Simon Strantzas on Weird fiction

Weirdfictionreview.com sat down with this year’s guest editor, Simon Strantzas, to ask how he selected works for YBWF3, how he views the Weird fiction genre, and what he’s currently working on. It’s a great and insightful interview. Highly recommended!

Update on Shadows & Tall Trees 7

As way of an update, (since a few of you have asked), I just have to say that the quality of submissions–over 600 total–to Shadows & Tall Trees 7 is uniformly excellent. I have to make some very tough choices here. (I may have to increase the page count). I’ve already turned down a number of terrific stories that are sure to find good homes elsewhere. And I hate disappointing writers, friends, and colleagues who have sent in good work.

I have about 100 more submissions to read that arrived in the last 2 days. If you sent something earlier than that then it is in my “second read” pile.

Thanks to everyone who showed interest in the book.

YBWF3 Dust Jacket

Here is the almost final version of the dust-jacket wrap for the hardcover edition of the Year’s Best Weird Fiction, Vol. 3. Pretty sweet, huh? Yes, you read correctly – hardcover. If the hardcover performs well I will likely offer all future Undertow titles in hardcover. Our paperback subscription proved very popular, and I may consider a hardback subscription if enough folks are interested. YBWF3 will likely be available the first week of October. You are going to love it.YBWF3-DustJacket

Update on Shadows 7

Just an update on Shadows & Tall Trees 7. I am receiving an average of 18 submissions a day, so it is likely going to take some time, given my Year’s Best reading, to read through and respond to everything. Please be patient.

And I’m still seeing a lot of submissions not adhering to the guidelines. Specifically, no multiple submissions, and no familiar tropes, i.e. vampires, zombies, and werewolves. I do not want to see them. Period.

I thank you for your patience, and your interest.
