This might be a question you're not allowed to answer but do you really need approval from up top to give Bavs a haircut?

When you do a serious change in the look of a character appearing in multiple books, it would at the very least be common courtesy to let everyone know.

With the icon characters, yeah, you have to share with editorial, that’s perfectly fair or someone would have given Batman a mullet by now.

Alex Garner is amazing. What a cover.

Omg did Babs get a pixie cut?!

No, it’s a fill-in that takes place when she’s fifteen, I think. I don’t much about it.

I’d like her to have shorter hair currently…not sure if it would fly with Warners!

Oh, okay. Still, you’re right, it is an amazing cover! Do you get the covers before the story is written?

Like I said, I didn’t write this issue, but generally, the covers are drawn from ideas I come up with or are inspired by the script. Sometimes the script is done first, optimally, but sometimes we just have the plot to work from.

Usually, the artist can come up with something great from just the plot details, they are clearly a million times better at that then I could ever hope to be. Alex Garner is one of the best in the business and really only needs a rough outline of the issue to figure out what the best possible cover is.

The biggest pain with covers is that I hate spoilers so I am always trying to keep the covers from giving anything away. But with an artist like Alex, he can make even the most simple images thrilling.

Why Am I Happy Right Now?

Because I just bought tickets to see the MONKEES August 18th in Portland.

MONKEES, baby!

Yes, I love the Monkees. SCOFF AT YOUR OWN PERIL.

Hi, Gail! I wanted to ask, re: Katharsis' origin, was her target still found innocent? Or is this something that will be touched upon at a later date?

There’s more coming…Vengeance Moth has a different story, and Virtue’s origin is too big and too crucial to the main story to be told in this issue.

There’s more secrets coming soon. :)

Misfit! I haven’t tried on the wig yet, but I love it. And I’ve decided to cosplay as Misfit on Thursday for the Braves game.

Absolutely adorable!

I want to thank ALL the faithful Misfit fans and cosplayers for keeping her memory alive until I can figure out a way to BRING HER BACK!

I was going to ask you about Red Sonja, but getting to your Ask page, I find myself unable to keep from asking about "that". Apologies for that, whatever "that" may be.

Black Canary has long had an on again/off again romantic relationship with Green Arrow in the pre-new52 universe, and were even married for a time!

Regarding the Red Sonya anthology series you're doing with many other great female writers; How did the ones that haven't written comics before respond?

It’s interesting, because three of these writers that did the most complex things with the format were writers who had not written any, or very many, comics. I found that awesome.

I can’t pick a favorite story yet, there are several I am wild about. Devin’s is simply aces, and has a SPECTACULAR guest artist that I have always wanted to work with, so I am jealous about that one!
