New new strips in the shop.
I have a wee bit a time to start squeezing some strips up onto ebay. I'll be posting more recent strips up for auction. Mostly because it seems people prefer the ones that were just in the paper.
Also, I've switched back to doing 98% of the strip with a brush. Experimented for awhile with more of a comic book style and truthfully, while I love drawing like that, it just doesn't fit the strip.
Plus, the joy of inking with a brush are the Bob Ross "Happy Little Accidents". Even with a lot of practice you have to give way to the will of the brush. And that seems more alive to me for Sophie and Doug.
Pop by the store to see what's for sale. You can always email me to check on the availability of any other strip. As always, a percentage of all sales goes to the Wounded Warrior Fund:

A few pics from the gallery show
The Back Bay Patch ran a nice little article on the "One Fine Sunday" show. They even quoted me and tossed in a photo, although for security reasons they didn't show my face:

Social Webcomics
I stumbled upon this site the other day. Thought it was pretty cool. Seems to have a lot of functionality, but I haven't played with everything yet. I generally track my comics and webcomic pals using tweetdeck. It'll be interesting to see if this adds another dimension to hanging out with other tooners online. Go check it out:

Pencil review!
Do you like lead holders? Yah, well I've got a doozy for you.
Honestly I stopped using them a few years ago. Got tired of the lead snapping in the sharpener. Then, last year, the sweet people at jetpens sent me a Lamy scribble lead holder. Well, I was hooked all over again. The Lamy is a thick holder, and changed the way I penciled…for the better.
So when I saw the new Ohto comfort grip holders on jetpens.com, I had to give them a shot. These are the thin ones that get fed 2mm leads. Now, in my art bin, I only have the tried and true Steadtler holders. Blue, metal and heavy. The Ohto is ultra light and ultra comfy. Add to that it feeds the lead like any other mechanical pencil and you've got a stellar pencil. Oh but wait, there's more: a sharpener in the cap! And it works! You do have to sharpen it over something as it does not collect the dust.
Yes, mechanical pencils are more convenient and you don't have to pause every five minutes to sharpen the lead, but they just can't compete with the feel of drawing with 2mm (or 3.15) leads. You can check out the Ohtos here:

Wish today's strip had been in the show.
The "One Fine Sunday" exhibit was overwhelming. Seeing that many original comic strips was extraordinary. Honestly, I could've wandered staring at the pieces for days. To see an original "Cul de Sac" and a "Mutts" was inspirational. And to top it off I got the cance to meet some super nice people, including a couple from my syndicate. Odd when you think about it, I've done the strip for six years and never met anyone form Creators face to face.
If the exhibit comes to your area, don't miss it!

One Fine Sunday in Boston
So I think I'll pop down to this show on Sunday. There's a reception in the afternoon, and I know a few members of the NCS will be attending. Plus, I have a piece in the show, so I should stop in and check it out. Hopefully I don't get booted for drooling on some of the pieces.
Here's more info if you're in the area:

Get a longer couch.
Sophie does actually do this in real life. And she will always steal your spot if you get off the couch. Her first words could easily be "I don't see your name on it".
And now I'm waiting for the tech to arrive from ADR (a data recovery company). They will take away my little lego external hard drive and in a few days, ransom my data for an exorbitant fee. Normally I'd try a few more things on my own before spending the money on data recovery, but the death rattle noise that came from the 250gig brick tells me that it's out of my league now.
Of course this is all my fault. I always preach triplication in data backup. However, I had put off signing up for an online backup service that also worked across networks and covered external drives. So live and learn. Trying out Mozy.com. I believe that they cover external hard drives however I am not seeing that tidbit of info anywhere anymore. Hmmm.
Carbonite keeps my laptop and desktop squarely protected. Which is critical, cause every DeD strip is sitting in my rather aged desktop. Wish it had covered the external drive. You see, I had moved all the megaton load of original PSD's from "The Prince's New Pet" over to said hard drive with every intention of then getting the online backup for it. Yet, the universe decided to toss in a well timed, once in the 4 year life of the drive, fall off the table. Well played Universe. Well played.
On a happier note, you can check out my progress on coloring the webcomic for "The Conjurers" here:
