Not a question and no need to answer: "Olicity" is a portmanteau name, "shippers" often take the names of two characters and make them one. Olicity therefore refers to Oliver/Felicity. Some people take their ships really serious, so when you said I HATE S
Right, I did know that much, but I have no idea who ‘Felicity’ is or why it’s relevant, I just have not seen the show.
And it’s weird that I made a completely general comment without mentioning a name (because I didn’t KNOW any names, again, don’t watch the show) and one lady just absolutely decided I was making fun of her beloved ship personally, it’s just weird to witness. :)
But I don’t think it’s a big deal, seriously, it’s odd to see it happen, people who don’t follow me and don’t know a thing about me suddenly attacking me because some lady told them to, when she was clearly absolutely 100% mistaken. Strange stuff.
But it did keep me laughing all day because it just got so ridiculous.
I don’t care about shipping, I’m all for it, I do it myself. I just think it’s weird to attack people for doing the same exact thing, just with some other pairing. It seems completely weird and unnecessary.
Do you think of suicide squad does well that their could be a chance for the secret six to get made into a movie or show? Also since your episodes of jlu are great and very well regarded by fans, has there been any interest in either direction to have y
I get asked to write for tv and movies sometimes, it is fun to do but my focus is comics. I love ‘em, I don’t see them as a stepping stone like that.
I would say if SS is a hit, it will mean more Suicide Squad movies. The Six might be too similar a concept. BUT I wouldn’t be surprised if some elements from the Secret Six made it in films. I think some stuff was clearly taken from my run for the last Batman film.

Would you be interested in writing Zatanna or Constantine ?
I like John, but I don’t know that I would want to write his book, really.
Zatanna is a fave!
if you could go back in time and change something about the comic industry, what era would you go to and what would it be? (I know, you being a comic writer probably knows that's a bad idea, but just assume that it's all good and no time issues result)
I would love to have made two changes.
One, I would like to have seen girl comics continue to be a priority after the fifties. When comics started, they made them for EVERYONE, but that dwindled away after the war, for a number of reasons having little to do with economics. That cost us dearly over the decades.
And I wish the major companies had not put ALL their eggs in the direct market. I love comics shops to pieces, but this strategy almost eliminated the idea of comics for all ages for a number of years. I’m over-simplifying, but it had a huge impact.
Hi Gail, what's the project you've most enjoyed working on or you're most proud of? :)
Hmm.
Well, those are two different things.
Stories I am most proud of are probably Wonder Woman: The Circle, and WELCOME TO TRANQUILITY. But they were both very very hard to write for various reasons (not BAD hard, just complicated).
Stories I enjoyed writing the most are probably Birds of Prey, Red Sonja, and Swords of Sorrow (also complicated, but a ton of fun).
I am also hugely proud of the fact that Birds of Prey (I believe) changed the industry forever, it opened doors that had been closed for a long time.
Anyway, I love telling stories. There have been very few I haven’t enjoyed in some capacity.
What do you think about the upcoming Scooby doo comic being Darker? I Know a lot of people would be against this but Darker Iterations of Scooby Doo have proven to be more Successful with fans (Zombie Island, Mystery Incorporated)
I watched Zombie Island and really enjoyed it. I’m not a huge Scooby Doo fan, I didn’t watch tv as a kid (we lived in the boonies on a farm) so I don’t have the emotional attachment some writers do, but I think it’s valid to update these things, or at least try.
People want stuff they loved in their childhood to remain unchanged, but they don’t realize how off-putting some elements can be to new generations. I always think of Superman’s briefs or the shoes in Peanuts. WE may not care, it’s part of a thing we loved as kids, right? But new generations have to be sold on the coolness of these properties, and having characters look identical to how they looked SIXTY YEARS AGO can be a very high wall to climb.
I’m all for sincere attempts to update stuff. Just do it with care.
As an active member of the tag -You know which one- I want to apologize for every unwanted attention that has come to you because of it, I think we try to keep it focused but it obviously fails. So sorry for the inconvenience, thanks for giving us an amazi
It’s fine, I think it’s a misunderstanding. I honestly find the whole thing kind of amusing.
When I first posted a joke about Arrow right before the rain of fury came down, there was one woman who called upon all her followers to come and attack me, despite the fact that;
a) I have seen a total of ONE EPISODE
and
b) I still don’t know what the hell Olicity is. I get that it’s a ship that is a big deal to people, but I have never HEARD of the character outside of this thread and have no idea who or what Felicity is about. So it’s completely meaningless to me.
Nevertheless, she decided I was insulting those shippers directly (I wasn’t, I had to be reminded this was a real thing that exists), and called her followers to come scream at me.
Which they did.
So there’s the lesson, don’t make fun of toxic fandom unless you want them to come flying at you with sharp sticks and rocks. :)
It’s SO not a big deal, I found the whole event weird and surreal. I still have no idea what ‘Olicity’ really means, I don’t know a thing about their version of Black Canary, I don’t watch the show and I post this nearly every day, yet every day I get tons of questions about it and it’s just all a bit weird.
I got no beef with fans of the show, certainly not with shippers. Ship who you want, I do that with stuff I love ALL THE TIME. :)
Nobody needs to apologize, honest. It was weird, but interesting to watch.
I am finally beginning your Wonder Woman run, which I have mean meaning to read since it was coming out. I wanted to ask if you felt like you were able to wrap up the plot and character arcs you set in motion in a satisfactory manner, or if the run was si
No, I had plenty of warning, I am quite proud of how we ended the book!

We have an announcement to make!
I have (finally) launched my new blog birdssofprey-posts ! I was really excited to make this blog because I figured that a large amount of our posts revolve around the titular characters and we love them very dearly, so I spent this entire day working on the layout of the blog with genuine sweat and tears, but it is finally ready for us to reveal to all of you who are fans of the Birds of Prey or just DC Comics characters in general.
This blog will contain comic strips, edits, icons, and news about upcoming comics to do with the characters, as well as a reading list for those of you who are interested in reading more about them!
I
have also added a ‘Recently Read’ section to let you know what comics we
have picked up or re-read, whether they are related to the Birds of
Prey or not, so that we can chat with any of you who have done the same
or would like an opinion on the comic before they do. Our ask box is open to everyone so if you would like to talk, we will get back to you as soon as possible :)This does not mean that we will be any less active on this blog (as we need to satisfy our love for all our fandoms), but I only wish to focus more on the Birds of Prey with this new blog.
I hope all of you Birds of Prey fans like this blog, and it will continue to expand every day that I am active on it!
