Review of The Dream Operator

Mike O’Driscoll’s ‘The Dream Operator’ is very favourably reviewed by Peter Tennant in issue #60 of Black Static. Here are some snippets:

” …O’Driscoll building up the picture one step at a time and merging influences from all over the literary and genre shop, so that you think of work like Dick’s A Scanner Darkly and the film V for Vendetta, can see those influences at play, but appreciate that O’Driscoll has delivered something uniquely his own.”

” …a strong collection from one of the finest writers in the field.”

I do hope that you will consider picking up a copy of this book.

Necronomicon schedule

Hey, all, here’s our Necronomicon schedule. I’ll be busy, but I hope to meet as many of you as I can. Of course, I’ll have a table in the vendor’s hall, where you’ll find me and Carolyn most of the convention. So, really, there’s no excuse.

Over at the LA Review of Books, reviewer and critic Paul StJohn Mackintosh takes a critical, detailed look at Shadows and Tall Trees 7; the series as a whole; the New Weird/New Wave; and Post Horror. Well worth a read.

Great review

Incredible review of Sunny Moraine’s “Singing With All My Skin and Bone,” in the latest Black Static, courtesy the inimitable Peter Tennant.

“Straddling the speculative genres with consummate artistry and a seemingly effortless panache, Singing With All My Skin and Bone is one of the best collections I’ve read in recent years. The stories are haunting and lyrical, written with compassion and the fire of righteous anger, the work of a writer with a unique voice and important things to tell us.”

This is a book I continue to think of as a classic, and is continuously, imo, undersold. I hope you’ll pick up a copy. It’s well-worth it, I believe.

future titles

Hey, I know some of you aren’t that familiar with the work of Mike O’Driscoll. He’s featured in a number of anthologies edited by the great Ellen Datlow, and his story ‘Sounds Like’ was adapted and filmed by Brad Anderson as part of the Masters of Horror TV series. He’s a great storyteller. His new collection is terrific. And I am very, very pleased with the way both the Trade and Hardcover editions turned out. Please consider supporting a small press and picking up a copy. I need your support. We’ve got some great books coming down the pike: ‘I Will Surround You,’ by Conrad Williams; Year’s Best Weird Fiction Vol. 4, guest-edited by Helen Marshall; and Priya Sharma’s debut collection ‘Fabulous Beasts.’ Plus an exciting project that has fallen into my lap which should see fruition this time next year. All-in-all, it’s going to be a great line-up for Undertow. But, of course, we need your help. So … buy a book, or leave a review, or help spread the word. Thanks!
