A Bunch Of People Asked Me To Make This Rebloggable, So…
Not trying to pick on the anon, but I disagree with this so much.
Umm, okay, I get that as a writer you have to please the people you work for, but how can a feminist justify writing Red Sonja? Just look at her! She’s the personification of female objectification. How is a skimpy chain-mail bikini practical? Why didn’t you re-design her image? This is what we get from “the top female artists in the industry”?

Every single one chose the bikini, every single one, independent, mainstream, and cartoonist, they all chose that outfit.
The idea that I can’t be a feminist and like a female warrior in a particular outfit is just downright obnoxious. I LIKE that the Marvel sword and sorcery heroes of that period, like Conan and Sonja, wore few encumbrances, it appeals to my sense of freedom for the characters.
She’s going to wear lots of outfits. But seriously, telling all these female artists they aren’t feminist because you disagree about Sonja’s outfit, that doesn’t seem a little arrogant to you?

Not to insinuate that whatever your guess on Stephanie and Cass's status will be fact, but, do you believe their histories serving under the Batgirl moniker will be erased for the New 52 or will it merely be their personal histories that are compressed and
Don’t have a clue, really. I’d hate to speculate. A lot of their histories don’t make sense in the new52, though.

I like DC characters; I just hate DC: Oh my god
I still think Kate should take over the role of Gotham’s defender from Bruce. Then have Barbara move to the public face of an organization akin to Batman Inc, but be something like “The Daughters of Gotham” or some such, and have Kate recruit Bette, Steph, and Cass (and a few more over the series) to truly bring change to Gotham. No more revolving door at Arkham, no more clown.
Then I’d have Gail and Williams do the writing chores. I’d love to see Amy Reeder as the regular artist.
That’s a fun idea and I would love to work with J.H. Williams III, but I think so highly of him and Greg Rucka it’s hard for me to imagine anyone but one of those two writing Kate. Or both!
You said you were thinking of a new way to pitch unbenching Steph or Cass, right? Did that ever work out?
Not yet. I’ve pitched it so much at this point I think someone else has a much better chance, I’m afraid.
I am positive that Cass will be back at some point and PRETTY sure that Steph will be, but they both will be undergoing some modifications, I’m sure. I’m not saying this with any particular inside knowledge, just my gut feeling.

When I heard that Cass’s Batgirl series was going to be cancelled so they could bring in Batwoman, I thought it was the weirdest thing ever. Kate and Cass are really very different chars with different costumes and different appearances
But I just realized.

The thing about Steph and Cass not being allowed back, I don’t get at all, and it makes me sad. However, recent interviews I’ve read seem at least to be entertaining the possibility of their return, so I have my fingers crossed.

It was Paul Dini who wanted to put Babs in the Batwoman costume. He proposed an idea where she used the lazarus pit to regain her ability to walk but at the same time it, but at a cost where she became a compromised hero….vampiric. Alex Ross mentions this story in his book Rough Justice for his redesign, when they pitched the idea, but then says that there were already plans to bring Batwoman back and the design went thataway.
Ah, that makes sense. Okay, well, here’s part of the problem, an idea pitched by a writer becomes an edict from the higher-ups, it’s like a game of telephone.
A hundred ideas are pitched each week at Marvel and DC, maybe more, and most never come to fruition. I’ve spoken with Paul a hundred times, he never mentioned this once.
If it ever made it up the chain at DC, which seems unlikely, it never filtered down to me, and I was the main writer of Barbara at the time.
I still think the BASIC theory DP offers could be true, they could have been looking for a reason to bring Barbara back to the cowl for a long time. But Cass’ book being cancelled for Babs to take over, that definitely is incorrect.
About The Incident
A bunch of people have asked kind notes to see if I’m okay. It’s much appreciated, I’m fine. I am still having little adrenaline moments and I can’t stop thinking about the girl and what could have happened, so many things could have gone badly. But I’m fine, and your kind thoughts are appreciated. I hope the girl is doing okay, I hope the abuser is suffering some consequences. I have not heard back from the complex’ security, the girl, or the police.
I’ve told my son to keep an eye out, in case that guy comes looking for him, as they both live in the complex where it happened. My son can handle himself, I just want him to be careful for a while.
Finally, a bunch of people wrote really moving stories about abusive situations they had endured. My heart goes out to you all. I wish there was something I could offer other than just my love and best wishes. I am glad you survived, you deserve better, and I hope you never forget that.
Best wishes to everyone. If you know someone’s been in an abusive situation, please try to be there for them, be their friend, believe their stories, offer support where you can. I have been hearing story after story (via dm) from people in bad situations where one person made a huge difference. Please be that person if you can. Be safe, stay aware, but try to help if you can…a lot of people need it at some point in their lives.
