REVIEW: On Dublin Street by Samantha Young

Dear Ms. Young:

I think it was Angela James who told me to read this book. We’ve both been glomming on as many New Adult books as we can, mostly from the self published ranks. On Dublin Street isn’t necessarily Mature YA or New Adult or whatever we are calling it, but it has a similar feel. It’s written in the first person and features a just graduated college student living in Scotland.

REVIEW: My Liege of Dark Haven by Cherise Sinclair

Dear Ms. Sinclair,

I’m pretty sure I’ve not read anything by you before. I saw Angela James talking about your book on Twitter and clicked over to Amazon to see whether the book might appeal to me.

Threatened by university cutbacks, Professor Abigail Bern’s only hope is to publish a provocative research paper–soon. Planning to covertly observe behavior in the notorious Dark Haven BDSM club, she takes a receptionist job. When the owner calls upon her to assist in a demonstration, she’s appalled....

Tuesday News: Expect more fake reviews; YA books purchased by a lot of adults (rain is wet);

Gartner predicts raft of fake online reviews by 2014 — Tech News and Analysis – One research company suggests that the negative reviews on social media sites will drive companies to hire reputation defenders to put pressure on reviews to be removed or engage in other activities to enhance positive reviews over negative ones. Perhaps the FTC will start prosecuting this behavior but it does seem like fake reviews might be the norm in the near future. GigaOm

GUEST REVIEW: Top Ten Reasons to read Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley

The following is a guest post from Angela James. Angela James is both the executive editor of Carina Press (but all views expressed when discussing books are purely her own) and an avid reader of all things romance since she snuck her first Harlequin category romance from her mom’s brown grocery bag full of them in fourth grade nearly 30 years ago. She’s also addicted to Twitter, tweeting compulsively about books, shoes, football, her daughter and her bad travel karma. You can find her at @a...

REVIEW: Hanging by a Thread by Sophie Littlefield

Dear Ms. Littlefield,

Your name’s been on my radar for a while now. Alas, I’m teetering on burnout when it comes to post-apocalyptic novels so I’ve consistently given your Harlequin Luna series a pass. This is no fault of your own. It’s all on me. But when I saw your new novel, a YA, on NetGalley, I decided to give it a go. Not post-apocalyptic and a standalone? Sign me up.

They say our house is cursed, and maybe it’s true. It’s been in my mom’s family for almost a hundred years. It was a dress...
