Story for the Day: An Affectionate Gesture

I love these three. This story made me realize how much.

An Affectionate Gesture                 After a prolific night spent at Vondeva's, Nidello and Arkastino were escorting Ladrei toward his private residence in the guild hall. It had been an excellent evening: bowls of warm licorice wine to delight their senses, numerous sabers full of varying meats to tantalize and satiate their stomachs, fire dancers to view, citterns and harps to hear, and upon the whole, the three had spent the chief ...

A Sample Chapter: The Commander and the Den Asaan Rautu

The Return to Diras                The return journey to the capital must be a short one. The party contrived to stop as little as possible along the road, though the prevailing snows and impassable road was doing everything necessary to impede them. They would not stop until nightfall when the biting cold and dominant winds had caused Rithea and Ghelbhi to succumb to entreaties for shelter. Rautu permitted them to sit by the auspices of a small fire on the edge of the forest and off the...

Story for the Day: Tepu and the Hind

This is a piece of something I wrote a while ago. I might turn it into a book. I might not. :D
The Hind                 Tepu was called by the villagers, and though he had been cast out by them only a few years hence for his odd manner and magical abilities, he observed that their entreaties were genuine and agreed to the summons. When he came to the village border, he was met by the elder, a small and gnarled man blind in one eye who walked with a cane and a limp. He imparted that the...

Story for the Day: Pancake Competition

I got a lot of writing done today. Finished one immense story arc. Here is the beginning of another.

Pancake Competition Ladrei, self-professed champion pancake eater                A challenge at eating Lucentian pancakes had been a longstanding offer between Kai Linaa and Ladrei. Ever since the guildlord had been privy to Kai Linaa's vehement adoration of Lucentia's national fare, he sought to dispute her title of greatest pancake eater and was inclined to invite her to his home to settle ...

How to Write 10,000 Words a Day

This is a little divergent for me, but someone asked me to  write a small guide to how I write 10,000 words in a day. Alas, here is how I do it:

1) Write what you know and write what you enjoy writing.
I know this seems little a commonplace to say, but when I was in writing in university, I was constantly made to try other genres and styles. While this is good for someone who wants to write but may not know what, for someone confident of what she enjoys writing, segregating oneself from the des...

Story for the Day: Mothers

Mothers                  The commander watched the celebration in the courtyard from her place at the far wall near the servants quarter of the keep to gain the fullness of the revelry. Since the last time this holiday was marked by her, or that she had been in Frewyn to celebrate its cause, her conversancy of mothers had grown exponentially, whether adding mothers to her acquaintance as Mrs Averleigh, gaining one in Mrs Donnegal, or becoming a mother herself. Though the air and sentiment s...

A Mother's Day Letter

 A Letter to a Mother

One of mine

From C.B. MacDaede
To Mrs Cuineill and Mrs Donnegal

Although this day is indeed a contrived holiday, as many holidays are, the day that honours mothers can never be considered a mere contrivance, for though some may not have had such exquisite mothers as yourself, we as children were born through those of your persuasion as you were born from the same.

As a far superior woman of the world, you have done your utmost to raise and cherish those in your flock...

Story for the Day: Requited

Here is part of the story arc I'm just finishing for book 12. Someone gets his affections returned. Enjoy.
Requited                The celebration of Frewyn's coming to the islands endured throughout the afternoon hours: Abharaas was shared, music was played, lilting hymns were sung, dances were performed, and everyone was disposed to enjoy themselves whether being regaled by the melodious air of the bards or being  beguiled by the sight of the sleek Haanta women undulating their hips to...
