I watched Zombie Island and really enjoyed it. I’m not a huge Scooby Doo fan, I didn’t watch tv as a kid (we lived in the boonies on a farm) so I don’t have the emotional attachment some writers do, but I think it’s valid to update these things, or at least try.
People want stuff they loved in their childhood to remain unchanged, but they don’t realize how off-putting some elements can be to new generations. I always think of Superman’s briefs or the shoes in Peanuts. WE may not care, it’s part of a thing we loved as kids, right? But new generations have to be sold on the coolness of these properties, and having characters look identical to how they looked SIXTY YEARS AGO can be a very high wall to climb.
I’m all for sincere attempts to update stuff. Just do it with care.
