Story for the Day: A Certain Time

It was a tough day for me. You can guess why.
A Certain Time Pirate Craw will make Bou feel better
The commander had spent the chief of the morning in a strange state of malaise. She had not been used to melancholic notions and the instant she felt herself beginning to succumb to the irrational sadness mulling in her mind, she supposed it was merely a certain time and did her utmost to ignore her poor humour. As she went from the commons to the training yard, somewhere...

Recovery and Rations: from "The Commander and the Den Asaan Rautu"

A sample chapter from book 1, avaiable through Amazon. See the carousel at the bottom of page.

Recovery and Rations                      Rautu heard the shuffling sounds of the pelts grazing along the ground and he turned to find the commander attempting lift her thick legs. He went to her side and placed his hand beneath her back to support her. "Are you able to move?"                "Somewhat." Her limbs moved well enough on their own, having all the benefit of wiggling fingers and toes...

Story for the Day: A Royal Wedding

Still doing rewrites for book one. Here is a small preview of something else I'm writing at the same time:
A Royal Wedding                 The Diras castle keep was abustle with talk of a royal wedding, and as the marriage in question was not to take place in the Frewyn capital, the maids and servants had all the advantage of gossip on the subject and none of the inconvenience in preparing for a wedding. The bride was to be admired by the men and the groom was to be object of every woman's...

Story for the Day: Brothers

Brothers                The island roused from its inanimate condition when the bards from the temple made their first round of the capital. The Haanta people emerged from their carved homes, rising with the first sounds of the Sanhedhran morning, and began their day, greeting their brothers and sisters with equal cordiality while being ushered to their posts by the bolstering hymns of their people. The fires of forges were struck, the masonry ovens were lighted, and everyone was inclined t...

Story for the Day: Farmer's Exertion

I'm in the middle of rewrites for book 1 but I had to get this out of my head before I could continue.
Farmer's Exertion                  After a long day of immense exertion spent within the auspices of the barn and between the crop rows in the open fields, Jaicobh returned to the house with all the happiness of aching limbs, tired feet and a sore back could afford a farmer and landlord of Tyferrim. He stepped over the threshold of the back door and sighed with the most cordial felicity...

Story for the Day: A Father's Death

A moment from book 1 :
The farmsteads of Tyferrim, Frewyn's countryside, were known to be graced with a splendid beauty once the warmth of summer came to the kingdom. The stone hedgerows and abundance of crops framed the prospect of verdant downs, lush fields and tall grasses. Wild flowers bloomed between the boundaries of the varying properties, livestock who had worked hard throughout the winter were let to pasture, and the country landscape bore a distinctive blithe air, accompanied by...

Story for the Day: The Supervisor

In the thick of rewrites for book 1 but I had to write something new.
The Supervisor Why would you ask Rautu to supervise you?                It was known throughout the Diras castle keep that the Den Asaan was a great supervisor of small tasks. It was clear that he enjoyed his usual perch beside his mate while she was cooking, as he took to it every evening while she prepared his supper and he loomed over her pointing and asserting, but since he had made the keep his permanent home, it...
