Grace, are ill-suited sad sacks faltering through life who meet in a small Western town and share rough...

Judge Cote’s rules in favor of settlement in DOJ’s price fixing case

Introduction

As I posted yesterday, Judge Cote approved the settlement between the DOJ and Simon & Schuster; Hachette; and HarperCollins. The decision which can be read in its entirety here was rendered without delay because, as Judge Cote wrote on the last page of her decision “E-books consumers should not be forced to wait until after the June 2013 trial to experience the significant anticipated benefits of the decree.”

The majority of the battle was won when the DOJ made the case in its peti...

Friday Film Review: Stagecoach

[image error]Stagecoach (1939)

Genre: Western

Grade: A

I’d heard about this movie for years. But somehow I’d managed to miss seeing it until very recently. When I watched it, I finally understood what makes it great. This is the film that got John Ford back directing Westerns. It introduced Monument Valley’s gorgeous vistas to moviegoers. It took an accomplished group of actors and turned them into a great cast. It’s got some cool social commentary. And it gave John Wayne his vehicle to become a star. Silly...
