JLA : Classified #16

This was an interesting story for me…it seemed to me that the JLA are at least partially defined by the person who is observing them. If you are being saved, you see them as a hero, if you are being arrested, they are cops, or perhaps something oppressive, like thought police.

If you are a dictator general…how would you see the JLA?

This was early in my career but it has some interesting points about how history writes war.

The first issue of Secret Six I ever read dealt with Artemis and other Amazons who had been renditioned after Amazons Attack.  You learned this lesson very well I would say.

The two-page sequence with Artemis and the chief guard was as chilling as anything I had read — and I hold degrees in English literature.  You have a mastery of storytelling and language that best-selling novelists would envy.

Thank you very much, that scene meant a lot to me. Patton Oswalt said it was his favorite scene in comics that year which made me see stars a little cause I love that dude!

Do you think that we as comic fans have come to a point where we're no longer able to enjoy sexy female characters or appreciate the skill it takes to draw someone in a sexually provocative way?

No one’s trying to take away sexy, it’s every goddamn direction you look.

I don’t understand this. All people are asking for is that characters they like be allowed to carry some dignity and something BEYOND being purely sexual objects. No one’s trying to cover everything with lead shielding.

Just a Reminder

The AMERICAN VAMPIRE anthology comes out this week, with stories by Becky Cloonan, Scott Snyder, Gabriel Ba, Jeff Lemire, Greg Rucka, Francesco Francavilla, and me, and lots more. I am extremely proud to be in it, it’s a top flight book I will reread often.

A big trigger warning for the whole book, though, and my story included. It’s got violence and more, it’s a horror anthology without question.

But it’s amazingly well done. Hope you get it!

For those...

elvenbutterflies:

I don’t even know where to begin.

For those of you who are just tuning into me, I wrote letters to all of The Hobbit cast when I went to visit them on my Make-a-Wish. I had gotten a response from the actor who plays “Oin” just a few weeks ago. Just now, I was sitting on my floor making cancer ribbons to put on our Marching Band uniforms, and my Aunt walks in with a letter/package from Sebastian; Peter Jackson’s assistant.

I open it, and my heart literally jumped into my throat. It was from my biggest idol, Richard Armitage.

He wrote a pretty lengthy (and most educated) letter. It was heartfelt, and you can tell that he loves his job and takes it very seriously. In the letter it says:

I am enclosing some of Thorin’s chain mail to keep you ‘strong’.

He also included the name of the flute piece we were discussing (meaning he remembers our conversation…I am so happy).

I am speechless…this was so kind of him. I am beyond words. All I can say is, I am so proud to be in the Armitage Army.

Good lord, what a fantastic story!
