Hi Gail, big fan! I was wondering if you wouldn't mind explaining what an 'unsolicited script' is? I keep hearing the phrase being thrown around and I'm not entirely sure of it's meaning. And while i'm asking, what does it matter if a script is solicited
Well, it matters completely. A solicited script means the publisher asked for it, an unsolicited one means they did not. So if a script is unsolicited, it means they did not ask for it and most likely will not even look at it.
do you like the new 52 costumes? because some seem like a little too much
Some I like a lot, some I think are pretty not great.
Appropriation of Characters
Have you ever taken a problematic character in genre fiction, altered them to fit your headcanon, and taken them to your heart as a favorite?
There are so many female characters from when I started reading comics that so clearly had never had a female influence touch them, so many were so full of gender nonsense, but I remember very clearly finding ways to love them anyway, even if it meant inventing my own backstory and adventures for them.
I can only imagine what it must have been like for lgbtq or poc folks.
But everyone can play, did you ever take a character and make them your own and still have affection for them, even if their stories or character were problematic?
If so, who?

A woman can preach, a woman can work, a woman can fight. A woman can build, can rule, can conquer, can destroy just as much as a man can.
Who is that women on the top right?

HEY GUYS here are my journal comics of my experience as a special guest at San Diego Comic-con 2013! I had an amazing trip! Co-starring my awesome boyfriend Tim (you can read his SDCC comics here). Cameos by Mark Siegel, Jeff Smith, Bernadette Baker-Baughman, Vera Brosgol, Neil Druckmann, Dan Santat, Dave Roman, Raina Telgemeier, Bryan Konietzko, Michael DiMartino, Giancarlo Volpe, John Green, Kazu Kibuishi and Joss Whedon!
Apologies to everyone I drew, and apologies to everyone I did not include (Tim’s comics filled in some of the gaps at least). :D Pls re-tumbl, I would love that!
EDIT: Edited so the larger comics are smaller, better for tumbler viewing! :)
HA! I recognize all these moments.
Jeph Loeb gave me that same speech about not being a fan. He said, “Quit apologizing for being at the big table. You earned your way here and it wasn’t easy."
I tried to take that message to heart and IT HASN’T SUNK IN YET.
I find this an odd thing to say, but- honestly, I'm beginning to find white male characters boring aesthetically. You just see so many, that they need a bombastic personality or fashion to actually stand out, whereas due to a lack of them PoC and women in
I don’t know, I don’t hold it against existing characters, I just want the future to not be so goddamn narrow.
