The Disgraced, also from Gail Simone’s run on Batgirl. You can’t have JUST the villain…MINIONS count for something too. I was going to put text on it but wasn’t satisfied anywhere on the piece. It looked too much like an album cover. Also some retweaking of their costumes
That is just plain remarkable!

Amazing, once-in-a-lifetime panel…I am in this picture, in the back. It definitely felt historic.

That’s a really Dark Knight Rises kind of sequence, there with Bane.

“**TRIGGER WARNING RACISM, ABUSE OF NATIVE AMERICAN PEOPLE BY DOCTORS** Before Depo was approved in 1992, it was routinely used on Native women by IHS, particularly on Native women with disabilities. According to one area director Burton Attico, the Phoenix IHS had already begun to substitute Depo for sterilization on patients with mental disabilities in the 1980s because by then sterilization had been prohibited. Said Attico, “we used it to stop their periods. There is nothing else that will do it. To have to change a pad on someone developmentally disabled, you’ve got major problems. The fact that they become infertile while on it is a side benefit.” Raymond Jannett of the Phoenix IHS suggested that Depo-Provera aided young women in dealing with PMS-like symptoms. “Depo-Provery turned them back into their sweet, poor, handicapped selves. I take some pride in being a pioneer in that regard,” he said. But, while Jannett did not have any reservations about using it on Indian women, he did not plan to use it “on attractive 16-yer-old girls who one day hope to be mothers.” Patrick Gideon, with the IHS in Oklahoma City, said it would be appropriate to prescribe the drug to “women who are unable to care for themselves. For hygienic reasons, we will go ahead and give it.” Apparently, keeping Native women “clean” by sterilizing them is more important than protecting Native women’s health; in this way, Native women’s bodies are viewed as inherently dirty, in need fo cleansing and purification at any cost.”

Good god.
Speaking of Bane: What do you think his specialty dish would have on it? I know you love inserting delightful food in your comics, most notably BOP & S6, so, just wondering. ;)
I actually have a scene where Bane turns down (if I remember correctly) a plate of exotic, gourmet cheeses offered by Jeannette.
He says, “I had some swill earlier.”
I think that explains it. :)

Damn, I’m going to go broke collecting Batgirl stuff, I know it.
APE IN A CAPE: I have thoughts about writing and they may not make me popular.
tygermama asked: I write fanfic because it’s fun, makes me happy and it was one of the first things I ever did that was completely my own and that I got praise for. Now, I am thinking about trying to freelance but I’m very aware that professional writing is completely…
As I got a few questions in my box this morning about “could you not think of a good response” I actually responded to a question about why I did not respond(and am now responding about it—which sort of makes it mote in a way). If anyone else has that question—please feel free to visit my blog and check it out there. Also feel free to ask further questions or quietly dislike me. However, the short and sweet is that: I felt Gail’s response didn’t negate my own opinion and felt no need to respond. However, I now have. Oops. If this does continue I do hope its more of a discussion than an argument.
Huh. I really didn’t think we were arguing. Are we arguing?
I thought you wrote a nice, thoughtful post that I responded to honestly from a different perspective and experience. “Negating” your post wasn’t really what I had in mind, but rather expanding from the position of someone who has actually worked both sides of that fence.
My honest apologies if it came off as argumentative. I am obviously pretty blunt when it comes to writing ABOUT writing, because I always feel it’s best to be honest, even if it sometimes seems harsh. Best for both parties.
Comedy Bang! Bang! LIVE 2012 Summer Tour
We know not everyone can get to one of the Comedy Bang! Bang! LIVE tour dates. So, the final portion of every show is being recorded and released through the Earwolf store. Pick up the collection for $25 and receive each show as they happen. Wow, what a deal!
Note: Episodes will also be available individually for $2.99. These recordings only represent a portion of the live show, so still try to make your way out to see it with your very own eyes.
I saw this show in San Diego and I am telling you, I nearly was ill from laughing so hard at Scott Aukerman, Jon Daly, and Brett Gelman. It was amazing. I am so buying this.
Also, people should go see the show when it hits Portland, Oregon on Thursday, August 2nd! I will definitely be there!
About Bane In The Movie (Semi-Spoilers, Be Aware)
I loved him.
It’s odd, because for the first hour, I thought, man, Bane is just not working. What’s wrong here? He just isn’t coming across as dangerous or motivated. He was a little bit baffling in every scene except possibly the opener, and I was starting to prepare for disappointment.
I should perhaps have been more trusting in Nolan. While still not quite the Bane I know from comics, he definitely became the presence I was hoping for. The voice is an odd choice, and I miss Bane being ethnically Latino. But I did love the film Bane and some scenes were positively haunting.
SPOILER SECTION
A huge number of people have asked my feelings about the twist in the Bane plot, which, they felt, mirrored elements of my version of Bane in Secret Six. I admit it occurred to me, and I’m reasonably certain someone on the film scripting team had read the book, as it was the most current version of Bane at the time, so it seems pretty likely.
IF they took inspiration from Secret Six, and I have no way of knowing if they did, but they certainly used stuff from lots of other comics, I am nothing but flattered. It’s a great film, a moving and haunting film, and that twist is the whole key to Bane’s character in the movie. It makes him deeper and more meaningful, which I think also happened in the comics for the same reason.
But even if they did borrow that bit, I still give all credit to Bane’s creators. Bane is a magnificent characters, full of hidden crannies and purpose, with one of the best origins in comics. When you read him and he’s boring or just a monster, that is the WRITER’S fault, not the character.
Bane is dangerous even apart from his physical strength. Bane is the guy who outthinks you AND outfights you. I dearly love him. If they borrowed, wonderful, I am happy. If it’s a coincidence, that’s fine too.

Bane: I only one rule in dealing with the enemy. Give them nothing. Not solace, not mercy, not kindness, not torment, not provisions, and most assuredly— not satisfaction.
Again, I always thought Bane was a complete hardass. Never understood why his paternal feelings for Scandal somehow would change that.
