Paintings and illustrations, oh my.

Comic

So I popped the first DeD oil pastel painting up on ebay. Just hours later, someone placed a bid. I was a bit thrilled as I wasn't quite sure if it would sell. But now, the fact that someone actually wants it makes me happy. The second painting is finished and will be in the shop soon. And there are some new strips on the auction block too, including the silent batman one from a few days ago ( a few weeks ago in newspaper years):

And as the re-re-re-re-written and revised chapters for "The Conjurers" pitch nears another trip back to my agent, I'll be blogging the process for the next sample illustration here:

Other than that, I am now completely addicted to oil pastels. It's hard sneaking in the time to work with the messy little crayons and also study up on the medium. But I'm getting there. They are joyful to work with, and are the closest thing I've found to splashing light on a canvas. They do tend to push you towards a more abstract or graphic style, which happily is where I want to go anyway. I'm now also enthralled in the work of Wolf Kahn. You can visit his site here:

Maybe, just maybe I'll have the guts to do a picture book with oil pastels. Ironically that is how I wanted "Nighty Night, Sleepy Sleeps" to be illustrated. Alas, I chickened out and painted with an oil pastel style within the safely pixilated confines of Photoshop.
